I’ve watched the entirety of the show Leverage at least 6 times, and you’re telling me never once did I notice Eliot’s little rat tails in season 2???
He’s got them in quite a few episodes, but never once did I see them before! I feel like I’m going crazy!
I first noticed them in the Runway Job (maybe the Iceman one too but I could be wrong) but I’m rewatching it now with someone else and they didn’t notice them either till I pointed them out!
I can’t take screenshots on my phone but they’re in this promo shoot, and they seem to disappear behind his shoulders in a few scenes, but they’re there!

Nate’s parenting to The Trio represents different age ranges of kids to me
The way he interacts with each of them to me shows he’s filling different age range needs
Yes they’re all adults & friends but they’re also a family & the parenting writing for Nate & Sophie is intentional so leaning into that makes sense but there’s a difference to me in how Sophie as the team mum is written vs Nate to each trio as the team dad
Sophie with everyone is usually motherly & naturing. Used to get them to through what they need getting through or be able to help themselves or get calm enough to continue the job or advice on how to interact with the mark, there’s a goal to her advice & helping the kids, she also corrects nate on his behaviour to “the kids” as a parent would to the other parent or talks to the kids about Nate’s behaviour
Nate’s parenting for each of the 3 is different in my opinion
With Elliot it’s more of an older teen type of thing he doesn’t metaphorically ground him or place consequences on him instead he gives him information & choices & advice sometimes scolds him but it feels more giving him the tools & information to make his own choices Elliot is more developed emotionally & in terms of individual world experiences than the other two. Nate is more of a sounding board, Elliot also often talks to Nate as a friend or calls out his behaviour or issues it’s more of a give & take as it can be with older teens/young adults
With Hardison I see it more has young teen or older child a lot of it is keeping him on task, pushing him to achieve what he can but thinks he can’t plus Hardison’s role of technology & Nate doesn’t know anything about that stuff so that’s another parents don’t get the technology angle. Hardison can written juvenile at times with video games & orange soda & pop culture/age of the geek stuff - not saying this is childish in itself but in his role in the team it is, his celebrations & rambles ect he’s got the enthusiasm & excitement. Like the gold job Nate guides him as a parent, lets him make the mistakes & learn the lesson but has the back up plan to help/save him & he’s clearly in trouble like a kid would be for staying up late playing video games for the airplane job
Parker is the young child with her mentality in a lot of ways, there’s a lot of “put it back parker” lol testing boundaries. She’s usually mentored in a way that’s gentle but teaches her but doesn’t usually punish her although the juror job was as a punishment for not listening (also Parker treats Alice as an imaginary friend of sorts who’s seperate to her & the team remind her she is Alice). Then there’s the psychic episode where they help her through her emotions. Parker has the childish viewpoint eg the Christmas episode believing in Santa, they usually indulge her interests & world view or correct her but she’s also pulled into line as needed & taught how her actions impact others which is more of a young child lesson. She’s the one who is raised the most by the team/Nate through the series from a closed off aloof loner thief to being the new mastermind & running the team & connecting with clients in a way she couldn’t have without Nate & Sophie as ‘parents’
Even though he lost Sam Nate is able to continue to be a parent through all phases with his team
Just random crap I’m thinking of as I watch
If I’d taken notes earlier on this idea I’d have more proof/info/examples to point to but this is off the top of my head

Why did I think it was an umbrella hat?? lol
Ignore that it’s crappily drawn so half assed on my phone at work lol but I genuine thought it was like this
By the way we should bring these back as a general fashion & function trend lol

I went looking for this scene to add to the hat bracket cause the way I REMEMBERED it was that he was wearing some kind of dorky visor.... but ..... it's actually just..... literally just a string? tied around his head? tf?

Leverage (2008) // S02xE01 // "The Beantown Bailout Job"
i like this exchange because depending on how you reverse that statement, you end up with three possible interpretations, each funnier than the last and all equally true:
solving poor people's problems
creating rich people's problems
solving problem rich people

I don't think I've ever actually re-bloggd any leverage stuff despite loving the show and saving many posts, but I was struck by a vision and needed to share.
If there is ever any mystery or intrigue Nate figures out what is going on and how to solve it like immediately. But because Sophie is dming she's manipulated it so his character can't really do much about it for whatever reason. And every time he tries to metagame the other three pretend they can't hear him or talk over him until he stops. And it drives him up the wall every time.
ok i have Thoughts about the leverage team playing dnd.
you would think hardison would be the dm but no, its 100% sophie. can you imagine the fun she would have crafting and inhabiting npcs and villains and subtly tweaking and manipulating the characters ((and players tbh)) into following plot threads?? she would love it and she would be so fucking good at it.
hardison would minmax his guy to hell and back, stacked to the gills with magic items and insane homebrews. he would spend obscene amounts of time weighing his moves in each round of combat and forget basic stuff like reactions and what can be a bonus action.
parker would have the most fuck-ass build which Should Not Work, with a lot of unfortunate traits cause she had no idea what she was doing, ((ally beardsley giving kristen 4 dex type shit)) but she somehow pulls it off so beautifully and manages to clutch save the party at every turn i.e. scanlan casting Wish. she is just as laser-focused on collecting treasure in-game as she is in real life.
eliot would play a basic human but try out a spellcaster cause he punches people for realsies all the time, punching in-game isnt fun. he would be the one most into the rp aspect, and sophie would latch onto him and they would create oscar-worthy backstory and character development.
nate would not be able to keep a character alive for more than two sessions ever and he would hate it always
i so desperately want to write this fic now someone stop me and/or buy in

we recently rewatched the Big Bang/San Lorenzo Jobs and one of my favorite things about Nate v Damien Moreau is that Moreau is always going "in a fair fight I'd crush you" and Nate keeps responding "probably, which is why I cheated like hell" and it works every time
#sure youre never caught so i just framed you#sure you control the media but people still have email and mouths#moreau is like 'i make the rules' and nate is like 'cool we dont actually care about those tho'#leverage

I like that idea
I also like thinking of it as Parker who’s finally found a family & a place to belong where she doesn’t have to change herself to be accepted & she’s checking with both her ‘parents’
There’s a lot of ‘the team as a family’ moments I love but especially with Parker who never had any kind of family growing up now does & learns the most over the series from her family members not just in terms of skills & human behaviour but about herself & went from a loner to the new mastermind
Little obsessed with this blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment at the beginning of The San Lorenzo Job when Nate's asking the team if they want to go all in on this one.
The team's in the bar, and we've got shots framing the OT3 and Sophie, respectively. Parker, Hardison, and Eliot are all looking at Nate, but twice (when Nate first asks and then Nate says "please"), Parker looks to Sophie as well.
I'm fascinated by that. Sophie ran the team for 6 months while Nate was in prison, so was that Parker checking with both Nate and Sophie to make a decision? Was it Parker assessing the situation because as we've learned this season, she's so good at planning and a mastermind in training?
Anyway, I just love that I find something new about this show every time I watch.

i love that none of the leverage team have misplaced confidence like they all really are THAT good. hardison hacked into the bank of iceland as a teenager. parker can crack almost any type of safe in seconds. sophie is a famous art thief and has played such long cons that she became a duchess. eliot is an internationally renowned hitman and retrieval specialist FOR A REASON. nate literally gave a guy a nosebleed with the power of his mind. no wonder the five of them are the only people who could possibly figure out how to beat a steranko twice
#leverage#alec hardison#parker leverage#sophie devereaux#eliot spencer#nate ford#and it makes it so you can clearly see when they're out of their element!#s1 parker STRUGGLED at grifting. eliot can barely work a computer half the time. hardison needs to be taught about wine multiple times#sophie and nate have been at it the longest so you don't see them struggle as much but. i'm certain they do

I love the Leverage episodes where they're truly just psychologically tormenting a guy.
Like obviously they first establish that the guy is a terrible guy who does terrible guy things. And we really do need the terrible guy to be doing a lot of terrible guy things because this is kinda an ethical nightmare, but don't worry, they are reliably doing a lot of terrible guy things.
But then it is just like "hey, let's convince this guy that he's made first contact with aliens and also that aliens are trying to kill him" or "hey, let's make this guy believe he's contracted a deadly disease and is going to die in quarantine because medical staff are abandoning him" or "hey, let's first try to persuade this journalist that the government is secretly creating Guantanamo Bay 2: Underground Boogaloo in your backyards and when she doesn't run with that story, let's then make her think that oops the government accidentally leaked some kind of bioweapon into the waterways and now water is gonna kill you instead."
