Dipper: I am thinking Doctor Strange or Zatanna-esque where he just straight up uses magic.

Mabel: For some reason due to Mabel Juice, I am thinking of Mabel doing something like Honey Lemon from Big Hero 6 where she has concoctions that do different things. Glitter smoke bomb is totally one of them.

Coraline: Leaning right into the water witch sort of idea. (Trying not to think Spider-man.)

Wybie: He is more like Batman where he makes gadgets and such to use!

Norman: The fact that he is a seer works very well. Now maybe being able to call on the ghosts to help him, that would step that power up a bit. Of course he hangs out with the ghosts when he’s not calling upon them. You need to keep the ghosts happy.

Neil: I’ve been trying to think, and the best I can think of is a sort of Danny Phantom sort of ordeal. He does use this power to play with his dog too.

I do probably have to come back for Neil though since Danny Phantom can be an MK.

Raz: He can already be a hero if he wanted to to be honest. If we wanted to step away from his normal powers though, I can see three options:

Lili: She has a similar situation to Raz where she can straight up be a hero but, doing the same thing as Raz:

Wirt: I’ve thought of several ideas for him (a My Hero Academia version with all of those limitations and a normal one.) and the idea I liked best is a plant based hero. He uses seeds to grow things and can talk to plants.

The My Hero Academia sort of one involves him using poetry to control the weather and plants. To do what he wants to do, the poem needs to mention it.

Greg: Definitely shapeshifting into different animals. He can now be the tiger he wanted to be.

Luz: Honestly her rune gig would be a pretty good power. An alternative idea would be where she is similar to the Hulk or Wolverine where she can turn into her demon form from the finale.

The Calamity Trio: They technically already have their anime hero forms as said in the show. If it was used again it might need to be dumbed down but yeah, crystal prophecy girls and I love them.

2023 writing roundup!

i did this last year, so here i am attempting to make this a tradition. once again, i'm basing this on ao3 because i don't want to go through all my documents looking at timestamps of edits lol. it's been a year of a lot of changes in my life, but the one thing that always stays the same? FANFICTION

here's what i did this year:

posted the follow-up getting-together chapter of sun and shadow, my soft regulus-centric pjo au

got even more niche than rosewater with a sirius/barty ficlet in which they run into each other when they're both out after curfew

wrote a rosewater fake dating AU in a week when i definitely should have been working on a final essay

got into seer regulus for the first time with let me living die

started a messy ex-death-eater-regulus and healer!sirius first war fic featuring regulus who survives the cave and inadvertently reveals himself as a traitor in the process

brief diversion into another fandom with another installment in my 'jean and andrew are roommates, neil lives across the hall' series for AFTG

got more into seer regulus with lachrimae (5 chapters posted, 16 drafted!)

continued digging myself deeper re: niche ships with a sirius/barty 5+1 companion fic to evocatio, because why not

and finally… continued writing ttdl! i've posted a little more than 100k words on that this year, bringing the total to a little over 250k, not counting the prologue. goddamn

right now, i'm in a marathon session of 'trying to finish lachrimae,' and ttdl will probably be on a hiatus until that happens because i'm on a roll - after that, i'll start posting lachrimae updates on a weekly basis and keep chugging along with ttdl!

in 2024: keeping up with ttdl and lachrimae, perhaps finally writing that wedding fic in the promise of series, more ykiybtib when the urge strikes, and probably a return to original fiction - i have something in mind that i want to start when i finish lachrimae, as it seems that i can kind of hold 2 long stories in my mind at a time. if you like my hp stuff, and especially if you like let me living die and lachrimae, i think you'll like this story ajlgshkjdf - it'll mess around a lot with the question of 'if you love someone so much that you reset time to undo their death, what happens afterward?'

i'm sure i'll write more random ficlets as well, and we'll see where the year takes us - perhaps i'll even finish ttdl and move on to the next fic in the series!!

Rick Rubin (with Neil Strauss) — The Creative Act: A Way of Being (Canongate)

Mega-producer and record label magnate Rick Rubin brings us his first book (co-written with Neil Strauss), The Creative Act: A Way of Being. At 404 pages, the book is a surprisingly breezy read, giving some insight into how Rubin approaches the art of being creative. Which for him boils down to a way of being. Those looking for juicy anecdotes about recording sessions with Johnny Cash, LL Cool J, Slayer, The Red Hot Chili Peppers or any of the other innumerable artists Rubin has worked with will be disappointed. But for those curious about the modus operandi behind one of the most influential record producers of the last 50 years, and how this might relate to one's own life, The Creative Act: A Way of Being could prove useful.

Admittedly, I was at first skeptical when the book caught my eye in a bookstore window. I was like, That Rick Rubin, the producer?  Well, why shouldn't an immensely successful record producer know something about creativity? It was more the framing of this knowledge as a way of being that caused a brief spate of disbelief on my part. Growing up in Los Angeles (The Land of Fruits and Nuts, as my hard-scrabble relatives in South Boston referred to California in general) I was used to seeing books from dime-store gurus. Edgar Cayce, Ram Dass and Timothy Leary paperbacks lined my mother's bookshelves. I had girlfriends who went to Golden Dawn temples, friends who dragged me along to channeling sessions for some deity from Venus. It was hard for me to take any of this very seriously.

Maybe it was the extreme disconnect between Rubin's commercial background and his espoused role as a seer that pushed me over the edge and caused me to buy the book. The opening quote from American artist Robert Henri sets the tone for what follows: The object isn't to make art, it's to be in that wonderful state which makes art inevitable. The book therefore provides less a toolbox for working on one's life than a series of vignettes where Rubin extrapolates on various contingencies related to achieving a state of mind and spirit where creativity is possible. Some of these topics include, Listening, Self-Doubt, Non-Competition, Freedom, Inspiration and Awareness. Basically anything which Rubin feels has pertained to his creative process is included in this book.

Ironically, what came more to mind while reading this was not Rick Rubin's background but the German artist Joseph Beuys' famous dictum, Everyone is an artist (Jeder Mensch ist ein Künstler). Unlike Rubin, Beuys did not frame his belief as much in the context of a spiritual journey, but like Rubin he did see himself as a kind of shaman or teacher who could lead society onward to a new — and more positive — direction by unleashing the creative possibilities each person innately possessed but perhaps did not know they had. For Beuys, this would later morph into a concept of social sculpture, where the creative state in each person would further society as a productive, forward-thinking organism.

This would also be the gist of Rubin's book. He's not trying to tell us how to make a better record, write a more catchy song, more successfully promote an artist's career (although all these things are mentioned tangentially throughout the book) but to help people realize their own unique creative strengths in the hopes of steering society in a less self-destructive direction. Though the main text and sprinkling of aphorisms scattered liberally throughout the book often verged for me on a kind of treacly sweetness, in the end I came away feeling that Rubin had really made a sincere attempt to show people the way to something they might not have realized they'd had all along.

The most inspiring take-away from the book would be this sense that even in a person's everyday life there is this great wellspring of energy to approach the most mundane tasks from a creative standpoint. That being creative doesn't necessarily mean creating something, making some beautiful object. It's about a state of mind where creativity equates with a way of existence, of approaching life with an awareness that will put one in a place where they can reconnect to a life energy which, at the very least, will lead one to experiencing a more personally fulfilling existence.

All this being said, the book also includes many concrete examples of how to circumvent creative dilemmas and meltdowns, whether this be in the recording studio or just trying to make it through a workday. Though Rubin seldom mentions people he's collaborated with by name in the book, he gives numerous examples of how he works in the studio — not necessarily microphone placement or which effects he used, but more how he guided various recording artists on an inspirational or spiritual level to realize their full creative potential. And in this context the book moves beyond its often sentimental, esoteric trappings to provide some real-world advice for people, whatever their vocation in life, to find a new way of being.

THE POWERFUL POTENTIAL OF SOUND-SCIENCE OF MANTRAS

Ultra sound are those which cannot be heard by human ears under any circumstances. When very subtle vibrations are imbued with an electric onrush, its power of learn more piercing augments so prolifically that by piercing even the densest material, its’ inner designing can be photographed quite clearly.

After merely chanting ‘start’ or uttering the alphabets, ‘s-t-a-r-t’ a heavy car weighing 200 kilos started revving up. When the next word ‘go’ was uttered by that person what a miracle was seen. Akin to a lord commanding his devote, the car started swiftly running on the road. The car now gained more speed. This car without a driver at the wheel was whizzing past on an open road and at that moment another car was approaching it from the opposite direction. Hence this person seated afar commanded ‘halt’. Thus this car without a driver stopped and halted immediately.

After reading these lines, the reader must have assumed deluded that this was a magic show or an act of sleight of hand. Yet this is just not true. This was a well managed program that was exhibited by 2 youths called Graham and Neil. This feat was performed in Melbourne City of Australia on a road that oozed with many spectators. In order to witness firsthand, how powerful is the sound of words a huge crowd had gathered.

Behind the fact that a lifeless inert car was functioning at the behest and direction of words uttered by a person was at work a scientific law. It was the power of sound that was at work. In the hands of the person exhibiting all this was a small match stick like box called a transistor. The function of this transistor was to send the word (sound) of a well defined frequency uttered by the person directing this car to the control unit below the dashboard of the car via the medium of electrical power. Bang in front of this was another machine called ‘car radio’. When the electromagnetic waves of the words uttered banged against it, all cogs and technical units of the car got activated. Not only the engine but that the horn, lights, wipers etc too started functioning on hearing these uttered words. Although the lay public who witnessed all this were spell bound yet specialists of this technology knew that this is but an onrush of the infinite vault of power of speech.

The power of words/sound while superseding all material forces also possesses the potentials of subtle piercing. It was only after this definite information was unearthed that Indian seer philosophers helped advance the Science of Mantras. By itself anything that we utter affects us and others individually and at the cosmic level too. A small pebble thrown in a big lake can send waves to far off regions. In the same way every word uttered by our mouth creates vibrations in the subtle atoms of space. Due to these vibrations invisible inspirations awaken in people. We do not know from where thoughts enter our brain but Mantra seers know that thoughts emerging in our intellect are certainly no sudden accident but are focused subtle vibrations in layers of energies right since commencement of creation. These bang into the knowledge centers/sheaths of the brain manifest as thoughts. Also our brain is capable of catching and help flowing, a continuous stream of one single class of thoughts. A humungous revolution can be created in the thought realm of the entire cosmos via a stream of one type of thoughts flowing ceaselessly in the psyche. For this it is not a must that these thoughts be uttered via speech and conversations.

This quote by Neil Armstrong is a reminder that the human mind is naturally curious and that we are drawn to things that are mysterious or unknown.

The word "mystery" means something that is difficult or impossible to understand. The word "wonder" means a feeling of amazement or awe. The word "desire" means a strong wish or longing for something. The word "understand" means to comprehend or grasp the meaning of something.

The quote suggests that our desire to understand the world around us is rooted in our natural curiosity. When we encounter something that is mysterious or unknown, it sparks our imagination and makes us want to learn more.

This is why we are so fascinated by things like space exploration, ancient civilizations, and the natural world. These are all areas where there is still much that we do not know, and this mystery draws us in and makes us want to learn more.

If we want to keep our minds active and engaged, we need to continue to seek out new mysteries to explore. We need to be open to new experiences and to new ways of thinking. And we need to be willing to ask questions and to challenge our assumptions.

The world is a vast and complex place, and there is still so much that we do not know. But our curiosity is our greatest asset. It is what drives us to learn and to grow. And it is what makes us human.

A/n: whats up guys im not dead and I finally wrote a thing

 The kingdom of Evermore shines brightly underneath the never-ending light of the sun. Golden cities and silver towers cover the lands in spades, shimmering blindingly across the horizon. The City of White. The Sun God’s Temple. The half of the world that never is to sleep, and never to wake, as the moon will never come.

In the heart of Evermore, it’s castle sits high and proud, a golden marvel of wealth and power. It stretches far more vast than any other building for hundreds of miles, a city of it’s own making. In the center of the castle, a large square of land takes space within.

They call it the Garden for reasons unbeknownst to Neil, as not a single living thing grows on the marbled floors and chiseled statues. Neil places his hand on a nearby pillar, steadying himself with it as he tentatively steps into the Garden. A thick, warm liquid soaks between his toes and underneath his feet, unpleasantly sticking to his skin and sloshing around on the floors of the Garden.

Neil can’t see what it is but years of living in the castle and the sickening smell is more than enough insight into what is currently staining his skin. He ignores it as it is, pushing off of the pillar and slowly walking forward, step by counted step, reaching his hands out cautiously until they bump into a fountain made out of gold.

Neil sits down on the edge and stretches a hand out to press it into the waters that run from the structure, wondering if that too is stained red with blood. He thinks the dress he slipped on today was white but now there’s no way to tell what color it might have become.

“Seer.” Comes a voice from Neil’s left, and Neil sighs in aggravation.

“Tell them if they want me for another vision they’ll have to wait. I’ve spent the last twelve hours pushing my limits, I have no more to give.” Neil says sharply.

The guard bluntly ignores this, his steps making a disgusting sound as he treks through the blood and grabs Neil by the arm. “The King will not be denied.” The guard says before dragging him to his feet.

Neil slaps away the guard’s hand with a growl, glaring in an approximate direction of the man. “I’m blind not cripple, I don’t need you to walk me.”

“You know that’s not how this works.” He says, once again grabbing Neil’s arm and pulling him to follow, ignoring Neil’s curses and struggles.

Evermore has owned him since birth. A bird is branded into the back of his heel, one that’s been there since he was a baby, symbolizing the royal family. His father made him with every intention of him being a seer, a prophet. His mother’s bloodline has a history of seers, randomly passed down throughout generations, and Neil just happened to get the unlucky draw of power. Seers are rare, only a few ever around at the same time, if there are any at all. Wars have been fought and kingdoms have fallen for the control of a seer. The moment Neil revealed he had true sight he lost whatever hope of freedom he could have had.

His mother, foolishly, desperately, died for that dead idea of freedom. Neil wonders how long it will take before he will do the same.

He’s the reason the Moriyamas are still on top, are still fighting and winning wars and territories. It leaves a sickness in Neil, an anger knowing he’s helping the very people who have him held as their prisoner.

The guard throws him down with little warning and Neil falls to his knees painfully.

“You are dismissed.” A voice says blandly, but stern. The guard takes his leave, leaving Neil alone with the King.

“Seer,” Ichirou says, ”I need your eyes once more.”

“I have no more sight to give.” Neil says back. “My lord.” He spits out after.

A hand grips his chin harshly, tilting it up and forcing his neck to bend. “That was not a request. If you refuse me again Riko will have you for the week.” Ichirou says coldly, and Neil can’t suppress the shutter that takes over his body.

Neil lets out a shaky breath, “I will try, my lord.”

“Don’t try, do.” He says, releasing Neil’s chin, and presses a bowl of water into Neil’s hands.

Neil nods, gritting his teeth but holding his tongue for once.

He closes his eyes and takes a deep breath, lowering his head and slipping a hand into the water.

His fingertips dance over its surface, feeling the ripples and waves it creates. Neil focuses on the dismal amount of power left within him after days of forced visions, and rips at it harshly and painfully, gasping hard at the tear, blood dripping out of his nose and into the bowl.

There’s a swell of burning heat to his flesh, but Neil can tell it won’t hold for long.

“What do you want to know.” Neil says, or probably says, maybe says. Neil is lightyears away from sound, infinitely removed from space and time itself. Ichirou’s words pass through and out of his memory, something of foxes and twilight, and Neil opens his eyes and sees.

The world is dark and misty, a tavern in front of him with rain falling around him. Palmetto, the kingdom of the night, the City of Twilight. The half of the world forever purged in darkness.

The tavern is filled with soldiers and people of importance, people that really shouldn’t hold a meeting in a shitty hole in the wall bar. King Wymack holds a conversation in the back room, surrounded by men and women arguing loudly, a shouting match soon to turn into a fist fight.

“Enough!” The King bellows, and the room goes quiet. He rubs at his temples harshly with a sigh. “We need ideas, not to kill each other. This was suppose to be a meeting on taking down the Moriyamas, once in for all, not a pissing contest!”

“We have an idea,” A man argues next to him. Kevin Day, Neil’s insight tells him, the traitor of Evermore. “You just aren’t listening.”

“It’s not that I’m not listening, it’s just a suicidal plan!” The King argues.

“We need to take out their seer.” Kevin plows on. “As long as they can predict our every move we have no chance.”

“And I agree with you.” The King says, “But there is no one here who can walk into that castle and come back alive!”

“If I volunteer can we wrap up this bullshit.” Another voices says boredly, almost emotionlessly. He’s short compared to his comrades, blond. Andrew Minyard, his insight supplies him though that doesn’t really help him know the man.

“You’ll die.” Reiterates the King.

“Anything is better than this.” Andrew replies blankly, and a man next to him, Nickolas Hemmick, makes a protesting noise, flailing his arms wildly.

“NO! No! What the fuck, Andrew, you can’t just walk into Evermore, are you serious?!” He shouts. Cousins, his insight says, and Neil hums in reply.

“Actually, out of all of us Andrew is the best candidate for doing this.” A girl says. Natalie Shields, his insight says, before pausing. Renee Walker, it corrects.

“He’s the only one here with any shadow training.” Renee explains, “If we can cause a distraction, it shouldn’t be as much of a risk.”

“But what distraction?!” A man identical to Andrew, Aaron Minyard, shouts out in frustration. “We don’t have the resources nor the men to stage a false attack!”

“But we don’t need the resources.” A woman says grinning with an idea. Danielle Wilds. “We just need to look like we do.”

“An illusion spell?” Says the man next to her, Matthew Bloyd. “Do we even have someone who could do that much magic?”

“I can do it.” Kevin says arrogantly.

A woman, Allison Reynolds, scuffs, ”You can barely light a candle, how the fuck are you gonna manage a full bodied attack?”

Kevin glares daggers at her but doesn’t relent, “I can do it.”

“With some help,” Renee suggests, “If we can get Jeremy from the Trojans in on this we might have a fighting chance.”

Sight leaves Neil suddenly and starkly, darkness flooding his vision and his body aching to remind him of reality. The bowl falls from his hands with a shatter and he gasps out, and chokes, his mouth full of blood and he coughs it out onto the palace floors. Blood steadily falls from his nose and the wetness on his cheeks warns him it’s also falling from his eyes.

It’s rare for Neil to be pushed to such a deadly extent and he can feel his body shake as it starts to fail on him.

“Tell me.” Ichirou says without remorse and Neil holds back a sob as pain rings throughout his body.

“Attack,” He grits out, “East side of the nest. They’re taking all the magic users they got and pushing through that point.” Neil lies.

“Is that all?” Ichirou presses.

“If I look anymore I’ll die.” Neil slurs out, right before collapsing onto the floors already slick with his own blood.

Medium! Steve who can feel when spirits are around but he doesn't know that. So he reacts to things he can't see and doesn't understand it. He's used to it by now, but sometimes it's worse than others. He shivers, tears up, feels more emotional like something is effecting him.

Steve hates his house for it, never feeling truly alone or safe in his own home as he always feels watched. He's pretty sure it's just all the pictures of his parents, but it's still spooky.

Witch! Eddie who knows about that kind of stuff, Wayne having grown up in a family of witches and doesn't practice, but gives all his sisters things to Eddie as a kid.

He taught himself spells and wards, uses his magic in his music and in his stitching for his jacket. He's been safe so far in his life, getting out of trouble and staying away from the wrong people and it's all because of his spell work.

Seer! Billy who doesn't tell anyone about the things he sees in his dreams. Doesn't try to change the outcomes of things anymore, not when his mom left, not when Neil didn't stop beating him. He doesn't listen to the dreams anymore, doesn't acknowledge them because he can't change them anyway.

He drinks to chase away the dreams. Would rather not see something coming instead of dwelling on it for days or months.

chapter 119 atm. I think it's quite telling how slow I am with the first volume. im halfway through and ive still yet to be interested. it's just so... nothing. the substance isn't substancing. 😭 im pushing hard to finish the first volume, I still want to do right by this series that's so clearly beloved by many readers.

regardless, even if the world building so far has been okay (it's cool but extremely slow and lots of info dumping), ive correctly predicted the plot so far so im not feeling very excited by anything. atp i feel like i should be vaguely spoiled (for the first volume) to keep going.

my predictions so far is

- some dead nighthawks (preferably the prominent ones such as old neil and dunn. neil more so because he seems like he's not relevant to main point of interest/mystery; antigonus family notebook. dunn because he's written with enough charm and characterisation for you to remember, but not important enough to stay. then add more nighthawks to the mix i guess. to make you feel something, like oh they were so important.)

- new tarot member. obviously. rules of 3 so there'll be a third member atleast by the end of first vol. seems like the tarot club is gonna be a fully fledged club full of people. theyll eventually know klein's identity as the fool in the later volumes.

- involvement of the true creator somehow. idk how but somehow. clearly an antagonistic force that'll become a threat soon since they're hamming it up. influence would probably result in aforementioned nighthawks deaths

- missing man levnus or wtv his name was becomes relevant later on. clearly written with a bit too much commitment for my own liking. becomes really relevant later in the novel.

- the real cherry on top if something happens to the morreti family. knowing that there's 8 volumes total, the morreti family will eventually become involved. there's no way klein can stay with his family considering the supernatural he's going through. he's likely gonna stay away from them to protect them. the family is the only real thing of substance imo, the author is going to use that to propel you into the next volume, either that or some big new mystery that reveals the "coincidences" that keep happening to klein (preferably the person behind it)

- mr azik becomes relevant later. clearly a character for the next volumes. klein will keep in touch with him

- an important artifact will be involved. uurrrrhh I'm expecting this bc so far artifact use has been introduced twice so rules of 3. the last artifact that the nighthawks use will be really memorable. im thinking itll be used against another nighthawk because of shock factor wrow also expanding the "moral utility" of artifacts (expanding the use of artifacts)

- by the name of the volume, klein will move up sequence to clown. the "act"/role will make klein very depressed (for irony), like... clowns laugh a lot. they're cheery and stuff, so klein will laugh a lot, the acting part comes when it's in the face of danger or the "unknown". i think this is so because of one of the prominent "hidden rules" of being a seer is to be unafraid of the unknown. laughing is not only being unafraid but basically flipping it off. thats courage. this is sorta the only link i found between the two roles, other than how they both belong in a circus like klein suggests. maybe the next sequence is magician or acrobat?

- this is probably the biggest stretch but klein is probably the key to unlocking the mysteries of the gods/lords. the way he utilises the grey fog and prayers would suggest that the other gods are similar to klein. they're human like anyone else, just that they're so good at "acting" (similar to klein acting as the fool) that people think they're more than they actually are. most evident THE MULTIPLE TIMES where the tarot members motion how the fool is a "god". ritual for prayers is similar, acting as a god, etc. klein will likely find out what happens in the epochs and whatnot. the whole thing about "acting" and "digesting", with the way he is with as the fool, he'll become a god himself eventually in the later volumes.

currently 15 chapters into lotm rn. ik everyone says that i should atleast finish the first vol to know whether i should drop it but it really feels like such a chore to read through the first novel
