Thinking about how much better cassian and eris’s conversation at the end of acosf would’ve been if it was nesta instead of cassian’s dumb ass.Cassian literally had to have it spelled out for him that eris is wearing a mask and might actually be a good male and even then he still missed the mark completely and called him a coward.I think nesta would’ve been a lot more understanding especially when she realized her and eris might not be so different after all.It could have been a defining moment to show nesta’s growth and the whole scene just would’ve been a lot more captivating if it was nesta involved 🤷.

This goes hand in hand with how I’ll literally never get over SJM fumbling so hard when it came to nesta and eris and I’m not just talking in the romantic sense.I’m talking nesta playing courtier with eris and being the only who can deal with him because he only seems to like her.Nesta seeing past eris’s cunning mask and cruelty and him seeing past her tough exterior and harsh words.Them slowly developing a silent sort of understanding of each other and eventually becoming allies.Maybe sharing a kiss here and there because they’re both hot and single and they want to.Their relationship genuinely had so much potential and their chemistry was off the charts.I’ll forever be in mourning.

PSA: nobody has canon evidence that Eris is evil or abusive. You are basing everything off Mor’s words, when we know that she lies and withholds the truth constantly.

Eris even says right to her face that she has been fed lies about him when she accuses him of wanting a young bride to torture. Then he tells the IC to ask Mor what actually happened that day because she isn’t telling the whole story.

Yes, he left her in the woods. He was NOT the one that hurt her though. He left her so that someone from the IC could come get her and take her back to the NC instead of her being trapped with him. He did her a favor.

He did NOT help Beron and his brothers kill Jesminda. He was tortured by Beron for disobedience for it.

He is tortured regularly by Beron, and Beron even uses faebane to keep the wounds from healing.

He is the ONLY one who tries to keep Beron and his brothers in line.

He is the ONLY one who tries to protect his mother and puts her safety first.

I also theorize that he looks out for Lucien. (Yes this is a headcanon, don’t come at me).

Point is, you’re welcome to love Cassian all you want. But acting like Eris is this evil snake when we have no proof of him doing anything evil at all is kinda ridiculous imo.

It’s almost like some fans lack the ability to actually interpret the text for themselves and form their own opinions about characters. Cassian and Mor say he’s evil, so it must be true! Even though the facts say otherwise.

Anyway, that is my two cents for today.

ACOSF, except that Nesta refuses to move to the House of Wind and packs her bags to leave to the "human lands", but instead of actually going there, she stops at the Spring Court and kinda forces Tamlin to take her in. After all, Spring is close enough to the human lands and she's sure none of the IC would look for her Spring.

She and Tamlin clash at first, but then Nesta tells him that Feyre wanted to lock her in the House of Wind for "her own good" and Tamlin has to take a walk outside the house to not break anything because what the fuck? Those people haven't forgiven him for locking Feyre up to protect her and make him miserable because of it, but suddenly it's okay when they do it? Unbelievable.

They drink together and bond over the Night Court's hypocrisy, how they were treated by them, and Feyre. They start living together. Tamlin plays the music and Nesta dances to it. They spend time in silence in his library or taking relaxing strolls around the garden. Nesta does more healing there that she could've done in the House of Wind. Eventually, she and Tamlin become good friends.

Oh, and she meets Eris again and they actually get to know each other outside the Night Court's machinations. They have a slowburn romance and get married eventually, turning Nesta into the High Lady of Autumn. She helps Tamlin rebuild his court and strikes an alliance between both courts, and she thrives with positive relationships and a man that genuinely loves her and doesn't try to change her.

Also Lucien makes up with Tamlin and returns to Spring, adding him to Nesta's friendship circle.

Kinda tempted to writ a what-if fic where in Silver Flames, when Nesta is given the "choice" to either get locked up in the HoW or being send to the human lands with the expectation to die there, she actually chooses the human lands, saying death would be better than surrounded by obnoxious hypocritical narcisists.

Feyre and Cassian would right away try to backtrack and just want to forced her to the HoW, only for Rhysand to be, "done" and just winnow her to the border and leave.

Back at the NC Feyre and Cassian would be pissed but Rhys just tells them he'll have eyes (not Azriel(he doesn't and hopes she'll just die and plans to pretend the pragnancy made him forget, even while also lying to Feyre about that)) on Nesta, along with some more manipulation and gaslighting till they just give in.

Nesta meanwhile tries to avoid being seen, but soon get's discovered and has to run from a mob, only to get saved by Lucien and Jurian.

They take her back to their manor where she's just in time to see Vassa transform from bird to woman.

She explains what happened and the BoE is disgusted with Feysand and their groupies and offer Nesta to stay with them and she accepts.

Slowly she gets better as she's treated by respect by the BoE and becomes friends with every member in some way (meeting sassy Lucien, mocking spoiled human lordling sons and daughters they grew up surrounded by with Vassa and talking about SMUT books, training with Jurian on her OWN CHOICE after watching him a few times and being offered to join, and all of them just being sarcastic and teasing each other.

They'd also discuss and ask her opinion on political matters( since, like many say, she was right away more suited and courtier than warrior)

When The IC finds out, first Cassian tries to get her back, only to be denied by Nesta and when he doesn't listen to her, get's send away by BoE.

He keeps coming around but keeps getting send away and Azriel starts spying and constantly reports moments where Nesta's happy and Cassian feels jealous of Lucien and Jurian, Feyre of Vassa for being sister-like with Nesta, and Elain of Vassa and also Nesta for being close to her mate.

Maybe have Eris coming over more often too and flirt with Nesta who flirts back, making Cassian worse.

At some point, Cassian get's told by Lucien he's a worthless matee who doesn't care about Nesta and will always easily put the IC over her, and Nesta confirms that while she likes (or liked?) him, he's not what she needs until he actually changes

She also, since she doesn't need to rely on the NC for protection, tears into Feyre for her I-always-did-everything-while-my-sisters-did-nothing attitude, mentioning all kinds of things she did that Feyre ignored and how she's become a selfish obnoxious hypocrite that flaunts money and laughs at those less fortunate.

Also at Elain for always sitting on her ass and being useless and trying to act like the victim after always having Nesta take care of her and protect her, yet turning her back on her as soon as she needed Elain to take care of her for once. Maybe also tear into her for being a bitch to Lucien and saying he deserves better than her.

In the end ereryone does get better but I don't know how yet.

The more I think about it the more I really believe that Eris and not Cassian will be Nesta's endgame in the way SJM wrote ACOSF. When she was switching Tamlin for Rhysand as love interest in ACOMAF she spent quite some time showing where they differ (like table seating, tithe vs taxes, teach or not to teach Feyre etc.). She does the same for Eris and Cassian. They are both generals but in one book Cassian deals with brewing discontentment amongs Illyrians and Eris tries to save his soldiers. Cassian gets excited about all the weapons Nesta can make for them and Eris says he would rather have her than that. Cassian stalks her and insults her when she rejects him and Eris tells her to let him know when she changes her mind. Cassian keeps bringing that he's a bastard and (as I recall) once even mentions that Nesta would probably want someone with better parentage - like Eris.

It's the same pattern of showcasing contrast.

Eris is one of the only people who can keep up with Nesta on the dance floor, Bryce is a dancer, Lucien as a courtier can certainly dance, Gwyn and Azriel can sing songs for Nesta to dance to, Nesta is constantly compared to a queen and Helion wants her (Rhys too but he’s in denial) and Lanthys promises to crown her the queen of queens, Nesta loves reading and so does Lucien, Tamlin canonically has a giant library and so does Helion, and you’re telling me Nesta ended up with…that.

One of the most annoying things to me about the “poor Cassian he’s just a sad little brute of a warrior and Nesta makes him feel so inferior” arc in ACOSF is that it’s literally ALL CASSIAN’S OWN FAULT. Yes, his early childhood is especially traumatic and unfair but he was taken in by Rhys and his mother young enough (even earlier than Azriel) that he was given far more luxuries than any of the other Illyrians. The timeline is a bit screwy for the bat boys early days but Rhys took power relatively young after the war and Cassian was immediately put into a high ranking position of political power. He has all the money/power/luxuries he could want and also he’s FIVE HUNDRED+ YEARS OLD.

This man is not some poor sad underdog being belittled by a LITERAL TWENTY YEAR OLD WHO SPENT MOST OF HER LIFE IN POVERTY. Even the foil they try to do between him and Eris for sympathy is ridiculous. Yes, Eris is politically strategic, well dressed, knows how to dance and be diplomatic but CASSIAN COULD BE THOSE THINGS TOO and we know that not just because it’s obvious from his standing (which again he’s had for centuries) but because LITERALLY AZRIEL IS.

Azriel is described as the politest one constantly (even better at it than Rhys), Azriel knows how to dance expertly with Nesta (without needing sudden training from Mor), Azriel knows how to handle Eris and general diplomacy and AZRIEL HAD THE SAME UPBRINGING AS CASSIAN IF NOT A WORSE ONE. Again, the weird dichotomy they try to create between Cassian and Nesta about their social standing is ridiculous enough because it misrepresents Nesta but also the victimization of Cassian as if it’s somehow the worlds fault for his behavior and vilifying of people like Eris and Nesta for calling him out on it is insane.
