── .✦ Zoro:
The Thousand Sunny is quiet most days, but today feels especially peaceful. The crew’s scattered across the deck sunbathing, napping, playing cards, and you? You’re on a mission.
Zoro’s disappeared again.
“Where did he go this time?” you mutter, padding softly down the hallway. You’ve checked the deck, the crow’s nest, even behind the kitchen. Nothing. Then you think... of course! The training room.
Sure enough, you step inside and spot him, dead asleep on the floor, his swords lying beside him like loyal dogs. He looks peaceful, his breathing deep and even. You smile. He really can sleep anywhere.
You don’t mean to sit down next to him, but somehow, you do.
Just for a minute.
Just long enough to rest your head against his shoulder.
Next thing you know, it’s dark. The room’s dipped in shadow, the ship creaking gently. You jolt upright, a little dazed.
“Zorosorry, I didn’t mean to—”
But he just grunts, shifting a little. His shoulder doesn’t move from under your cheek.
It becomes a pattern after that.
You find him again a few days later, this time slumped in a corner of the dining room. You lie down nearby. Sleep drags you under before you can think twice. When you wake, your head is in his lap.
“You’re fine” he murmurs, when you apologize again. Like it’s no big deal. Like he’s used to you being there.
And you start to think… maybe he is.
The naps become frequent. Easy. Comfortable. You stop trying to come up with excuses. You sit beside him on the deck while the others chatter. You lean against him while he sharpens his swords. He never pulls away.
One night, you find him leaning against the wall of the storage room, eyes half-lidded, arms crossed. The moment you walk in, he straightens, just barely, but enough for you to know he was waiting.
He pulls you in without a word. A kiss. Slow, familiar. His hands are warm on your back.
“I missed you” you whisper against his collarbone.
Zoro exhales through his nose “You saw me four hours ago.”
“Still.”
He doesn’t argue. Just leans his forehead against yours.
It’s sweet. Undisturbed. Until you hear footsteps and both of you freeze.
“Shhhit” you whisper, slipping away as quiet as you can.
Neither of you sees Chopper peeking from behind a barrel.
The next day, the crew is watching. Not subtly.
You notice Nami watching you with a knowing smirk. Robin sips her tea, but there’s amusement in her gaze. Sanji is glaring daggers at Zoro (okay, that’s normal), but Usopp is squinting at you both like he’s trying to solve a puzzle.
You clear your throat “What?”
Usopp narrows his eyes further “You and Zoro have been acting weird.”
Your heart nearly stops.
You glance at Zoro, who doesn’t even flinch as he takes another bite of his rice “What the hell are you talking about?”
“That you two are obviously acting weird lately...” Nami finally says.
Zoro doesn’t even blink “You’re imagining things.”
“You’re eating your vegetables...” she points out.
Zoro shrugs “Coincidence.”
“You showed up early to dinner” Usopp adds, suspicious.
“Must’ve been a fluke.”
Brook, not missing a beat, says, “I saw you napping with her head on your lap again. Yohohoho~”
You wish you could melt into your chair. But Zoro? Calm as ever.
“She was tired,” he says flatly “What’s the problem?”
Luffy gasps dramatically “You’re dating!!”
Zoro sighs “We were resting.”
You stare at your plate, but a warm touch to your hand under the table grounds you.
Zoro, looking at you like the whole world could wait.
Days pass. You try to be extra careful. Less glances. Less sneaky meetings. Less…everything.
But it doesn’t matter.
Because one night, the crew catches you.
It happens so fast. One moment, you’re on watch duty, and the next, Zoro is there, dragging you into a kiss. It’s heated, his hands gripping your waist, your fingers tangled in his hair, completely lost in each other.
Then “AH-HA!!”
You jolt apart.
Usopp is pointing at you both, eyes wide with betrayal “I knew it!!”
The entire crew is gathered behind him, staring.
Luffy tilts his head “Wait, were we not supposed to know?”
Sanji is fuming “Why him?! You could do so much better, Y/N-chan!”
Robin chuckles “It was quite obvious, honestly.”
Chopper bounces excitedly “I saw them sneaking around weeks ago!”
You cover your face in embarrassment “Oh my god, it was you!”
Zoro groans, rubbing the back of his neck “Tch. Should’ve known you idiots would figure it out. You never mind your own business.”
Luffy grins “Well, at least you don’t have to sneak around anymore!”
Zoro pauses, then shrugs “Guess that’s true.” He turns to you, smirking “Means I can kiss you whenever I want now.”
Your face burns “Zoro!!”
The crew erupts in laughter (except for Sanji, he cries louder).
Secret’s out.
Now you nap by his side without hiding. You lean against him on long afternoons. You sit close at meals. Luffy teases you both constantly. Sanji mutters curses under his breath. But it’s fine.
It’s more than fine. It’s peaceful.
That night, after dinner, you find yourself heading below deck. The ship rocks gently with the sea, moonlight shining through the portholes.
You already know where you’ll find him.
He’s sitting in the training room, back against the wall, swords neatly stacked beside him. When you walk in, he glances up, but he doesn’t say anything.
You sit beside him, stretching your legs out in front of you.
“I thought I might find you here” you say.
Zoro grunts, not disagreeing.
Silence settles in. Comfortable. You shift slightly, laying your head in his lap. He doesn’t move, just lets his fingers find their way into your hair, slow and soothing.
It’s a simple thing. The kind of closeness that doesn’t ask for anything in return.
His hand runs gently over your scalp. You feel your eyes drifting shut again.
“I like this” Zoro says, voice low, almost a rumble.
You blink sleepily, your cheek still pressed to his thigh “Hm?”
“You. Sleeping like this.” He pauses “On my lap.”
Your heart flutters at the quiet honesty. You glance up at him, but he’s not looking down, he’s staring straight ahead, the barest hint of pink on his cheeks.
“I like it too” you murmur.
Zoro’s thumb brushes just behind your ear, then down the back of your neck, repeating the motion. A steady rhythm. Grounding. Careful.
His fingers slip into your hair again, and he continues tracing lazy circles on your scalp. His other hand rests lightly on your arm, as if to say, I’ve got you.
You drift off to the sound of his breathing, calm and slow.
The next morning, sunlight filters through the windows.
You wake slowly, still curled up in Zoro’s lap. His fingers are tangled gently in your hair, and his thumb brushes your temple in slow, steady passes.
You tilt your head, eyes meeting his.
“How long have you been awake?” you whisper.
Zoro smirks, eyes warm “Long enough.”
You stretch, reluctant to move.
“I’m comfortable” you mumble.
He doesn’t stop touching your hair “Good.”
“Zoro?”
“Hm?”
“I think I’m getting used to this.”
He finally looks down at you, something quiet in his expression, softness, maybe. Peace.
“Yeah,” he says “Me too.”
And you smile, because in this floating world full of chaos, monsters, and adventure… it’s the quietest moments like this that feel the most real.

── .✦ Sanji:
Sanji is always everywhere. In the kitchen. On the deck. Serving drinks. Flirting with Nami and Robin. Spinning around like the lovestruck idiot he is.
Which is exactly why no one suspects a damn thing.
No one notices how his hand brushes against yours just a little longer when he passes you a plate. No one questions why he always makes extra of your favorite dish. And no one, not even Usopp, the self-proclaimed detective, realizes that when Sanji disappears from the kitchen at night, it’s to be with you.
Like right now.
It’s past midnight, and the kitchen is dimly lit. The scent of fresh tea and something sweet lingers in the air as you lean against the counter, watching Sanji work. His sleeves are rolled up, his vest discarded, and the soft glow of the lantern makes his golden hair look even more unruly.
“You’re spoiling me” you murmur as he places a small plate in front of you a delicate pastry, still warm.
Sanji grins, wiping his hands on a towel “Of course, mon amour. What kind of man would I be if I didn’t?”
You take a bite, humming in satisfaction “Mmm. Amazing.”
His eyes soften as he leans in, resting his palms on the counter on either side of you “I can think of something even sweeter.”
Before you can respond, he captures your lips in a slow, lingering kiss. You melt into him, gripping the fabric of his shirt as his fingers gently tilt your chin up. His lips taste like mint and a hint of the dessert he just made, and you lose yourself in the warmth of him.
Then a loud BANG from outside the door.
Both of you freeze.
Sanji pulls back, glancing at the entrance “Shit—”
You practically shove him away, wiping your lips as the door swings open.
“Oi, I swear, I'm not here to see your ugly face, I need—”
Zoro stops mid-sentence, looking between the two of you. His eyes narrow.
Your heart stops.
Sanji, ever the smooth talker, immediately turns to glare at him “Moss-head, do you have no manners? Barging into my kitchen?”
Zoro scowls “Tch. Like I wanna be here. Luffy’s whining about meat, and I—” His gaze shifts back to you. Suspicious.
You force a casual smile “Uh… late-night snack?”
Zoro doesn’t look convinced. His eyes flick between the two of you once more before he grunts “Whatever. Just bring food before Luffy eats Chopper.”
He turns and leaves.
You don’t breathe until the door clicks shut. Then you glare at Sanji “We almost got caught.”
Sanji just smirks, brushing his fingers over your wrist “But we didn’t.”
You always try to act normal. You really do. But Sanji makes it so damn difficult.
He’s always sneaking glances at you across the table. Always brushing against you when he walks by. Always bringing you your favorite snacks, acting like it’s nothing.
And apparently, the crew is starting to catch on.
“You guys ever notice that Sanji doesn’t flirt with Y/N as much as he does with Nami and Robin?” Usopp suddenly asks one day.
Your spoon nearly slips from your hand.
Franky strokes his chin “Huh. Now that you mention it…”
Brook chuckles “Ohhh, that is unusual.”
Luffy, mouth full, tilts his head “But Sanji flirts with everyone.”
Zoro scoffs “Yeah. Except Y/N.”
Your stomach drops.
Sanji, who had been stirring a pot at the stove, doesn’t even flinch “I’m just being a gentleman.”
Nami raises an eyebrow “Are you, though?”
Sanji turns, flashing his usual charming smile “Of course, my dear! Why would I treat Y/N-chan any different?”
You force a nervous laugh “Right! That would be weird, huh?”
They don’t look convinced.
Robin simply sips her tea, giving you both a knowing look.
In the end, it’s Luffy who ruins everything.
One day you and Sanji are in the storage room, tucked away between crates of supplies, wrapped up in each other. His hands are in your hair, his lips teasing against yours, and the rest of the world doesn’t exist... at least until the door slams open.
“SANJI, ARE YOU IN HE—oh.”
Luffy stops. Blinks. Tilts his head.
You and Sanji are frozen in place, practically tangled together.
Luffy’s face slowly lights up “OOOOHHHH!!!”
You scramble back “L-Luffy, it’s not what it looks like—”
“YOU GUYS WERE KISSING!!”
Sanji sighs, rubbing his temples “Goddammit.”
Before you can even try to shut him up, Luffy sprints out of the room.
You stare at the door in horror “Oh no.”
“OH YES” Sanji groans, already dreading what’s about to happen.
“GUYS!!” Luffy yells at the top of his lungs “SANJI AND Y/N ARE KISSING!!”
A beat of silence. Then an explosion of multiple “WHAT?!”
Usopp “I knew something was up!!”
Franky “That’s SUPER unexpected!”
Brook “OHOHO, young love~!”
Chopper “How long has this been going on?!”
Nami “You guys really thought you were being secretive?”
Robin chuckles knowingly “Adorable.”
Zoro grinning smugly “Called it.”
Sanji groans, burying his face in his hands “Kill me now.”
You sigh, crossing your arms “Well. Secret’s out.”
Sanji straightens, huffing dramatically before flashing you a smirk “At least now I don’t have to hold back anymore, mon amour~”
He dips you backward, kissing you full on the mouth right in front of the crew.
Cue, another round of screaming.

── .✦ Law:
Dinner on the Polar Tang is always loud. Jokes, clinks of silverware, and Bepo’s laugh echo off the metal walls.
You sit between Shachi and Penguin, pretending to listen to their story about a giant sea bass they swear was “this big”, but your eyes keep drifting across the table to Law.
Your secret boyfriend. Your captain. The man who never smiles in public, but melts when you’re alone.
No one knows. Not even Bepo. You’ve kept it quiet for months. Private looks, quick touches in dark halls, and soft kisses in his room late at night.
Today, before dinner, you stopped by his quarters. Things got… heated.
“Hold still” you say, laughing as you straddle his lap, pressing kiss after kiss on his jaw, his cheek, his neck.
“You’re gonna leave marks” Law murmurs, but his hands stay firm on your hips.
“Good,” you whisper against his throat, lips painted with your favourite lipstick “Let everyone wonder who’s bold enough to kiss the Surgeon of Death.”
He smirks, but you clean him up after. Or so you think.
Now, mid-dinner, you notice it.
Right on the collar of his white shirt, just above the neck, there's a soft red smudge. Lipstick. Your lipstick.
Your eyes widen.
Shachi nudges you “Hey, is that… is there something on Captain’s shirt?”
Penguin leans forward “Yo, Captain. You spill something?”
Law blinks. Looks down “What?”
Bepo tilts his head “No, that looks like lipstick.”
Silence falls over the table. Everyone stares.
You try to act innocent, chewing your food and glancing around like you’re just as confused.
“Lipstick?” you say, blinking “Who around here even wears lipstick?”
They all look at Ikkaku.
She doesn’t even look up from her bowl “Not me,” she mutters “That's not even my color.”
Penguin raises an eyebrow “So… that means…” He turns his head slowly toward you “You’re the only one who does.”
Shachi points between you and Law “Wait… Are you two…?”
Law doesn’t say a word. He just sips his tea like nothing’s happened.
You smile, wide and unapologetic “Guess I missed a spot.”
Silence.
Then chaos.
“WHAT?!” Shachi practically jumps over the table “YOU AND THE CAPTAIN?!”
“How long?!” Penguin shouts, eyes wide “Since when?! HOW DID WE NOT NOTICE?!”
Bepo stands up so fast he knocks over his stool “You’re dating the captain?!”
You raise an eyebrow “You guys okay? You look like you’re gonna pass out.”
“Don’t play innocent!” Penguin waves his spoon “You’ve been sneaking around with him! That’s our captain!”
Shachi gasps dramatically “All those times you disappeared after dinner… And that one time you came back with messy hair! I thought it was just wind!”
“Eheh, I am the wind” you say with a smirk.
Law sighs “You’re all loud.”
Bepo stares “So it’s true? You and Y/N?”
Law glances at you, then shrugs “Yeah.”
Another wave of panic.
“THE WAY HE SAID THAT!” Penguin screams.
“SO CALM—SO COOL—WHAT THE HELL!” Shachi is holding his head like it might explode.
Ikkaku finally looks up, deadpan “You’re all idiots.”
You lean into Law’s side, resting your head on his shoulder.
“Told you they’d freak.”
“Mm,” Law mutters “Still worth it.”
Bepo sniffles “I feel so betrayed… I thought we were a family.”
“We are,” you say “Just… a family with a very attractive captain who’s taken.”
“STOP,” Shachi yells “I CAN’T UNSEE IT.”
Law smirks just a little. And you can’t help it, you kiss his cheek in front of everyone, just to drive them a little more insane.
It’s been two days since The Lipstick Incident.
Two days of nonstop teasing.
“Morning, Y/N.”
“Or should we say Mrs. Surgeon of Death?”
You roll your eyes as Shachi and Penguin trail behind you like annoying seagulls.
“Captain! Can Y/N still go on missions or is she on girlfriend duty today?”
“Should we start knocking before entering the medbay now?”
Law mostly ignores them. Mostly. Except that time he dead-eyed Penguin and said, “Keep talking and I’ll switch your arms.”
The jokes died down for a few hours after that. But Bepo has become the most dramatic.
“I still can’t believe I found out at dinner like that,” he says, curled in a blanket like he’s mourning “I needed time to process.”
You plop down next to him on the couch “We didn’t mean to keep it from you. It was just… easier that way.”
He looks at you “Are you happy with him?”
You pause, then smile “Yeah. He makes me feel safe. And seen. Even if he doesn’t say much.”
Behind you, Law’s voice chimes in “I say plenty.”
You turn, surprised “You were eavesdropping?”
“It’s my ship.”
He walks over, drops a kiss on your forehead right in front of everyone. You expect chaos again, but the room is quiet.
Then Bepo grins “Okay. I approve.”
Shachi sighs “Fine. But if we ever hear weird noises from the engine room again—”
“—I will personally sedate you” Law cuts in.
The crew bursts into laughter.
Penguin raises his cup “To our captain and his secret weapon—Y/N!”
Everyone cheers. Even Ikkaku raises an eyebrow and gives you a subtle nod.
You look up at Law. He doesn’t smile much. But you see softness around the eyes, just for you.
Secret’s out. And honestly? It feels kind of nice.

── .✦ Koby:
The marine base is quiet at night, almost peaceful. You walk along the edge of the courtyard, your boots barely making a sound on the stone floor. The moon is high, casting soft light over the base. You pause near the training field and look around. No one’s there.
Good.
“Koby?” you whisper, stepping behind a storage shed.
A soft rustle comes from the shadows. Then he steps out. His hair is a little messy, his uniform jacket open.
“You’re late” he says, but he smiles.
You roll your eyes “Only by five minutes.”
Koby glances around. He takes your hand and pulls you closer into the shadow of the wall. His hand is warm. You lean into him, your heartbeat fast.
“If anyone sees us…” he says, his voice low.
“No one will,” you say quickly “They never do.”
He chuckles “We’re getting good at this.”
“You mean I’m getting good at it,” you tease “You still get nervous when someone says my name.”
“That’s because Garp keeps watching me like he knows something” Koby says, eyes wide.
You laugh “Maybe he does.”
Koby groans “Don’t say that.”
You lean up and kiss his cheek “Relax. We’re always careful.”
He smiles at you, that soft look he only gives when it’s just the two of you “I missed you.”
“I saw you this morning.”
“That doesn’t count. You were in uniform. You called me Sir.”
You smirk “Would you prefer Captain Sweetheart?”
Koby covers his face, laughing quietly “Please don’t.”
The sound of footsteps suddenly cuts the moment short.
You both freeze.
“Did you hear that?” you whisper.
Koby nods, already pulling away. You both hide behind the shed just as two lower-ranked marines walk by, talking about some drill tomorrow. They don’t see you.
Your heart pounds. When the footsteps fade, you let out a breath.
Koby looks at you, serious now “We can’t keep doing this forever.”
You know what he means. But you don’t want to think about it. Not tonight.
“Let’s just have this,” you say “Right now.”
He nods slowly, fingers brushing against yours again “Right now.”
Neither of you say the words out loud, but they’re there, floating in the silence.
This is dangerous but it’s totally worth it.
The sky looks angry today.
Wind whips through the courtyard, and the clouds hang low like they’re ready to fight someone. Fitting, considering your brain’s in a brawl with itself after what Helmeppo said the day before.
"Koby, huh?"
You can’t stop hearing it. His smirk. That I-know-something-you-don’t-want-me-to-know tone.
You march past the barracks, straight toward the supply shed, your usual spot. You pace in tight circles. The door creaks. Koby walks in, drenched from the rain already starting.
“I heard Helmeppo” he says.
You nod “I didn’t tell him anything.”
“I know. But he knows. He’s probably telling his pillow right now.”
You snort, even though your chest feels tight.
“What do we do?” you ask.
Koby looks out the cracked window “I don't think anyone would even care about what Helmeppo says, but I’ve been thinking about it all day.”
You wait.
“…What if we stop hiding?”
You blink “Just like that?”
He shrugs “We tell the truth. If we get in trouble, we get in trouble. At least it’s not lying anymore.”
You walk up to him, water dripping from the edge of the window onto your boots “You’re serious?”
He nods “You’re worth the risk.”
Before you can answer—BOOM! The door BURSTS open like it owes someone money.
There stands Vice Admiral Monkey D. Garp, holding a giant sack of snacks.
“I KNEW IT!” he bellows, pointing a meat bun at both of you like it’s a pistol “I KNEW YOU TWO WERE SWAPPING LOVE NOTES INSTEAD OF LOGBOOKS!”
Your soul nearly leaves your body. Koby jumps like he just got hit by lightning.
Garp stomps inside, water puddling under his boots “You think I’m old and blind?! I see everything! The glances! The disappearing acts! The suspiciously timed bathroom breaks!”
You and Koby look at each other, stunned.
“I—uh—we weren’t—” you stammer.
Garp holds up a finger “Don’t lie! I’ve seen more romance in your sneaky hallway nods than in a whole damn soap opera!”
Koby finally finds his voice “Vice Admiral Garp, we—”
Garp grabs two rice balls from his bag and tosses them at your heads.
“About time! I was betting with Sengoku you two would crack by this month!” He slaps Koby on the back so hard he almost falls over “Make it work, kiddo. Or I’ll make you regret everything.”
He stomps back into the storm, yelling at the sky.
“I WANT A WEDDING INVITE WHEN THIS BLOOMS INTO MARINE-SANCTIONED LOVE!”
Then he’s gone.
The silence is unreal.
“…Did he just bless our relationship and threaten us at the same time?” you ask.
Koby looks dazed “I think he also gave us lunch.”
You both stare at the rice balls on the ground.
You reach for one “So… no more hiding?”
Koby grins “No more hiding.”
You nod “Good. But that wasn’t romantic. That was a jump scare.”
By the next morning, everyone knows.
You’re not sure how.
Maybe it was Garp yelling across the courtyard. Maybe it was the rice ball slap. Maybe it was the way Koby smiled at you in front of a full squad meeting like it was no big deal. But now, it’s official.
You’re walking through the halls and two marines actually wink at you.
One gives you a thumbs-up. Another whispers, “Cute couple” like this is high school.
And then there’s Helmeppo, waiting by the stairs like he’s been practicing his lines all night.
“Well, well, well,” he drawls “Look who finally stopped sneaking off like a pair of guilty raccoons.”
You roll your eyes “Don’t you have training or something?”
“Oh, I do. But this is more fun,” he says, grinning “You two really had me fooled. All those ‘Yes, sir’s and ‘Permission to speak freely’s. Cute. Very professional. Very fake.”
“I will tape your mouth shut” you say calmly.
“Spicy,” Helmeppo whistles “No wonder Koby’s in love.”
You expect Koby to stammer. To panic. To turn bright red and pretend none of this is happening.
Instead, he wraps his arm around your waist and says “Yeah. I am.”
What.
You turn to him “Who are you and what did you do with the shy marine I was dating in secret?”
He grins, a little pink in the cheeks, but steady “I’m done hiding. I like holding your hand. I like saying it.”
Helmeppo looks personally attacked “You’re gonna make me throw up.”
Koby shrugs “Go drink some water.”
You’re still trying to recover from the whiplash when Koby turns to you again, softer this time. No audience, no drama, just him.
“I missed being close to you,” he says “Even just walking next to you without pretending it means nothing. I hated pretending.”
Your heart tugs.
“I know,” you say “I did too.”
He leans in, forehead resting lightly against yours “Now I can do this.”
He kisses you. Just a short, sweet kiss. Right there in the hallway.
Someone behind you gasps. Someone else claps. It’s probably Garp. Or Helmeppo. Or both.
You laugh into Koby’s shoulder “We’re never gonna hear the end of this.”
“Good,” he says “Let them talk.”

── .✦ Ace:
It starts small.
Ace, lover of chaos and borderline inedible food, begins pushing onions off his plate.
At first, nobody says anything. Maybe he just wasn't in the mood. Maybe he’s just not feeling it today.
Then it happens again.
And again.
.........And again.
By the fourth time, Thatch is watching him like he’s trying to solve a murder.
“You good, man?”
Ace blinks, mid-push “Huh?”
“You keep banishing onions like they stole your ship or something.”
Ace shrugs “They just taste weird lately.”
Thatch narrows his eyes “You used to eat them raw.”
“Tastes change.”
“You once drank onion juice.”
“I was bored.”
“You said it ‘cleared the sinuses.’”
Ace looks up at him with a done expression “…And it did.”
Thatch is unconvinced. He stares at the sad pile of abandoned onions like they hold answers.
A few days later, Marco walks across the deck and almost trips over you.
You’re napping.
Not unusual. But you’re napping exactly like Ace. Flat on your back. Arm flopped over your face. One boot still on, one off. Dead to the world.
Marco leans down “You good?”
You snore lightly and mumble something about “I hate onions... mh”.
Marco’s eye twitches.
He walks off slowly and finds Thatch.
“We have a situation.”
Izou, Marco, Thatch, and Jozu sit in a huddle like they’re planning a heist.
Thatch slaps down a napkin with dramatic flair.
“Exhibit A: Ace has stopped eating onions.”
“Exhibit B,” Marco adds, “she naps like a dead log in the middle of the deck. Just like him.”
“Exhibit C,” Izou says, adjusting his coat, “he brushed his teeth twice in one day.”
Silence.
Jozu blinks “…What does that mean?”
Izou sighs “He’s trying not to taste bad, obviously.”
Marco nods slowly “Only one reason for all this.”
Everyone says it at once “He’s kissing someone.”
They all lean back like they’ve cracked the code.
Thatch grins wide “And we all know someone who always hated onions.”
Back on deck, you yawn and stretch, bumping into Ace as he leans on the rail.
“Morning” he says, smiling softly.
“You smell like mint” you mutter, surprised.
He leans in slightly “That a bad thing?”
You shake your head, trying not to grin “Nah. Kinda hot, actually.”
What you don’t notice is the small army of Whitebeard pirates across the deck, hiding behind barrels, crates, and a suspiciously placed sail, watching you both with the intensity of trained spies.
Thatch whispers, “Look at him. He’s glowing.”
Marco squints “Is that a love glow?”
Jozu nods “He’s never glowed before.”
Izou fans himself “My heart can’t take this.”
Thatch whispers like he’s narrating a nature documentary “Observe: the rare, emotionally available Ace, brushing his teeth and avoiding onions for the sake of romance.”
Marco chuckles “Should we say something?”
Thatch shakes his head, evil smile creeping in “Not yet. Let’s have a little fun first.”
The crew knows. You just don’t know that they know. Which is why things get weird really fast.
First, Thatch starts offering you food. All the time. Which wouldn’t be strange except “Here, Y/N, extra meat, no onions. Just how you like it” he says sweetly, placing it in front of you with a wink.
You blink “Thanks…?”
He beams “Y’know. For important stuff. Like kissing for example.”
You choke “What?”
“Kissing your enemies goodbye in battle, of course. Wouldn't be cool if you smell like onions.” he says innocently “What else would I mean?”
You narrow your eyes. He walks off humming the wedding march.
Weird.
Later that day, Marco corners Ace.
“You ever think about switching toothpaste brands?”
Ace looks up from his nap spot, squinting “What?”
“I heard mint’s nice” Marco says, deadly casual.
Ace raises a brow “I already switched. Why?”
“No reason,” Marco shrugs “Just figured you’d want to impress… someone.”
“…Like who?”
Marco just walks off.
Ace stares after him, confused.
Then there’s Izou.
He appears next to you while you’re doing your hair, watching like a hawk.
“Hmm” he says thoughtfully.
“What?”
“You’ve got a new little strand tucked behind your ear. That’s new.”
You frown “So? My hair just got a bit too long.”
“Just reminds me of how Ace tucks his hair sometimes. Cute. Subtle. Copying your crush is a classic move.”
You freeze “Wh-What crush?”
He smiles slowly “Oh, I didn’t say you had one.”
You almost trip over the comb.
And don’t even get started on Jozu. He starts playing “matchmaker” out of nowhere.
“Hey Y/N, what do you think of guys with freckles?”
You pause “I mean, freckles are nice... why?”
“No reason.” He grins “You like fire powers too?”
“…You’re literally describing Ace.”
“Am I?” he says, like he’s shocked at himself.
You walk away suspicious. The crew snickers behind your back.
By the end of the week, you’re starting to get twitchy. Ace too.
“Are they acting weird?” you whisper one night as you sit beside him on deck.
“Definitely,” he says, arms behind his head “Thatch winked at me when I refused onions at dinner.”
“Marco suggested I take a nap ‘in a more open, sunny place.’” You glance at him “Sound familiar?”
Ace groans “They’re onto something.”
You whisper, “Do you think they know?”
He shrugs “They’re dumb. I think we’re safe.”
The crew, literally hiding, listening in with cups pressed to the wood.
Thatch whispers, “They think we’re dumb.”
Marco snorts “They’re in love and hiding it like toddlers under a table.”
Izou fans himself “Give it another day. Then we strike.”
It starts over breakfast.
Again, totally normal day. Birds chirping. Sun’s out. Pirates being loud. You stroll in beside Ace, acting casual. Like you didn’t kiss him good morning five minutes ago behind the barrels.
You sit down.
He sits next to you.
Everything is fine. Until Thatch slams his fork on the table and stands up dramatically.
“Okay, this has gone on long enough.”
You and Ace both freeze.
Marco leans in lazily, sipping his coffee “So. You two are dating, right?”
Your eyes go wide.
Ace doesn’t even blink.
And at the exact same time:
You: “No! Who would even date him?”
Ace: “Yeah, we’re obviously dating.”
Silence.
A beat.
Then Jozu chokes on his juice. Thatch drops his spoon. Izou wheezes like he’s been punched.
Marco just blinks “Well. That answers that.”
You turn to Ace in slow motion “WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY??”
He frowns slightly “That we’re dating? What—why did you say that so disgusted?”
You hiss “Because you weren’t supposed to just admit it!”
“Why not? We’ve been caught.”
“I was trying to lie!”
Thatch is howling “Oh my god—‘Who would even date him??’ Babe, the man LITERALLY has your name carved into his pillow.”
You whip around “He WHAT?!”
Ace shrugs “Just the initials. It’s cute.”
Izou fans himself “I’m going to die. This is the best breakfast of my life.”
Marco grins “This is better than I expected”
Jozu “It’s like watching a romance novel crash into a comedy sketch.”
You bury your face in your hands “I hate this. I hate ALL of you.”
Ace pats your back gently “I think it’s going great.”
You glare at him “You’re enjoying this.”
“Of course. I don’t have to sneak around anymore. I get to call you mine out loud now.”
That… makes your face heat up. You try not to smile. You fail.
Thatch yells, “THEY’RE BLUSHING. IT’S REAL.”
Ace slings his arm around your shoulders, smug and unbothered “Don’t worry, babe. We’ll survive the embarrassment.”
Izou smirks “Barely.”
Marco raises his cup “To the worst cover-up attempt in Whitebeard history.”
Everyone cheers.
You groan and slump against Ace, who kisses your temple like the traitor he is.
Soft. Smiling. Loud and proud.
And now you’re never living this down.

Tumblr media
"Here you go, Nami-swan~! Robin-chan~!"
Trying to make your anticipation less obvious, you ignore the way your body instinctively shuffles as Sanji's voice carries across the ship. As usual, there's a sway to his voice as he calls out to the only two other female members of the crew, a tray of drinks in his hand.
Nami, Robin and you were currently sat by Nami's tangerines, chatting and relaxing under the hot sun. There was still a bit of ocean to cover before you all arrived at the next island to reset the log pose, so everyone on the ship was doing their own thing. You knew Zoro was training, as he normally did around this time, while Usopp, Luffy and Chopper were entertaining themselves somewhere on the ship as usual. You couldn't see Franky or Brook, but clearly whatever they were doing was enough to keep them occupied.
Of course, Sanji's "own thing" involved dining and serving the ladies of the Thousand Sunny to his best ability.
The drink he sets down in front of Nami is a bright blue, topped with ice and a straw and looking something sweet. Robin's drink, although milder, looks just delicious. Both drinks are served to the women with a swish and a smile from Sanji, as Robin nods in thanks and Nami oblidges Sanji's wishes with a gentle; "thank you, Sanji-kun."
He admonishes them with a bright grin, and then, finally, turns to you. The lovesick look in his eyes at your two friends softens into something more tame as he meets your awaiting gaze. You try not to make your hopeful gaze so blatantly obvious but by the way Nami and Robin are both watching the interaction, you figure you aren't be so subtle.
The final drink left on the tray is set before you, with a little less florish but still as presented as nicely. Anything Sanji made always looked delicious, so, that fact isn't all that surprising.
"And here you are, Y/N."
Just like that, the hope deflates. It might seem silly (and you know it is), but the lack of an affectionate honorific like Nami or Robin's makes your heart ache. And it isnt just that--Sanji's actions with you are much more serious and done with far less exaggeration.
You've watched, time and time again, Sanji all but bend over backwards for everyone woman he's crossed paths with. It isn't just your crewmates, but strangers and enemies alike. Sanji rarely didn't have heart eyes when a woman was in his sights and even more so was he ever not declaring his love, care and affection all in one breath at them. He'll call them the sweetest names, speak to them with the softest of tones, always filled with warmth.
But with you? He never did.
When he talked to you, he didn't declare his love for you. He didn't have heart eyes. You were always just "Y/N" and nothing else. He still did anything you asked, but it wasn't in the way he did Nami, Robin or anybody else.
You shouldn't care. And you probably wouldn't, if your own heart didn't soar for Sanji. But it did, incredibly and painfully so. You'd felt that way about him since you'd first laid eyes on him, way back when Luffy had first invited you to join the crew.
And although watching him all but drop to his knees and declare his love for a woman not five seconds later, your heart had already chosen him and you'd been unsuccessful in changing its mind.
But clearly, your feelings wouldn't be returned. Sanji didn't even think you pretty enough to treat you like the rest, let alone actually return your feelings.
Keeping your eyes trained on your drink, you nod; "thank you, Sanji." Your voice is small, muffled. You don't see it, but Sanji frowns at the clear upset tone of your voice, but he doesn't express his concern, meeting Nami's eyes whose strangely glaring at him before heading back to the kitchen.
The second Sanji is out of ear shot, Nami is leaning towards you.
"Y/N--"
"You know what?" You cut off before she can even start, suddenly pushing yourself to your feet as Nami and Robin blink up at you in concern. "I'm actually not feeling well. I think the sun is a bit too much. I'm just gonna lay down, I think."
You're standing before Nami or Robin can get a word in otherwise--albeit they try. You purposefully ignore their calls of your name, ignoring the slight pang of guilt at having not even drank the drink Sanji prepared for you.
But, really, if you thought about it, he probably just made it for you because he felt bad otherwise. Not because he wanted to like he did Nami and Robin. And certainly not because he cared about you in any romantic way.
Really, you should just get over your feelings for him. It was only hurting you more in the end anyway.
-
"Nami, I really don't--"
"Just trust me, please?"
Staring back at Nami, you sigh. You could never really deny her when she looked at you like that (or really ever), so you know you've lost even before the words leave your lips.
"Fine," you huff, letting her continue to drag you back onto the Thousand Sunny despite the nerves twisting your insides. Nami hadn't really told what it was she was planning, but you figured it couldn't be anything good.
Especially after she'd all but dragged you with her the second the Thousand Sunny had docked at a new island that morning. She hadn't given you a chance to argue otherwise or for anyone to even aid you as she pulled you off with her.
She'd ended up dragging you to a clothing store. The first one she could find. When you expressed her confusion, she'd made up some lie about wanting to gift you a new outfit for all that helped you'd given her during your last battle.
When you'd reminded her that the two of you had been separated, she'd simply shushed you. And when that clothing store didn't have what she wanted, she'd dragged you to a different one and then another until she was satisfied.
You knew better than to argue with Nami, so you'd simply let her doll you up in different clothes all day.
Now, with the sun setting and adorned in new clothes that seemed far too fancy for someone who lived on a pirate ship, she was dragging you back to the Thousand Sunny without a single explanation.
Your answer, however, is given to you the second her eyes fall on Sanji.
He turns at the arrival of Nami (because you knew his excited smile wasn't for you), eyes twinkling and grinning ear to ear, only to pause sharply when his eyes fall on you.
You feel vulnerable in a way you never had, chest tightening as you watch him take you in.
"Sanji," Nami calls, grinning ear to ear and purposefully lacking the affectionate 'kun' she adds to the end of his name. "Me and Y/N went shopping today."
Eyes flickering from you, to Nami, then back to you, Sanji visibly swallows. "I can see that."
There's the briefest twitch in Nami's jaw, a sharp sigh leaving her mouth as the rest of the crew watches in curiosity. Then, with a bit sharper of a voice, she asks; "don't you think Y/N looks pretty in her new outfit?"
You breath hitches, turning to Sanji as you wait for him to respond.
Only, he never does.
His lips part as if to say something, but no words leave his lips. His eyes flicker back and forth from you, to Nami, to something past you, clearly uncomfortable.
Something aches painfully in your heart.
"Sanji," Nami calls again, this time her voice has a tinge of anger as she finally lets go of your wrist and stomps towards Sanji. "Just what--"
But you stop her before she can finish, grabbing her by the arm and desperately trying to bite back the tears that threaten to fall from your eyes.
"Nami, don't... don't worry about it," you cut in, voice cracking at the end. Both Nami and Sanji's eyes snap towards you, but you focus on Nami, desperately trying to keep what little of your dignity you have left. "It's okay."
"Y/N, you don't--"
"No, please, stop," you all but beg. You know Nami is just trying to help, but it's only making things worse. And Sanji weirded out. "It's clear Sanji doesn't... Sanji is uncomfortable, Nami. So just drop it."
A tear manages to slip past your defenses and the humiliation burns in you.
Nami, parted lips and stunned, stares back at you, unable to say anything. You then realize how the rest of the crew is watching, and the look on Sanji's face as he stares back at you hurts even more.
Without a single look back, you turn and run off the ship.
-
Sanji watches you run off, bewildered.
The entire crew does and silence follows as your footsteps grow further and further away until you're completely gone. And the silence follows for a second more, Sanji still trying to process whats even happened, before Zoro lets out a huff;
"You're an idiot."
Turning to the swordsman, Sanji's eyes blaze; "what did you say, moss-head?" And he moves to step towards him, but he can't even move an inch before Nami is in front of him, the front of his button-up clenched in her fist.
And her eyes burn with anger.
"Nami-swan? What--"
"You absolute idiot!" She cries, eyes blazing as she glances up at him. Sanji's lips part, baffled, as he jerks instinctively away from the rage radiating off of you. "Does your brain just not work? Or is there nothing in there?"
"N-Nami," Sanji breathes, honestly a bit hurt. "I don't--"
"Nami," Robin calls, stepping forward as she sets a hand on the younger girls shoulder. "Perhaps we should--"
"No," Nami argues, shaking her head. "I've tried to be understanding, but now this is really hurting Y/N." She spins back to Sanji, "she's crying because of you, you idiot!"
"I don't understand--"
"You like her, don't you?"
Sanji's cheeks burn instantly, spreading to the tips of his ears as his eyes widen. "I-I--!"
"There's no point denying," Nami cuts him off (again). "We all know it."
And as if Sanji couldn't be any more embarrassed, the rest of the crew adds to her point by nodding. Sanji realizes then it's hopeless, so with a sigh, his head bows.
"I do," he admits, voice quiet. "I really like her."
"Well she thinks you hate her."
Sanji's eyes instantly widen, heart falling to the pit of his stomach.
"Why would--"
"Sanji," Robin calls, distinctively more gentle. "You treat her so different. You don't fall to your knees for her like you do us. Nor do you declare your love for her every other second. If I weren't aware of your feelings for her, I'd think you hate her too."
There's a million of thoughts that run through Sanji's mind then. Racing through them, too fast for him to properly understand. All that's made abundantly clear to him is that he's hurt you.
He's hurt you so bad.
And he has to fix it.
Nami, seeing the look on Sanji's face, finally steps back, letting go of him with a huff.
"Sanji!"
Jumping at the sound of his captains voice, Sanji slowly looks back up at him.
"Go find Y/N!" Luffy smiles at him, extending his hand towards him with a thumbs up. "We'll be waiting for you when you guys are ready!"
-
You know you should be heading back to the ship.
The sun had completely set and the crew couldn't afford to waste time on an island where you'd all already gotten what you needed. It was dark, you were alone and the outfit Nami had bought for you and made you wear was no longer warm enough in the cool night air.
But you were embarrassed. Humiliated even.
How were you supposed to go back and face everyone? Let alone Sanji himself? How could you ever look him in the eyes again after you had made your feelings so abundantely clear and he had made his so as well?
The way he'd just stood there? Staring at you? When you know had it been any other woman he'd have screamed of their beauty to the skies.
Sniffling, you hug yourself tighter, tell yourself you'd head back when you'd cried all the tears you had in you out. Only then would you face that embarrassment--when it was physically impossible for you to cry anymore.
A wave of wind brushes back, pulling a shiver up your spine as you curl into yourself. You're thinking you might have to cry these tears faster or find a shop that's open later, when a jacket falls around your shoulders.
It surprises you, pulling a gasp from your lips as you spin to see who'd snuck up on you.
The last person you're expecting is Sanji.
Tears still streaming down your cheeks, you jump back from you, pushing yourself to your feet as you desperately wipe at your cheeks.
"S-Sanji, I..." But your voice trails becaues you don't know what to say. His arrival here stuns you so stupid and in addition to the tears, you feel like nothing could possibly make this night worse.
"Y/N, I--"
"You don't have to say anything," you cut in, words rushing without thought. "Nami shouldn't have put you in that position and I shouldn't have run off. Luffy probably made you find me, right? I'm sorry. He--... Please, just, I'm fine so--"
"Y/N," Sanji interrupts you, "I don't hate you."
Jerking, your lips are left parted as you blink up at Sanji.
He takes your silence as an invitation to keep going. Hands held in front of him, he steps towards you. "I don't hate you and I don't treat you differently because I think you're... not worth it or anything like that."
Hands falling to your sides, you inhale sharply.
"I... I've hurt you," Sanji whispers, head bowed. "I hurt you and I'm so sorry. The truth was that I didn't treat you the same as other women because... well... the way I feel for you goes beyond how I feel for them."
Brows furrowing, you shake your head. "I don't understand..."
"I like you--no, Y/N. I think I'm in love with you."
Blinking, your breath gets caught in the back of your throat, shocked.
"And I didn't know how to handle those feelings. I've never... felt so strongly about a woman as I have you, Y/N. So I acted indifferent and... well, I hurt you." He lets out a heavy breath, eyes imploring and face sincere. "And for that I'm so sorry."
Shaking your head, you step towards Sanji, pulling his jacket closer around yourself. "No, Sanji, you don't have to apologize."
"But I do," he argues, "for ever making you feel any less beautiful than you are. Or for making you think I... hated you."
In a surge of surprise, emotion and want, you reach for Sanji, taking his hands in yours as you shake your head again. He steps closer to you, moving one of his hands to cup your cheek. "Come back to the ship with me, love. And I can show you how much I truly love you."
Heart soaring at the pet name, you lean into Sanji's touch, nodding.
"I want nothing more."
Smiling gently, Sanji caresses the skin of your cheek. "And Y/N?"
"Yeah?"
"I think you look absolutely beautiful."

You’re a Yapper | One Piece HC
Tumblr media
As a fellow yapper, this felt necessary. Ive been thinking about expanding this to include a few additional characters, but for now, here's what I've got!
Characters: Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Law, Kidd
Tags: GN!Reader, no specific relationship mention, could be prerelationship
Check out my masterlist if you like stuff like this!
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
LUFFY
Tumblr media
Luffy didn’t even really notice it at first. Honestly, he’s a bit of a yapper himself.
If you get excited and start yapping about something, he’ll match you almost every step of the way.
It’s the passion in your voice that really gets him.
When he starts to really realize how yappy you are, though, is when it’s topics that don’t interest him.
He’ll still listen. Well, mostly. Kind of. Not really. This is Luffy we’re talking about.
But you’ll just keep droning on and on and on.
Luffy will just stand there, picking his nose, unsure of what’s even happening right now.
One time, he just outright laughed.
”You’re funny. Why do ya talk so much, anyway?”
You’re floored. Face, beat red. Eyes, wide. Before you can open your mouth to say anything else, he grins at you.
”It’s fine, let’s just talk about somethin’ else!”
You didn't even have time to be mad. Because, right away, a boisterous laugh left Luffy at the expression on your face.
From that point on, you took any of those comments in stride and made sure to talk about things that excited Luffy, too.
And for Luffy’s part? He’s content to just tease you and watch the way your face scrunches. For totally platonic reasons, of course.

ZORO
Tumblr media
At first, Zoro didn't know what to think about it.
He’s used to people just talking to him. He swears he doesn’t have one of those faces - he’s made himself relatively unapproachable.
When you’re stoic and quiet like he is, though, people just seem to talk to you.
Luffy, Nami, Usopp - the whole ship is full of yappers.
And it's not like he really minds it. Sometimes it's interesting, and when he's in the mood for it, he has a good time engaging or making jokes.
It’s when he notices how you just don’t stop that he realizes this might be a problem.
He doesn’t always hate it. Quite honestly, he’ll easily fall asleep to it, and you don’t seem to mind.
It’s just sometimes when he’s already feeling exhausted from a workout that it can be a bit…grating.
”You just don’t shut up, do you?”
You were babbling about something - some kind of story, Zoro wasn't paying attention. He was trying to take a nap on the deck when you had just started, so the words slipped out of him faster than he meant.
That shut you right up, leaving Zoro feeling way more guilty than he anticipated it would.
He was expecting some sort of snappy comment, some sort of argument, which wouldn’t be completely unexpected of you. But you just went silent. And walked away.
Yeah, he was regretting it almost immediately.
Why would it matter, though? He’d get what he wanted - some peace and quiet, a chance to finally take a real nap on the deck again without any interruptions. No more training sessions interrupted with constant blabbering. Being left alone to his saké while the rest of the crew yapped and he could listen in.
But he found himself missing the way you’d sit next to him and how excited your voice would sound the few times he’d actually listen. He missed the way your eyes lit up when he’d give you a small nod of acknowledgment, and the way you beamed in delight whenever he’d follow it up with a hum or a question.
He eventually, very reluctantly, apologized.
“Yeah, you still talk too much, but it’s fine. Kinda missed hearing it.”
The moment you forgave him for snapping on you, he was more relieved than he thought he’d be to hear you rambling to him again.
》* 。 • ˚ ˚ ˛ ˚ ˛ • 。* 。° 。* 。 • ˚《
SANJI
Tumblr media
Sanji was floored when you first started rambling to him. One - because you chose to rant to him. Two - because you just talk so much.
It wasn’t an issue. Not at all. In fact, it helped break up the day when he’d be busy around the kitchen.
He’d love if you just sat in a chair peeling potatoes while talking to him all day long. About anything and everything, really.
The sound of your voice is like a chime to him, as pretty as you are, and he’s happy to be given the privilege to listen to it.
He’s happy to engage. He’ll ask questions, add comments of his own.
Even if he wasn’t already completely enamored with your presence, he had already decided that having you here talking about whatever inane crap came to your head was better than him being alone.
He smokes a cigarette, taking small breaks to lean against the counter and just listen to you. Honestly, sometimes in amazement. It was impressive how long you could talk.
One time, after a particularly long rant about how stupid one character of a book you were reading was, you offered him an apology for going on a rant.
“Sorry for talking so much, just had to get that out.” You said, and Sanji immediately shook his head and laughed.
”Are you kidding? I could listen to you talk all day, gorgeous.”
It was such an easy answer for Sanji, and after that, it stuck with you every time you decided to waltz into his kitchen for another yap session.
He'd always have your favorite drink and snack at the ready!
》* 。 • ˚ ˚ ˛ ˚ ˛ • 。* 。° 。* 。 • ˚《
LAW
Tumblr media
When you first joined the crew, Law wasn’t worried about everyone getting along with you.
You seemed friendly enough. Chatty, maybe, but that just meant you’d fit right in with everyone else on the sub. Their personalities were far more vibrant than Law considered his own to be, and that’s how he preferred it.
It’s in the few first times that he was cornered by you that he fully realized just how relentlessly chatty you were. And you had selected him to be your regular target.
You were rambling. Ranting. Droning on and on about something that he was listening to and absorbing, but wasn’t necessarily interested in.
He replied politely, though, for the most part. Nodding, humming, giving small comments occasionally. He didn’t have a reason not to, and he was in a good enough mood.
For a while, he was okay with being mostly quiet just to let you get it out of your system.
It was only the fourth or fifth time that you were yapping to him over dinner that he finally interrupted.
“You always talk this much?”
He really didn’t mean it as an insult. Granted, he wasn’t exactly thrilled about having you talk his ear off while he’s eating, but he wasn’t necessarily bothered by it. It was just…regular annoying.
Yes, he’s ranked how annoying something is on a scale before. It helps him when dealing with people.
When he realized he messed up, he didn’t really know how to recover it from there.
You’d still talk, of course, but you stopped cornering him. You droned on to Bepo or Ikkaku instead. For some reason, that didn't sit right with the surgeon.
So, the next time you were alone together, he just kind of started talking to you. About something random he remembered you talking about. He still didn’t fully get it.
That started you up again, and if you weren’t so busy gesticulating with your hands and explaining whatever the hell you were explaining, you might have been able to see him smirk.
》* 。 • ˚ ˚ ˛ ˚ ˛ • 。* 。° 。* 。 • ˚《
KIDD
Tumblr media
The Victoria Punk was no stranger to loud, booming voices. It goes without saying that some of the most boastful remarks came from the Captain himself.
When you joined the crew, it seemed nearly seamless. Some growing pains here and there, but overall, you'd proven to be a strong and capable crewmate.
The only thing, Kidd learned, is that you never shut the fuck up.
Whether it was excitedly recalling a battle you'd been a part of, showing off your weapons or abilities, or even just talking about the damn news.
You always had input, and it had slowly begun to grate on the Captain's nerves.
It was during one particular day at port where you were rambling about - oh, who knows? It was incessant. And Kidd was wanting to address the crew.
“Would you shut the hell up?”
He noticed the way you bristled, your face scrunched, but you said…nothing.
Thank god, you finally seemed to stop.
But you didn't start back up. At all.
This went on for a few days, and somehow the silence was as annoying for Kidd as the talking. Maybe even more.
Where the hell did that sweet voice go? The nonstop chatter about the new island or the mission? The bragging about how you'd taken down a Marine, something he noticed and nearly pointed out himself?
He cornered you on the deck the morning before you set sail, finally having had enough. Again.
“The silent treatment, you damn brat? You'd better start being a chatterbox again before I kick your ass.”
Yeah, you rub it in his face from that day on.

Pining Zoro and blind-to-it Reader?
un-certainly
opla!zoro; 3,422 words; fluff fluff fluff so much fluff, straw hat!reader, fem!reader, (seeminlgy) clueless!reader, lots of pining, banter, teasing, smitten!zoro, the whole nine yards
summary: in which everyone knows zoro's got it bad for you, except for you, of course.
Tumblr media
one.
“so… i should just… talk to her.” zoro says uncomprehendingly, blinking at an exasperated nami, who has to take a long, steadying breath to keep from shoving him overboard. the waves beneath them are calm, the day above them, a gorgeous, endless stretch of blue so brilliant it almost pains the eyes to stare.
nami resists the urge to pinch her nose bridge as a dull ringing starts to echo in her ears.
“yes. sweet god — just go up to her and say ‘hey, i think i might like you’ and i guarantee you, things will go from there.”
zoro shifts his tightly knitted arms, squinting at her as if she might be lying or purposefully luring him into a trap, “go? so there’s a chance it could go badly.”
this time, nami really does drop her face into her hands, groaning loudly.
“well there’s always a chance it could go badly —”
“sounds like a bad idea to me.” zoro looks away, eyes still narrowed as the light sea breeze ruffles his hair, a colony of news coo squawking loudly overhead, one of them dropping down to careen towards the going merry, landing on the thick white railings next to them, ruffling it’s feathers as nami pushes off to dig in her pocket for some berry.
“oh! newspapers here!” your voice makes both zoro and nami jump, and a second later you’re bounding up the stairs to the forecastle deck and stuffing some berry into the news coo’s bag. your arm brushes by zoro’s as you lean over to offer the news coo a piece of dried shrimp, which it considers for a second before leaning forward and gobbling up.
nami gives zoro a soft shove from his other side, leveling him with a meaningful look before turning and making a show of going to check on her tangerine grove.
zoro doesn’t have time to glare before the news coo takes off with a pat-pat-pat of wings, leaving you and him very much alone on the sunny fore-deck. he purses his lips, casting about for something to say even as you hum happily to yourself, your arm still painfully close to his as you unroll the newspaper and flip though, blissfully unaware of the inner turmoil of the man standing next to you.
“uh — anything interesting?” zoro asks, desperate for something, anything to fill the silence.
you shrug, “nope… just the usual — uptick in piracy along the coast, tightening of marine patrols…” you turn and cast him a grin that makes his stomach twist inside him like a contortionist from buggy’s freakshow.
zoro clears his throat, thumbing absently at the hilt of his swords before taking a deep breath.
“hey — uh…”
“hm?” you turn towards him, with your wide attentive eyes and your stomach-curling smile.
zoro blinks, his gaze flickering from your soft button nose to the way the wind twines its fingers in the loose strands of your hair. two twin pearls glitter from the lobes of your ears and he feels the tension melt from him as he sucks in another breath.
just say it, nami had said, just tell her.
really, how hard could it be?
“i uh — there’s something i wanna talk —”
“wait, hold still,” you say, your eyes going wide as you lean forward suddenly and zoro’s visions tunnels in around him — you’re close, closer, too close/too close/too close!
your fingers card through his hair and he has to bite back the shiver that rockets down his spine as you pull your hand back with a black-tipped feather.
“the news coo left you a present,” you say, laughing as you offer him the feather.
zoro considers it for a second before taking it from you.
“it could’ve left worse,” he says, recalling the few times that he’d gotten bird shit in his hair.
you giggle; the sound makes him want to scream but instead, he settles for clearing his throat again.
“now, you make a wish,” you say, nodding towards the feather in his hand.
“never heard of that before,” he frowns slightly, “thought you could only wish on dandelion seeds and…” he waves at the endless stretch of sky above you, “shooting stars and stuff.”
your smile is so wide that zoro thinks his cheeks might start to hurt for you.
“haven’t you heard that rules are meant to be broken?” you ask, offering him the feather again. he looks at you, then at the feather, and the back at you.
“okay — i wish —”
you squawk flapping your hand, “no! you can’t tell me what the wish is! otherwise, it won’t come true!”
zoro smirks, cocking an eyebrow, “i thought rules were meant to be broken?”
you blush the most darling shade of red and he decides to take it easy on you (and, honestly, himself). so, he plucks the feather from your hand and closes his eyes, making a soft, silent wish. a wish that, in truth, he’d been making since the moment he met you.
when he opens his eyes, it’s to find you staring.
“kay. now what?” he asks, rolling the feather between his thumb and forefinger.
“now…” you gently tug the feather from him before opening your palm and letting the wind whisk it away, “you let the sea take your wish. and if you’re worthy, it’ll grant the wish for you!”
zoro lets out a breathy laugh, “if i’m worthy? and how’s it supposed to know that?”
you lean in, and if it were anyone else, he might’ve been annoyed, but with you, somehow, he finds himself charmed.
your voice is conspiratorial as you whisper, “because… the ocean knows all the secrets the sky can’t keep.”
two.
at dinner, with you by his side, usopp detailing some imaginary adventure, nami laughing, sanji blowing smoke rings towards the middle of the fire-lit deck. your cheeks are pink from the wine everyone is passing around and for a second, you bump into him and turn — he turns towards you too —
your eyes catch like unsuspecting fish to a bobbing hook and zoro feels his stomach tug as you grin up at him, the night sky caught in the flutter of your lashes.
he can’t help the way his gaze flicks down to your lips, and then back up again.
“feel like sharing?” you ask, nodding towards his half-finished bottle.
wordlessly, he hands the bottle to you and watches as you bring the mouth to your lips and take a long drink. he tracks the soft bobbing of your moon-lit throat and feels his own mouth go dry at the sight.
across the fire, sanji watches with a growing smile and nami rolls her eyes.
“oi, moss-head — mind if i take a swig too?” sanji asks as you hand back the bottle, dragging the back of your hand across your lips, and zoro turns to pin sanji with a glare.
“get your own,” he says, before polishing off the rest with a few hard sips and tossing the bottle into a rapidly growing pile.
zoro licks his lips and tries not to think about the way your lips had fit around the bottle just right; he tries not to wonder if you’d taste like wine. or, if he’d even have the mind to think that far if you were to let him kiss you.
three.
“… and then, you pull it through… like this?” you slowly bring your arm through a swiping movement, your hands clutched around the hilt of a wooden training sword. zoro sighs, shaking his head.
“uh — not quite — here,” he pushes off from the barrel he’s sitting on to circle around behind you, wrapping one hand around both of yours, the other palm curling around your middle to press against your stomach, “you’re breaking in your waist again — keep your core tight and —” he helps you swing the sword through in a swift arc.
“oh.”
it takes him a second to realize how close you are, how he can feel your entire back pressed against his entire front, how perfectly you fit into his arms, how easy it’d be to hold you to him and never let go.
“so just… practice that a few hundred times,” he says, stumbling back as his cheeks go hot and he feels the inexplicable urge to toss himself into the calm, saltine waves below, if only to cool down just a bit.
“will you practice with me?” you ask, your smile wider than the sky is wide — zoro is sure.
he blinks at you for a second before making a show of sighing and rolling his eyes.
“ah… i guess i could use a bit of practice too.”
he pulls out the wadou ichimonji and takes his stance next to you.
“ready?” he asks.
you nod, glancing over and adjusting your posture.
“okay, how many are we doing?”
zoro casts around for a number, “a thousand.”
“zoro!”
“five… hundred?”
you cast him a look that makes his stomach flip inside him.
“how about we start with a hundred, and then i’ll see how i feel from there?”
zoro clicks his tongue, smirking, “i could do a hundred in my sleep.”
you make a show of rolling your eyes, “fine then — go take a nap!”
zoro huffs as he clears his throat, “right then — let’s start — one, two —”
you squeak as you hurry to catch up, jumping as he reaches out a hand to correct your posture.
up on the foredeck, luffy watches with usopp by his side.
“hey! i wonder if zoro would teach me sword tricks if i asked!”
usopp sighs, clapping luffy on the back even as he shakes his head.
“uh — not that i think he wouldn’t but … maybe you should just… let them do their thing, yeah?”
four.
“i think you really should tell her,” luffy says, slapping zoro on the shoulder, a bit harder than he’d intended. zoro winces, pressing a palm to his chest — still sore from their recent raid.
“i don’t know what you’re talkin’ about.”
luffy laughs, leaning forward against the railing, “nami said you’d say that.”
zoro fights the urge to scowl as he sighs, his eyes narrowed at the damnably calm horizon. at least if the weather weren’t so nice, he could make up an excuse to leave but —
“really, what’s the worse that could happen?” luffy asks.
zoro grunts, shooting luffy a sidelong look, “oh i don’t know, she doesn’t feel the same and shit gets awkward and —” he waves a hand at the going merry, “the crew falls apart.”
thankfully, luffy doesn’t pause to call him out on for once not denying it.
instead, he lets out a contemplative hum, “hm… yeah, that could happen. but… i don’t think it will.”
inside his chest, zoro’s heart clunks, strange and uncoordinated.
“why? she say something to you?” he can’t keep the curiosity from his voice, the stomach-squeezing anticipation he’d only ever associated with the heat of battle and a really good fight. but now, he feels it whenever you get too close, and he wonders if he can go insane like this — if one day his heart might just give out.
“nope!” luffy’s voice is too bright, too cheerful, and zoro feels himself rolling his eyes before he can stop himself, “i’ve just got a feeling!”
“a feeling.”
“yeah! and — have a little faith! the straw hat crew isn’t that fragile.”
with that, and another hearty clap to the shoulder that leaves zoro hissing in pain, luffy clomps off towards the kitchens, where sanji is already doing dinner prep. zoro lets out another sigh as he straightens, carefully stretching his arms to test the range of motion.
above him, a flock of migratory geese fly southward in a soft, arrowhead formation. zoro holds up a hand to shield his eyes from the sun as he watches them pass overhead.
a single feather flutters down towards him and he finds himself reaching out to catch in the palm of his hand.
a wish, huh, he thinks, twirling the feather between two fingers before casting around to make sure no one else can see him. satisfied that everyone else is either too far away or below decks, zoro closes his eyes and makes a wish —
alright roronoa, please. don’t fuck this up.
five.
“ahem.” zoro clears his throat after dinner, making a point to down a couple more drinks than usual. he’s never been one to believe in liquid courage, but… it couldn’t hurt, right?
“can we, uh, talk?”
you smile a smile that threatens to crack his chest wide open, nodding.
“sure! what’s up?”
across the room, sanji visibly stills but nami catches his eye and shakes her head ever so slightly.
“c’mon… not in here,” zoro says, jerking his head towards the hallway that leads to the decks above.
“what’s got you so secretive all of a sudden?” you ask as he leads you all the way up to the crows nest, reaching down to help tug you up, letting his hand linger in yours as you grin up at him.
“i’m allowed to have secrets,” he says, turning to stare out at the darkened sea, the summer moon hanging low and full-bellied over the glittering waters, the stars winking like so many all-seeing eyes.
“we all are, but… i thought we’d gotten all your big ones after that one night the whiskey bar —”
zoro coughs, “alright, alright — don’t need to bring that up again.”
you laugh, leaning forward to pillow your cheek against your crossed arms, propped up along the edge of the crows nest.
“so? what’s this new secret, then?”
zoro swallows, “uh — wouldn’t exactly call it new.”
“alright then, an old secret.”
“not super old, either —”
you turn to look at him, half-exasperated, half-amused, but when you catch sight of his expression, you still, pressing your lips.
“zoro? is… everything okay?”
he ticks his tongue against his teeth and lets out a long breath, as if bracing himself for something before he says —
“yeah. i think —” he clears his throat again, trying to recall what nami had said about just saying it and he tries again.
“i think i might like you.”
the coil in his chest feels tight enough to snap, but you’re quiet as he turns to steal a glance at you.
“oh,” you say, you expression curiously contemplative as you look out over the darkened seascape.
zoro has to physically stop himself from shaking you by the shoulders — say something, goddamnit! say anything!
“so…” he says, knitting his arms across his chest instead.
you turn towards him, your eyes bright as twin stars.
“you think you might like me, right?” you ask, and for a second, zoro can only blink down at you, completely thrown by your lack of reaction. of all the things he’d imagined you doing — everything from getting angry to apologizing to throwing yourself at him with an impassioned speech about how you’d felt the same since the beginning — this was not one of them.
“uh… yeah, pretty sure that’s what i said.”
you cock your head, a quick, bird-like gesture that makes zoro’s heart skitter inside his chest, threatening to leap from his mouth as you continue to stare up at him, completely unabashed.
“ah… so what do you think we should do then?”
zoro stares, “… do?”
“yeah, because if you’re not sure if you like me… we should do something to make sure, right?”
and it’s then that he sees the soft, playful uptick of your lips, the glittering darkness behind your eyes. the tension in his chest seems to loosen even as he lets out a breath, chuckling before quirking an eyebrow and taking a step towards you, caging you in against the crows nest’s edge.
“mm. you’re right — i can think of a few things we could try, though.”
“yeah?” you voice is little more than an exhale on the wind, but it’s the last thing zoro tastes before he finds his lips on yours.
as far as kisses go, zoro would later think back, it was a pretty damn good one.
it started as a slow kind of kiss, a soft, unfurling of breath on breath, and then lips on lips. the ghost-friction of promises made and kept and unbroken, the first spark to a fire that had been threatening to consume him since the moment he’d heard you laugh.
and then — just like that, he’s kissing you. and you’re kissing him back, the gravity and inevitability of it making his head spin even as he presses in closer. it is sweet and warm and trembling — soft and hard and deepening. he runs his tongue along the seam of your mouth and savors the way you gasp open for him.
just him.
he swallows it like he wants to swallow you, reaching up to sink his fingers into the silk and gossamer of your hair, pulling you so close he can feel your heartbeat thrumming against his chest, your nails as they curl into the linen of his shirt.
it takes everything inside him to pull back, and everything else left not to dive right back in again. you’re both panting, a little breathless, and zoro — a lot relieved.
“so…” you say, your tongue flickering out to lave across your bottom lip.
zoro doesn’t try to stop his eyes as he tracks the spine-tingling motion.
“so?”
you grin, biting back the shiver that chases through you at the deep, base rumble of his voice, echoing from his body to yours.
“what’s the verdict? have you decided if you like me yet?” you ask, batting your lashes even as he watches your own eyes drop down to his lips. a dark, warm, purring satisfaction curls inside his chest at the way your pupils dilate, black as the night, bright as all her favorite stars.
“hm,” zoro hums, leaning down to skim a knuckle along your jaw, slowly guiding your face towards his again, “dunno… jury’s still out… might have to try it a few more times. y’know… just to be sure.”
“mm…” you sigh as he leans down to graze his teeth along your pulse point, fingers tightening around your waist as he feels you tremble in his arms, “y-yeah… wouldn’t want you to be —” you hiccup as he sinks a soft bite into the juncture of your neck and shoulder, “uncertain.”
“no…” and his voice is all groan and gravel as he lets himself breathe you in, “we certainly wouldn’t want that.”
bonus.
far below, beneath the decks of the going merry, sanji takes a long pull from a post-dinner cigarette, his lips twisting into a concerned sort of frown.
“it’s been a while since they’ve been up there. think we should go check on them?”
luffy shugs, still happily picking at the remains of the turkey carcass sitting in the middle of an oblong plate.
“they should be okay — i mean, they say that no news is good news, right?”
“uh, not sure that applies to this kinda thing,” usopp says as he makes to peak out of the nearest window.
nami swirls her drink, “i think they’re fine. and we’d hear if zoro threw himself off the crows nest, right?”
across the table, sanji blinks and luffy pauses in his munching.
“whoa, you think he’d really do that if she rejects him?” usopp asks, his face going a little pale.
nami rolls here eyes, “no.” and then a moment later, “but really, we’d hear him if he jumped, right?”
luffy licks his lips, shrugging, “dunno, probably though. he’s pretty heavy so he’ll make a pretty big splash.”
sanji taps a bit of ash into his empty bowl and lets out a long suffering breath.
“yeah, y’know really, no news is good news.”

Got married by accident… Thanks, Vegapunk?
You and Luffy accidentally get married by a hyper-intelligent vending machine on Egghead Island. The crew takes it way too seriously, but Luffy is surprisingly into it.

Egghead Island sparkled like something out of a futuristic dream. Or a nightmare. Depending on who you asked.
Laser drones zipped overhead, holographic sharks swam through the air, and the vending machines charged a 40% service fee to flirt with you.
You were already over it.
“What the hell is this?” you asked, staring at the sleek, metal screen of a suspicious-looking marriage kiosk that had popped out of a wall.
"CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR NUPTIAL INTEREST!" it blared.
You winced. “Nope. Not interested.”
Behind you, Luffy was already poking the glowing buttons like a toddler with a remote. “Oooh! What’s this do?”
“Don’t press that.”
He pressed it.
A beam of golden light scanned the both of you. "MATCH ACCEPTED," it beeped. “YOU ARE NOW LEGALLY MARRIED UNDER VEGAPUNK CODE 6.66 SUB-SECTION WE BALL.”
You blinked. “…What.”
Luffy blinked. “Cool.”
He grabbed your hand with that signature, easy grin. “We’re married now! Sweet!”
“LUFFY—”
Twenty seconds later, the rest of the crew found out.
Chopper: “You guys WHAT!?”
Sanji: (sobbing) “WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO ME, Y/N-CWAAAAN!?”
Robin: (smiling behind a book) “How lovely. I hope it was a beautiful ceremony.”
Zoro: “Of course you two would get hitched by a vending machine.”
Franky: “THIS IS SUPER!! WE GOTTA THROW A RECEPTION!!”
Jinbei: (serene) “I’ll call this divine destiny.”
Usopp: “Waitwaitwait—do we all have to get married now?? Is it contagious?!”
Nami, arms crossed, was the only one who looked vaguely sensible. “We’re not on a honeymoon, you idiots. We’re on a mission. Can’t believe you got fake-married on an island run by six genius maniacs.”
“It’s not fake,” Luffy said proudly, wrapping his arm around your shoulders.
“It’s legally binding,” the vending machine added.
“LUFFY,” you groaned, facepalming. “We are not actually married—”
“But you held my hand,” he said with a pout.
“I was trying to stop you from pressing the stupid buttons!”
“But you didn’t let go shishishi” he added.
You were going to kill him. Or maybe yourself. Or maybe the vending machine.
Over the next few days, the crew refused to let it go.
Nami “accidentally” started assigning you and Luffy shared quarters.
Franky built a honeymoon hover-chair for two that followed you around and played romantic music at inopportune moments.
Brook wrote a song called “Wedded Bliss on a Warped Island” and played it constantly.
Zoro made gagging noises every time you entered a room.
Even Vegapunk Stella got involved.
“Fascinating bond signature,” he mused, looking at the machine’s readings. “Unusual compatibility levels. Perhaps a cosmic entanglement. Or just dumb luck.”
You were ready to drown in holographic seagull juice.
Luffy didn’t help.
He insisted on calling you "my spouse."
He’d hold your hand while walking down the lab halls like it was the most casual thing ever.
He used you as a pillow during naps—okay, not new behavior—but now he’d nuzzle your shoulder and murmur, “This is what married people do.”
You tried to zap him with a soft stun from your energy-based power.
He laughed and asked for more.
He started sharing his food.
You shared back.
He offered you half his meat skewer.
You offered him half your fruit cube.
You even started sitting next to him at dinner on purpose.
...You were doomed.
One night, while stuck in a laser barrier room together (thanks to Luffy pressing another suspicious button), things got quiet.
“Hey, Y/N,” Luffy said, lying next to you on the cold sci-fi floor.
“Yeah?”
“Do you wanna be married for real someday?”
You paused.
“With… you?”
“Yeah.”
You turned to face him. “You don’t even know what marriage is.”
He smiled, soft and crooked. “I know it means I get to be with you all the time.”
You blinked. Your powers, which usually sparked when you were annoyed or overwhelmed, glimmered gently around your fingertips like starlight instead.
You didn’t respond. Just nudged his leg with yours.
He took that as a yes.
The next day, the machine short-circuited itself trying to process “divorce.”
You pretended to be annoyed.
But when Luffy yelled, “Don’t worry, I didn’t want a divorce anyway!!” and tackled you into a hug, your powers sparked again—glowing soft blues and pinks this time.
And you let him hold you.

Can I please request reader gifting sanji a new tie. It's one of those gimic types (shaped like a fish or with a naked lady underneath type) and he appreciates the gift so he has to wear it but reader keeps gifting him increasingly ugly ties until sanji eventually breaks and has to tell him that while he loves the gifts he can't take one more ugly tie.
(Sorry for all the sanji! I definitely have a favourite, hope you don't get bored of writing for him <3)
Anon, do not apologise. I too, like you, have an obsession with this man. I could write about him for DAYYYYYYS.
I really liked this prompt^^ as a lot of fun to write.
Enjoy!

Tie-ranny
Sanji x reader
The first tie was a joke. You swore it was a joke.
It was a silk monstrosity in the shape of a koi fish—glossy, orange, and just the slightest bit too anatomically accurate. You found it in a tiny market stall on an island known for its quirky fashion, and you immediately thought of Sanji.
Because of course you did.
The man wore suits like second skin, cooked like a god, and smoked like a noir protagonist. He had style. He had grace. He needed a stupid tie shaped like a fish.
So, naturally, you bought it.
You approached him in the galley after dinner service, when most of the crew was lounging about the deck, nursing full stomachs and half-lidded eyes. Sanji was wiping down the counters, still wearing his signature black shirt and that sleek, boring tie.
Time to change that.
“Sanji,” you chirped, hands behind your back. “I got you something.”
He glanced up, smiling instantly. “For me? Mon amour, you shouldn’t have.”
You snorted. “Trust me, I probably shouldn’t have. But here.”
You revealed the tie like it was a weapon. The way his smile twitched said he wasn’t sure if it wasn’t.
He took it gently, inspecting the silky koi fish with a kind of cautious reverence. “...It’s a tie,” he said, after a beat.
“Not just a tie. A statement.”
Sanji paused, then let out a light chuckle. “It’s definitely saying something.”
You wiggled your eyebrows. “You hate it.”
“I love it,” he said quickly. Too quickly. “No one’s ever given me a tie before. I’ll wear it tomorrow.”
You blinked. “Wait, really?”
“Of course.” He smiled at you—warm, charming, and with just a hint of terror behind the eyes. “Merci, my dear.”
You were kind of joking. But now you were also kind of obsessed.
The next morning, Sanji wore the tie.
He actually wore it.
Full suit. Polished shoes. Orange koi fish flopping limply down his chest.
Zoro nearly fell overboard laughing. Usopp asked if it was cursed. Luffy tried to eat it. But Sanji—oh, bless his elegant little soul—kept his head high, his tie straight, and served breakfast with the air of a Michelin-star chef who had absolutely not lost a bet.
You were delighted.
He was doomed.
You gave him a second tie a week later.
This one was a standard black, but when pulled, it flipped up to reveal a tiny cartoon woman in a bikini winking suggestively. Sanji paled when he discovered this—after wearing it to serve tea to Robin and Nami.
He wore it for three days out of sheer politeness.
The third tie played “La Cucaracha” when touched. The fourth one glowed in the dark. The fifth? A neon green knitted monstrosity with googly eyes stitched on like some kind of haunted seaweed.
You were testing him now. You had to be.
And Sanji—poor, noble, increasingly sweaty Sanji—endured them all.
But something in his eye had started to twitch.
-
Sanji didn’t cry.
But he did sigh like a man who had seen war.
“This one sparkles,” he said faintly, holding up tie number six between two fingers like it might bite. “It’s—bedazzled.”
“Exactly,” you grinned. “It matches your sparkling personality, Sanji-kun~”
He blinked slowly. “I don’t sparkle.”
“You do in my heart.”
He paused. “...That’s very sweet,” he said, voice hollow. “Excuse me while I go make dinner and question everything I’ve ever known about fashion.”
The next time you docked on an island, you dragged Zoro along on your usual supply run. Not because you liked him (you didn’t—he was a menace), but because he owed you a favor and you wanted a pack mule.
You didn’t expect him to actually get into it.
“Oho,” Zoro said, plucking a tie from a dusty clearance bin like it was Excalibur. “This one’s got a cat riding a shark. That’s a power move.”
You gasped. “Oh my god. And look, this one’s got… is that a chili pepper? With sunglasses??”
“Hell yeah it is.”
Suddenly, you and Zoro were in the middle of the store, doubled over with laughter, holding up increasingly cursed neckwear like you were art collectors discovering lost masterpieces.
“What about this one?” Zoro asked, barely holding it together. “It’s a chicken. But with abs.”
“Sanji would hate that.”
“Then we’re buying it.”
It became a game. A secret mission. Operation: Drive Sanji Mad With Fashion.
The tie haul that day was devastating:
One with a holographic dancing skeleton.
One that said “HOT STUFF” in flaming Comic Sans.
One with googly eyes that rattled when he moved.
A skinny tie that looked like a strip of bacon.
You didn’t even try to hide your glee.
And the worst part? Sanji still wore them.
Maybe not with pride. Maybe not even with dignity. But with a kind of resigned, tragic elegance—as if he’d accepted this was his life now, a living shrine to the gods of bad taste.
“Y/N…” he said one afternoon, when you handed him a tie shaped like a squid.
“Uh-huh?”
He looked at you. You looked back, all innocence and sunshine.
He opened his mouth.
Closed it.
Sighed.
“…Merci,” he whispered, like it hurt.
Back on the Sunny, Zoro leaned on the railing, watching Sanji stir soup with his squid tie flapping obscenely against his chest.
“You think he’s gonna snap soon?” Zoro asked, sipping his drink.
You leaned beside him, smug. “I’m giving him three more ties. Maybe two if I find the one with the whoopee cushion.”
Zoro grinned. “Let me know when you go shopping again.”
The alliance had been forged. The chaos was escalating.
And Sanji?
Well, he was hanging on by a thread.
A very ugly thread.
--
The final tie was the ugliest thing you had ever seen. Which is exactly why you bought it.
It was fuzzy. It was fluorescent. It had two giant googly eyes, a felt tongue that dangled like an accusation, and a built-in squeaker that wheezed every time it moved.
Zoro saw it first.
He stared at it for a long moment, then simply muttered, “Oh, he’s gonna die.”
You nodded solemnly. “Or finally confess his sins.”
You presented it to Sanji after dinner, the rest of the crew scattered and full and blissfully unaware of the oncoming storm. You held the box like it was a precious heirloom.
“Sanji,” you beamed. “From me to you.”
He froze. You saw his soul briefly leave his body before he schooled his face into that familiar, worn-out smile.
“For me?” he said, voice soft like a dying man’s last words.
You nodded with dangerous excitement. “It squeaks.”
There was a long silence as he lifted the lid. His face didn’t change. Not at first. But you saw the exact moment his spirit cracked.
His eye twitched. His cigarette drooped. And then—very gently—he closed the lid.
“Y/N,” he said.
You blinked. “Yeah?”
“I love you.”
You froze. “Wait, what?”
“I love you,” he repeated, fast now, like he was running downhill with no brakes. “I love your smile and your laugh and the way you talk to my soup like it’s alive. I love your voice in the morning and how you hum when you’re bored and yes, even how you and the mosshead formed some unholy alliance to torture me with these godforsaken ties.”
You were completely stunned.
Sanji took a breath. “But if you give me one more tie that squeaks, glows, sings, or looks like it crawled out of a clown’s nightmare—I will burst into flames. And not in the charming, smoldering way. In the literal spontaneous combustion way.”
You opened your mouth. Then closed it. Then blinked. “...So you’re saying you do like them?”
Sanji stared at you.
You grinned. “You do!”
He groaned and buried his face in his hands. “Mon Dieu, please spare me.”
But you stepped closer and leaned in, voice soft now. “You could’ve told me from the start, you know.”
“I didn’t want to hurt your feelings.”
“You’ve worn a tie that said ‘Grill Me Daddy.’ I think we're past shame.”
That got a reluctant laugh from him.
You reached into your bag and pulled out one last item—not a tie this time, but a sleek, dark blue one with a subtle embroidered pattern. Tasteful. Elegant. Something that actually matched his wardrobe.
He blinked. “Wait… this one’s not hideous.”
You shrugged. “Well, I did get you like eleven gag ties already. Thought you earned one nice one.”
Sanji looked at you like you’d just handed him the moon. “...Thank you,” he said quietly.
You smiled. “You’re welcome, Mr. Grill Me Daddy.”
He groaned again—but this time, when he tugged you in for a hug, he didn’t let go.

Monster trio rejecting you Pt.2
The long awaited part 2! I absolutely loved writing Zoros part🙏
Warnings: angst, a bit of fluff
———-
Luffy
Surprisingly it wasn’t as hard to get over him because you knew he was just a knuckle head like that
On your new adventures you met new people, one specifically caught your eye.
Ace.
Ace was caring, funny, charming and very welcoming to be around. You both shared contacts on a transponder snail and talked 24/7, 365. Everyone knew the bond you had and left it alone, except luffy. He always saw you speaking on the snail but never knew who was on the other side.
The crew made a stop to a new island but everyone was waiting for you, who was talking on the transponder snail in your room.
“Finally a new adventure!! Lets go-!”
“LUFFY! Wait we cant leave without y/n!! This island is larger than anything we’ve ever seen before and ANYONE can get lost anytime!!” Said chopper
Luffy sighed in annoyance and stomped off to your room and busted in
“Y/N!! LETS GO ALREADY!!” He yells with his chest
You jump in fear and quickly whisper to the other side of the snail “i gotta go!” And hung up.
“Who are you always talking to on that thing anyway?”
You sigh in defeat and answer “Ace, i talk to ace.”
“Ace? Huh? Why?”
“Well, I think he’s pretty cool and i like him.”
“I thought you liked me?”
“What?”
“You cant like-like me and like-like Ace? I thought we were just starting to get closer?”
You have a dumbfounded look on your face and you laugh at the misunderstanding. Maybe he understood after all, but i wonder why he would hide it.”
———
Sanji
Of course it was ALOT more difficult to get over him. You were devastated at how unreasonable he was, it was ridiculous.
So you decided to just not respond often when Sanji would speak to you, it was pointless anyway. He was still trying to pick up a conversation even after all that.
Sanji had a really bad dream one night, it was him re-experiencing the events at Sabaody, you werent there during that time but he dreamt that you were.
He woke up inna horrible cold sweat and immediately walked to the front of the ship, he needed some air. However when he walked out to see his crew doing there normal shenanigans, something was off.
He looks over at you to see you chatting, with brook?? How come your more comfortable around brook than him? He was an even bigger pervert than him.
“Y/n, may i see your pant-.” You swat brook on the side of his arm and slightly yell/giggle “no way brook!”
You clear your throat and begin to say “Thank you brook for helping me get over Sanji though, its really nice to have someone to talk to when no one else is around.” You leaned in and gave brook a deep hug.
“YOHOHOHOHO! Y/n it is a pleasure!! You flatter me, im blushing!! Although i am a skeleton so i cant really blush!! Yohoho!”
He hugs back and swings you around and you both laugh in glee. Sanji saw all of this and he thought, what did he even do wrong.
————
Zoro
In this you ARE included in the Sabaody Arc
It was VERY difficult to get over Zoro especially since he would never talk to you anymore. Nami being the jerk she was partnered you and Zoro together to walk around. She said it was for the “bonding experience”
She kept trying to bring back the spark that you and Zoro had but it will never work anymore.
You heard that day there was going to be an auction so you left to go check it out, you found the auction house and decided to take a seat not paying attention to your surroundings.
“X’cuse me?” Said a man next to you. It startled you and you jump. turning your head to look at him.
“That seat isn’t for you.”
His voice was DEEP.
“Oh- ill move- sorry.” A bear in a seat behind him leans over and says. “Come on boss lets let her stay! Shes really pretty!”
“Bepo-.” “Pleaseee!! Come on you need more allies than foes in this place anyway!”
The man grunts, allowing you to sit down again once more. “Law. Trafalgar D. Law.”
“Y/n L/n.”
“Nice to meet’cha Y/N!”
“You’re a straw-hat aren’t you? Hmh. What a tease your Captain isnt first here.”
You chuckle a bit scared at the power law might consist..
Zoro searches nearly the whole place for you, and finally lands at the auction house, he busts in and frantically looks around. He sees you sitting with a man, he cant see his face but he sure can see yours. And your enjoying yourself, this sets something off in him.
Him being your ex-best-friend and all, Hes only used to seeing him make you laugh, but this. This is so different and weird, why does he care?

Date? | Zoro x Reader
Summary: Zoro asked you out on a date. (You thought it was just an errand run at the market)  Tags: fluff, pre-relationship, first date(?), GN but written with F!Reader in mind, no use of y/n
a/n: happy birthday zoro!! this is not a birthday-centric fic, just wanted to write something fluffy for the birthday boy :)
Tumblr media
You sat on one of the swings on the main deck of the Thousand Sunny, gently swaying as you waited for Zoro. As the minutes ticked by, you started impatiently glancing at the door to the boys’ room.
It was taking Zoro unexpectedly long to get ready today when he usually only needed less than five minutes to throw on whatever non-wrinkled, semi-clean clothes he could find strewn around beneath his hammock.
“Want to go to the market with me today? Just us two?” was what Zoro asked you this morning. Of course, you said yes without a second thought. It wasn’t unusual for you to accompany Zoro on errand runs whenever you docked at a new island – it seemed the crew had appointed you as his (un)official chaperone, tasked with ensuring the directionally challenged swordsman could find his way back to the ship at the end of the day. With that being said, you couldn’t say that you didn’t enjoy every single second you got to be alone with your green-haired crewmate.
The Sunny was currently docked at a small, but lively harbor town. Nami already scoped out the area this morning, and she reported that, thankfully, there were no marine bases here, so the crew could spend the next three days in peace while waiting for the log pose to set.
Some muffled bickering came from inside the boys’ room and you were straining your ears to hear what they were saying when the door suddenly swung open. Zoro was quickly shoved out of the room by a pair of hands you recognized as Usopp’s, and a telltale flash of blonde hair, before the door slammed shut, told you that the cook was also in on… whatever this was.
You looked at the man in front of you, his green hair still slightly damp from a bath (he took a bath?) but combed neatly. He was wearing a black, slightly oversized, short-sleeved shirt – unbuttoned over a white tank top – paired with some light blue jeans.
You could only gape in awe, genuinely taken aback at the sight of him actually dressing up for once, but at your silence, Zoro stiffened and did a one-eighty, reaching for the doorknob, “I’m gonna go change.”
You touched his arm lightly to stop him, “No, don’t.”
He turned to face you again, and you placed your hand on his shoulder as you admitted, “You look really great. It suits you.”
The tips of Zoro’s ears turned red at your compliment. A breeze suddenly picked up, bringing about faint traces of lemon and eucalyptus… Was he wearing cologne?
You couldn’t help but lean towards him, inching your nose closer to his neck to catch another whiff of the lovely aroma. As if reading your thoughts, Zoro said, “Usopp sprayed it on me before I could get away.”
Ah, so that’s why the scent was familiar. You’ve smelled it on the sniper a few times before, but on Zoro, the cologne smelled slightly different, tinged with a scent that was so uniquely him.
“Well, you smell fantastic.” You reassured him. “Shall we go?”
The walk to the market was brief, with you and Zoro strolling side-by-side in companionable silence. As the hustle and bustle of the market came within sight, you nudged him and asked, “What did you need from the market, by the way?”
“I didn’t really need anything in particular,” He thought for a bit, “But I guess I’m running low on sword polish.”
After Zoro made a quick purchase at the arms shop, you two wandered around the market with no directions in mind, stopping at whichever stall caught your eye.
An old lady sat behind one, carefully weaving a bracelet out of thin, colorful threads. Her table was filled with more of her creations, each of them with unique patterns and color combinations. You picked one that you thought was the prettiest, admiring the intricate details of the different shades of green mingling to create a mesmerizing design. You checked the price tag and put it back down. As much as you wanted it, you really needed to restrain yourself. You told yourself you didn’t need another accessory – not when you just purchased a pricey silver necklace at the last island.
A few stalls down was a table laden with vials and bottles of all sizes, and you excitedly dragged Zoro by the sleeve towards it.
“Welcome, welcome!” The owner of the kiosk greeted you, “We have fragrances of every kind here – even imported oils from Alabasta! Do you have any particular scent you prefer?”
“Oh, it’s not for me!” You smiled before jerking your thumb at your companion, “I want to find something for him.”
“Well, take a look around.” He gestured to the samples, “I’m sure we can find something suitable for your boyfriend.”
You felt heat rush to your cheeks as you frantically waved your hand, while Zoro was similarly flustered.
“He’s not–”
“We’re not–, I mean–”
The two of you gave up explaining as the man profusely apologized for making inappropriate assumptions. After you assured him that it was fine, he began putting drops of the different fragrant oils on small pieces of paper and handed them to you. You sniffed each of them, bringing the ones you found interesting up to Zoro’s nose. All of the scents were alluring in their own ways, but one in particular stood out to you. It opened with a fresh burst of bergamot, layered with a spicy rush of cardamom and a hint of green tea.
“How’s this?” You offered the paper to Zoro.
He took a cautious sniff, and his eyebrow raised ever so slightly. Zoro was never really into colognes or perfumes, but he was surprised at how much he actually liked the scent you picked for him.
He nodded and you beamed, turning towards the merchant, “We’ll take this one!”
As the man filled a vial with the fragrant oil, you reached into your pocket for some Berries, but Zoro’s hand on your wrist stopped you, “You don’t have to–“
“I know.” You cut him off, “But I want to.”
You grinned at him, “You can wear it the next time we hang out, so you don’t have to borrow Usopp’s.”
A smile slowly crept up Zoro’s lips, “Thanks.”
The merchant was wrapping up the glass vial when Zoro tapped you on the shoulder, “Hey, I need to go to the restroom. Wait here for a minute.”
Before you could stop him, he was gone.
Your heart dropped. If there was one rule to going anywhere with Zoro, it was to never let him out of your sight.
You quickly handed some coins to the merchant and began searching in the direction that Zoro went, standing on your tiptoes to look over the crowd in hopes of catching sight of that familiar green. You were just starting to descend into a panic when a hand suddenly grabbed yours.
“I’m right here,” Zoro said softly into your ear.
You smacked him lightly on the chest, “Don’t run off like that again! You scared me!”
“Sorry,” He grinned, before shrugging and saying nonchalantly, “But you know what, I don’t know how but I could always find my way back if it’s to you.”
You wondered if he knew the effect he had on you.
Your grip on his hand tightened just a little bit. You knew he was just holding your hand so you wouldn’t lose each other in this crowded market, but you couldn’t prevent your pulse from quickening at the feeling of his strong hand in yours. It certainly didn’t help that he didn’t let go even after you left the market and the crowd behind you.
You caught a glimpse of a massive flower field at the edge of town and tugged Zoro’s hand to grab his attention, “Nami heard that field’s a popular picnic spot for the locals. Sure looks pretty, doesn’t it?”
“Wanna check it out?”
You looked at the field longingly before shaking your head, “It’s getting late, maybe tomorrow. We should probably head back to the ship for dinner soon.”
“Actually,” Zoro said, “I was thinking we could try out one of those restaurants in town, if you’re up for it?”
You were surprised at Zoro’s suggestion – he was normally the type to return to the ship as early as possible and take a good, long nap after a day out – but you agreed to it nonetheless. When else would you get a chance to dine with your swordsman, just the two of you?
The restaurant Zoro took you to was a quaint place, but the food they served was beyond your expectations. Zoro was unusually talkative throughout dinner, and you couldn’t say that you didn’t adore this side of him. You two laughed and chatted through bites of steaks and sips of beer, and then dinner was over before you realized, far sooner than you would’ve liked.
The walk back to the ship was also shorter than you remembered. As you walked beside Zoro, fingers brushing in featherlight touches, you had to resist the temptation of linking your fingers with his. The night was getting chillier and you would give anything to feel his warm hand in yours again, but you know you shouldn’t. This was just a friendly outing anyway – you wouldn’t want him to think that you got the wrong idea, or worse, what if he rejected your advances?
Zoro walked you all the way to the door of your quarters, “Did you have fun today?”
“I did.” You smiled up at him, “Best day I had in a while, to be honest.”
All of a sudden, Zoro took your wrist and slipped something onto it, “A return gift. For the perfume oil you bought me.”
Your heart skipped a beat when you noticed that it was the green woven bracelet that you admired earlier. He must’ve gotten it when you were briefly separated at the market.
“Oh, Zoro,” You leaped toward him, bringing your arms around his neck and enveloping him in a big hug, “Thank you!”
Zoro’s arms tentatively wrapped around your waist and you melted into his embrace. You leaned back and brought your wrist with the bracelet to beside his head, giggling as you noted, “It matches your hair.”
Zoro’s expression was unreadable as he gazed at you, and then, without warning, he leaned forward and planted a soft kiss on your cheek. You froze at the sudden act, your smile dropping in shock. Your heart was pounding faster than ever, and your fingers unconsciously went to the spot where you could still feel the touch of his chapped lips.
Zoro mistook your surprised reaction as rejection and immediately dropped his arms from your waist, stepping backward as he brought his palm to his forehead, “Sorry, fuck, I shouldn’t have taken that dumb cook’s advice.”
“Huh?” You voiced, still in a daze and not understanding a bit of what he was saying, “What advice? What’s Sanji got to do with this?”
He hesitated, before admitting in a small voice, “He said a kiss on the cheek would be okay for a first date. If it went well.”
“D-date?” You asked in confusion, “Are you telling me today was a date?”
Zoro ran his hand through his hair in frustration, “Well, what the hell did you think it was then?”
“I thought it was just one of our usual errand runs!” You stammered out, before jabbing your pointer finger on his chest accusingly, “You didn’t say it was a date!”
After belatedly realizing that he, in fact, did not, Zoro flushed and rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly, “Uh, I did say it would only be the two of us?”
You blinked, still processing his words and this absurd miscommunication.
“You know what, forget it.” Zoro's face was bright red as he began walking away from you in the direction of the crow’s nest, “Good night.”
“No, wait. Zoro.” You caught him by his hand, before placing yourself in front of him. “It was a really nice day.”
He refused to look at you, but you placed your hand on his chin, guiding his eyes to yours, “But if you wanted to ask me on a date, maybe you could’ve been a little more… explicit?”
You laughed in embarrassment as you gestured at your casual t-shirt and shorts, “Gosh, look at me! I would’ve dressed up better!”
“You look great no matter what you wear.”
You flushed at his sincere compliment, before taking his hands in each of yours, “I’d love to go on a date with you again, you know.”
You squeezed his hands, “Preferably one where I knew it was a date?”
He was silent for a few seconds, before muttering, “Tomorrow then.”
“Tomorrow what, Zoro?” You teased, “Use your words.”
Zoro took a deep breath, looking you right in the eyes, “Would you like to go on a date with me tomorrow? We can have a picnic at the flower fields. You wanted to go there, right?”
“It’s a date.” You smiled, before giving him a peck on the cheek, “Good night, Zoro. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
You entered your room, quickly shutting the door as your legs gave out under you. You sat stunned on the floor, hand on your chest to dampen the drumming of your heart, cheeks hurting from the wide grin you were sporting.
You knew you probably wouldn’t sleep a wink tonight, too filled with excitement for what tomorrow would bring.

Yandere!OP men thinking their darling escaped
Characters: Mihawk, Shanks, Luffy
A/N: since you didn't especify the characters, i did the ones from the other one.

Dracule Mihawk

Once he returned to the castle and there was no welcoming, he registered all the castle from the top to bottom.
He started to become anxious and really angry, at himself mostly to leave you alone that much time.
He should have thought that if he left you alone much time, then you would try to escape.
He even went to the warrior monkeys and started a fight with them, just in case they knew something about you.
Then you came back, with a present in your hands and a few groceries.
"Where have you been?" his voice is ussually calm and this was the first time he sounded angry.
"I bought you this." you showed him.
His rage and nervousness dropped instantly, you cared about him, how would you leave him alone when you are so attentive even when he leaves you alone.
He said sorry for his behaviour and went with you to the kitchen to open the gift.
Akagami Shanks
Tumblr media
When the crew got to an island, you all decided to stay at a motel.
Once Shanks woke up and you weren't by his side, he started yelling at his subordinates to start looking for you.
Half an hour left and he was ready to burn the town and start interrogating people with violence.
Even the marines where scared to see a yonkou searching with that effort on the village, breaking into locals, vandalizing the streets, infunding fear into people.
Then you went back to the town, you yelled Shanks name in rage.
"What do you think you're doing?"
"What do YOU think you've done?" you showed him the package with all the alcohol you bought.
"The village next to this is known for his liquor, i know you would like it so i woke up early to get an annual restock as a surprise... asshole."
"Don't tell me asshole, i thought you left," he yelled but recomposed, "sorry, thanks for the detail, i will compensate you and i am sure the boys will love it."
"Compensate the people of this village, maybe you should share the alcohol with them."
Luffy
Tumblr media
The ship was tied up to port and your crewmates were doing shopping, you decided to head to the city, sure you will be back after.
When he came back and didn't saw you on the deck welcoming him, he made all the crew search for you.
Then, at no sign of your pressence on the ship, he left out a big scream. (You even heard it on the other side of the town)
You came back to the ship with the escenary of Luffy being held by Sanji and Zoro, with blank eyes blinded by rage and anxiety, Nami and Robin trying ot calm him down, Chopper trying to pucture him some sedatives.
"Where is (Y/N)!!! THey can't be gone, they would never abandon me, right? How could them?!!! Where is...."
His eyes spotted you from the other side of the deck and he suddently became silent.
You put the bag with the gift on the ground and hugged him, now that Zoro and Sanji left him.
"I'm sorry, i thought i could do it before you guys came back, if i knew it would have this effect on you i wouldn't have..."
"I tought you left me."
"i would never, and of course not after this, sorry." you gave him the bag, "this was what i bought."
"I don't care about the gift, i am now good that i know you won't left again."

Roronoa Zoro
His heart suddenly beats more rapidly whenever he sees you smiling, laughing, or even doing the most random thing. On top of that, Sanji's overly complimentary remarks towards you make him want to reach for his swords. No, this can't be. He's stared death down a thousand times, cut through countless enemies. Yet, this new feeling blooming for you – it's terrifying.
Zoro coming to terms with his feelings for you? Buckle up, because it's going to be a hilarious journey. Denial will be his middle name for a while, trust me. This dense swordsman will be in for a wild ride before he finally connects the dots.
Thanks to Nami's interrogation skills (and a little sake), the whole crew knows Zoro has a thing for you. Now, expect endless teasing from Luffy and Usopp, who'll probably try to spill the beans before a certain mosshead gives them his best glare.
Zoro finally figuring out his feelings for you? Great! Now comes the real test: talking to you about them. Because let's be honest, under that tough-guy act, he is probably a nervous wreck, sweating bullets at the thought of rejection.
Zoro's not exactly the Romeo type. So expect a confession that's straightforward, maybe a bit awkward – but heartfelt nonetheless. If you feel the same, a weight will lift from his shoulders. But if not, he'll respect your decision and try to keep things smooth between you.
Tumblr media
Dracule Mihawk
Don't be fooled by Mihawk's stoic facade – because he is quite aware of his feelings for you. Years have honed his instincts, and unlike his pupil, he has no time (and he is too old) for childish denial. His emotions are clear, even if unspoken.
That man has a very calculating mind. He'll dissect every interaction, every glance, searching for a sign that you love him as mush as he loves you. Despite his solitary nature, his mind might already be constructing a future by your side – a future dependent on your response.
Mihawk is probably one of the few men in One Piece who are very romantic (Oda told me so). His brand of romance is subtle yet charming. Imagine leisurely strolls through his gardens or watching the sunset with a glass of wine by his side. A subtle offer of his arm, a hint of a blush from you – that might be all the encouragement he needs to take things a step further.
Once confident your feelings mirror his own, Mihawk will approach things in an (VERY) old-fashioned way. Be prepared for a carefully crafted dinner invitation, where he can formally request the honor of courting you. His pride lies in being a gentleman, and rushing into things is simply not his style. He prefers to court you slowly and respectfully, allowing your relationship to develop naturally.
After a series of thoughtful dates, Mihawk will finally take the next step and ask you to be his partner (Perona and Zoro might have placed a bet on the timeline, of course). Like everything he does, Mihawk will approach this new chapter with utmost seriousness. Your well-being will always be his top priority.
Tumblr media
Portgas D. Ace
Ace isn't the denial type. The ache when you're gone, the quiet competition with Marco and Izo for your laughter – these are the clues that tip him off. Ace falling for you? It's written all over his flustered face. He stutters and turns red like a tomato when speaking to you unexpectedly.
The entire crew is a nuisance and teases him constantly about his love for you. They have grilled him mercilessly – “When will you confess?” they ask, convinced you feel the same.
Denial ? Once again, not Ace's style. But baring his heart, admitting his love for you ? That's a terrifying vulnerability he fears more than anything. On top of that, I believe he is also afraid of losing your friendship by making things awkward if you don't feel the same about him.
Thankfully, Marco, ever the voice of reason, is there to guide this lovestruck dummy. And honestly, this old man is tired of watching you two pining from afar. A stern talk from Marco might be just what Ace needs to understand that silence could lead to a missed opportunity for a great relationship.
Ace's confession? A masterpiece in the making, at least in his head. Daily mirror pep talks and a meticulously planned romantic gesture – that's how he plans to declare his love. Just imagine the blushing, the stammering, the potential for minor explosions (caused by Ace's nervousness, of course).
Dinner over, Ace reaches for something hidden in his pocket. His nervousness is palpable, a sheen of sweat forming on his brow. But then, with a determined glint in his eye, he throws caution (and the letter) to the wind, ready to confess his true feelings directly from the heart.

Roronoa Zoro:
The crew is gathered at a lively tavern, drinks flowing, laughter echoing off the wooden walls. You’re seated next to Zoro, who, as usual, seems more focused on his drink than the conversation. His arm is draped casually along the back of the bench, and at some point, probably without realizing it, his fingers start lightly tracing circles on your shoulder.
It’s absentminded, subconscious, but you notice.
And so does everyone else.
You don’t say anything at first, just letting yourself enjoy the rare show of affection. Zoro isn’t exactly the touchy type, so the feeling of his rough, calloused fingers against your skin is something to savor. You lean into him just a little, and his grip unconsciously tightens.
Then, Sanji snickers “Didn’t take you for the clingy type, Marimo.”
Zoro’s fingers stops instantly.
You can practically hear the gears turning in his head as he replays the last few minutes, piecing together what just happened. His arm stiffens, and when you glance up, you find his face frozen in mild horror, like his own body has just betrayed him.
“What the hell are you talking about?” His voice comes out a little too sharp, too defensive, which only makes Sanji smirk wider.
“Oh, nothing” The cook takes a drag of his cigarette “It’s just cute, that's all. Didn’t think you’d be the type to get all touchy in public.”
Zoro yanks his arm back so fast you almost fall sideways “I wasn’t!” He groans, rubbing his face like he can physically scrub the moment from existence “It wasn’t on purpose.”
You stifle a laugh, reaching up to pat his arm “Relax, Zoro. It’s fine.”
He glares at you, but there’s a bit of redness creeping up his neck “I don’t do that stuff in public.”
Sanji hums, clearly enjoying this way too much “Mhm. Sure. Just keep telling yourself that.”
Zoro grumbles something under his breath, clearly ready to die on this hill. But even as he crosses his arms and scowls at his drink, his knee remains pressed against yours under the table.
Accidental or not, you’ll take what you can get.
Tumblr media
Vinsmoke Sanji:
The sun is setting over the Sunny, casting golden hues across the deck. Dinner is long over, but most of the crew lingers, full and satisfied. You sit beside Sanji near the railing, listening to the breeze and the distant laughter of the others. He’s in a good mood, smiling as he talks to you about a new dessert he’s planning, something with caramel and sea salt, he says, because “a contrast of flavors makes things more exciting, mon amour.”
You roll your eyes at the nickname but don’t bother fighting it. Sanji flirts like he breathes, and by now, you’ve just learned to go along with it.
Then, it happens.
You’re mid-sip of your drink when Sanji, without thinking, reaches out and tucks a loose strand of hair behind your ear.
It’s so natural, so smooth, that it takes you a second to process what just happened. The conversation around you continues, but you feel frozen, heat creeping up your neck.
Sanji, of course, remains utterly unaware. He keeps talking like nothing’s happened, his fingers lingering near your ear for just a moment before pulling away. It wasn’t even a grand gesture, just an absentminded, casual thing. But the way it makes your heart stutter? Absolutely unfair.
Unfortunately, someone does notice.
“Oi, Sanji,” Usopp teases, leaning over the table with a shit-eating grin “Didn’t know you were already at the ‘tucking their hair back like a romance novel protagonist’ stage.”
Sanji blinks “Hah?”
Nami chuckles “That was smooth, even for you.”
Sanji frowns, clearly replaying the last few seconds in his head. His hand twitches, as if only now realizing what it just did. He looks at you, at your slightly wide eyes, at the way you’re still holding your drink midair like an idiot, and then… it hits him.
“Oh—!” His face erupts into red “I—I wasn’t—! That was—!”
He immediately buries his face in his hands, groaning “Shit… I didn’t even notice I—!”
“You touched their hair, Sanji,” Usopp deadpans, grinning. “That’s practically a confession.”
Sanji sputters, waving his arms dramatically “It’s not like that! I— I just—” He stops, then sighs, rubbing his temples. “Mon dieu…”
You watch him, amused. The smooth-talking, ever-flirty Sanji, reduced to a blushing mess over one small gesture.
You smile. Maybe you didn’t mind it so much after all.

Trafalgar D. Water Law:
Trafalgar Law doesn't do public displays of affection. The man acts like love is a classified disease, and he’s the only doctor qualified to handle it.
Which is why the Heart Pirates are absolutely living for this moment.
It starts small, Bepo makes an offhand comment about how you and Law seem weirdly close today. And by that, he means Law has casually draped an arm around your waist while reading his book.
Then it escalates.
Law, your usually grumpy, no-nonsense captain, absentmindedly feeds you a bite of his food at dinner. Like it’s nothing. Like this is normal.
The crew goes silent.
Then whispers.
Then snickering.
Shachi elbows Penguin “Did you see that?”
“I felt that” Penguin whispers back, eyes wide.
“Are we being punked?” Ikkaku mutters “Is this a medical experiment or what?”
Meanwhile, Law, completely oblivious, keeps eating... until he notices just how unnaturally quiet everyone has gotten. He glances up, fork mid-air, only to be met with a table full of smug grins and barely contained laughter.
“…What?” he asks, narrowing his eyes.
Bepo smiles innocently “Nothing, Captain. Please, continue being adorable.”
Law blinks. Then slowly turns to you, as if just now realizing what he’s done.
You, being the absolute menace that you are, grin and open your mouth again, waiting for another bite.
A muscle in his jaw twitches.
“You’re enjoying this” he mutters.
“Oh, immensely.”
Law exhales through his nose, looking between the crew and you. For a second, it seems like he’ll retreat, go full grumpy captain mode,
but instead, he smirks, leans in, and presses a quick kiss to your cheek.
The chaos that erupts is instant.
Shachi falls out of his chair. Penguin screams. Bepo claps. Ikkaku nearly chokes on her drink.
Law, of course, acts like nothing happened and goes right back to eating.
But the red tips of his ears? Oh yeah. That’s a win.

Portgas D. Ace:
The bonfire crackles, casting a golden glow over the Whitebeard Pirates as laughter and conversation fill the night air. You’re sitting next to Ace, comfortably close, the warmth of the fire mingling with the heat radiating off his skin.
He’s relaxed, grinning as he chats with Marco, one arm casually slung over the back of the log where you're sitting. It's nothing unusual... Ace has always been a little touchy without thinking much of it. But at some point, his fingers start absentmindedly playing with the ends of your hair, twirling and tugging in slow, lazy motions.
You blink.
The conversation continues like nothing’s happening, and Ace doesn’t seem to notice what he’s doing. It’s almost endearing, the way he’s so comfortable, so unaware, until Thatch smirks over his tankard and loudly clears his throat.
“Well, well” Thatch drawls, tapping his mug against Marco’s “Didn’t realize we were in the middle of a romantic drama. Should we leave you two alone?”
Ace freezes mid-twist of your hair.
His fingers tighten ever so slightly before he slowly lets the strand slip from his grip. The realization crashes down on him in real-time, his freckles disappearing under the deepening red of his face.
“Huh?” His voice cracks slightly “I...That’s not...”
Marco chuckles, sipping his drink “You’re adorable when you’re oblivious, yoi.”
Ace immediately throws a handful of sand in his direction, scowling. “Shut up!” His voice is a little too high-pitched to be threatening “I wasn’t—! It wasn’t on purpose!”
“Sure” Thatch grins, wiggling his eyebrows “Accidental flirting. A classic.”
Ace groans into his hands, looking very much like he wants the ground to swallow him whole. You, on the other hand, are biting back a laugh as you lean in slightly.
“Didn’t know you liked playing with my hair” you tease, just loud enough for him to hear.
His head snaps to you, wide-eyed, before he grumbles something incoherent under his breath. You’re pretty sure you catch the words never living this down.
Still, despite his embarrassment, he doesn’t move away, his warmth lingers beside you, a silent contradiction to his flustered protests.
Tumblr media
Eustass Kid:
The atmosphere in the tavern is loud and chaotic, just the way the Kid Pirates like it. The crew is drinking, shouting, and causing their usual brand of mayhem while you sit beside Kid, with your drink. He’s in a rare good mood tonight, smirking as he argues with Killer over some pointless bet.
You’re just relaxing, letting the warmth of the room settle into your bones, when you feel it... Kid’s hand resting on your thigh.
Not just resting. His fingers drum absently against your skin, his grip solid, like it belongs there.
Your brain short-circuits for a second. He’s not the type for public affection. Hell, he barely acknowledges feelings exist, so the fact that he’s touching you like this, so casually, is… unexpected.
And the worst part? He doesn’t seem to realize he’s doing it.
You glance down, then back up at him. He’s still engaged in his conversation with Killer, completely unaware of the way his thumb is now slowly tracing circles against your leg.
It’s fine. It’s totally fine. You can just pretend like this isn’t affecting you...
"Oi, Kid" Heat suddenly snickers from across the table, eyes gleaming with mischief "y/n is so red that it like they're about to explode. Didn’t know you were the handsy type."
Kid pauses mid-sentence "Huh?"
He follows Heat’s gaze, straight to where his hand is resting on you. His fingers twitch. You feel the exact moment his brain catches up with his body, the slow realization creeping onto his face.
The entire table is watching now, grinning like they’ve just witnessed something hilarious.
"Shit," Kid mutters, yanking his hand away like he’s been burned. His face twists into a scowl, and his cheeks—just barely—tinge red "I wasn’t—!" His voice raises, defensive. "It was just—!"
Killer snorts "Yeah, sure. Just absentmindedly groping them in the middle of a crowded tavern. Totally normal."
The crew erupts into laughter. Kid growls, kicking Heat’s chair out from under him, sending the man crashing to the floor "Shut the hell up!"
You bite your lip, fighting back a grin.
Even as he huffs and glares at his drink, grumbling about stupid bastards and their stupid comments, his knee remains firmly pressed against yours under the table.
Accidental or not, he’s not moving away.
And neither are you.

Chapter Two - Acceptance
“Are you sure you don’t mind me borrowing some of your clothes, Nami?”
Glancing up from the Grand Line map she’d been studying, Nami just raises a brow down at you. “I’d rather you borrow my clothes then wear those atrocious clothes that clown had you in,” she shakes her head, almost shuddering at the memory. The sight pulls a small smile to your lips. “Seriously, he had no fashion sense.”
You let out a small laugh. “They were pretty ugly, weren’t they?” You grin up at her, and she pauses, as if shocked you were smiling so openly. You don’t mind. You realize you did look pretty miserable that time they’d set you free, extremely self-pitying too. You still had your self-doubts, of course, but Luffy’s excitement at you joining them was pretty reassuring and it was hard not to appreciate how freeing the whole experience had been.
There was still the whole issue that Luffy seemed to be the only one convinced that you were in fact a pirate crew. Nami and Zoro seemed insistent on denying that, repeatedly telling him they were not a crew when he’d tried explaining it to you. Nami said she was only with the two because she had a shared interest in the Grand Line map. When you asked Zoro, he’d just shrugged, saying he was seeing where it took him. You’d snickered silently to yourself at that, thinking to yourself that the both of them just weren’t ready to admit that they were in fact a part of Luffy’s crew and probably liked that fact.
But you’d let them lie about it for now.
As for you, you nodded at Luffy when he explained how the goal was to find the One Piece and for him to become the Pirate King. In response, you’d shrugged and said; “Sure, Captain. Sounds like a plan.”
His eyes had practically sparkled at that while Zoro and Nami instantly groaned in response, berating you for enticing Luffy. You’d only laughed, saying you didn’t mind calling him Captain and being in his crew because there was nowhere else for you to go.
You’d been a captive of Buggy’s for years. Forced to be a part of his crew and do his bidding day in and day out. There really was nowhere else for you to go or call home. You’d suffered scars and injuries that would never leave, both mentally and physically. But Luffy, Zoro and Nami seemed to think nothing of your doubts, especially your eye. Despite his initial assurance, you felt extra assured by the fact that you had your eyepatch back and no one was going to be forcing you to take it off to make a mockery of you again.
Those days were gone.
With a wistful sigh, you turn, moving to the edge of the boat and breathing in the air. You never enjoyed being on Buggy’s boat but that hadn’t been because you didn’t enjoy being out on sea, but rather because it had been Buggy’s boat in the first place.
You are unaware of Nami’s eyes following you until she lets out a rather undignified snort.
“More than ugly,” she rolls her eyes as you turn back to glance at her. “More like atrocious. We should burn them when we get the chance.”
You let out a chuckle. “You think? I’d sure like to get rid of the memory of them.”
Nami’s lips part to respond, but before she can, she’s cut off by Luffy;
“Nami! Y/N!”
Rolling her eyes, Nami shifts her attention in front of you as you spin around to face Luffy. “What?”
Grabbing the large sheet of fabric he’d been fiddling with for the past hour or so, he stretches it wide in front of him, blocking what you’re sure is a beaming smile, and calls out; “it’s ready!”
Lips parting, you tilt your head, trying to get a good look at the lopsided skull.
“And what is it?”
Lowering the fabric so his face pokes up over it, Luffy grins; “our Jolly Roger. Every pirate crew has to have one. And now we do!”
“We’re not a crew,” Nami huffs, “and you are not hanging that on my boat.” With that, she turns back to the map.
Luffy blinks at her.
Stepping forward, you smile gently at Luffy; “it’s a little lopsided too, no?”
Peeking over the top, Luffy raises a brow. “I think it’s perfect.”
You bite your lip, holding back your laugh just as the door squeaks open behind him. Glancing over Luffy’s shoulder, you meet Zoro’s gaze.
“Zoro!” Luffy wastes no time spinning to face his friend, “Zoro, check it out.”
Pausing in the door, Zoro lets his eyes drag across it for a moment before meeting Luffy’s gaze, expression never changing.
“That’s unique.”
“It’s kind of cute in a way.” You offer, feeling a bit bad for Luffy who clearly had worked hard on it. “It has its own charm.”
Zoro just rolls his eyes at you. “It’s definitely not going to scare any other pirates.”
Turning back to Luffy’s jolly roger, he turns to you expectantly. As you let your eyes drift across it again, you have to admit, it’s more adorable than frightening. With a grimace, you offer him a pitying smile.
“Nami,” Zoro calls, leaning against the edge of the boat. “I think the toilet’s busted.”
Peering at him behind her glasses, Nami blinks, “we don’t have a toilet.”
There’s a pause, before Zoro offers a short; “oh.” Turning back towards the door, he shrugs. “Well, then something back there’s leaking.”
“What?”
Not hesitating a second more, she hops off the boxes she’d been sitting on, storming past the three of you and slamming the door shut behind her.
Luffy waits one second before he says; “where should I hang it?”
“Uh, Luffy,” you call, “I don’t think Nami will…”
He ignores you, eyes snapping round to find the best place.
“It’s best to let him do what he wants,” Zoro calls from behind you, your head turning round to glance at him. He’s crossed his arms over his chest again, leaning nonchalantly back. “And not get involved.”
“Is that what you do?” You ask, raising a brow. “Choose not to get involved?”
Zoro just stares at you. “Not if I don’t have to,” he answers, as if that’s the obvious answer.
Something told you that wasn’t the whole truth.
Before you can respond, however, Nami comes back out.
“We’re taking in water. What did you do?” She accuses Zoro.
Zoro leans towards her; “I didn’t do anything.”
Eyes flickering between the both of them, feeling the tension rising, your stomach twists uncomfortably.
“Guys, maybe we should—”
“The way you’re clanging those swords around, you must’ve broken something,” she scoffs.
Zoro snorts. “If you’re such a good thief, maybe you should’ve stolen a better boat.”
“Guys, guys, guys,” Luffy calls, successfully cutting their argument off. You let out a breath of relief at that, grateful they at least chose to listen to Luffy. “Okay, crew meeting.”
On cue, both of them huff; “not a crew!”
You offer a nervous smile.
Unphased as usual, Luffy turns to the three of you. “We're gonna need a better ship to make it to the Grand Line. A real pirate ship.” Then, pausing for dramatic effect, he smirks; “worthy of the Straw Hat crew.”
“Wait,” Nami calls, “Straw Hat crew? Really?”
“Yeah,” Luffy nods, “I thought it had a nice ring to it.”
“‘Demon’ has a nice ring to it,” Zoro scoffs. “Headgear? Not scary.”
“Well,” you speak up, meeting Zoro’s eyes before turning to Luffy. “I like it. It’s unique.”
Nami rolls her eyes, “do you have to keep encouraging him?” She asks you.
You shrug, smiling.
Luffy beams at you. “Thank you, Y/N.” He turns to Zoro, “and who says pirates have to be scary?”
At that, both of them give pause.
“I definitely don’t want to be scary,” you mumble, more to yourself than anyone.
“The point is we need a new ship.” Luffy backtracks, “so where do we get one?”
Grabbing her maps, Nami sighs. “Our closest bet is the Gecko Islands. We can probably make it there before our ship sinks. Ditch this one and get a better one.”
“Good,” Zoro drawls, “with a working toilet.”
Nami glares at him but Luffy just grins; “great job, navigator.” He turns back to grab his jolly roger.
“You’re still not hanging that on my ship,” Nami reminds.
-
After Luffy and Nami’s disagreement of stealing a ship and the former running off to somehow convince a salesman to just give him a ship, you’re left wandering around with Nami and Zoro.
You weren’t a big fan of stealing a ship either, but you knew realistically that Nami was right. None of you had enough to berry to be able to buy a ship legally and Nami’s old ship was no longer an option.
Trailing behind Nami and next to Zoro, you let your eyes drag across the hustle and bustle of the shipyard, unable to fight the smile that curls on your lips as you watch people flutter around, completely in their own worlds. It’s such a simple thing and yet, you can seem to pull your eyes off of the bustling crowds completely engrossed in their worlds.
“Never been to a shipyard before?”
It takes you a second to realize Zoro is talking to you. With a blink and parted lips, you turn to him, meeting his eyes. It’s clear he’d been watching you, dark and intense eyes already on you and the realization pulls a light flush to your cheeks.
“I’ve been,” you answer, nodding. Eyeing Nami out of the corner of your eye and watching as she carefully glances around, entirely for a different reason than you had been. She’s in her own world, promptly and probably pointedly ignoring the both of you.
Focusing back on Zoro, you lick your lips. “It’s just…” But you trail off, unsure.
“What?” Zoro asks, blunt as usual.
The look on his face tells you he’s waiting to hear what you were going to say.
“Different,” you shrug, moving to hug your arm as you curl in on yourself. It’s clear you’re not as open as you were trying to pretend you were since joining Luffy’s crew. While the three of them were definitely nothing like Buggy, it was hard to deny that Zoro was intimidating. You’d only been with them for a short amount of time, but Luffy was easy to get along with. He did most of the talking anyways and his energy was infectious.
Nami you’d been unsure of at first too, and while she sometimes seemed closed off, she was easy to hold a conversation with. Sometimes short or cold, you still found her approachable.
Zoro, for some reason, made you nervous. You couldn’t rightly explain it. Every time you met his eye or tried to talk to him, you’d clam up with nerves and find yourself stumbling more than you usually did. Honestly, you made yourself look like a fool more times than not with him. His gaze was heavy, and the second it landed on you, it was like he was trying to unearth all your secrets.
“Different how?” He asks, pressing.
You lick your lips. “It’s… different seeing all these people without having to fear that Buggy might snap and kill them all.” Glancing at him out of the corner of your eye, taking in his eased stride and the way he always keeps at least one hand on his swords, you glance out towards the sea of boats. “He enjoyed making people's lives miserable.”
There’s a beat of silence before; “yours especially, it seems.”
You turn to him in shock, eyes widening at him. He’s no longer looking at you, head turned straight, but the expression on his face says it all.
“I guess,” you mumble, hugging your arm tighter.
Silence envelopes the both of you, all whilst Nami continues to lead to way completely oblivious to the tension that has surrounded the two of you. You’re careful to not glance Zoro’s way, even though you desperately want to.
Your mind races with wonder of what exactly he meant.
Luckily, you don’t have to stew in your thoughts for too long. A few minutes later the three of you hear the distinctive and familiar voice of Luffy, and with one glance at each other, you’re picking up the pace.
When you find Luffy, he’s standing at the front of a ship, grinning ear to ear.
“There you are,” Nami calls.
“Guys!” Luffy cheers, moving to make his way down to the three of you. “I found it,” he declares. “I found our ship.”
Turning your attention to said ship, you silently muse to yourself it’s not a bad choice. Luffy seemed to make rash decisions but he always followed his gut and you can’t say that this ship was a result of a bad decision. It was a decent size, not too big that it’d be unmanageable with four crew members but not small like the previous one. It had a certain charm to it as well.
“And this guy will sell it to us!”
You turn in the direction of Luffy’s gesture, noticing the man slumped over the edge of the ship that you hadn’t realized before.
Standing up, he turns to make his way down to Luffy as well, eyes wide as he stammers; “uh, w-wait, what…?”
“Yeah!” Luffy nods, oblivious. “The ship, we’ll take it.”
The man winces; “technically, she’s not for sale.”
“Huh?”
“And technically,” he continues, “I’m not a salesman.”
“Do you even work here?”
“Of course I do.”
“Okay,” you nod, smiling warmly. “What do you do then?”
He meets your eyes, “I’m Chief Technician in charge of encrustation removal and aviary waste eradication.”
Luffy’s face twists; “encru what?”
Zoro huffs next to you. “He scrubs barnacles and cleans bird shit.”
“He can’t help us,” Nami adds.
The two of them turn to leave.
“Wait! Wait! Wait!” The boy frantically calls, shaking his hands at you. “I can help you. The owner of this ship just happens to be my closest friend in the world.”
Nami seems unconvinced. “Your friend owns this ship?”
“Not just this one,” he grins. “She owns the whole shipyard. She’s rich rich.”
Luffy gasps; “oh!”
“I’m sure you could strike a deal with her.”
-
So it turns out Usopp, you learned his name was, was not lying about his friend owning the whole shipyard. It did, however, seem he was lying about how invited he truly was in his friends house—mansion.
Kaya herself didn’t seem to have any issue with Usopp, but her butler had a stick up his ass about him and that included the four of you.
If it hadn’t been for Kaya insistence that it was her birthday, you’re sure all five of you would’ve been promptly kicked off her estate and back to square one. Somehow, that didn’t happen and now you’d found yourselves invited to dinner.
Currently, you were eyeing the room you’d been given for the night with a sheen of excitement. You’d never been in a house, let alone a room this nice before. It was a major upgrade compared to the small, dingy tent Buggy had let you stay in. The bed itself was almost the entire size of what your tent had been.
It’s astonishing enough to you that you lose track of time. After spending far too long just exploring the room—because it was big enough to explore—you went to have a shower. It had been far too long since you’d been given the opportunity to bathe yourself, and you definitely weren’t about to pass it up.
You definitely spent far too long showering, letting the water soak into your skin and taking your time scrubbing the filth off your body.
By the time you’re finished, the bathroom is thoroughly fogged and you’re feeling refreshed.
It’s only then you remember you still have to find something to wear. Klahadore, the butler, had made it clear the clothes you all were wearing were not nearly good enough to eat dinner in—whatever that meant.
Leaving your room, you pause in the hall, glancing both ways as you try to remember what direction Klahadore had told you the clothes were in. He’d been rather gruff about it, barely able to hide the contempt in his gaze and you’d been too busy trying to ignore the discomfort to really listen to what he’d been saying.
You’re left wandering for about ten minutes before you see Nami slipping out of a room.
“I’m so happy to see you,” you breathe, grabbing her arm as she turns to you. She seems slightly unsure of your touch but she doesn’t pull away. “I’m sure I would’ve been lost for hours before I found my way. You look amazing, by the way.”
She really did. The red piece she had on was truly beautiful and it looked stunning on her.
Snorting faintly, she smiles softly. “Thanks,” she nods. “There’s a ton of outfits to choose from in there. The boys are in there too, but be careful, they’re hopeless.”
You let out a chuckle, “they weren’t any help?”
“Those two?” She rolls her eyes. “I’m pretty sure neither of them even know what a compliment is.”
Biting your lip, you pull back, letting her go. “Well, I’m gonna give it my best. Hopefully I can find something.”
Perhaps sensing a bit of nerves from you, Nami hesitates before leaving. “You’ll look good in anything, I’m sure.” She reassures, offering a gentle smile. “There’s lots of options and we might not get the chance to dress up like this again. Go crazy.”
You’re instantly eased by her words and sending her a warm smile and a nod, you turn towards the door, letting her head back to her room.
You’re instantly greeted by both Zoro and Luffy the second you slip inside, the two boys turning to face you as you smile at them gently in greeting.
“Woah,” you breathe, letting your eyes flicker across the room. “That is a lot of clothes.” You hadn’t thought Nami was lying, you just hadn’t expected this much.
Zoro snorts as Luffy nods; “right? What would a person even need with it all?”
You let out a laugh, letting your hands drag across a rack of them, not even sure where to begin.
“Well, I’m gonna go with this,” Luffy calls and you turn back to him, eyeing the waistcoat he’s holding in his hands. You pause when you realize he’s only holding a waistcoat.
“Uh, Luffy—”
“See ya!”
He’s out the door in the next second, leaving you gaping in the direction he’d gone.
A moment later, you turn to Zoro; “he’s aware you’re typically supposed to wear a shirt under a waistcoat, right?”
Zoro shrugs, chuckling. “Probably not.”
You let out a laugh in response before turning back to the clothes, suddenly realizing you’re alone with Zoro. You’re still unsure about the conversation the two of you had had back at the shipyard so it’s hard to ignore the slight uncertainty you feel at being in the room alone with him.
That and the fact that he makes you nervous in general.
“Did you, um,” swallowing thickly, you meet his eyes. “Did you find something to wear?”
He holds up the shirt that had been on his lap. It’s a dark bronze button up, with what looks like silk material. It’s beautiful, and you can’t help the thought that pops into your head that it’ll look extra beautiful on him. “Nami found something.”
“Ah,” you nod, “it’s a nice shirt.” You smile at him, before pausing by the folding screen at the back end of the room. “I guess I should hurry and find something, huh? I took too long showering,” you chuckle nervously to yourself. “It felt so good, I couldn’t convince myself to get out.”
Laugh fading out, you swallow thickly when you realize Zoro is just staring at you.
“Did you need help finding something?” He asks after an agonizing moment of quiet.
You turn to him in surprise. “Huh?”
“A… dress or something,” he gestures loosely to the clothes, now looking slightly uncomfortable. “Did you need help finding something?”
You stare at him, stunned. You for a moment think you’ve imagined Zoro’s offer. Maybe you were still in your room, or maybe you were still stuck with Buggy and this was one big hallucination.
You choose to ignore why Zoro would be a part of your hallucination.
“I thought you didn’t like getting involved?” You offer him.
Zoro smirks, the edges of his lips tilting upwards. “Only when I don’t want to.”
It’s hard to fight the blush that spreads across your cheeks at his words or ignore the flutter of butterflies in your stomach. You’d be stupid to say you didn’t notice that Zoro was a rather… attractive man, but you’d pointedly ignored those thoughts in favour of focusing on more important things. But when he smirked at you like that and offered to help you… find something to wear, of all things, it was hard to ignore them.
Turning away so he can’t see your flush, you swallow thickly. “S-Sure,” you mumble, before shifting the conversation to save you some face. “But Nami warned me you and Luffy were practically hopeless.”
Zoro huffs, crossing his arms over his chest. “I’m certainly more helpful than that idiot.”
Grinning, you bite your lip, turning back to him.
Zoro frowns at your grin. “I know fashion.”
“I didn’t say you didn’t,” you laugh, holding your hands up in defence.
Scoffing, Zoro stands up, leaving the shirt Nami had picked for him over the arm of the chair as he crosses the distance of the room over to you. You freeze as he grows close, trying to ignore the race of your heart as he stops behind you, chest inches from your back, and reaches past you to grab a dress off one of the higher racks.
You watch as he pulls it down, trying to ignore the bulge of his bicep as he does.
The dress he picks is light beige in colour, floor length with one shoulder strap. The strap of the dress has an extra piece of fabric that billows out around it. It’s a simple silk material, but the hem of the dress is decorated in a darker, bronze lace trim.
It’s beautiful.
You’ve certainly never worn a dress so beautiful.
“Here,” Zoro calls, handing the dress to you. “This one. It’ll look nice with...” he gestures loosely to your eye, as if unsure how to say it.
You blink up at him, warmed at his words and how he hadn’t just chosen the dress at random like it seemed he had. Had he seen the dress when Nami had been looking and thought of you? That thought made your heart race.
“Try it on.”
Wordlessly, you take the dress from his hands, meeting his eyes one last time before turning to step behind the folding screen. You hear footsteps grow distant so you figure Zoro went back to the chair, and with only a second more of glancing at the beautiful dress, you move to slip off your clothes. Once you’ve slipped the dress on, it takes you a second or two to fully zip it up, unused to the movement.
The second it’s fully on, you glance down at yourself, letting your fingers run down the length of the dress, marveling at how soft the material is.
“You done?”
Jumping at Zoro’s voice, you cough faintly, swallowing thickly. “Y-Yeah.”
“Let me see.”
Blunt as usual, Zoro leaves no room for argument, so, with a nervous dip of your stomach, you force your legs to carry you out from behind the folding screen. You hesitate to meet his gaze, feeling nervous and unsure in a completely different way at the way Zoro’s eyes drag across your figure.
You’ve never worn a dress before, period. And certainly not one as pretty as this. Nami wasn’t lying when the clothes Buggy had made you wear were ridiculous. Corny and too colorful, Buggy had adorned you in clothes that made you look closer to a doll than an actual human being. It had been objectifying and humiliating.
And even though this was still a form of dressing up and even though you’re nervous, you can’t deny you feel beautiful.
Truly beautiful.
“What… What do you think?” You ask, finally meeting Zoro’s gaze as you tip your chin up.
There’s the briefest of seconds where his lips are left parted and an expression you’ve never seen washes over his eyes. Your stomach twists painfully, thinking that reaction was one of distaste, but before you can say anything, he’s coughing out a response;
“It’s… good.” The words seem forced, but not in a way that he’s lying but rather that he’s unsure of how they sound on his own lips. “You look… pretty.”
The blush returns. Ten-fold this time. Your whole body grows hot in response, nerves feeling like they’re on fire, as you stand there. You’re frozen still, for some reason scared to move.
“Oh,” you finally manage. “Thank you.”
He stands. It seems like an unconscious decision. “You’re welcome.”
Silence follows.
“You think this is the one?” You ask, before turning to the rest of the clothes. “Or should I—”
“No,” Zoro cuts in, sharp, before righting himself as he coughs, again, trying to play it off. “I mean, no, I think that’s a good choice.”
Believing it, you nod; “okay.”
Zoro glances at you, before glancing down. “I should get ready.”
“Oh,” you blink, “yeah.”
“Yeah.”
Standing there, opposite ends of the room, the two of you don’t move for a minute more. Then, Zoro finally turns.
“I’ll see you at dinner.”
“You too,” you whisper, watching his back disappear out the door.
You catch sight of the dress shirt Nami had found for him, and try not to let out a gasp when you realize the lace trimming of your dresses matches perfectly with his shirt.

Letting your eyes drift across the array of dinner food set out in front of you, you try not to let your obvious desire show. It was hard to deny how good everything smelled, though, and the want to just dig in and stuff your face like Luffy currently was was more than tempting.
But you wouldn’t let yourself look so silly. Not only was this a fancy dinner, you were wearing the nicest dress you ever had and surely ever will. You had no intention of soiling that opportunity by being anything less than ladylike.
Sat in between Zoro and Usopp, you tentatively glance around to see if anyone else has started grabbing food.
Luffy was the only one actively stuffing his face full. Usopp and Nami had grabbed food, but the latter was taking it much slower and Zoro…
Well, Zoro didn’t really seem interested in eating at all. He’d grabbed the bottle of wine on the table the second he’d seen it and after managing to chug through the entire bottle in a few mere minutes, he was already asking for another.
Deciding to just bite the bullet and ignoring the nerves of reaching for food, you grab a little bit of everything that catches your attention. There’s so much placed on the table you’ve no hope of ever being able to try it all, even though that’s what your heart desires. You settle for starting with what looks most appetizing and leaving the rest for if your stomach has the room for it.
Smiling to yourself, it takes you a moment before you realize there’s a set of eyes on you.
You instantly glance to your left, in the direction of Zoro, blinking when you find his eyes already on you. He has the glass of wine he’d poured for himself pressed against his lips, angled back to be able to watch you more easily.
He seems to freeze at being caught and you quickly divert your attention back to your now full plate before either of you can say anything. You’re hyper-aware of yourself in that moment, especially the dress you're wearing.
“I’d love to try the fish tonight.”
Looking up from your plate, you glance to the head of the table, watching as Kaya turns to the maid with a gentle smile and flutter of excitement.
“I’m sorry, Miss Kaya,” Klahadore cuts in before the maid can respond, stepping towards the girl. “But that is not possible.”
Kaya’s face falls. “Maybe just a small piece?”
“Now,” Klahadore sighs, as if exasperated by her simple request. “You know that certain foods can affect your constitution. Here, Buchi has prepared your special soup.”
At his invitation, Buchi steps forward, taking the bowl off his tray and setting it in front of Kaya.
You almost immediately blanch at the sight.
Whatever that was, it didn’t look anything like soup.
“Kaya,” Nami calls, “it’s your birthday. You should be able to eat what you want.”
You instantly nod. “And certainly something more special than… that.”
“Miss Kaya’s medical condition necessitates that I closely monitor her dietary needs,” Klahadore explains.
You meet Nami’s gaze from across the table.
“Does it mean you also speak for her?” Nami challenges, glaring at the man.
Blinking, Klahadore tilts his head, the action oddly threatening.
“I’ll take her fish!”
Leave it to Luffy to miss the entire point of the conversation.
Pressing a hand to your forehead, you shake your head.
“Luffy,” Usopp says, and you silently thank him for diverting the tension. “Isn’t there something that you wanted to talk to Kaya about?”
“Oh, yes!” Luffy exclaims, pointing at Usopp in recognition. He turns to Kaya, grinning. “Usopp told me you own the whole shipyard.”
“Well, actually my parents founded the shipyard, and Merry’s been running the business since…” Her voice trails off momentarily, eyes falling to her lap. “Well, since they passed.”
Swallowing thickly, you fiddle with the napkin on your lap.
“But all of that’s about to change,” Kaya continues, pulling your eyes back on her. “Tonight, at midnight, I will become the sole owner.” Her eyes naturally drift towards Usopp and the two share a soft smile between one another.
You grin at the interaction.
“Ah,” Luffy nods. “Well, that’s great, because we want to buy a ship from you.”
Kaya’s face eases in understanding. “I see. Usopp mentioned that you’re sailors.”
“Nope. Not sailors.” Raising his glass, Luffy smiles. “We’re pirates.”
You freeze at that, pointedly ignoring the way Usopp chokes on his own drink. Your gaze falls to Luffy, as if in doubt that he’d actually just said that. By the proud grin on his face, you’d say he in fact did.
Bringing his glass to his lips, you hear Zoro mumble under his breath; “this ought to be good.”
Kaya falters. “Pirates?”
Luffy nods; “yup! We haven’t sailed together for long, but we have already defeated an evil clown,” you shift at that, “raided a Marine base, and taken down a captain with an axe for a hand.”
Biting your lip, you sink into your chair, pressing a hand to your eye patch. Maybe you’d blend in with the chair and disappear from sight.
“These sound a lot like your adventures, Usopp,” Kaya turns to her friend.
Usopp lets out a nervous chuckle. “Yeah, that’s… that’s crazy.”
“Oh yeah!” Luffy cheers, and before you even realize it he’s standing to his feet, taking the glass in his hands and climbing up on the table. “And we’re just getting started.”
“Oh my God… Luffy!” You whisper, trying to meet his eyes so he’ll get down.
“What are you doing?” Klahadore bellows, astonished. “Get down from there at once!”
Luffy ignores you and the butler. “Being a pirate has been my dream for as long as I can remember. And I’m finally making it a reality.” Ever oblivious to the reactions of everyone else there, Luffy shifts to take a knee towards Kaya. “We’re heading out to the Grand Line, where even more adventures await us.” He moves to stand up straight again, making his way down the length of the table towards Kaya. “And at the end of the journey, I’m gonna find the ultimate treasure, the One Piece, and become King of the Pirates.”
Head tilting back to meet his gaze, Kaya’s lips part; “you’re… serious?”
Handing the glass he’d been holding to Klahadore, who accepts it with a barely concealed growl, Luffy crouches in front of Kaya, grabbing her by the shoulders. “Kaya, you have a beautiful ship out there. A caravel with a sheep figurehead. It spoke to me. That’s the ship we need to follow our dreams. I promise you, we’ll take care of it. Maintain it. Treat it like any other member of our crew, because a ship is also a home.”
Silence follows, no one says anything for the briefest of seconds. You focus your attention on your lap, fiddling with your fingers, wishing Luffy would get down from the table.
But before Kaya or really anyone could say anything, Klahadore’s voice booms;
“That will be quite enough! I should’ve known Usopp would bring riffraff to our doorstep.”
Kaya shakes her head; “Klahadore, it’s okay. I—” A violent cough pulls from her lips. It starts to wrack her body, cutting off what she’d been about to say as she hunches in on herself in response.
You sit up, leaning towards her. “Are you okay?” You ask, not sure if you should get up and help.
Klahadore steps forward before you can, pointedly glaring at you before shifting his gaze to Luffy. “Now look what you’ve done. You’ve upset Miss Kaya. All of you, out of this house at once!”
“No,” Kaya rasps. “It’s late. Let them stay the night.”
-
After the disaster that was dinner, you’d elected to stay in your room for the night.
You’re almost positive that the rest of your friends wouldn’t be able to rest or stay still for that matter. Even though you’d only been with them for a short while, it was easy to tell that an opportunity like this wouldn’t allow any of them to simply stay in for the night and sleep. Luffy was probably looking for more food, given that dinner had been cut short. Nami was definitely exploring the mansion, whilst grabbing whatever shiny trinket caught her attention. And Zoro? He was probably looking for more booze. You’ve very quickly come to learn that the man enjoyed his alcohol, and needed it in most instances.
You, however, were exhausted. A lot of things in your life had so rapidly changed and being out on sea, cramped in a small ship hadn’t left you a lot of opportunities to rest. The bed you’d been given for the night seemed far too tempting to ignore, especially knowing you probably wouldn’t get a chance like this one again.
So, changing out of the dress you’d borrowed from Kaya, feeling slightly disappointed you hadn’t gotten the chance to wear it for longer, you changed back into the clothes you’d borrowed from Nami and lay down on the bed.
You instantly sink into the cushion that is your mattress for tonight, a soft sigh leaving your lips as you feel your tense muscle instantly ease.
However, you learn quickly it isn’t so easy to fall asleep. Even on a large and soft bed, you were now struggling with the actual act of falling asleep. You couldn’t completely relax. For a multitude of reasons. Even though you were free of him, you’d only escaped Buggy a short while ago. The scars of what he’d done to you were still heavily prevalent and you doubted they’d go away anytime soon. Every time you close your eyes, you can see those gleaming eyes and hear his laugh echo in your mind.
You can feel the scars that cover your body from his abuse.
Beyond that, you can’t get rid of the uneasy feeling you felt about Klahadore. It was obvious the man was more than just a nasty butler. He’d been extremely controlling over Kaya all night, starting with not letting her eat anything other than that soup (which definitely wasn’t meant to be consumed) and the presence of Usopp and you and your friends seemed to particularly annoy him. It was obvious he was hiding something, you just weren’t sure what.
An hour or so must pass of you lost in your thoughts without getting any closer to actually falling asleep. You’re just about to give up in frustration, pressing the palms of your hands into your eyes with a groan of frustration, when a large bang startles you. It’s instantly followed by a mechanical whirring noise. You jump up, gaze snapping around for the source of the noise. You frown when you realize the noise is coming from the large window in your room. There was a shutter coming down, blocking out the nightlight and effectively trapping any escape through it.
The lights in your room, despite having been turned off for you to sleep, were now flickering on and off.
Swallowing thickly, you crawl out of bed, moving towards the window. Your hands tentatively reach out for the window only to realize the shutter is on the other side of the glass pane. It was clearly intended to block people out, but also lock people inside.
“What the…”
Turning around, your eyes fall on your door, rushing towards it and letting out a soft breath of relief when you realize that it is still open.
The windows in the hall are no different than the one in your room. You also notice that the lights are flickering on and off in the whole house, making the large mansion seem entirely eerie in a different way.
Heart racing, your unease from before triples into terror as you begin moving down the hall. Your hope is to find one window or door that isn’t being barricaded, to try and escape. That doesn’t happen. Every window is blocked out by the metal shutters. Someone was putting the house on lockdown.
You fear you already know who that someone was.
Picking up the speed of your step, you turn down the hallway, glancing back the way you’d come in fear there was someone following you. Only, that causes you to crash right into another body. You let out a startled scream, fighting the hands that fall on your shoulders, thinking you’ve run into Klahadore himself.
“Y/N! Y/N, it’s me!”
Blinking, you turn, focusing your gaze in front of you and easing when you seem a familiar head of orange hair.
“Nami,” you breathe, relieved. Reaching for her, you grab her arms. “I’m so happy to see you. Where’s Zoro? Luffy? Do you know what’s going on? Why is the house in lockdown?”
She just shakes her head at you, eyes flipping around, seeming rushed. “I can’t answer all those questions right now,” she huffs, shuffling back as she tugs you along, fingers wrapping around your wrist. “There’s no time. Kaya’s in danger!”
She turns to race back down the way you’d just come from. You let her pull you, rushing to match her pace as you shake your head in confusion.
“Kaya’s in danger?” You echo, “Nami, what’s happening?”
Glancing at you over her shoulder, never slowing her pace, Nami frowns. “It’s the butler, Klahadore. Him and that maid and chef are going to kill Kaya! They’re pirates and they want the shipyard! They’ve been poisoning Kaya this entire time…”
Eyes widening, you quicken your pace so you’re next to her rather than beyond. Briefly, Nami glances at you once more, and you just nod at her. You’re shocked and you’re dying to ask more questions; like how she knows or where the rest of your friends are. But you know time is of the essence right now and you don’t need to know all those to believe her. “Lead the way,” you assure. “You know where Kaya’s room is?”
Blinking at you, Nami only pauses for a second. “Y-Yeah,” she answers. “It’s just down the hall.”
A few minutes later the both of you are stopping in front of a set of double doors. You let Nami take the lead, chancing a nervous glance behind you in fear that Klahadore will come around the corner any second. It takes Nami a few seconds before she manages to get the door open, and the second she does, you both rush in.
Her shoulders ease when she sees Kaya, Usopp behind her. “Thank God you’re alive.”
Kaya hovers by the table she’d been sitting at, frowning.
“Why wouldn’t we be alive?”
-
“Poison?” Kaya echos, breathless. “What are you talking about?”
Shuffling near the door, you glance between it and Kaya and Nami.
“I overheard them in the kitchen,” Nami explains. “It’s been going on for years.”
Kaya hesitates, fiddling her hands in front of her as she glances over at Usopp. “Did Usopp put you up to this?”
“I didn’t even know,” Usopp instantly denies. He doesn’t look angered by Kaya’s accusation, if anything, he looks more upset than she does. His face is distraught, eyes flickering across the tea set Kaya has on the table. “I gave you that tea.”
“Think about it, Kaya. When did you start getting sick? Was it around the time Kuro started working here?”
By the expression on her face, the answer is obvious.
“Listen to me,” Nami urges, grabbing her hands and pulling her focus back on her. “If we stay here, we die. We have to leave now.”
“Easier said than done,” you breathe. “Everything is locked down. And if Klaha—Kuro is after you, he’s probably already on his way here.” Shaking your head, you turn to look at them. “Where are we gonna go?”
Meeting your eyes, Kaya lets out a shaky breath.
-
You freeze when Kaya starts coughing, your entire body tensing.
Almost instantly, five blades slice through the wall of the mansion, missing Kaya and Usopp by an inch as the two of them fly back. You stumble back in response, trying to make room in the narrow servants corridors. But then, Kuro is pulling his blades back before slicing them back in in a different spot, this time right by Nami.
Just as Usopp turns to rush forward, Kuro’s blades stop him.
“It’s your birthday,” Kuro growls from the other side of the wall. “It’s time to celebrate.”
He slices his blades through again, this time both, one of each side of Kaya, the ones on her left nicking her on her arm.
Heart falling at the small cry that leaves her lips and processing just how dire of a situation you’re all in, the thought that pops up in your mind seems like the best option. You say it before you even realize what you’re saying. “Go,” you hiss, quietly enough that Kuro can’t hear you but the three of them can. Their eyes instantly fall on you. “I’ll distract him.”
Eyes widening, Nami shakes her head. “What? Y/N, no!” She turns to face you.
You jump as he sends his blades through once again, this time narrowly missing you, Nami stumbling back in response to avoid them as well.
“We’ve no choice,” you argue, “he’s going to kill Kaya!”
“Y/N—”
You don’t let Usopp finish, ignoring the look in Nami’s eyes as you step back.
“Stay here until I’m gone,” you whisper, meeting each of their gazes before nodding.
Then, with one last breath in, you pick up your pace, deliberating making your footsteps loud as to entice Kuro. You force a cough from your throat, hoping the barrier of the wall muffles the fact that your voice sounds different from Kaya's. As you run, you hear footsteps following you, and the distinctive voice of Kuro laughing;
“Come on then, Kaya! Don’t keep me waiting!”
With no plan in mind, you continue running, going back the way you’d just come and hope that Kuro continues to fall for the bait. You hope he’ll just assume Kaya got scared and went running back to her room.
Breathless, you continue to make your footsteps loud, forcing a cough every now and then, trying to buy as much time for Kaya and the others as you can.
Making your way back to the entrance you’d gone through in Kaya’s room, your eye flickers across her entire room, trying to find something to help yourself. You couldn’t fight to start with, but something was better than standing there helplessly. Grabbing one of the chairs around her tea table, you make your way towards the door. You definitely didn’t want to be trapped in her room with Kuro.
The second you step out of the room, you see Kuro in the hall, a few feet away from you.
You freeze and his eyes widen when he realizes it’s you and not Kaya. For a second, you both just stand there, waiting, and you watch as anger blazes in his eyes, mouth setting into a thin line. You fear he’ll go back in the direction of Kaya and the rest, so, stepping forward, you take the chair you’d grab and throw it at him. It doesn’t even reach him, crashing into the ground before his feet as his eyes lower to eye it, before falling back on you.
Then, you run. You turn to the right, racing down the hall opposite of him, making yourself move as fast as you possibly can. Maybe you could find Zoro, he’d know what to do. Nami had explained Luffy had been poisoned, but maybe if you could find him, you’d at least be able to help him. He’d defeated Buggy after all, so maybe he’d…. Shaking your head from that though, you remind yourself he’d been poisoned. Finding him would probably only put him in more danger.
Maybe you could find the switch that was keeping this place in lockdown. If you flipped it back, that’d help Kaya and the rest and give you an opportunity to escape.
You turn down a series of hallways all whilst hearing the thunderous steps of Kuro behind you. You’re happy he’s following you and taking the bait, but now that you’ve done it, you’re not exactly sure what your plan is. He curses at you, threatening he’ll do worse to you if you don’t stop. The threats make your heart race and your throat clam up with fear.
You never stop running though.
At least, until there’s nowhere else to run. As you make a turn, you realize you’ve made your way to the main foyer.
Your eyes instantly fall on the maid and chef.
Their eyes instantly zone in on you, gleaming with interest and smiling as your eyes widen at the sight of them.
“Fuck,” you breathe.
Just then, Kuro catches up to you, stopping right behind you.
You’re thoroughly trapped, pinned on either side by Kuro and his crew, and the only exit was currently locked down.
“Got nowhere to run now, have you?” Kuro laughs, voice thick with desire to kill. You inhale sharply, stumbling back as he steps towards you. As you make your way down the small set of stairs, you’re quickly reminded of Kuro’s crew as you hear them laugh mockingly behind you. A quick glance behind you tells you they're right behind you, so you freeze in the spot.
What the hell were you supposed to do now?
Cornered, you try to look for an escape, but there isn’t one. You already didn’t have a hope of fighting off Kuro, and you definitely didn’t have a hope of fighting all three of them. Your only weapon had been that chair, which was now broken and hadn’t even hit Kuro.
“Annoying,” Kuro hisses, glaring down at you. “Playing the hero and leading me away from Kaya.”
Shoulders tensing, you stare up at him.
His hand swings out before you can dodge it, slicing across your face in a way that pulls a scream from your lips. It hits directly on your right cheek, slicing across the strap of your eyepatch and into your skin. Blood beads across the four slices as your eyepatch falls to the ground. You watch it hit the ground in despair, shredded by his blades. Biting back the sob that wants to fall from your lips, you clutch at your cheek, turning back to look at Kuro.
He grins at you. With your right eye now visible, there’s a particularly cruel gleam that floods his eyes. “Well, look at that.”
Embarrassment brews in your chest, wanting to turn your face away and hide. The sting of your cheek is painful, and you can’t help the tremble of your body. You’re all too easily reminded of your helplessness. You’d told Luffy you were a lousy fighter and when he’d brushed it off with no concern, that’d given you the hope that maybe it wasn’t so bad. You were naive to think having no fighting skills wouldn’t catch up to you when dealing with pirates and even more of a fool to think that your brave plan to help Nami, Usopp and Kaya wouldn’t end in your death.
You didn’t regret doing what you had. You hope that by leading Kuro away, they’d already found an escape route. But you didn’t want to die either. You’d just escaped from Buggy too, and now you were going to die at the hands of another sick pirate crew.
“Such a shame too,” he mocks, “you were so pretty.”
Biting your lip, you swallow thickly.
“Finish her off for me and we’ll hide her body with the green-haired swordsman after I’ve finished with Kaya.”
Your heart starts at the mention of Zoro, terror flooding you at the thought that he might be hurt, or worse, dead.
“Zoro?” You breathe, voice pitching. Turning to Kuro, you shake your head. “What did you do to him?”
Kuro snorts, “he’s dead. Along with your captain, and your friends, as well as Kaya, will follow suit soon.” He grins, ear to ear, as his crew laughs behind him. “Try not to worry then, dear. You’ll be reunited with them all soon enough.”
Kuro turns to leave then, not sparing you another glance, leaving his crew to kill you off for him.
-
“Y/N. Y/N!”
Feeling hands grab at you, your limp body is spun and pulled into a chest as you slowly blink open your eyes. Everything hurts, your entire body is stinging to the point that even the slightest movement has you crying out in pain.
“Y/N!”
You recognize that voice. Forcing your vision to clear in your left eye, you ease when you see a familiar head of green hair. The relief that floods you is immediate, allowing you to ignore your own discomfort.
“Zoro,” you rasp, voice cracking with strain. “You’re alive.”
Zoro frowns down at you. “What the hell happened?” Shifting, his left hand falls on your waist, pressing against the nasty cut you were currently bleeding out from. His eyes fall on the wound and he huffs. “Shit. You’re losing too much blood.”
Setting you gently back on the ground, Zoro leans back, grabbing the hem of his shirt and ripping a strip of it off. You watch him with your good eye, bleary and dazed, body limp in his grasp as he tugs you up, slipping the strip under you so he can tie it around your waist, applying pressure to your cut.
Using all your strength, you raise your arm, gripping onto his arm. “Kuro,” you gasp, voice pitching. “The butler, he—”
Zoro shakes his head. “I know, Y/N. Fuck, did you really try to fight him?”
You laugh at that, weakly. “I’m a lousy fighter.” When Zoro doesn’t laugh with you, you sigh, letting your head fall back. “He was after Kaya… I distracted him to give them time.”
Zoro just blinks down at you, stunned, taking in the cuts across your cheek, and the bleeding wound in your stomach, his chest flooding with rage.
“We need to get you out here,” Zoro says, moving to pick you up. “We need to get you help.”
You just shake your head, pushing against his arm. “Kaya, Usopp and Nami… They… They need help.”
“Luffy’s got it,” Zoro says, trying to grab you.
You push harder. “Those two—the ma-maid and chef… they’re still—”
“Here?” A new voice cuts in, both you and Zoro glancing towards the front door only to see both of them there. Despite their ridiculous get up, your heart races with fear.
Something shifts in Zoro’s gaze. It’s an expression you’ve never seen. His eyes darken as his lips straighten, and he’s gently pulling back from you, making sure you’re settled on the ground, as he stands, pulling out the two black handled katanas.
“Just hang on, Y/N,” he whispers down at you, meeting your eyes from above as you glance up at him. You’re surprised by the burning rage in his gaze and it’s not at all directed at you. “I’ll kill them and then we’ll get you somewhere safe.”
Too tired to realize how those words would’ve made you feel normally, you nod weakly, letting your head fall back, knowing that Zoro will keep his word.
-
Zoro had been deliberate about keeping the fight away from you.
Having tucked you into the corner, you could only really hear the sounds of his fight. You wanted to get up and help, but you knew even without your injuries, you wouldn’t be able to do anything. And as you hear the sounds of metal clanging against metal, you make a mental note to actually take those lessons from Zoro up. You were learning and had learned far too quickly that having not even a bit of self-defence skill was not possible if you were going to be on Luffy’s crew.
It takes Zoro an impressively little amount of time to defeat Kuro’s crew. You can hear the waning sounds of fighting as you force yourself to turn, ignoring the ache that burns through your entire body. Your left eye shows you he’s in the midst of tying the two up, both of them growling in frustration and fighting weakly in protest.
Unaware of the way Zoro’s gaze falls on you, you press your hand to the ground, using it as leverage to push yourself up to your feet. Your teeth grind against one another as you lift yourself up, managing to shift your feet underneath you before a sharp shoot of pain has you crying out. Instantly, your arm gives out beneath you, and you go crashing towards the ground.
Or, at least, you would’ve, had an arm not caught your fault.
“Are you crazy?” Zoro breathes, shaking his head at you as he shifts you in his grip. “You’ve lost too much blood for you to be trying to stand up.”
Letting your hand fall on his arm, you breathe in sharply. “We… I’m worried about Kaya, Usopp and Nami,” you rasp, voice cracking at the end. “I need to check on them.”
“I told you Luffy had it, damn it,” Zoro huffs, before he shuffles, setting his left hand on your back and the other moving to hold your hand. He helps pull you to your feet, going slow to not hurt you more as his eyes flicker from the wound in your stomach to your face. You're drenched in sweat and blood, but the expression on your face is determined. “Worry about yourself.”
He says it with an expression of frustration, but he lets you lean your entire weight against him and doesn't pull away.
Meeting his eyes, you frown. “I’m worried about Luffy too.” You breathe, “and not because I don’t have faith in him but—”
“Zoro! Y/N!”
Lips parting, you glance up, eyes falling on Luffy himself as he comes racing down the stairs to your right. Behind him is Nami and then Usopp and Kaya. The smile that had been on Luffy’s lips falters at the sight of you when he sees the blood on your shirt, hesitating by the bottom of the stairs. Something shifts in his gaze, a look of anger you’ve never seen on the boy before. But before you can ponder on it for much longer, Nami pushes past him.
“Oh, my God,” Nami calls, eyes wide. “Y/N.”
She reaches you in seconds, bending to get a better look at the wound in your stomach.
You glance at her, then at Luffy, before your eyes drift past him to Usopp and Kaya. Everyone looks at you in a similar way, eyes drowning in concern.
“I’m okay,” you assure, trying to ease their worry. “It’s just a scratch.”
“She’s lying,” Zoro grunts, never letting go of you. “She needs medical attention.”
Nami shakes her head. “She probably needs stitches,” she breathes, voice pitching in panic as she pulls back your tattered shirt, getting a closer look at the wound. Turning to Zoro, she meets his gaze. “I know a little bit but not for something like this.”
“I can help,” Kaya calls out, weakly stepping away from Usopp’s arm as she smiles at you. “I know a little about stitching and cleaning a wound. Plus, it’s the least I can do. Leading Kuro away like that… I can’t ever thank you enough, Y/N.”
Smiling faintly, you brush her off; “you don’t need to thank me. You’re my friend, I wanted to help.”
Kaya looks at you astonished, but before she can respond, Nami is turning to her. “We better be quick,” she urges, looking concerned for you but also antsy. “The marines already know where we are. The longer we stay, the closer they get to catching up to us.”
Kaya nods, instantly moving towards her, just as Luffy speaks up;
“Where are we gonna go?” He asks, seemingly snapping out of his revere as he glances at his friends. “We don’t even have a ship.”
Pausing by you, Kaya turns to him; “yes,” she smiles. “You do.”
-
“Honestly, the both of you, I’m fine.”
Glancing at each other, Nami and Zoro make it clear they don’t believe you.
Sat in between them, you huff, touching the now stitched and bandaged wound on your stomach before letting your fingers drift across your cheek. After Kaya had stitched you up and given you something for the pain, you’d all headed out immediately. The ship she’d given you was named the ‘Going Merry’ in honour of her late friend Merry and Usopp and Kaya had shared a rather sweet kiss before the former agreed to join you.
Now with a bigger ship and five members, it was starting to feel like you all were actually a pirate crew. You felt closer with all of them and sharing that fight together, even if all you’d managed to do is get hurt, felt like you’d all truly bonded.
That, however, seemed to have both Zoro and Nami acting like overbearing, worried mothers over you. You could barely take two steps without one of them telling you to rest.
“Seriously,” you pout, crossing your arms over your chest. “I’m not a child. I can still do things for myself.”
“You have a cut that wraps around your entire waist, Y/N,” Nami reminds, curling a brow at you as she sets down the Grand Line map. “Not to mention your face.”
You gape at her, trying to find something to argue against and coming up blank, you turn your gaze to Zoro. He’s slouched back against the edge of the bench you’re all sitting at, head turned towards the window, but the expression on his face and his returning silence tells you he feels the same as Nami.
Seriously, for two distant and rather intimidating people, they sure were overprotective.
“I promise I’m fine. And the second I’m fully healed, I’ll be roping Zoro into giving me some fighting lessons so something like this never happens again.”
That pulls Zoro’s eyes on you. “I definitely will be teaching you some moves,” he assures. “For the next time you decide to sacrifice yourself.”
He glares at you but it doesn’t amount to much and you let out a small giggle at that, cheeks warming faintly. You miss the way his gaze softens the second you do, but Nami who’s sat across from him definitely doesn’t. Zoro promptly ignores her knowing smirk.
“I think it was badass!”
Sharply reminded of his presence, all three of your eyes fall on Luffy who’s sitting at the other side of the table.
“Though,” he pauses, a smile faltering on his face. “I would rather you didn’t get covered in blood next time we fight.”
You snort at that, sending him a reassuring smile. “No worries, Captain,” you send him a thumbs up. “I’ll make sure not to worry everyone again.”
Nami rolls her eyes and Zoro scoffs, but Luffy’s face stretches into a wide smile, nodding at you.
“A shame though,” he adds a moment later, almost as an after-thought. “I did think your eyepatch was cool.”
Shoulders tensing, you’re sharply reminded of the fact that because of Kuro, your eyepatch had been sliced to shreds. You’d asked Kaya if she’d be able to stitch it back together, but she’d only frowned and said it was ruined beyond repair. You knew you could just get a new eyepatch, but you didn’t know when you’d get the opportunity to do so. Let alone if you’d even have the money to buy one.
As a result, you’d been forced to depart from Gecko Islands without it and feeling entirely too seen and vulnerable with your eyes there for everyone to see. You’d been hiding behind it for as long as you can remember and you were desperately trying to ignore the fact that you couldn’t until now.
You knew Luffy meant nothing behind it, but you couldn’t help the way you instinctively curled into yourself in response.
“Cha,” Zoro calls out, clicking his tongue, “she doesn’t need it anyways. She looks badass enough without it.”
Lips parting, your stunned eyes fall on him. He’s pointedly not looking at you, eyes focused back on the window to his right, but you notice a faint flush across his cheeks.
Nami giggles quietly to herself. “Zoro’s right,” she agrees, smiling at you when you turn to look at her. “The eyepatch just hid your face and you shouldn’t be ashamed of the way you look.”
Lips still gaping, the warmth that floods through your chest is undeniable.
“Ah!” Luffy exclaims a second later, “you guys are right! Your eye is even more awesome than the eyepatch! Both of your eyes!”
A smile curls onto your lips, eyes falling to your lap as you let their words flood through you, basking in the kindness. No one has ever made you feel so… normal about your eye and the way it looks. Not just normal, but accepted.
In that moment, every cruel insult that has ever been thrown your way becomes immeasurable to the words your friends say to you then.
“Guys! Check it out!”
Swallowing thickly, the moment is interrupted as Usopp comes bounding into the room, a grin plastered on his face. “Using my unparalleled artistic talent, I made us a new Jolly Roger for the ship.” Grabbing Luffy by the arm, he pulls him up to his feet, making Luffy hold the Jolly Roger as he opens it to show you all.
It’s a skull, as expected, but… Usopp-ified.
“Ta-da!”
Usopp chuckles in excitement, still grinning from ear to ear, as you grimace. Luffy was not going to like that.
“I know. I know,” Usopp laughs, “my flair for design often leaves people speechless.”
Folding the Jolly Roger back up, Luffy hands it back to Usopp with a forced smile.
“I already drew our flag,” Luffy explains.
“Okay,” Usopp snorts, “but this one is so much better.”
Zoro just sighs from beside you. “Neither of the flags are gonna scare anyone away.”
“Okay,” Usopp drawls, wrapping his Jolly Roger around his shoulders. “But the Jolly Roger is supposed to reflect the captain.”
Luffy doesn’t hesitate; “I am the captain. We are the Straw Hat crew—”
“—They call me Captain Usopp.”
You bite your lip, watching as the two proceed to talk over one another.
Then, Nami laughs.
It gives everyone pause, turning to her as she lets her head fall in amusement, shoulders shaking with laughter.
Everyone follows suit after that.
Pressing your hand to your lips, your eyes crinkle in warmth and delight.
“You see?” Luffy grins, patting Usopp on the shoulders. “This is what it’s all about. From now on, it’s all gonna be smooth sailing.”
As if jinxing it, the sound of a cannon firing echoes right after his words. A second later, a thud hits the boat as the entire ship rocks, causing you to lose your balance and fall forward. You tilt, pain shooting through you as you agitate your wound.
Hands fall on you.
“You okay?” Zoro asks, eyes flickering across you.
You nod, “yeah.” You say slowly, breathless, as you glance around at the rest.
“What was that?” Usopp gasps.
Nami just sighs, moving to stand. “You had to open your mouth.”
Waiting for Zoro to stand, you follow after him, moving slower than the rest as they make their way up to the deck. Cannon continues to fire, some rocking the ship, until you all see the cause of the explosions.
“Marines!” Nami yells, “we’re under attack!”
Moving up the stairs, you nod gratefully at Zoro as he helps you up the final few steps, watching as Luffy takes the telescope to see who's attacking you.
Your eyes widen, however, when he calls out;
“Grandpa?!”
