I love how your Adrien in la terreur is so gnc/nonbinary coded, like even amongst the rest of the sentimonsters he's somehow even more of a creature than them. I'll see your drawings of him with a shaved head and then him with luscious long locks of beautiful hair like Rapunzel and I'm like "Emilie and Gabriel just wanted the perfect child huh. They just didn't specify gender in whatever way." He's like a creature roaming in the forests stealing everyone's gender, or lack there of. No hate though ! ​you definitely picked up on the link between his androgyny (and consequent neoteny) and his lack of personhood.

He doesn’t get to have secondary sexual characteristics because that’d mean puberty, ergo adulthood, ergo autonomy. Growing up being gnc is never a choice for him so he grows to resent it. His story would be very different if he had been a girl.

I fear I may soon have to drop the adrien misogyny comic…

THIS. I definitely agree/commiserate with other anon here.

Similarily, there's the trend of just Ladybug getting credit or attention in her partnership with Chat. Off the top of my head: Alya outright ignoring and never acknowledging Chat saving her personally, twice, in the Origins episodes, the class cheering Ladybug's name in Bubbler when her and Chat show up, Fu thanking Ladybug in Feast and her alone even though Chat was just as involved and is standing right there, just...all of Timetagger (aka Bunnix constantly uplifting LB "you're the bestest hero ever now and in the future" and essentially telling Chat "you're a reckless idiot and ruin things in the future"), the whole city chanting her name in Strikeback, Ladybug and Chat showing up in front of Alix in Evolution while she cries out "Ladybug!", the opening news segment of Illusion in which the citizens talk about "Ladybug's" actions against Monarch, and even the Paris special when Sabine tells Tom "she's" already gotten a miraculous back (Chat who?)...

It's just, no wonder people think he's a sidekick. She's treated like a solo hero by the city more often than not, because even though he's been by her side contributing 99% of the time, he's rarely mentioned or acknowledged. I don't care if they're supposedly "partners" and it's just that "she leads, " or it's "her story", it's just so obvious the writers are prioritizing girl power/wish fulfillment over everything. And don't care nearly as much about uplifting their deuteragonist who they wrote to have self-esteem issues and an abusive home life (seriously, why did they write him that way if they never intended on adequately addressing it???), because he's...not a girl, I guess. And therefore he doesn't need or deserve to be appreciated or celebrated for being a 14 year old hero. or doing so wouldn't serve the wish fulfillment

And sure, to be fair, there are times when both their names are mentioned, but the fact that removing his name so often is a complete non-issue really tells you something. Like it's almost...nice of them to include him, but not required. Whereas the opposite is definitely not true. Can you imagine, Ladybug and Chat showing up somewhere as everyone starts chanting "Chat Noir!" alone?? Kinda seems weird that they'd just ignore her existence, now doesn’t it.

Alternately, there are times that LB messes up and then they both get blamed for it. Which after everything...is so frustrating. This is already a longer ask than I intended, so I won't go into it more, but in sum...the show tends to ignore his contributions but elevate him to "partner" status when she fails and needs an emotional support lackey.

Just...have him explicitly in the role of the sidekick from the get-go (no ying-yang this or ignoring his equal contributions that), and bam! No problem. Or at least, less problems.

Okay so I definitely veered into ranting about their "partnership" instead of the whole team getting shafted for Ladybug's sake, but I'd be curious to hear more/see examples, if you have any thoughts or if the other anon cares to chime in again.

One thing that stands out to me in addition to all of this is fans. Adrien the model’s fans are depicted as annoying unless they’re Marinette, meanwhile Ladybug’s fans are depicted as sympathetic unless they’re Theo. Like, Adrien is a fan of Ladybug but Ladybug thinks Cat Noir is an egotist and doesn’t even respect him as more than a teammate from the get-go despite him being shown as being originally more competent with his Miraculous than her with hers. She doesn’t need to do anything more than show up and Cat Noir will stare at her in slack-jawed awe, but, whenever he showcases remarkable skill in languages, binary, fencing, combat, superheroics or just clearly having a strict moral code, she’s just annoyed at him and thinks he’s showing off.

Cat Noir isn’t appreciated, in universe, outside of his existence being acknowledged. Like, Paris putting up a statue of Ladybug alone would have been such a snub, but, considering the rest of the ‘Copycat’ episode, I feel like the statue depicted Cat Noir as well just so that they could have that setup between Cat Noir and Theo. There isn’t a single Cat Noir fan in the cast, like, Nino is excited to see him in ‘The Horrificator’, but that being because Cat Noir is his favorite between him and Ladybug is just my headcanon and Adrino bias, we actually have no evidence of that.

Alya’s blog is the “Ladyblog” not the “Miracublog”, so the main news outlet for the heroes is Ladybug-focused. Chloé fangirls Ladybug but sneers at Cat Noir, but, since the show was always very bad about showcasing Chloé and Adrien’s friendship, it isn’t really set up to be for irony’s sake, but more because Ladybug is supposedly cooler / the wish-fulfilment. "Everyone who's mean to you in school would like you if they really knew you". The villains can’t shut up about Ladybug, but Cat Noir only gets vaguely mentioned in a “I’ll get you both next time” way.

Also, the importance of his Miraculous gets forgotten all the time by the writers, heroes and villains. There are so many times when Cat Noir is captured, incapacitated or mind-controlled, and very often the villains don’t even bring up the possibility of taking his Miraculous and, when it does get mentioned, it’s brushed aside with a “I’ll get it later”. Meanwhile, every time Marinette is cornered, the writers don’t waste a second before raising the stakes by having the villain try to reach for her Miraculous. Marinette is an attention black hole in-universe.

Throw you a soft pitch for the first one: New York Miraculous.

The Metropolis of the ML universe.

First of all, a lot of character names would have to change; that goes without saying. Two I've already thought of are Marie Baker-Cheng for Marinette (because obviously), and Adrian Glanville for Adrien (from the name of the Glanville fritillary, a type of butterfly). Others I can think of off the top of my head include Rose Glass (her canon name is a play on a French idiom roughly equivalent to "wearing rose-colored glasses") and Chloe Burgess. Nathaniel's name is one of the few that would see no change.

Bagels would probably replace macarons as Tikki's food of choice. For Plagg I have no idea.

NYC is one of the four big fashion capitals of the world, together with Milan, London, and Paris, so Marinette would probably still be into fashion. I see an American writing team putting more focus on it and her career aspirations in general, compared with what we got in canon.

Speaking of which, I don't think the romance would be as big a deal, especially compared to the superhero plot. "L'amour" is stereotypical for France (and especially Paris), but American media seems to have moved away from putting that much emphasis on romance in stuff aimed at little girls. I've also noticed that the English dub tends to remove a lot of the really sappy romantic dialogue, for example Cat Noir saying that he fell on purpose just so he could meet Ladybug again goes to "Thanks, m'Ladybug, but I had it covered."

I don't think an American Adrien would ever say "m'lady" unironically.

NYC has been described as "the gay capital of the world", so Julerose and MarcNath are more likely to be confirmed in the show itself, as opposed to the showrunner just saying it on Twitter. Same with Marc being non-binary.

Stuff like Nino being Muslim and Nathanaël being Jewish are also more likely to be confirmed. America just does not have the same cultural bug up its ass about "freedom from religion" that France does.

NYC has the biggest Jewish population in the entire world outside of Israel, so I'd expect Nathanaël to be featured a bit more prominently. (The bronze medal goes to France, btw, which is why it's kinda weird to me that Nath is the only Jewish character in the entire cast. But I digress.)

While the ethnic make-up of the show wouldn't change that much, I'd expect that there would still be differences. Marinette would definitely stay Chinese (especially since NY has the second biggest Chinese population in the US, after California), but Alya would most likely be from an English-speaking Caribbean country like The Bahamas or Jamaica, and Nino would probably be from Syria or Lebanon, as those are the top two countries of origin for Arabs in the US, whereas Morocco is in like 5th or 6th place. That kind of thing. This means that Sapotis would probably not happen or happen very differently, since it's kinda dependent on Alya's family being from Martinique.

Audrey (and therefore Zoé) would probably swap to living in Paris.

The role of perpetually destroyed monument most likely goes to the Empire State Building or the Statue of Liberty. Probably both, with the victim of the week changing depending on the episode.

Some episodes, like The Mime, Bakerix, or Dearest Family, would probably not happen at all or would happen very differently, as they either reference French cultural stuff or otherwise rely on the show being set in France. The Mime would most likely not exist in a version of Miraculous set in NYC.

Gorizilla would be even more of a King Kong pastiche.

Actually; a Majority of the Mercs are part of the LGBTQ! I’ll go in order for you on the Sexualities everyone has @saralingling (also major thanks to my wife @lovedevildice4ever for helping me out)

Red Team:

Chad: Bisexual; He did start crushing on girls back in school but none of the boys were hot looking until he met Silas on the job, He’s actually in a Relationship with Silas

Sullivan: Pansexual; It started out as just Bisexual when he did fall for some girls but after a bit, He fell for some Trans men and Trans women so when he did his research; He found out he was Pansexual and he is in a Open relationship with Elliot and Adrien

Silas: Very Gay; He used to be Straight but after an accident that left him with half of his face scarred up, Every girl he got with was mean to him, Scared of him or flat out ignored him. That was until he met Chad and saw he wasn’t scared of his scars, That got him to fall for Chad quickly.

Shawn: Pansexual. He realized this when he got married to a Trans Man (FtM) 2 years after graduating College and had a Son. He even found out his partner was Trans during the Love making that led to their son and saw his mate still had Lady parts but he didn’t care! The two had the baby anyway and Shawn is helping his lover get the money for Bottom surgery.

Roman: Gay as Hell!! After living with his Sister who is a Lesbian; He grew to see that he wouldn’t be happy with a Woman. He is in a Very happy relationship with Clause actually.

Elliot: Gay; He knew he was gay the day he was in high school. He was surrounded by many jocks growing up in that High school so he can collectively agree that he is gay. He is in a Open relationship with Sullivan and Adrien

Clause: Gay and Asexual; While he doesn’t really care about getting down in the sheets, He will engage in it if Roman wants to. Also he knew he was gay when he first met Roman but he didn’t want to be creepy so he kept his feelings to himself for a bit until Roman confessed

Adrien: Despite him being a Mann Co Bot; Adrien is Gay and Demiromantic like Alexandre. He found out he was Demiromantic when he formed a warm relationship with Elliot and Sullivan; Causing him to fall in love with the both of them.

Aaron: Non-Binary and Gay. Aaron is like me in terms of Non-Binary except he knows he’s a Guy but he sometimes feels like a Woman, so a Mix of both. His Dad, Shawn; supports him all the way and loves him for him. Aaron is in an Open Relationship with Big Al and Jack.

Otto: Gay as heck! He realized he was gay when he saw Bodybuilders on TV a couple of times; He fell for the muscles. He is in a Very Good relationship with Henry and would die to keep him safe

Noah: Trans Man (FTM) and Gay. Noah was born a female but he hated being a female; He felt super uncomfortable so with the first few paychecks he got, He got top surgery and testosterone. When he was finally comfortable as a Man, He realized that he liked the slim boys and fell for Louie. The two struck up a Relationship real quick

Henry: Gay and Asexual. He did try to engage in love making with a woman before when he thought he was straight but it grossed him out. So he never did it again and came out as Ace but when he tried it again with a man; It was better but he still thought it to be not entirely his thing so like his twin brother Clause, He will engage in Love making if Otto wants to.

Jack: Trans Man and Bi. Yep; Jack was a Female named Jackie, But like Noah; He didn’t feel comfortable so like Noah, He got top surgery and testosterone. Jack’s family doesn’t support him so Jack left his Bio family’s home and was adopted by a supportive family, Since then, He also found out he was Gay and is in a Loving relationship with Aaron and Big Al

Louie: Bisexual and Asexual. He does love Women and men; Hence why he is in a Relationship with Noah. He was with Phineas’s mom in the past before they divorced because the wife was caught cheating on Louie. The divorce didn’t stop him from loving other women though so yay lol.
