I am very invested in superbat apiary, hope Clark figures out his alien impulses and manages to get Bruce a kid
“I’d get him pregnant if I could,” Clark mutters, back to pacing across the living room. “Except he wouldn’t take the time off to have a baby anyway, he wouldn’t want to be out of commission that long and have to get back in condition after, I’d have to be the pregnant one, except I can’t even get pregnant, so what am I supposed to do?! He let Talia get him a kid! Talia!”
“I feel like ‘letting’ Talia al Ghul get him a kid was not involved in that situation,” Lois says. “More like . . . ‘having the existence of a kid specifically concealed from him’? At least, there were an awful lot of assassins involved for a ‘letting’ kind of scenario.”

hello I recently read Bramble and I would love some lore please about the similarities, differences, and relations between nymphs and green men. both are planty and can be related and belong to a Grove, but clearly there are differences. including I think that nymphs are connected to a specific plant but green men are not?
also I think it's neat how "green man" is not gendered. you don't have to be a man to be a green man.
green men are a subtype of nymph - so a green man is a kind of nymph, but not all nymphs are green men. banshee and berchtes are also subtypes of nymph
most nymphs are highly social, and they solve most social conflict similarly to bonobos - through the offering and soliciting of physical affection. nymph groves hang on each other, and rejection of this physical affection can have big social consequences.
Green men, on the other hand, are less gregarious and more reactive and very protective of (usually) much smaller groups. a 'grove' containing a green man is normally just the green man in question, their partner(s), and their children. Even in the case of groves with more than one adult green man like Logan and Remus, the grove is still spread out over a much larger area than normal and the individual family homes largely separate
green men are also usually larger and more muscular, while nymphs are typically very soft and not muscular whether they are thin or fat.
now, ideally, you could have a few green men per grove, with accommodation for their needs and deliberate attention paid to them as children to make sure they get along with each other. and it would kind of make sense, in that case, to have a subtype (a genetic variation if you will) of nymph thats more protective, if the overwhelming majority of them are more likely to flee freeze or fawn than fight.
what usually ends up happening is that green men are turned out as adolescents, when they get bigger and stronger than their nymph parents feel comfortable handling, to live as solitaries. weaker green men, like briar, are sometimes given a pass, but when so much of nymph groves social interaction relies on things like, conceding to affection you dont want from a higher ranking member or else your slighting them, they dont tend to handle green men well. THIS part is cultural - nymphs communicating through physical affection and scent is biological, the bullshit is cultural as it so usually is

lookin through your list of fics on ao3 for a bedtime story, and struck by how many are tagged with misunderstandings or miscommunication. definitely can tell it's a favorite trope lol (and I like it too, so win-win)
i love to put some characters in a situation they completely misinterpret. my favorite hobby :P

next reasonable question: how do they discover said venom partial-immunity? Accidentally? On purpose? "I'm immune to a lot of stuff, I wonder what happens if you bite me"? How much does Virgil freak out the first time he bites Roman and Roman goes all floppy?
Virgil: i don't know...
Roman, noodle-necked after sticking his hand in a gopher hole and getting got by a rattler: its been hours and im totally fine, timber rattlesnake venom is plenty toxic, yours cant be that much woseaskdj [trails off into slurring]

why "used to" on Coby eating lemons? would he appreciate some lemons now, even if they'd only be nibble sized?
Yes and no! His brain still thinks fondly of sour things and he does long for them. Little cravings. But if he actually has anything sour he becomes a sputtering mess because it's just too much for his senses/system. He'll have to slowly be reintroduced to lemons to fully enjoy them again! :3

hey, I was going through some old notes on dA, and I realized that it's been a full decade since you encouraged me to try digital art, and helped me through my beginner stumbles. I wanted to say thank you again, for the encouragement and support. It really means a lot to me.
(also, the realization that this means my tablet is ten years old makes me feel less upset that it kinda wore out, lol)
This made my day ❤ I'm so happy that the encouragement helped carry you forward! I'm always happy to keep cheering you on too! You've made some awesome strides over these years and I hope you keep creating!! Ten years flies huh? Impressive you've kept your tablet in good shape for so long! I cannot say the same 😅 I've put at least five poor tablets through the paces now with my heavy hand. If you're looking for a good affordable replacement, I've been keen on XP-Pen the last few years! I'd happily fill you in on the ones I've worked with!

what if also gremlins? *bites fic affectionately*
oh well i'm usually such a stickler for time *shoves calendar under bed* but just this once.
Gremlins
And anyplace humans showed up to was not a place any smart gremlin would want to be.
“Are you really this fussy about us maybe seeing a human?” Tomatozest’s ears are pinned in irritation. “That’s not even one of Doubleprint’s rules.” She says it like Doubleprint has this over abundance of regulations that every gremlin has to work to obey and not just a handful of little things like, ‘stay away from the wizard tower in the birch woods’, and ‘don’t play with the weird mushrooms behind what used to be the stables’.

one dp x dc ship that quickly comes to mind is Dani and Kon bonding over both being clones
the baby might be a surprise baby, because nobody is really fully sure how hybrid clone genetics work, and whether them both being half-human makes them compatible.
“. . . so like . . .” Kon stares down at Dani’s stomach, and the very tiny but very clear heartbeat slowly but steadily thrumming inside it.
“How did this happen when we’re both hybrids and therefore supposed to be infertile?” she assumes.
“Yeah, that,” Kon says.
“Ghost stuff, man,” Dani says, waggling her fingers. “We’re having a soul-baby. Sorry? Or you’re welcome. Whichever one applies.”
“What kind of ghost stuff?” Kon says. “Because I feel like this should’ve come up earlier, if it was a concern?”
“Oh,” Dani says, looking briefly embarrassed and then making a face. “Well, I thought it wasn’t a concern, okay? It wasn’t supposed to be a concern.”
“Because . . . why, exactly?” Kon asks. “Because I definitely would’ve . . . I dunno, soul-wrapped it or whatever, if it meant we were gonna inflict ourselves on some poor kid as parents.”
“Yeah, we’re gonna be totally terrible ones,” Dani agrees. “Turns out we’re kinda in love, though, so I guess the kid’s stuck with us.”
“. . . okay, no offense, but did you just decide that?” Kon asks, raising an eyebrow at her skeptically. “Because you’re pretty badass and all, but I really don’t think we’re there, no offense.”
“See, that was what I thought, but then the yetis diagnosed me with a literal love-child,” Dani says, making a face again. “So apparently we’re just both emotionally oblivious. Anyway, wanna get married or just live in sin? I’m leaning ‘married’ because then we get a honeymoon and I bet we could do an intergalactic one.”
“Oh, it’s Space Vegas or bust, boo.”
“Hell yeah.”

thinking about fairy aging in laoft
bell looked ten-ish around 25. Brian is about nine months older than Linda but they don't look it because she started around ten in appearance. Logan grew up at the same speed as Thomas which might be a changeling thing. Virgil has been an adolescent for a very long time even if you don't count the nap
so my question, or two questions actually:
how old were they when Brian 'caught up' to Linda in apparent age? and how did they feel about it? I'm sure it must have happened eventually, considering the disparity in lifetimes, but when? as kiddos, as teens, as adults?
and was there ever an awkward period where most of the boyfriend collection was becoming physically adults but Virgil continued to lag at teenager-shaped? baby face boyfriend to the extreme
the way im thinking about this is - imagine a tree
there is a rough median timeline of the growth of a tree. but the deviations from that median are far, far, FAR greater than that of an animal. a well trimmed apple tree will never get more then 2 ft high. a stunted or shaded tree might take two, three, four times as much time to grow. a tree may be cut back to the quick and have to regrow from roots even
this is not a one-to-one metaphor (most things that slow growth in plants are negative, this is not necessarily the case with fae) but the idea is that the maturity of a fae has more to do with their environment. virgil stayed basically the same age for hundreds of years because he had no peers or friends to influence him to grow or mature. bell grows linearly, if slower than a human, because she has siblings and cousins and theyre all trucking in line in the order they were born, using each other as references
in Linda and brians case Linda slows down hard when brian hits ten and she looks about 12-13. by Brian being 14, they look the same age, and they stay matched for a couple years. Brians 16th birthday in Contests was the first time someone who didnt know confused Brian for the older cousin.
and for virgil, less than you think because virgils very in his head in a lot of ways about being The Caretaker and so is considering himself very firmly The Oldest for a long time. he outgrows this, obviously, because its a bit of a reductive worldview and virgils not an idiot but its something it takes a while to root out of your subconscious.
so until LMP hit around mid-twenties Virgil is pretty solidly keeping ahead of all of them which is fast enough for a gentry (especially one as powerful as him - rapid maturation in children and adolescence is usually a sign of high stress) that the court found it baffling and borderline alarming.
and by the time LMP noticeabley outpace him he looks early thirties and LMP look 40+ and he thinks the trophy husband jokes are fucking hilarious.

WIP Wednesday Sentences
From my April 9th post here; some of Hidden Flowers for @wizisbored and @nonbinary-octopus, thanks!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He could hear Sho breathing - rough and quick - but if he didn’t answer, Kei was going to break- ‟I’m- I’m fine Kei.” Sho said, but Kei frowned - he had answered, but his voice was thin and too high. Kei rested a hand against the door, but Sho was - it seemed - all right; his heart and his breathing were too quick and he sounded strange, but he had answered. Kei pulled away, rubbing the side of his thumb over his lower lip, and paced across the room, then back before he’d thought about it. Water ran - the toilet filled - and Sho opened the door, stepping out and almost bumping into Kei. He rubbed his mouth, looking at Kei with wide eyes. Kei put a hand out, then drew back sharply as Sho flinched.

Yeah, no. We cannot
take on thirty-fucking-eight
mad alphabeavers.
Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
ALPHABEAVER ATTACK
Tumblr media
I was like "okay that's not great, but how many are there? Maybe we can take on one or two? Like, I assume the alphabeaver is a bit of a formidable foe, but one or two?"
No.
There are Thirty-Eight of them.
Tumblr media
I have twelve colonists. Nine adults, three of whom are incapable of violence.
Yeah, no. We cannot take on thirty-fucking-eight mad alphabeavers.
Luckily it's nighttime and everyone is already inside... I can tell them to stay inside.
Unfortunately... I zoomed out, and uh...
Tumblr media
I think they're leaving? I'm not sure. But they are unfortunately very close to the incoming alphabeaver pack.
There are ten of them. I don't think they have a much better chance than my colonists do. Hopefully they really are heading out...
