lets talk abt house and empathy. the general perception of house is that he's hypoempathetic and generally doesn't care about people. however i would argue very distinctly that he cares TOO much and feels TOO MUCH empathy!!
this is my second post in a row talking abt john house but THINK abt his childhood! they moved around constantly, so he likely never got a chance to make friends as a kid. his dad abused him and his mom let it happen. for a kid who cared so much about the people around him, that would kill him!!!! it's highly likely that he initially developed his "antisocial tendencies" as a protective mechanism so that people couldn't hurt him by leaving or by actually hurting him.
on top of that, he says that he became a doctor essentially because he saw a guy who was treated horribly and yet people still needed him when it came to medicine. it makes a lot of sense to me that a young greg house would feel deeply for that man AND see himself in him. he also talks about how the appeal of his job is solving puzzles - but there are lots of other jobs where that would work!!! he could have become a detective (acab but w/e), a computer scientist, etc etc. instead he chose a career where he SAVES people.
house doesn't talk to patients because he doesn't want them to become real to him, because then he'll care too much. a puzzle is a puzzle and a puzzle doesnt need feelings or morality, but when he has to come face to face with a patient, it becomes a situation where he can start to feel for them and care about them. this is commented on multiple times in the show but notably in the episode with the doctor in antarctica, who he cares very deeply about by the end.
i also firmly believe that house is autistic, like its nondebatable to me, and i think that he doesn't instinctively know how to read social cues, which is why he's so obsessed with patterns. he's memorized what emotions look like on other people, and he's memorized the typical behaviors of the people around him (e.g. wilson's ties, stacy's cross) and that's how he can read their emotions. if he doesn't connect to a patient he can't necessarily feel their emotions as strongly, he has no chance to learn their reactions!!

If you don't understand fancy stock market words because fancy stock market words are for people with money.
US stock market is doing this 📉 which is not good because Trump is starting tarrif wars for literally no reason and it's causing the people with money to be scared.
That's bad, obviously. But this is more than notifying you that Trump is tanking the stock market.
You see, Trump has the power to do this because he declared a state of National Emergency WAY BACK on January 20th
So he's like let's tarrif. I change my mind. DOUBLE TARRIF. Maybe. 25% TARRIF! Lol, was a joke. TARRIF. Which is what's causing uncertainty because tariffs are REALLY REALLY REALLY bad for the economy, but uncertainty is WORSE.
Now, congress could do something about this. They could overrule his national emergency. Checks and balances. More importantly, if Democrats force this, it would force Republicans to put their votes where their mouths are. Republicans HATE tariffs because it's so bad for business and it's seen as government over reach. If Democrats say "Let's put it to a vote go end this national emergency and stabilize our economy that's in freefall." The congress would have 15 days to put it to what SHOULD be a unanimous vote.
Except... Republicans slid in a last minute provision into a bill that effectively removes any ability that congress would have to over rule Trump's National Emergency.
Because they've declared all of the days of congress for the rest of the year is just "one really long calendar day". Effectively postponing the vote to overrule Trump's national emergency and ceding that power. Actually, effectively throwing up their hands and saying "that's not my problem now".
However, that's not the only law in Congress based on Calendar days
"The most notable feature of the CRA is its special set of parliamentary procedures for considering a joint resolution disapproving an agency's final rule. These procedures make it easier for Congress to pass a joint resolution of disapproval, particularly in the Senate. Perhaps most significantly, when a joint resolution of disapproval meets certain criteria, it cannot be filibustered in the Senate. In addition, when 20 calendar days have elapsed after the receipt and publication of a rule, a petition, signed by 30 Senators, can be presented on the floor to discharge a Senate committee of the further consideration of a disapproval resolution.5 Once the committee is discharged, any Senator can make a nondebatable motion to proceed to consider the disapproval resolution. Should a majority of the Senate vote to consider the disapproval resolution, debate on it is limited, and a final vote would be all but guaranteed."
I say Congress Democrats Malicious compliance their way to this. "You want to hold up our request to overrule the president's state of emergency by redefining a calendar day? Fine. Let's see how much of your shit we can hold up by using your rules on what a calendar day is."

The Cousins by Karen M. McManus
« Everybody has secrets. That's nondebatable. The only question is whether you're keeping your own, or someone else's »
🩵🤍
It was about time that I post this one, it has been resting in my gallery for a very long time now.
The Cousins is one of my favorite reads I've ever had. It was early summer, no school and the weather was absolutely perfect to just lie around the local swimming pool all day. It was just perfect!
And reading this book (in one sitting) made it an even better time. I loved the mystery, the plot twist, the coasty-vibes and all the character dynamics so so much!!
I recommend it to everyone as a fast-paced, lighthearted summer-read, that's just THE definition of a good time!

I know there's a lot of debate about copyright and LLM training and how that all works but it's so fucking vindicating when some techbro makes a dataset that is an actual, nondebatable copyright violation.

a peanut kind of faith
"assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'move from here to there,' and it will move." matt 17:20
a man of God - george washington carver. george credited divine inspiration for giving him ideas regarding how to perform experiments. "i always look forward to introductions as opportunities to learn something about myself …"
he continued: "years ago i went into my laboratory and said, 'dear Mr. Creator, please tell me what the universe was made for?' the Great Creator answered, 'you want to know too much for that little mind of yours. ask for something more your size, little man.' then i asked, 'please, Mr. Creator, tell me what man was made for.' again the Great Creator replied, 'you are still asking too much. cut down on the extent and improve the intent.' … so then i asked, 'please, Mr. Creator, will you tell me why the peanut was made?' 'that's better, but even then it's infinite. what do you want to know about the peanut?'"
'Mr. Creator, can i make milk out of the peanut?' 'what kind of milk do you want? good jersey milk or just plain boarding house milk?' 'good jersey milk.' and then the Great Creator taught me to take the peanut apart and put it together again. and out of the process have come forth all these products!"
on january 21, 1921, carver addressed the united states house ways and means committee. george expounded on the many potential uses of the peanut as a means to improve the southern economy. while scheduled for 10 minutes, he spoke for one hour and forty-five minutes, explaining the many food products that could be derived from peanuts…
the committee chairman asked carver: "dr. carver, how did you learn all of these things?" carver answered, "from an old book." "what book?" asked the chairman. carver replied, "the bible." the chairman inquired, "does the bible tell about peanuts?" "no, sir" carver replied, "but it tells about the God who made the peanut. i asked Him to show me what to do with the peanut, and He did."
"God is going to reveal to us things He never revealed before if we put our hands in His. no books ever go into my laboratory. the thing i am to do and the way are revealed to me the moment i am inspired to create something new. without God to draw aside the curtain, i would be helpless. only alone can i draw close enough to God to discover His secrets."
"God cannot use you as He wishes until you come into the fullness of His Glory. do not get alarmed, my friend, when doubts creep in. that is old satan. pray, pray, pray. oh, my friend, i am praying that God will come in and rid you entirely of self so you can go out after souls right, or rather have souls seek the Christ in you. this is my prayer for you always."
"my beloved friend, keep your hand in that of the Master, walk daily by His side, so that you may lead others into the realms of true happiness, where a religion of hate, (which poisons both body and soul) will be unknown, having in its place the 'golden rule' way, which is the 'Jesus Way' of life, will reign supreme … then, we can walk and talk with Jesus momentarily, because we will be attuned to His will and wishes, thus making the creation story of the world nondebatable as to its reality."
"we are finite, surrounded and often filled with hate. we can only understand the infinite as we loose the finite and take on the infinite. thank God i love humanity; complexion doesn't interest me one single bit. the man is unwise who does not cultivate in every manly way the friendship and goodwill of his next-door neighbor, whether he be black or white. great men cultivate love and only little men cherish a spirit of hatred."
"it is now long ago that i learned this lesson from general samuel chapman armstrong, and resolved that i would permit no man, no matter what his color might be, to narrow and degrade my soul by making me hate him. with God's help, i believe that i have completely rid myself of any ill feeling toward the southern white man for any wrong that he may have inflicted upon my race. i am made to feel just as happy now when i am rendering service to southern white men as when the service is rendered to a member of my own race. i pity from the bottom of my heart any individual who is so unfortunate as to get into the habit of holding race prejudice."
“the son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself." eze 18:20
in 1939, george washington carver was awarded the roosevelt medal, with the declaration: "to a scientist humbly seeking the guidance of God and a liberator to men of the white race as well as the black.
human need is really a great spiritual vacuum which God seeks to fill … with one hand in the hand of a fellow man in need and the other in the hand of Christ, He could get across the vacuum …
many thanks to william j. federer for his inexhaustible research in this matter.
we all need to travail that "vacuum" of space. satan is employing all his tactics of warfare to distract and instigate hatred and confusion among the races. oft times it is extremely difficult to "turn the other cheek" but we have the commandment to do so. you see, "if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." matt 6:15 and which of us do not have trespasses that need forgiven? i would venture none! he who is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone. "if we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us." 1 john 1:8

Only in America does someone say, “ I don’t go to the doctor unless I feel like I’m dying” with a sense of pride.
But who can blame them. When you can’t afford healthcare, of course you convince yourself that you don’t need it.
The reality check is, that statement is like saying I’m not taking my car to the mechanic until there’s smoke seeping from the hood. Nobody does that. Our cars get check ups, oil changes, tire rotations etc. You don’t just ride until the wheels fall off.
But apparently our bodies don’t deserve the same courtesy or investment. Ironically a car can be replaced. A body can’t.
And waiting until the last minute to die from something that could have been addressed, prevented, or treated a long time ago shouldn’t be reserved to those with wealth in 2022.
Nothing ever changes tho no matter how many people scream it from the roof tops.

There should be some kind of sympathy or empathy for someone you love when they’re hurt. You should be able to sympathize with your partner’s suffering. When they hurt, you hurt for them and with them.

Caps for emphasis, I'm not actually screaming or feel like screaming
also very disappointed no nb Riley, like, if the right were going to make a big deal about how the gay agenda was going to be in this sequel, atleast go with the damn hype, people are going to hate watch it for it anyways
YOU MIGHT AS WELL MAKE THE END CREDITS WITH THE BURNED CARPET NOT BE THE BURNED FUCKING CARPET, OR, I DONT KNOW, SOMETHING ACTUALLY DEEP OR WEIRD OR SECRET
"So, hey big bud, what is Riley's deepest secret?" Joy asks to Deepest secret of secrets
"We tried to pirate a song and saw alot more than we bargained for"
BUT NO, APPARENTLY THE ABSOLUTE DEEPDISH QUEER CODING OF THIS MOVIE WAS BLUE BALLED! I don't hinge on a fictional teenager's gender or sexual identity (even as a queer teenager) for my enjoyment of most media (I'm very easy to appease as long as you can distract my brain or get me compelled to dissect it), but seriously, what the hell man, that's JUST A LAME FUCKING DEEP DARK SECRET!!!
NOT A SINGLE HINT OF QUEER IN THIS MOVIE THAT WASNT SUBTEXT WITH VAL
THE WALL OF CRUSHES: ALL MEN
THE POINTED CRUSH ON THAT FINAL FANTASY NOCKOFF FROM DISGUST
YEARS OF PEOPLE BOTH PROGRESSIVE AND ON THE RIGHT DEBATING DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION THAT WE COULD ANTICIPATE IN A SEQUEL TO THE FIRST FILM BECAUSE RILEY HAS MALE AND FEMALE PRESENTING EMOTIONS, AND EVERYONE ELSE HAS JUST FEMALE OR MALE (PLUS THEIR HAIR) DEPENDING ON THEIR GENDER
Only for it not to be given, and for it to be dumped in our faces in a post credits scene
I don't like to use the term queerbating, but what else can pretty much describe this? They had the right wanting to watch to see if there was "perversion" in a kids' movie. They had the progressives and supporters watching to see if Disney and pixar were finally brave enough to put it right in front of us, to speak it into canon, as nondebatable fact.
But no, never, instead, they rigged in both sides and gave nothing to either, no satisfaction of being right for the right (pun, and they probably will still say something about this movie) or representation for the supporters.
I loved this movie, I loved the way they depicted anxiety as a person with social anxiety and maybe even schoolphobia. But, as a queer teen who grew up on the first film. Yeah, a bit disappointing, did it hinge my enjoyment? Not that much, but it's still important.
Let's not forget how impossibly fantastic this movie did at the box office, over $439 million USD as I'm writing this, it's been out for only six days, 6.
And they totally should have had some sort of content warning (or whatever the hell) for that panic attack scene, I was on the edge of my seat tearing (tearing as in tear apart) on the inside waiting, just waiting, and although I think it was a perfect (of course everyone's experiences with panic attacks are different) general demonstration of what it feels like and looks like to have one, i know for a fact many have been triggered by it. And you can't exactly avoid a scene like that in the theaters unless you scadaddle to the bathroom, and even then, how do you know when the scene is over? There's overall a lot to talk about in regards to this movie
Remember to check IMDB's parent guide for any content concerns if you have triggers.
Don't mind me, just watched inside out two, totally not crying, totally not forgiving myself further for the past present and future, currently evaluation my social anxiety disorder and personifying it even further than I do with years of self awareness and months of therapy, don't mind me at all

I don’t mind at all that people perceive my personality to be completely revolved around being a Nicki Minaj fan. To be quite honest, they don’t deserve to get anywhere past surface level with me. However, I do mind that people who don’t like Nicki Minaj want to have debates and discussions with me about it.
