2/100 days of productivity - may 11th, 2021
Today, I:
Woke up at 9 a.m. and had breakfast
Studied a bit more on the cardiology clinical case for discussion in class (subject: cardiology)
Had the clinical case discussion - and I was brave enough to keep my camera on during it, though I didn't speak up once (cause the professor had asked to see us :( and only 2 or 3 more people turned it on)
Did some notes on my biosafety class from yesterday
Watched a recorded class on coronary revascularization (subject: cardiovascular and thoracic surgery)
Wrote a report on the coronary revascularization surgery class
Watched a recorded class on semiology for inferior member vascular diseases (subject: angiology)
Read the Theseus chapter in "Percy Jackson's Greek Heroes)

22 questions
So I got tagged at this game by @hecho-a-mano and it looks fun, so let’s try it out :D
RULES: simply answer the following 22 q’s and then tag 22 (or however many) people you’d love to get to know more!
Name/Nickname: My name is Mariana, but people usually call my Mari ou Mary
Zodiac sign: Aries, though I usually don’t identify at all with the sign descriptions
Height: 162 cm or 5′4.
Hogwarts House: Ravenclaw, as far as I know
Last thing I googled: The movie “Only the Brave” cause it was passing on my tv
Favourite musician/s: Don’t really have a favorite artists, but I listen mostly kpop, pop, pop-rock, rock and some indie....I guess I have been listening mostly to Day6 and BTS, Lauv, a couple of songs from Florence and the Machine, Halsey + songs that I recently added on my ipod (because I basically stick to the recently added list)
Last song I listened to: Not sure if it was the last song I listened to, but the last one on my ipod is Bleeding Love by Leona Lewis
Song stuck in my head: Truth hurts by Lizzo (because of the Someone Great movie trailer)
Followers: 241 (but I also have a studyblr account @notesbymari with 52 followers so far *just a little bit of propaganda*)
Following: 211 so far, I’m always following poeple, but I try to update the list from time to time to remove the accounts that haven’t been active for a long time (like 6 months and so on)
Amount of sleep: During the weekdays I try to get 7 hours a night, but I usually get only 6 or 6 and a half....Which is really bad because I need around 9 hours of sleep to actually function at college
Lucky number: don’t have one
What I’m wearing: My pajamas (really oversized and baggy red tshirt + a stripped water green pants)
Dream Job: Theoretically is a doctor (didn’t figure out my desired specialty yet), but I want to do so many things that I really don’t know what the future holds for me
Dream Trip: Uhh lots of countries, right now mostly Japan and South Korea....wanted to take my grandparents to Japan (if you don’t know, I have japanese ancestry, my great-grandparents were from Japan), but they wouldn’t really tolerate such a long trip.....
Favourite food: My mom’s beef strogonoff (it’s originally a russian recipe, but in this case it’s the adapted version we make in Brazil)
Instruments: I had piano classes from age 5 to 11, but things were so busy with high school and then college that I haven’t really sat and played more than a couple of notes for years now....Also had 1 year of guitar lessons, didn’t really practice it and already forgot most of it (and now I have a guitar that I bought on impulse because of the classes, and it’s just laying around the house being useless)
Languages: My native language is Portuguese...I consider myself fluent in English (though I still freeze when speaking with an actual foreign person...but it’s getting better), and I can get by with understanding spoken and written Spanish (just don’t ask me to write or speak Spanish)...Currently I’m learning Korean, and I plan to learn Japanese.
Favourite song/s: Don’t have one right now
Random fact: I really want to experience being really independent, driving myself places, living alone and getting a cat, but at the same moment I think about this I already get absolutely terrified of not living with my parents....not because I don’t think I would be able to live on my own, but because I’m terrified something will happen to them because I wasn’t there at the time
Aesthetic: Sweatshirts, erva mate tea, cold weather, glasses, the smell of grass during rain, a cozy duvet with 3 or 4 pillows
Sooo I’m going to tag some followers of mine and some people I follow, I think would be nice to get to know you guys (actually most follow me at my studyblr side blog, but whatever....I would like to know pretty much everyone of them, but I can’t tag all of them here, so feel free to adhere to this game)

Hi everyone! I’ve seen a lot of these intro posts going around and decided to make my own just to introduce myself!
🌼 about me 🌼
-My name is Sarah, she/her, I am 28 years old, have two bachelor’s degrees and getting ready to start my master’s in clinical mental health counseling. English is my native tongue, but I am conversational in French as well.
-(COVID allowing) I will hopefully be teaching English in Korea the spring semester of 2021! So I’m spending any free time that I have learning what Korean that I can in preparation for that.
-I have a few chronic illnesses that prevent me from studying as much as I’d like to, so if I’m gone for a few days please don’t worry. 😊 I’m probably just resting up from the other half of my day.
🌼 why a studyblr? 🌼
-I had a thought to use tumblr as a space to organize all my resources, but after making a blog I discovered that many others shared the same thought as well!
-I plan on using this mainly to help me study Korean, but I might share some of my art studies as well.
🌼 any goals? 🌼
-To continuously use this space to organize my research and notes. I am VERY unorganized when it comes to organizing multiple projects, so keeping everything logged away into this one platform will be highly beneficial.
-To becomes at least minimally conversational by the time I move to Korea. ✨ I had a Korean pen pal as a child for several year who really helped to get me into Korean culture and music. It would honestly be so great to be able to meet her while I’m over there and actually converse with her in Korean. ✨
-To have fun! Learning a language is a privilege I don’t take for granted, but I also know that personally I learn a language much faster when I make sure to keep the whole process enjoyable!
🌼 cool blogs to follow 🌼
I honestly don’t know many since I just started here, but I’ll tag those I follow and find to be helpful for now!

today i decided to start again a productivity challenge! this time i’m gonna attempt to do the 100 days of productivity challenge
---- rant ahead ----
due to being quarantined for 8 months, family issues, and the way bigger workload uni has imposed on us during online learning (like squishing a 22-week long subject in 10 weeks just because the professors want to, even though the online semester lasts around 14 weeks), i’ve been lacking motivation all year long.
we finally have the keys to our new home, but it’s not legally ours yet, cause the current owner never finished the paperwork to register the house on the city hall’s records, and the city hall has been stalling to finish the paperwork for 5 months (the deadline was in 3 months) without any explanation.
plus, we discovered a lot of problems on the house, including on things that we had actually really liked and that contributed to us choosing this house - the bathrooms were good, there was wood-flooring, closets for everyone. now we’re gonna renovate 2 bathrooms (one by choice, the other by necessity), and we found out there are termites in the wood from a whole floor + a few doors and all the closets, so we’re gonna have to put new tiles all over one floor, the garage and the backyard, change a few doors, review all the windows, and build new closets...
so not only we have been waiting for 5 months to actually sign the papers for the house to be ours, but now we have 2-3 months of renovations ahead before we can move in, and we have to spend a ton of money fixing a house that is not even legally ours yet (that or wait for the paperwork and move in almost in 2022)
and, to top all of that, there is the living arrangments with my grandma. after 4, almost 5 months of sleeping in my grandma’s house every other day, alternating with my mom (which affected us greatly, cause our family time was always at night, and suddenly we stopped having time together at night for 4 months, the morale here at home was really low, and mom and dad fought all the time), my grandma accepted to sleep a few nights here at home. at first it was only one night, but now we have convinced her to stay 3 nights a week. it’s been around 4 months since she started to sleep here, she’s been staying in my room and i’ve been staying with my sister in hers.
the thing is, now we know that we still have 2-3 months before we go to the new house, but my mom doesn’t thing my grandma will accept coming to sleep here everyday until then (she basically already lives here, we spend the whole day here, but mom has to go with her at night to sleep in her house and at each morning for her to shower there.
having to carry my stuff (sleeping stuff and study stuff) in and out of the room everyday was killing me emotionally, specially since i have online classes, i stay up until late doing stuff, and my grandma goes to sleep relatively early....so i was already willing to just move out of my room, even though having my own space is really important for my mental health....now i finally moved definitely to my sister’s room (my stuff is still in mine, but all the sleeping and studying stuff is in my sister’s), and i’ve been trying to have good days more often
---- end of rant ----
please ignore all of that if you want to, i just need to complain to someone and get it off my chest. this was all for me to list all the reasons i’ve been able to do nothing productive the past few weeks.
on a good note (and also a time-consuming one), i adopted a cat! it was kind of on impulse, cause on christmas my cousin suddenly appeared with a cat for her, and at that point i was in such a bad place emotionally and in my mental health, that seeing her with a cat (which has been my dream for a few years now) kind of broke me a little....
a week later my aunt said that the lady that gave her the cat had another female one, and i took her! totally on impulse, it was not the best time to adopt a cat (with all the house and living arrangments stuff), but she’s here already for a week and a half, and we’re loving it! this was the main reason for me to move out of my room to my sister’s, cause i’m raising her with me, and it would be too stressful for her and for me if we were to change rooms everyday (which would include move the cat’s stuff all the time, and that could confuse her)
her name is Miso (as in the japanese fermented soy paste), and here she is in the photo! she’s almost 2 months and a half.

______________
january 12th 2021, tuesday - 1/100 days of productivity
now to the actual productivity challenge! today i:
studied one unit from an online course i’m taking on anemia
watched an episode of “legend of fei”
read 58 pages of “ink”, by amanda sun
studied a topic on week 3 of coursera’s “sistematic reviews and meta-analysis” course, by UNICAMP
did a sketch of what i want my closet to look like

2020 reads (aka quarantine reads)

i finally read enough books in a year to actually be excited to do this :D though quarantining (and this whole year, to be honest, ever since 2019 december for my family) has been awful, and due to family issues my mental health is falling apart, as far as my hobbies go, this year was amazing, since i was able to finally go back to them
i used to be an avid reader, but ever since i started studying to enter med school and actually started med school, i barely read from lack of time and pure exhaustion during my little free time. so for the junior and senior years, and the first 2 years of med school, i barely did any of the hobbies that i cherished so much in the past.
this quarantine i was able to go back to reading, painting, watching k-dramas, studying languages, and more over.
this year i read 21 books and 4 graphic-novels/manga. last time i read this much books (not counting graphic novels) was 2015. last year, 2019, i read 6 books. so this is a big deal for me.
most of these are quarantine reads, the only ones i read before quarantine began was crown of midnight and the graphic novels.
alas, let me stop ranting. in the first picture are my physical books, and in my second picture a collage of the covers of the ebooks i read. below, i listed them out (in no particular order), just because
new reads
the song of achilles, by madeline miller
a little life, by hanya yanagihara
pachinko, by min jin lee
get a life, chloe brown, by talia hibbert
hungry hearts, by multiple authors, edited by elsie chapman
these ghosts are family, by maisy card

queen of shadows, by sarah j. maas
the assassin’s blade, by sarah j. maas

1/100 days of productivity - may 10th, 2021
Hello ;D
I started my 5th semester of med school (I'm officialy in 3rd year yay) last week, and I'm already losing it.
I've been trying to be really organized (again) this semester, I usually already am, but this time everything is online and I have 14 subjects, compared to my 4th semester, which I also took online but in two parts, with 8 subjects.
Since everything is online and you don't have to watch classes live, professors send us activites and summaries to write to account for our presence and part of the grades. So it's a lot of things to do. I've gotten at least 3 forms of organizing eveything, a google docs with every link and a summary of the class form of evaluation, a google sheets with the syllabus of every class, plus a notebook with the list of every class and homework I have for the week.
In an attempt to keep myself motivated, I'll try (again) doing the challenge :D
So, today I:
Ditched a class I had at 7h30 a.m. causa I was so so tired and had a long day of classes ahead (until 8h30 p.m.)
Woke up at 8h30 a.m., had breakfast and did my skincare routine
Had a class on biosafety for biological hazard risks (subject: biosafety)
Watched a recorded class on anesthesiologist's pre-surgical evaluation of a patient (subject: anesthesiology)
Did homework on anesthesiology
Watched a recorded class on cardiovascular risk factors
Studied a cardiology clinical case for tomorrow's discussion
Read a bit of "Percy Jackson's Greek Heroes"
Started "Rhapsodic", by Laura Thalassa

07.05.2020
My day wasn’t as productive as I hoped so, since I didn’t do the things I planned for today, but nonetheless I accomplished a few things :D
finished studying the カタカナ module in my japanese online course.
studied 3 chinese lessons, as intended by the course’s lesson plan.
reorganized the books from my dad’s home office.
ordered some mini fried coxinhas and bolinhas de queijo that I was craving for the last 3 months (cause I used to eat them at the movies, but we’ve been quarantined for almost 4 months now).
watched “it’s okay not to be okay/psycho but it’s okay” newest episode.
My sister (her langblr is @ganbattetinypenguin) made me some doce de leite latte (dulce de leche latte), that I got to drink in this really cute bottle that I always forget to use) ;D

pfizer - 1st dose
I got vaccinated this saturday!! I got the first dose of Pfizer (here were actually vaccinating with CoronaVac/SinoVac and Oxford/AstraZeneca, but a few Pfizer batches arrived this week).
Here follows a really really long rant about vaccination in my country:
Here in my city vaccination is really delayed. First there is the fact that the federal govt. failed to buy vaccines in the correct schedule and quantity (courtesy of our sorry excuse of a human being and president, who has been denying the pandemic from the very start, pushing against restrictive measures and making propaganda of chloroquine as the cure for covid, despite scientific evidences of it not being effective). Then, our city's vaccination schedule is completely late and disorganized.
The vaccination of elders is pretty organized and progressing fairly smoothly. But, the vaccination of health and essential workers is really messy, there are a lot of essential workers from covid hospitals that haven't been vaccinated yet, plus health professionals (I mean, there was a nurse from one of our main covid hospitals trying to get vaccinated the same day as I did). For health courses students, they have been vaccinating only the ones that are actively in the hospitals, not the ones that are on remote and online activities, rightfully so.
This group of remote activities students include me + 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th year med students. So we were not really supposed to get the vaccine now. I will start a on-site internship this year, which then would need me to get vaccinated, but I have no idea when it will start, it may be only the end of year (so I would have to get vaccinated then, when it's time for me to start).
However, since the vaccination is so disorganized, the city hall and health govt. department took a batch of Pfizer from the super freezer, which then has 5 days to use until expiration, and failed to apply all of them in time. It was going to expirate on this saturday, so on friday night they contated the course directors to send us (2nd, 3rd and 4th years) to get vaccinated so the vaccines weren't wasted.
And so we went. Except that they also called a bunch of other health courses + health professionals + pregnant and post-partum mothers + elders + workers of a big health insurance company. So we ended up waiting 3 hours in line to get the vaccine and they had to open another batch to make do for everyone (and still there were people who didn't get it that day).
There was a problem of communication in the govt. public ministry and the health secretary of my state, so they suspended our vaccination later in the day (but I had already gotten mine). Plus there was a lot of havoc on the vaccination of the health insurance company, cause most of them were administrative workers that had no contact with patients or were doing remote working from home (so, totally not a priority of vaccination, not when there are health workers and essential workers still not vaccinated).
End of rant!
Just wanted to rant about how messy everything is, it makes me so mad, cause we have a really good vaccination program in Brazil and have a public health system, if only the govt. had done things right we could be honestly an international reference for covid vaccination, like we are for other vaccines.
PLUS, my university has been developing for the last few months a completely national vaccine, with a high efficacy rate (like, about the same efficiency of Pfizer and Moderna, above 90%), using only national products for the production, and with a cost of production of 10 reais per vaccine (which is less than 2 dollars). However, since no pharmaceutical company want to produce such a cheap vaccine, despite the fact that we would be able to produce it without having to import products, there is no financing for the vaccine. They already finished pre-clinical trials with animals, but they need financing to go to clinical phase 2 trials. So yeah, that sucks. I hate it here.

09.04.2020 - friday, september 4th
Today was a really productive day!
These past few weeks I was in a procrastination slump, and had no motivation to do anything. Problems at home have been reaching a certain exploding point in my patience level, but I can’t say anything to my mom cause she gets sad and she’s already under so much stress (cause basically I’m way better at keeping things to myself and handling this stressful situation than my dad, and he ends up getting cranky all day long everyday, which affects my mom - probably not my best way at coping with the current situation, but that will have to work for now), and nothing to my grandma causa I don’t have that kind of liberty with her (plus she’ll get offended and misunderstand everything).
I’m really tired of feeling like I have to walk on eggshells all the time and like I have to be nice and happy and pleasant all the time in my own house. I know this is mostly because of the current situation (stuck at home all day everyday, with suddenly one more person living with us, plus not having our new house yet and having to sleep and spend time at my grandma’s house all the time cause she doesn’t want to sleep at our house), but still, I just wish I’d get used to this sooner, so I can stop being so frustraded all the time.
All that resulted in me dropping all my language courses and other courses for a few weeks, and basically doing the bare minimum for my online college classes (just because the activities have deadlines and are worth part of my grade). However, I’ve been trying to slowly go back to my studies so I can get a little bit of my life in order again, on my terms. So here’s what I did today:
watched a class on ovarian diseases - I should’ve watched this last week, but again, I was doing the bare minimum.
watched a class on intestinal diseases
did 2 modules for this basic html couse I’m taking
did 1 module for a basic excel 2016 course I’m taking
wrote down the notes from the 4 chinese lessons I did yesterday
did the exercises for a korean lesson I did on monday
drank 2 liters of water! I have a really hard time remembering to drink water at home, I’m better at it when I’m in college
enrolled for the admission exam for a hematology academic league - though I can’t get in it yet, just on my 5th semester of med school...but I can try now, and if someone from 5th semester or up gives up on a spot I might have a chance!
answered a quiz on ovarian and endometrial diseases

studyblr 2020 quarantine challenge
So I totally forgot to keep posting everyday this challenge and I was too lazy to take the pictures, so I’m gonna post it only weekly, like I did for the first week.
I'm so so late for this challenge, things have been hectic here at home, my grandpa is really sick and his health really took a turn for the worse (not covid) so we're just trying to take care of him the best we can without having to admit him to the hospital (now with the covid pandemic, the hospitals cut down all of visitations, and they wouldn't let my grandma stay with him because of the risks of covid and her age.... so we're trying to keep him at home so my grandma can stay with him, staying away from her would only worsen his health)
Week 2
Monday, March 30th - Take a picture of your desk/study space
One of my favorite places to study! I like to study in my bed too, but here my back is more comfortable and I have more space to put my books and pens and stuff, even though it is not very big and I could use a lot more space.

Tuesday, March 31st - Take a picture of the book you are currently reading
Just finished re-reading Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas. I really wanted to read Heir of Fire now, but if I keep on reading all the books of this series one after another, after I finish all of them I wouldn’t be able to read another author’s book for a while.... So I thought I would give a try on Night Film, by Marisha Pessl, heard great things about it (my sister really liked it and gave it 5 stars, and she’s quite picky when ranking the books she read).

Wednesday, April 1st - Take a picture of your most colourful notes
Didn’t have time to take a picture as I’m spending most of my afternoons in my grandma’s house, but anyways my notes in this semester haven’t been as colorful as the ones from other years, and I didn’t have time to look for my older notes to get a really colorful one.
Thursday, April 2nd - Take a picture of the pens/highlighters that you could not live without
For colored pens, I keep switching the ones I use every semester between some brands I have at home (sometimes bismark, stabilo, glitter gel pens, ballpoint colored pens), so don’t really have a favorite one.
I think the only pen that is a complete must have in my pencil case is the BIC crystal fine 0.8mm blue pen (I have a lot of those, been using them since middle school)...I’ve tried a lot of other ballpoint 7mm tip pens from other models and brands, but they always end up having flaky ink, the tint fades out with use, or the writing stops being as smooth as before.... This is the only one that I almost have no problems with (there’s always one or two of these that do all of that as well, but usually is just a matter of bad luck, they’re most of the times flawless).

Friday, April 3rd - Take a picture of the view outside your window
Not very exciting, I know, but I can't complain, at least I get the sunlight throughout all of the afternoon shining down on my bed :)

Saturday, April 4th - Take a picture of a meal you’ve cooked or something you’ve baked
Carrot cake! Recipe by my grandma.

Sunday, April 5th - Take a picture of some of your art or doodles
Don’t have any recent art or doodles really, and I was too lazy to look up for my old art (also didn’t want to show art that was made ages ago)... I’ve been trying to catch up and go back to drawing during this quarantine, I’m planning to do some canvas paintings of my dogs, but haven’t gone much farther than drawing the drafts on paper.

monday, july 20th 2020 -14/30 days of productivity
Enrolled for two online classes, on epidemiology and the medical ethic code
My chinese textbooks finally arrived! So instead of moving on according to the lesson schedule, I'll pause for a few days to review everything I've studied so far and to do the exercises from the workbook. The first 3 modules were just on pinyin and had no exercises, so I did until the 4th module, tomorrow I'll review the 5th, and then I can continue from where I stopped.
Did a workout again, as I wasn't too sore from yesterday (but now I'll certainly be sore tomorrow). Did the Chloe Ting warm up and the Joanna Soh low impact workout again.
Did a yellow clay mask (though the color was off, I wonder if it is actually gold clay and they sold it as yellow).
Watched an episode of "Strangers from Hell"
Read a bit of "The Song of Achilles".

wednesday, july 22nd 2020 - 16/30 days of productivity
Watched a spanish class, on asking people’s jobs and the grammar of words’ gender.
Did 2 classes on koreanthis is the last module from the level 1 course, and it’s on dating. Already wrote down my notes and did the exercises.
Finished the 5th module of japanese, the last 2 classes were on adverbs and a dialogue analysis. Now I’m gonna review everything I’ve learned before going forward.
Reviewed everything I've studied so far in chinese and did all the exercises from the workbook from this part.... Tomorrow I'll finally be able to move on accordingly to schedule.
Worked out again, the Chloe Ting warm up routine and a 12min workout :D I’m gonna go back to taking this medicine that is supposed to help me in my weight loss (it acts by controlling the levels of glicose in my blood, so it really helps with my insulin resistance). I had already taken this one, and it helped at the time, but I wasn’t really comitted at this journey and gained all the weight back.
Enrolled in another class :D my course coordinators have finally spoken up and said they will allow us to enroll in classes with confliting schedules (since the presence in the class won’t be counted by watching the live class, but by submitting the activities they give us, given the difficulty some students have at getting a good internet and computer access for the live classes).
Watched an episode of "Strangers from Hell"
