Sylus and Caleb are my pookies, but I always thought the drastic differences between how they treat mc to be lowkey ironic. Sylus is always pushing mc and letting her discover new limits to herself, stoking the fiery attitude that dwells within her, and indulging in her reckless behaviours so they can be partners in crime and work together beautifully.
Meanwhile Caleb has a more sheltered attitude towards mc (currently). He’s always trying to reel her back and bring her back to him, to make her lean on him, let him take care of her. He has difficulty coming to terms with mc having grown into a strong independent woman, because to him she’s still that little five apples tall pipsqueak who scraped her knee and cried for his help.

“Spontaneous human combustion?”
“Scully.”
Why did he say her name as if she just took all her clothes off unexpectedly.
“Dear diary, today my heart lept when Agent Scully suggested spontaneous human combustion.”
Uh huh buddy we noticed

“hold” - Jegulus microfic - @into-the-jeggyverse - 488 words
this, but make it jegulus (i tried to get it as close to the original as possible)
Remus is sitting in an armchair doubled over with laughter. Sirius has fallen out of his chair and is cackling on the floor with tears in his eyes from laughing so hard. Regulus is sitting on the couch trying his best to stay composed. And James in standing in the middle of the room with more passion and fire in his eyes than Regulus has ever seen.
“Hold on! Hold on! Hold on!” James is shouting.
“James—” Regulus tries to calmly interrupt.
“HOLD ON!” James looks pointedly at Regulus and his eyes look like they’re going to literally pop out of his head. “Her sister was a witch, right?” Regulus is trying so hard to hold back his laughter. “And what was her sister? A princess! The Wicked Witch of the East, Reg.” James is yelling, not unkindly just very passionately, looking directly at Regulus and nodding his head aggressively to emphasize every point.
James starts pacing in genuine distress. Sirius is rolling on the floor holding his stomach and laughing so hard his entire body is shaking. Remus has his hands over his mouth, which is doing absolutely nothing to contain his laughter.
Regulus stands up to meet James in the middle of the room. “I’m gonna stab him.” He mumbles under his breath, which makes Sirius laugh even harder—if that’s even possible.
James whips around to face Regulus. “You’re gonna looks at me and you’re gonna tell me that I’m wrong? Am I wrong?” James asks emphatically.
And the thing is—James is, in fact, very wrong. “It’s my favorite—” Regulus tries to interject but can’t even get a word in.
“She wore a crown, and she came down in a bubble, Reg!” And that proves absolutely nothing.
Regulus knows he’ll never get James to listen to him. “I’m not fighting with you.” He shakes his head, chuckling fondly.
James makes his way out of the living room. “Grow up!” He says over his shoulder.
“I’m not fighting with you.” Regulus says again.
“Grow up.” James seems to be losing steam as he leaves the room.
“Get educated!” Regulus yells then flops down on the couch and finally lets his laughter out.
Eventually Regulus, Sirius and Remus’ laugher fades into soft chuckles as they calm down and take several deep breaths to compose themselves.
It’s a few minutes later when James appears in the doorway with a sheepish look on his face—that Regulus thinks is adorable. He slowly makes his way over to the couch and sits down beside Regulus. He’s quiet for a few moments then turns slightly to look at Regulus.
“I’m not really mad.” James says in a small voice. “And you know I love you, right?”
Regulus chuckles fondly and takes James’ face in his hands. “Yes, I know you love me, Jamie.” He leans in to kiss James softly then pulls back the tiniest bit. “But you’re still wrong.” Regulus whispers against James lips.

hot take but it’s incredibly hypocritical to tell people to get over steve and randy not being in the musical because they weren’t “important characters” but simultaneously turn around and bitch and moan that people don’t think ace and bev are real characters. you’re not better than anyone else just because “well I don’t get mad over the erasure of steve and randy because they weren’t important mmyes hmhmhm” like having a superiority complex the size of the fucking sun isn’t a flex 😭
(also biased opinion but steve and randy might not have had much screen time but they were still so so so important. randy was the one who broke through to ponyboy. randy was the one who carried on bob’s name and was able to tell the reader and pony the real reason behind bobs action. randy was the one who gave that heart to heart to ponyboy when he needed it. randy was marcia’s boyfriend. randy was bobs best friend. steve is soda’s best friend, but he’s so much more than that. he’s scared of cops but still ran over to dally with broken ribs just to try and save him. steve was the only one who cried when dally died, and he was the only one who cried when johnny died. steve’s pony’s frenemy, he’s great with cars and is the only one with a remotely healthy relationship. he fights alongside everyone else, he fights for his friends, he’s a part of the gang. the “they weren’t important to the story” thing is so stupid. it’s okay to not like them or whatever but don’t deny that they had a huge part in the story.)
#gonna be biased but i HATEEEEE how they gave randy’s character to cherry#hate it#because her being morally grey was a huge part of her character—she feels so watered down looking back#also once again clarifying this isn’t addressing the whole fandom just some of yall#would’ve loved to see the pony and steve beef in the musical#also i don’t wanna see any “B-BuT tHeY cAnT fIt TheSe cHarAcTerS iNtO a MuSicAl BecUz ItS tOo ShOrt!”#but they were able to add filler background characters (which isn’t a bad thing! at all! but it’s the principle of the thing)#also the movie was an hour shorter and was able to fit it in#so…#anyway now i’m just being a bitch#the outsiders#steve randle#randy adderson#idk this bugs me#i respect that not everyone sees them as major characters cause they’re not#i’ll admit they’re not major characters#but they still we’re important to the story#you can’t deny that#and whatever importance you wanna give to these background characters go right ahead i’m not stopping you#but why should you be the only one allowed to have an opinion while everyone else is just “being annoying”#i genuinely don’t get it#like i’m sorry but ace and bev and all those other guys serve literally nothing to the story#aside from bev jumping two bit but that was already canonically done by other socs so they just gave his attacker a name#the fact they replaced steve with two bit of all characters is so annoying like no!! steve is sodas best friend!!#like give them whatever lore you want but at the end of the day they really didn’t serve anything to the story#not saying you can’t let them serve a point in the story but like…they canonically don’t serve much to the plot#not on the level steve and randy did#argue with the wall ion care#if you wanna argue steve and randy aren’t important then tell me what ace and bev do to be

Since I’ve seen multiple people unclear on this in posts/comments today, thought I’d do my tiny, two-cent part to reiterate that
Original fiction is absolutely allowed on AO3
And the new TOS spotlight is in no way refuting or changing that.
Tumblr media
If you’re posting it on AO3, odds are it’s drawing on fannish tropes, conventions, and/or paradigms, even if the plot and characters and whatever else are your own.
What they don’t want on AO3 are things that aren’t even works, like fic lists or prompts or reaction live-blogging.

Veilguard’s lack of identity as a game and Rook’s lack of an ownership over their own story is so interesting and insulting for the latter part.
With the lack of identity as a game it comes from the devs focusing more on giving all of that to the factions then to our actual faction that we spend the entire game working in which is the veilguard. They get symbols and unique armour and we get to spend the entire time getting lore drops about Solas. When back to Origins it was about your character becoming a grey warden and that united the games identity, 2 is about Kirkwall so the symbol of the city is meaningful and iconic representing your hawke’s journey and obviously the Inquisition has its own symbol for an organisation your character is the head of.
Rook doesn’t get some uniting motif to attach to their story because they don’t really get to connect to their world. Now a big reason that is because the game is all visuals and cool moments and no world building that requires depth or complexity. Another reason is that the game was born out of the ashes of another so the world doesn’t actually belong to what the actual game we got is about. As a result there’s no actual world for Rook to connect to except the factions but again the factions aren’t Rook’s story they’re their past and the story of their companions. I find this interesting because it's a pretty basic concept that you want your game to have an identity. And all three other games focused on creating one so Veilguard not having this strong identity makes it feel like its very actively missing something.
Rooks journey then is also both disconnected from the actual game that is happening and also actively written to discredit Rook’s ownership over the game. This intentional feature is what makes it feel insulting at times.
There has to be some reason the main character of a game is you and not someone else and with a game this uniqueness needs to carry your whole gameplay. In Origins it lies in your character being a grey warden, you and Alistair are the last available wardens to fight the current blight and fix the political issues using the blight as a scapegoat cos it serves to help your cause continue its operations. Now you or Alistair could be the leader of your group however Alistair by design takes a backseat he doesn’t want to be a leader which is something that ties deeply into his character and character growth. It’s a very deliberate choice that both makes Alistair pretty interesting and makes sure your character doesn’t get undermined. This choice is a narrative choice that allows your character to feel important through out the choices you make and in the finale as without you or Alistair no one else can actually end the blight and having both people allows for a variety of endings.
Rook’s uniqueness in the narrative plot lies in your little blurb at the beginning of the game but it’s not particularly powerful or holds its weight over the game. Getting plucked out by Varric for having a good heart doesn’t really correlate to having the ability to kill a god and any of this stops mattering once the opening of the game is over. This is another miss by just selecting different plot points from previous games to make up Veilguard without considering how it actually correlates to actual game you’re making. Like Varric loving Hawke and defending them to Cassandra works as a narrative point because the stakes aren’t high. But when the stakes are literally fighting gods being good pals with a guy doesn’t really cut it.
The other side of video game main characters being unique and standing out is not always but often a power only they can wield. Other characters can have similar powers but theirs must be unique and is what you’ll use in fights. Inquisition did it really well having the anchor, no one else can use it as it’s literally implanted into the Inquisitor’s body and it ties directly into the overall narrative and used often when exploring. The inquisitor also gets to claim ownership over this power through having it the entire game and only finding out its source right at the end since it was belonging to someone in their inner circle. Again by design your companions weren’t written to overshadow your Inquisitor with what made them unique as a main character.
But Rook gets a dagger that belonged to Solas and is introduced by showing him using it to begin the plot of the game. Now this dagger is a regular dagger, Rook keeps it attached to their body and goes about their days and it doesn’t necessarily need to be wielded by them. The real crime here is that all we get from it is to summon our companions powers to help ur character jump up onto rocks. Both overshadowing our character and ruining the daggers ownership to Rook. It’s no longer something only Rook can wield rather it’s just a reason to call over someone more helpful. We as the main character have to literally take a back seat regularly cos the game couldn’t even give us a unique power in a game where everyone else gets nonsensical abilities. Intentionally designing the game the insult your character for considering themselves as important.
And if that doesn’t help Rook feel less important another aspect of the game is it literally saying the squad needs to work through their personal issues before fighting the gods cos their problems are causing infighting. But Rook doesn’t get to have any personal issues, so once again they take the backseat for some epic moments that belong to their companions and they get a thanks for the help sticker. Several aspects of the game are intentionally made to feel like your character is just a camera to watch other people do stuff because Rook wasn’t written to actually fit into the game they exist in.
Which is so baffling, I don’t think I’ve ever played a narrative game where this happens. Where I’ve spent 60 hours playing just for my own character to feel like the odd one out and for the game to actively make me feel like I should feel grateful I’m even here just to be pitied with a dagger that calls better people to my rescue. The contempt BioWare has for its own title, the devs who made dragon age exist and for people who spend money on it for them to have profits is crazy.
#datv critical#probably my last post on the game I just needed to get it out of my system#I played fire emblem awakening last month and it made my character feel so welcome and important#characters in game actively saying hi and checking on me and my character was central to the plot#then I think about how rook was made to feel worthless but also the only reason the world can be saved#which is so indicative of our relationship as fans to BioWare they think of us as worthless but we are ones giving them money#insulting us and then expecting us to buy 60 dollar games and shut up doesn’t really work#I do still have so much love for the games which still drives me to want to play 2 still#and eventually just focus on the other three so I can ignore veilguard forever but I needed to verbalise my pain#shoutout to physical media and steam sales for letting me buy the old games in a way that doesn’t feel like I’m feeding BioWare money#that they’re gonna use to insult me for daring to like a game series they made and profited off#last thing there were definitely things about the game i liked unique aspects that should have been developed better and how epic#and grand it felt at times was cool but im not watching an action movie im playing a game#so for everything I liked its either forgettable because its purely surface level good visuals or because it was so underbaked#that I couldnt even feel connected to them#played as an elven veil jumper who romances Lucanis and i walked away with my rook feeling empty after saving the world#what did she have in return for her efforts nothing cos the game wanted me to think their blorbos are cool not mine

[ cw: violence mention / death mention / ]
Will never stop thinking about how Leo, all alone in an endless void and being beaten again and again and again by the only other living thing around, still finds comfort in that space. The situation he was in was completely hopeless, and in any other circumstances he would not have escaped, at least not fast enough to save him from permanent (or even fatal) damage, be it physical or mental.
And yet, despite the bleakness of his situation, despite the agony and helplessness, all he needs is one glance at a crumbled photograph, one glance to remember his family, and that’s enough of a reason for him to smile.
Maybe that’s why his powers center around manipulating space - because no matter how much space is between them, no matter how dire his own situation may be, just the thought of his family, alive and okay, is enough to give Leo hope.
#rottmnt#rise of the teenage mutant ninja turtles#rottmnt leo#rise leo#the prison dimension is horrifying on its own#add in a monstrous being that towers over you and has vowed to ensure your suffering?#god I can’t imagine how scary that is#Mikey opening the portal was a miracle because if he hadn’t managed it there#it’s really up in the air what could have become of Leo#personally I subscribe by the theory that you straight up can’t die in the prison dimension#so it’s a prison in all ways#but the thought of a Leo who manages anyway who adapts and continues to have hope despite it all…#Leo saying he’s nothing without his family is a double edged sword really#because the thought of his family alone is all he needs to live. to hope.#to smile#nothing without them…but they’re EVERYTHING to him#and maybe he doesn’t realize it but…the feeling is mutual#one thing too is that hope that comforts Leo so much is not just that#should he think his family needs help - that hope can turn into determination#I’m unwell about this family#actually on my point of their powers - I truly do think the abilities tie in not only to their personalities#but to their relationship to family and love in general#kinda like love languages in a way#Mikey with his chains and time abilities values being around his family the most - he wants them to experience living in the moment togethe#Donnie is someone who is 100% a gift giver to show his love - his constructs are exactly that aren’t they? gifts of his mind#Raph is someone who willingly bears the weight of the shield - he protects his family like the best big brother possible#and Leo - he goes off on his own a lot but his mind is constantly on his family anyway#like a sailor at sea no matter how far he travels the compass always point in one direction - and for him that compass points home#even if he can’t make it back - it’s still there#and that’s enough

One thing I hate about some Zutara fans is how they make it all about Aang and Katara
“Oh he’s like her little brother”
“She never saw him romantically”
“Zuko understands her more”
Which ok fine, if you ship it you ship it BUT they forget one important part.
ZUKO LOVES MAI
Tumblr media
There are two people in Zutara but most fans only focus on Kataras side of things, they forget Zuko wasn’t some single guy pining over her. He had a girlfriend who he really cared about.
And some Mai antis think she’s emotionless and doesn’t care about Zuko. Or they hate the fact that she was on Azulas side or that she “Can’t relate to him”. Well you know who doesn’t think all that? ZUKO
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Zuko redemption arc made people forget that he wasn’t with Mai out of obligation or for his honor, he liked being with her. Zuko may be a good guy now but he’s still a little freak who loves his gloomy gf

This is just me yapping ab why I love Xavier and Sylus (and not just the fact they have white hair and I have a thing for that).
They both represent a form of love and care that I personally love seeing and exploring. As much as all the LIs have their own ways of showing care, patience and love which I find interesting, Xavier and Sylus' stand out the most to me and it probably has to do with their communication styles and patience.
Albeit all the LIs have patience considering Raf has waited centuries for MC to reincarnate, Zayne is a D1 yearner and so is Caleb, I feel like Xavier and Sylus' is special in a way?
I'm not sure how to explain it but I'll try my best.
Tumblr media
Starting with Xavier, to me, Hes the embodiment of comfort. He screams comfortable, stable and steady.
To me, Xavier cares for MC by being a person she can come to after a long, shitty day and just relax with. And that’s what I love. I’m the kinda person to just wanna sit and do nothing or my own thing after a long day whether with other people or by myself. He’s just so…domestic.
And when it comes to what he does for MC, it just gets me because it’s not grand gestures at times, sometimes it’s offering food, asking if she’s okay, suggesting places they can go together, checking in time and time again, and just being present.
These may seem so basic and mundane, but sometimes it’s the simple and mundane things that make me love his character and relationship with MC I think, because when you’re constantly in a feeling of chaos and just generally having to be somewhere and do something, it’s nice to have a calming presence to be like “I see you, I’m here, so you can relax.”
To me, He’s a calming presence that despite the chaos, he’s gonna be there to just be present and make sure you’re safe and having a good time. Sometimes in his texts or calls, he invites MC out for food, or to watch something, play video games, relax at home, and I think that quality time element is another thing I like because doing small things like that can sometimes be all you need. A partner who’s gonna be beside you to experience the simple things and is willing to meet you at a slow, unrushed pace in order to enjoy the moment. Xavier represents time and change and how it’s not about being stuck on the past or worrying about the future to the point it consumes you, but enjoying the present you have right now with the people you care about.
Another aspect of him I like is his constant change and growth in terms of learning to trust MC. At first, I also found it frustrating that he often doesn’t make his past know or letting MC in on a lot of what he’s doing. He lets MC open up to him, but doesn’t do the same. However, as he later realizes, that bothers her. In his recent feverish attempt card, MC is frustrated at the fact that he disappears for days and doesn’t let her know what he’s doing, how he’s doing and letting her help him and show she cares. After she tells him that, he makes it a point to open up and communicate more so she’s not constantly worried about him and I also really appreciate that because as much as yes, he should have his space and be able to do his own thing, there should also be a level of communication exchanged when he does things like that and we need to know certain things about him. I like how he was open to listening and learning that his behavior, although meaning well, may not come across as such to MC and he needs to find a way to change that so it works for both of them. That shows care for your partners concerns and for their relationship, which I find reassuring and a show of respect. He’s also willing to give you space when it’s needed, but will still be around when you call for him or need his help because he genuinely wants to help and be there. He calls him and MC “Partners in life” because that’s what he strives to be; a partner that is by your side through it all and that u can rely on and have faith in.
Like yes, the jealousy aspect of him is cute (and he’s just cute in general) and the spicy bits are entertaining, for me, it’s really the fact that Xavier is overall fun to be around and interact with, and he shows he cares in little ways that matter and feel genuine is what I think really draws me to him.
I’m gonna be taking a few of my points for this part from this video by Cyberspace Maz on YouTube (love their videos sm, PLEASE go check out their channel, their analysis' on LADS are so good).
Tumblr media
Sylus is such an interesting and multidimensional character that has so much to him that I love sooo much.
To me, he’s a very mature and understanding representation of love (not to say the others aren’t). The way he cares and loves MC is very intentional and patient with an emphasis on letting her choose the pace and status of their relationship because he respects her agency and wants her to choose him. He’s not interested in forcing their connection because they’re soul bound because he (now) knows that that’s not how love operates and works. It’s a natural progression that builds through trust, communication and care.
After LAR in the main story, we see a very visible shift in Sylus and how he interacts and forms a relationship with MC. He is much more patient and intentional with her and shows her that he isn’t the bad guy she thinks he is then lets her decide if she wants to stay. He isn’t holding it over her head that they’re “destined” to be together,r which is why he never tells her of their past together and wants her to figure it out on her own. He’s not trying to force her to be with him, but letter her choose if she wants to take that step.
And when she does decide she wants to be around him and starts to warm up to him is when we see so much of his love for her shine. They both have their own separate lives and are their own people, so he gives her space to live that life, but offers himself as a person she can rely on for help when needed. He wants to be there, wants to take care of her, wants to do all these things, and all she has to do is ask and she will receive that help. His affection also comes in the words of reassurance where he openly expresses how he feels about her and how much he’s willing to sacrifice for her. He’ll wait as long as he needs to for her to realize her feelings and make a decision on where they stand because he cares. He respects her and her autonomy and will express how he feels, but only move forward if you allow it.
I think what draws me to Sylus is that Hes willing to meet you where you’re at without pressure to answer him right away or to immediately reciprocate his feelings, he just enjoys having time with MC and being there for her even if she doesn’t choose him because having these moments with her even if fleeting is enough for him and he’s willing to let her go if that’s what makes her happy.
GODDDD THESE 2 MAKE ME SICKKKKKKKK I CAN’T STAND THEM
And I’m not sure how well of an explanation this was and like how accurate I am on interpreting their characters (I say this every time because I genuinely am learning and trying my best to accurately dissect their characters so if I don’t I’d love to be corrected), especially since I pulled very little examples because I just wanted to get this out and ramble about my thoughts on these 2.

Before you scold me about how amazing of a father RiseSplinter is compared to 2012Splinter, I would like to helpfully remind you that RiseSplinter’s sons’ spent years chasing Lou’s validation and Yoshi is continually depicted causally telling his boys that he is proud of them as well as the fact that even if Donnie did make him more retromutageon, he would rather remain with them as a mutant down in the sewers than return to his previous life as a human.
Examples? Well-
Season 1, Ep 13: I, Monster
“Sensei? Are you sure you’re okay?”
“I am fine. Thanks to you. You did well, my son.”
“We did pretty good too, huh?”
“Yes. I am proud of you all.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Season 2, Episode 16: The Lonely Mutation of Baxter Stockman
“I’m sorry, Master Splinter. I wanted to change you back. But I swear, if it’s the last thing I do, I’ll-”
“Do not fret, my son. I am content with what I have become. I have no place in the human world anymore. This… Is my home. You four… Are my family.”

One of the main reasons why I used to avoid Isekai’s, and fantasy works in general, like the plague is because of how over saturated they’d become with things that didn’t feel like they even belonged to the genre to begin with… it’s not too hard to find works that stand out but so much of those works have been pushed down and forgotten, it just sucks.
