It also feels really good to be a Treasure Chest fan. This episode more or less highlighted a lot of the flaws he had: people pleasing(trying to help both Cup and Bottle), immense guilt(he felt bad for letting them both down and apologized profusely),poor communication skills(not telling Cup and Bottle why he was going back and forth) and unintentional insensitivity(thinking that borrowing Plasma Ball's sword would be a good idea). Treasure Chest doesn't work well under pressure and it really shows this episode.

His guilt in particular is so severe he genuinely thinks MALACHITE hates him. I'm surprised he didn't list Ukulele among one of the others he let down considering his bickering with Journal is what pushed her to leave.

With this being shown on full display, it does look like there is set up for Treasure Chest working through his shit to at least make things right with Journal by the end of the season. Maybe even clear things up with Ukulele and Malachite? I do like how Bottle has learned from her mistakes enough to help Treasure Chest out. Maybe Treasure Chest can get to a point where he can do the same for her? Who knows?

It also confirms that Treasure Chest really did value Journal a lot as a team member. Journal's contributions did help his team out in cases where they would have otherwise failed so it's not hard to see why. ....Okay... Maybe it is just the Journalchest shipper in me..

in the end, you have to defeat them to grant them peace and one of the knights says this, before and after he's freed:

yes those are the black serpent knights HOWEVER one of the knights of the schwanenritter, ynghildr, who turned into a husk, also used the SAME model as the windcutter dude seen above so all knights probably wear the same armor and belong to the royal guard (i think the schwanenritter was simply a division led by anfortas. remember they mentioned in perinheri that there was an alberich who was the commander of half the knights.)

Post PPT2 16 Placement Prediction List

We're in the middle of the merge, and with the status quo shaken up that means it's time to update the prediction list once more!

I had to change the way I went about the categories. At this point, it's anyone's game... Well minus Cup and the Brackets. Again, placements aren't completely rigid and this is very much subject to change.

This goes without saying but if it's no big deal if I get anything wrong. A lot of the decisions here was made using what I know from the episodes and Yellow's post and what makes sense narratively.

Explanations Below:

-I have gotten into detail as to why I want Treasure Chest to be a finalist so I'll just link this here. I will add that Treasure Chest as a finalist is the easiest way to segue-way into the inevitable Mr. Hand stuff given his connection with Journal. Especially since there seems to be some set up about Treasure Chest making things right with people.

-For Cup... I just don't think it would be fair for someone who wasn't there for most of the game to win. Yes, Fridge was a rejoiner, but this isn't season one anymore. That and I'm not sure if he has what it takes to make it into the final 3. He may be a mellow person, but he tend to mess up more often than not.

-Ukulele has always been the most difficult to place considering her arc could go many ways. With the new episode though, it has narrowed down things quite a bit. I'm not quite sure if she'll go much farther once Slipper is dealt with. Especially now that we know the couple Yellow has been teasing is Ukuwrap. I can imagine her finding that she is truly happy with Bubble Wrap and the two reuniting.

-I've thought about it a bit and came to the conclusion that Plasma Ball is a viable contender for a finalist. I think Plasma Ball has a much better chance at making it to the final 4 now. I was unsure given that Team H already had more than enough time for themselves and there was a pattern I noticed with how Caramel Cube and Post-It Note's eliminations went. I'll say that she would... Actually be a more satisfying finalist than Bottle. I still think Treasure Chest is the best pick mind you. I like to think a good winner should go to someone who has the history to earn their win. And as great as Bottle's development is... Well.. She was pretty much a supporting character for half of the season. Not saying she didn't do anything at all, I just feel Plasma Ball had more going on with her. Sure Plasma Ball may not be in the best emotional state right now, but I feel it's just setting up her finally learning to put herself together. It would be kind of unsatisfying to just go against Knight Helmet's words of encouragement like that.

-If Treasure Chest isn't going to go up against Chainsaw, then Bottle would. She is not only has experience, but is able to apply that into what she does. She was even able to make herself into an impromptu molotov cocktail, for fucks sake. With that in mind, I can at least see her making it into the final 4. She has seemed to accept that Chainsaw can't be reasoned with so it would be interesting to see the other ways she has to compromise to stay in the game.

-I don't usually like jumping to these types of conclusions... But it's been made pretty clear that Slipper's time in this game is running short. She got so cocky that she was sure that Chainsaw would get the boot, and now she's lost not only her allies, but her control in the game.

-I know, Chainsaw isn't really someone to root for to win, but with all of the drama going on I feel it makes more sense to deal with him at the end. Chainsaw has a big following anyway. Some would say Chainsaw being the runner up would kill the tension because it's obvious he would lose anyway but... Would it really? He's shown to work with what he has in order to sabotage someone. He got rid of one of the biggest threats to him. Plus, sometimes it's the journey that matters. I feel PPT2 is one of those stories where I think it's best to forgo the "who should you root for" thing for something that befits the drama with the characters. Object Object Object IV showed that antagonistic finalists could work with the right execution. That said, I also wouldn't be surprised if he was a mid-late boot. The other contestants seem to be taking action, and he's lost a schemer in Slipper. Again, I explained my reasoning here.

-Let's be real... Basketball was the weakest link of the Brackets. He doesn't have the level of cunning or brute force that Slipper has. Chainsaw may be strong, but he also knows when to pull the strings and the right way to agitate people. Slipper on the other hand manipulated Ukulele and tried to make her do her dirty work for her. So much so that Caramel Cube didn't suspect she was behind Ukulele's sabotage. Basketball on the other hand prefers to take the easy way out and grew too complacent because of his teammates' victories. His best trick was appealing to Platinum's ego. I speculated that the first Bracket elimination would be the first step into weakening the grasp the Brackets have over the game, and I was so, very right.

Regardless of who the finalists will be... It does seem that my idea of the finale challenge being tense is starting to come into fruition. The stress of the game is really starting to get to the contestants. If it wasn't obvious then, it sure as hell is now.

and yes, he can run Doom. I think he can also play multiplayer games (offline with the player kinda like a LAN party without the LAN) You'd have to keep downloading the game(s) again each time you come back to play with him cuz he kinda just 'eats' most things downloaded onto him that isn't vital to his software. He also has the limits of an old computer and running things that are too chunky can make him pretty exhausted at best and very uncomfortable via overheating or even crashing at worst. He could also probably play Flash games (RIP Flash...)

Why I started using DXT1 texture format for TS2 CC again (sometimes)

In the past I discouraged ppl from using it. But it has one benefit, which TS2 CC creators shouldn't ignore: DXT1 textures are about half the size of DXT3. In TS2 DXT1 is only used for textures without transparency.

There are two facts about textures that some ts2 cc creators and cc hoarders are probably unaware of:

Lossless compression (compressorizer etc) significantly reduces file sizes, but it does NOT help texture memory, because texture files get uncompressed before being stored in GPU texture memory cache

Byte size does NOT equal resolution. For example: Raw32Bit texture takes up around four times more space in texture memory cache than DXT5

DXT3 2048*2048 px takes up ~4MB, but DXT1 2048*2048, thanks to its harsh 8:1 compression, takes up only ~2MB of texture memory cache, which is an equivalent of two makeup textures 512*512 px Raw32Bit format (TS2 makeup creators' favourite :S ).

@episims posted a comparison of DXT formats here - but please note Epi compared texture sizes after those were compressorized. Also, I believe the DXT1 preview actually shows glitches that are not visible in the game.

To change texture format in SimPe you need to install Nvidia DDS utilities, which can be downloaded here (SFS). Also, Yape package editor is much faster and easy to use.

*This is about GPU texture memory. As far as I know, it's unclear how internal TS2 texture memory works - does it benefit from lossless file compression or not? No idea. But IMO we don't have a reason to be optimistic about it :/ What we know for sure is - the easiest way to summon pink soup in TS2 on modern systems, is to make the game load large amounts of texture data (large for TS2 standards anyway) in a short amount of time.

DXT1 built in SimPe with Nvidia DDS Tools tend to look bad - but as I had learned very recently, SimPe DXT1 preview (and export) is broken! It displays some artifacts that are not actually visible in game!

The only way to correctly view DXT1 created in SimPe outside of the game is the new YaPe package editor. You need to switch the texture format preview to AltRGB24 (Raw24Bit).

DXT formats use lossy compression which affects texture quality - this compression matters for texture memory.

DXT1 512*512*4 (4 bytes per pixel) / 8 (divided by 8, because of 8:1 compression ratio) = ~131 KB

DXT3 512x512 px (4:1 compression) = ~262 KB

Raw32Bit 512x512 px = ~1MB

2048x1024 px DXT1 texture takes up around as much texture memory as 1024x1024 px DXT3 or DXT5 (non transparent*) = ~1 MB

*Flat (non transparent) DXT3 size is the same as DXT5.

Fun fact: flat DXT1 and DXT5 built in GIMP look identical, and also not much better than SimPe DXT1 (in game!).

DXT5 has 4:1 compression just like DXT3 but it can store more data in alpha channel, and that allows for much better looking transparency (if smooth alpha is present, size is increased). As I already mentioned, DXT1 does not support alpha transparency.

I don't want my game to look like crap, but if texture looks OK as DXT1, then why not use it. Aside from hood decor, I've been reconverting some wall and floor textures for myself to DXT1 recently, instead of resizing.

Some ppl might cringe on seeing 2048x2048 skybox textures but to me large texture is justified for such a giant object. I cringe at Raw32Bit makeup.

I'm slowly turning all Raw32 makeup content in my game to DXT5 (no mipmaps). I've edited enough of those to know, that quite often the actual texture quality is not great. If a texture has been converted to DXT3 at some point, alpha channel is a bit choppy. "Upgrading" such texture to Raw32 doesn't do anything, other than multiplying texture size by four. I don't know how 'bout you, but I only use one or two skyboxes at a time, while my sims walk around with tons of face masks on them, so it's a real concern to me. And don't make me start on mip maps in CAS CC. My game certainly doesn't need 33% larger hair texture files :S

*note - another thing I've "discovered" after writing this post, SimPe DDS Builder can actually make crisp mipmaps as long as you set Sharpen to "None".

Note2: Raw8Bit (bump maps) / ExtRaw8Bit (shadows etc) are also uncompressed formats, but don't contain color data and weight around as much as DXT3.
