awww now that I've managed to get a better veilguard design going for my adaar seeing him again hits so much harder, since I'm not distracted by the face the whole time. hey baby boy. I missed you. you are so very tall and your voice is so good and the way you sound quietly jovially amused at being asked whether you can breathe fire ("you know what that's one I've never heard before at least that's going into the collection" vibes) is so charming

also as a cassandra romancer there's something so funny and adorable about him being like 'I could never have saved the world if I hadn't had people like cassandra (😍😍😍*sighs dreamily, draws little hearts around her name in the subtitles, writes out 'mr. adaar-pentaghast' in the margins*). oh and josephine and cullen and dorian and everyone. of course. with me from the start'. SIMP ALERT (affectionate and also he is right and he should say it cassandra pentaghast my beloved). if I'm guided by anything it's you, all these years later...

Fic Friday 5 + 1 Roundup: Poly

Peter never intended for his and Spider-man's life to be so separated that he ended up dating two different people in each world. Yet, here he was... Written for @cassandrapentayaaaaas. A scene about after Mos’ meeting with Peter about hiring the Valo Kas, I hope you like it :) (Under the cut cause of length)

Mosrael Adaar and the rest of her squad were finishing off the day with a pint in the Heralds Rest, the inquisitions own tavern. They were joined at the bar by a dwarf in red who sat down next to Mos, gesturing to the bartender for a drink.

They sat in comfortable silence with their drinks then the dwarf cleared his throat, Mos turned to face him, eyebrow quirked in questioning.

“Heard you had a meeting with the Inquisitor, it’s not often we get qunari around these parts and we’ve already had contact from the Qun so you must be tal vashoth, Mercenaries I presume?”

She answered with a warm smile that reached her eyes “You’re very perceptive.”

“It’s experience” A pause, “mostly.”

A quiet chuckle then after a moment she held out her hand “Mosrael Adaar, second in command of the Valo Kas mercenary company.”

He reached out to grasp her hand, “Varric Tethras, Author, rouge and business man” giving her hand a short but firm shake.

“I’m familiar with your work, Hard in Hightown is a particular favourite of our leader, also heard of what happened at Kirkwall, impressive that you managed to survive that mess.”

“I’m resourceful, what can I say”. He leaned back to look at the rest of the qunari at the bar “You joining our noble cause?” A slight hint of sarcasm in his voice as he turned back to face Mos.

“For the right price we are!” A grin before she knocked back the rest of her drink. “He isn’t what I expected”, “The Inquisitor I mean” when the dwarf gave her a questioning look.

“Really?���

“Yeah, Peter Trevelyan is quite different from all the stories we’ve heard about him while on the road but it isn’t a bad thing.”

“So how does he differ from the stories?”

“Well for one he’s a much more open person that what I've been lead to believe, he was a bit nervous when we first met, I get it though i’m very tall, grey and have horns. Most people usually are nervous but once we got over that he was quite friendly, asking what we do, where we’ve been, the things that we’ve had to deal with”. A small laugh “he was quite eager about it to be honest, it was cute.”

A small smile graced Varric’s lips as Mos continued.

“He’s not afraid to show who he truly is which I truly admire, I imagine that a life spent in one of those circles must have quite stifling to a person such as vibrant as he is but he didn’t let that break his spirit completely, it must be a relief to now be free to be himself. As an apostate I’ve had to live nearly in hiding for most of my life, to learn to always be guarded in order to survive no matter what, it’s something that I can’t change now, I’m glad that it didn’t happen to him.” 

“He also has some interesting and creative ideas about things, now I’m not very creative myself but it reminds me of my younger siblings when we were growing up.” 

“He may be young and a bit inexperienced with this sort of thing but he’s a good kid with a good heart, honest attitude and plenty of supportive people around him to advise him when he needs it.” She looked down at the bar then raised her head to look at the wall in front of them, “I may have worried before but since meeting him, I have every confidence that he’ll lead the inquisition towards great things.” 

She waved her hand in a dismissive manner when the bar man approached them again, the bar man nodded and took her empty stein, acknowledging her decline of more drinks.

“Well I’m going to take advantage of sleeping on an actual bed tonight, got a long day of traveling tomorrow” She got up from the bench and turned to the rest of the qunari “All right you lot drink up then get some rest, tomorrow’s going to be a long day”. Her words were met with loud swallows as the qunari quickly finished their drinks and headed upstairs. 

Mos made to follow but turned back towards Varric, “Chances are that we won’t return here if things all go smoothly, it was nice to meet you Varric, I wish you luck with everything” a turn of her back as she made her way to the stairs.

“You too Mosrael” Varric turned back to the bar to finish his drink before leaving the tavern, the last thing he heard of Mos was her boots climbing the stairs, the wood creaking slightly under each step before the door shut and he walked into the still night.

(I hope I did Peter justice with my descriptions of him and I also hope that I did Varric right and not out of character)

I love when this particular expression breaks through. capacity to be a bit of an asshole and a little hater when too sorely tried: very much still there. and biding its time for its day of glory.

(second pass at peter adaar that I like much better than my first one btw!

I wish we got more presets to work with for the inquisitor and that some of the more weathered/aged complexions had worked out for what I was trying to do here (and that I hadn't forgotten his mercenary days scars after a dazed hour in the character creator D:) so I could render cassandra's tastefully aged emotional support twunk part time messiah full time wife guy with more precision, and also ideally some silver in his hair. finally got to give him his long hair and more slender build as the maker intended tho, we take those, let's call it close enough to a victory. adaar, who has actually met hawke in person, is quietly amused by rye at all times. 'yeah okay varric. I see your game here. if it ain't broke I suppose, it's as good a shot as any')
