Besides the Illiad and the Odyssey, what other (literature? media? idk) could I read/consume to learn more about Greek mythology/Ancient Greek culture. I use theoi.com to look up specific things, but I want to get into reading the actual sources. Like I see so many excerpts or cool facts people post, and how you incorporate a lot of lesser known Greek mythology things (like your recent fic with Koios), I feel so ignorant in comparison! So please enlighten me!!

(Also I wouldn’t mind if a lot of your recs had Apollo featured in it, he’s my fav!)

besides the Iliad and odyssey, I highly recommend the Homeric hymns! A lot of the gods are featured in them, especially Apollo! :D also the Theogony and Works and Days by Hesiod! Those four are the foundational texts of Greek mythology and intrinsic to learning about it <3 (I own all four :3 I am still on the Iliad though because I have been busy 😭 rip Alder)

Pseudo Apollodorus’s Bibliotheca is another good read! It compiles the majority of the known mythological world into one book! (I also have this one ;) used it for my Marsyas research :D)

after that, I also suggest Euripedes’s plays, as well as *checks spelling* Aeschylus’s!

Aeschylus’s plays are all compiled into The Oresteia, and Apollo is a prominent figure in it!

But I would also suggest reading Euripedes’s The Trojan Women with it, because Cassandra features in both and I, personally, am a sucker for her and Apollo’s tragedy ✊😔 (I also have the Oresteia hehe!)

Euripides has other good stuff too! Medea is a BANGER of a play from what I hear, and Hecuba, Alcestis, Electra, and all his other works can really help understand Greek culture by reading between the lines :3 (I do not have any of these rip)

there are so many other texts and fragments too, though! But I think these are a good springboard for diving into Greek mythology :3

I also recommend looking into Greek philosophy for understanding Ancient Greek culture. The Delphic Maxims are a good place to start, and I actually reblogged a post here with all of them listed…should be able to search ‘Delphic maxims’ to find it (hopefully, if tumblr isn’t weird).

Pardon the quality and colors (I swear the eyes are blue-green! but when I downloaded it everything shifted in color), I don’t know how to fix that :-:

Love your story! This idea had me in a chokehold until I finished it and thought why not share it— yes, I made an account solely to post fanart, hope you like it.

I took some creative liberties with the narrator voice, I wanted to set the mood and mention fate in some way, we do know fate has some kind of hold on Cass and it did guide them at times so I imagine them to at least be on Cass’s side, hence the amused image. Maybe fate sees them as their child of sorts (them being an oracle and all) Just my theories and takes ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My thoughts/creative process bts for anyone who is interested:

—The odyssey book: I though Cass would have wanted to include everyone in the process since it’s their adventures as a crew, so I added everyone’s fingerprints [Cass and Luffy are next to each, and Luffy of course, the lil straw hat is to make sure everyone knows whose thumb the captain’s is] the panel as a whole is of the far future but not the end. The book is hand bound since I think Cass is fancy like that.

—Franky’s is a screw because he wanted something that had FRRANKYYY ENERGY! Don’t ask me, I am just the messenger.

—Cass just got out of the sea, so their hair is dripping and slicked back, water running down their face (hope it was obvious, since I wanted the hair to be fluffy I had to indicate with draw water drops).

— reading order is like a classic manga (probably should have started with that).

—the desk has a built in shelf for easy access to reverence books while writing, maybe even for their completed works.

—I ALMOST FORGOT THE NOSE PIERCING! I didn’t in the end but it was close. And I looked at already existing art of Cass and thought I saw an industrial piercing…so I added that, if it is not…ignore it.

—The Ring should have probably been lighter but I didn’t notice that it got colored in with the shirt. The jacket is just laziness, it looked weird without it.

—I am info dumping because I am hoping to appease the creative gremlin in my brain, I would like to have my thoughts back.

Why I added the new character of the Oracle in my Sisyphus musical

So when I started writing the show, one of the first things I realized for the show, Sisyphus would need to have more people to communicate with.

I considered having his brother and father in Mytholgy, Salmoneous, and Aleous, but I removed them both because what do they add to this specific story/myth? It was more so filler to pad out the musical. 

Which leads me to the Oracle 

Sisyphus is a villain, so he needs a sidekick. Since Sisyphus is a man who wants to be ahead of everyone, it only makes sense for his personal confidant to be an Oracle.

In the show, Aleous makes her Sisyphus’s caretaker from birth. The Oracle wants to guide him into becoming a noble king, but as he grows older, Sisyphus starts to disregard her predictions due to his thirst for power. 

I view the dynamic between Sisyphus and the Oracle as similar to Captain Hook, Smee or Lord Shen and the Soothsayer. 

They both assist their master, but also want them to find a better path in life. 

Adding the Oracle gives Sisyphus someone to bounce off of while also enhancing the themes of the story.

I don’t know if y’all know this, but I’ve been going live sometimes. On twitch at the moment I’m working on being on Odyssey. It’s a bit of a challenge to be going live on there sometimes but you know I’ll find a way to make it work, but today, I really just wanna talk about my love for the tarot

I don’t really think I get a lot of time talking about it and it’s made me think. Why do I decide it’s so adamantly to incorporate the tarot and astrology with my relationship and dating coaching? Well, I guess you could say that it’s because it’s a very good strategy tool plus it’s also something very nice to look at.

Each of the cards have an archetypal message in them, but it’s not just archetype messaging that’s in the cards. It’s also the symbolism that’s with each element that you see; albeit a rose, a lily, a pathway a cross, etc., there’s so many ways and so many messages to get information from a tarot card that by the time you get to where I’m at you’ll be hopefully, with everything I’ve learned, you’d be a little bit quicker about where you are able to make your connections.

Let’s explore some common themes that hang up new seeker when booking their readings with me:

No prediction readings;

I try my very best not to give timelines, not to predict what could show up in your future for a lot of reasons, the biggest of course, and obvious one which I’ll just get out the way because I feel like as a person to person, business owner to consumer, to real person to the real person, you can understand and level with me. Because, I’ll be honest when I say it’s quite a liability and so I don’t wanna have to put my whole business at risk in case some things were to change as they should and can and have every right to do so outside of what the prediction might’ve been. But, I care much more about the empowerment element of what predictions deprive people of. If you’re always pining on a certain outcome, what’s going to prompt you to make the most of your current circumstances into the changes in your life that you know you need to make? Expecting your world to alter around you, instead of taking the actions you need really set you back. Ironically, life coaching doesn’t sit back and wait for things to happen. That to me seems much like what therapy would be, and unfortunately, I would have to refer you away so you can go and find someone with a license behind them that’s able to do that with you. That helps to make sure you both are safe in that practice.

I don’t perform prediction readings for three reasons: The first one is liability; legally, if anything were to change about the prediction I made, there isn’t any sort of reason for you to come back and get pissed off with me. If free will is a gift given by God and immeasurable by time, then as an atheist, who, despite not believing in God, still believes that what people end up doing is really, at the end of the day, their decision and it doesn’t matter what interpretation may be giving me some indication of other things they could potentially do. You still have a circumstance where things aren’t always set in stone.

The second reasoning would be the lack of empowerment that predictions offer. If you’re always waiting for an outcome or situation to turn out a certain way, where are you taking action in your life that ultimately brings happiness to you? Therapy is very much about examining one’s own feelings, looking for a deeper understanding of what we’re going through, why we decide to go through it, and the choices we make. The tarot can be good for this and a skilled reader knows how to offer this sort of therapeutic technique acting more as a guide rather than assuming the role of a licensed counselor; meanwhile, coaching is not in that way, anything to do with examining those things. It is more about taking in what we already know and finding ways to apply such knowledge into an actionable plan. In essence, therapy in tarot can be a beautiful blend, if one is licensed in the counseling field. I, however, am not licensed in therapy. I am able to apply coaching skills I have learned on my own and used them in such a way that helps to hopefully bring results of genuine romance for you. The focus is not limited to love as it could be Business/Career/Finance as well, but moreover, predictions don’t really provide you with much to work with. It’s good to look at the tarot to help you find your resources in your present time so action can be taken.

Lastly, the details of predictions are never set in stone anyway. I’m only given a small snippet of what’s to come and I’m not gonna lie to you, It’s a boring reason to read. It doesn’t give you much to work with. It just takes from what position you’re already headed toward and presents a good idea from there - honestly something we don’t need the tarot for. I’m sure you can already come up in your head of things that you possibly want to guide away from and a prediction is just an estimation.

The second popular theme of the ways I operate that may stump New Seekers is my “no prying readings, or readings on or focusing on someone’s intentions,” policy.

The reason why I do this is because people deserve their privacy. It’s like HIPAA with me. If you’re willing to come to me, ask questions, divulge your heart and speak from the soul to me and I go around with a client, who also happens to know you and diverge that information because they wanna know about it, you would feel violated. In a way, when asking a tarot reader about how someone is deciding to live their life, even if they may be cheating, it is still considered a violation of that privacy. Karma doesn’t always make sense or seem fair, I get it sucks. But what I think the complexities of karma and Freewill concepts argue is that such a person isn’t entitled to be honest with you. Despite this claim, that doesn’t mean that they are still entitled to your energy, your time and your commitment, if trust is in question.

This is where the disempowering element of prediction and prying comes in; where you forget that you have every right to say, “I don’t deserve this.”

As a single woman inspired by my career to show the beauty and power of self-actualized romance, I deserve to have somebody in my life that will treat me with the respect that I’m looking for. It’s telling a different message when you allow things to change because you’re looking for exceptions; you’re looking for something to consider against those other feelings; you’re looking for a reason to deny your intuition it’s justice - so in that sense, that is something that you will have to have cognitive awareness of you committing to doing, and that is what prying messages keep others from doing. It keeps seekers from taking accountability for the choices they make, for people that they know can’t justify unbalanced treatment.

Ahh, it was really nice getting a moment to talk about my two most contentious conversations around the types of readings I offer. I usually say, despite these two contraindications being: Predictive and Spy readings, you can ask about anything you want. Coaching has been an avenue for me to assist people into taking control of their dream goals. It’s funny to see the looks in people’s eyes when as pragmatic as I’m being, I use a metaphysic to structure us a path toward success. Just know that tools are only as useful as it’s wielder - and a boundless creator designs a tapestry of nuisance and possibilities of opportunities.

I currently have a list of possible Devil Fruit ideas for Cass from my fic An Oracle's Odyssey. Not all of them are completely fleshed out yet and are still subject to tweaking and me figuring out the details, I'd just like to know your opinions on them. Feel free to ask if you have any questions. (If you see an N/A, it just means I haven't figured that part out yet)

Fruit 1

Kibo Kibo no Mi (Scale Scale Fruit)

Type: Paramecia

Abilities: Grants the user the ability to increase or decrease the scale of something exponentially. This can be physical (size, amount/# of things, ect) or metaphorical (force, strength, speed, ect). Only works on the user and objects, not other people

Awakening: N/A

Pros

Would allow Cass to increase the their physical stats for as long as they have the energy to hold their fruit powers

Enables Cass’s hoarding tendencies

Cass can be that one meme where one person pulls out an absurd amount of weapons

Allows Cass to become intangible

Very difficult to block sound based attacks (probably the most outright deadly if used properly)

Could use sound waves to break things apart on a molecular level

One of the most thematically tied to Cass (Greek Mythology, crossroads and decisions, death)

Hecate is also tied to the moon even if she isn't the mood goddess like Artemis

One of Hecate’s symbols is the torch, tying into their connection with Ace

Strong ties to the underworld and death, with Hecate being one of the few deities who can easily travel between realms

Was a titan who helped the gods when over throwing the titans (relevant but the reason is a spoiler)

Called the three headed goddess represent the maiden, the mother and the crone but also the past, present and future

Pros

Ties most closely into Cass’s Oracle shtick as Qilin’s are associated with prophecy, insight and wisdom like Oracles

I actually have ideas regarding the transformations that would take place

A Qilin’s birth is tied to the birth or death of a sage (Cass dying and being reborn)

Qilins are also known to transport souls

The most distinct transformation of all the Zoan ideas and also the most fun

The chimera esque appearance of a Qilin (important and thematically tied but the reason is a spoiler)

Luffy is based on Sun Wukong who also hails from Chinese mythology like the Qilins

As of right now, any of these fruits are possibilities. Cass never getting a Devil Fruit is also an option. I’d love to hear your opinions. Some other miscellaneous notes, I’m a bit on the fence on the idea of Cass being a Zoan. They’re already an Oracle which is a mythological classification on its own. That’s not to say they can’t be both but it’s something I think about. Also, awakenings. If I were to give them a Devil Fruit, I’d want to have them awaken it before the story finishes so I’d love to hear any ideas you have for it
