If you want someone balanced between being a bastard and knowing where the line is, I have to throw miniminuteman into the ring
I increasingly think publications like Cracked and Mad Magazine served a load bearing cultural purpose keeping young straight guys from developing extreme reactionary opinions.

'Saying things in a funny way' is an op skillset for real though.
Latest example 'when you're late coming home and I don't know why I get worried about you and think perhaps there has been a car accident and this is why I send check-in texts' = distressing concept, explains the texting as something other than controlling behavior but still sounds neurotic and may increase any aversion felt toward it
'When I don't know why you aren't home yet I start to think maybe you got eaten by a car' = funny, sympathetic, likely to make such texts less burdensome to receive.
Why is communication like this.

AO3 needs a dislike button, a minus kudos. You can spam it as many times as you like. In fact, you can even get it into the negatives, just to really show those pesky authors that they never should have never spent time to create something that could bring joy to others. Eww, how dare they try to be creative???
While we're at it, lets add an algorithm. You hit on a work with waterplay once because you were curious, but it turns out you don't like it? Too bad, it's forever engraved into AO3's database, no matter how much history you delete.
And since we have can dislike works, why not on comments? No positive kudos, only negative. Someone says they like how the dialogue is set up, but you disagree? DISLIKE!!! Nobody's opinion can conflict with yours that's ILLLEGGGAAAALLLL!!!!
Also, there's just a big "🖕" while your scrolling through the works that you can send to the author, completely anonymous. You can only send it if you've never read the fanfic before. Y'know what they say, you should judge a fanfic by it's summary and tags and nothing else.

AO3
Two things can be true. AO3 should not have an algorithm, but it would be nice to find a similar work. Because: I like being able to search for works that I either wouldn't typically read or when I'm just looking for a new thing. But, I also wish that ao3 had a "Similar Works" at the bottom, that was made by the authors, so that if I liked what I was reading I could find similar works.

My fears regarding TikTok go beyond the blatant propaganda, narrative control, and censorship. I am concerned about the algorithm and the potential it has to be weaponized. It is so specific and accurate to find what niches, beliefs, and subcultures people are a part of that it could be used to identify people/groups the government want to target. The US didn’t want China to have the data because they wanted the data.
For instance, if they wanted to target crafty, left-handed, eldest siblings, who like [insert specific sports team here] all they would have to do is pull on the threads of the algorithm to have the accounts and information of people who were sorted into these specific boxes.

there have been a lot of people making up reasons for the gen z generational divide and while i think the main difference is that being in your teens vs your 20s are very different things i once saw someone say that the real difference is that older gen z used social media while most sites were still using chronological posts and its kind of changed the way i see everything

due to the nature of summer camp work, i have been exposed to more mainstream disney/pixar/whatever animated children's movies lately, and honestly with a lot of them just feel kind of i guess toothless and/or vapid and frankly kind of lacking in self-respect in their writing. except for kung fu panda 4 i had to miss like half of that bc i was sent to organize the snacks but from what i saw i thought that one was good.
#i kept on thinking to myself 'we should show these kids some ghibli movies to scare them shitless'#or at the very least give them contact with art that's not afraid of engaging seriously with real world themes of violence or hardship#and doesn't have dialogue that is literally just spoon-feeding you what to think#like when people complain abt movies not hitting as hard anymore bc they lack the time to breathe it's true#i think i also kind of hate the way a lot of american productions seem to always want to make jokes abt social media#or phrase things in a way that seems to rely heavily on pop culture without... i guess the phrase would be 'engaging w/that culture'#and i think i kind of get why saying something has a 'timeless feel' or 'timeless dialogue' or w/e is such high praise now#i think there's definitely room in this world for period pieces and i find those fascinating to see too#i just don't like that social media and its algorithms are just games we're all expected to play i guess#i don't like the attention economy of the internet n i don't like that it's so embedded in the status quo now#that it's a part of vapid children's media these days#the worm speaks#at the same time the internet *is* a part of our lives now. but i guess i also don't like that the internet#and social media are portrayed as like. For Everyone? and that Everyone's on there just like in real life?#bc blahblahblah we need a return of kids' spaces on the internet#idk tbh from what i've gathered the way kids use the internet these days doesn't seem all that bad
