Top 10 SFTH Characters
I told y'all it was coming, and here it is; my Top 10 favorite characters in the SFTH universe
10. Peter (The Milkman)
This kid knows how to twist a fucking knife, huh? He doesn’t even know what’s going on and somehow he manages to metaphorically stab David 37 times in the chest /ref. Peter is also my favorite example of Tom playing a traumatized child, he just does it so well here. I genuinely love the scene where David tells him his mom's not happy and he immediately apologizes and wants to go Go-Karting with her. Idk how Tom can portray that kind of character that well, but I'm glad we get to see it so frequently- Plus it was iconic of him to sing 'Tomorrow' twice, once while he was running for his life.
9. Mario the Sheep (The Lighthouse)
Everyone’s favorite inbred, part-human, cocaine using sheep that loses his mind (alongside Sam) throughout the storyline. There's not much to say about it other than the fact I love comic relief characters and who's more comic relief than this guy? It was also fun to watch Sam slowly die inside once the sheep was made a main character, that was great-
8. Marty (The Evil Make-A-Wish Kid)
Another instance of Sam’s portrayal and delivery making his character memorable as hell. The smirk and the voice he chose to use for all of his lines make Marty one of my favorite villains in their plays (OLM doesn’t count, I see her as more morally grey than anything). He's a great combination of being played for laughs and genuinely doing evil things. This kid lights his mom on fire and all he has to say about it is "I'm gonna miss games when I'm dead." It might be my favorite line in that play tbh, along with "Congratulations. You killed the kid"
7. Andrew (All Eyes On Nigel)
Along with the Janae type nerds (spoiler for later 🤫), I also have a soft spot for the naive/inexperienced characters, especially when they get a little fucked up by the end of their storyline. Andrew is a prime example of this in the SFTH universe, being all excited about his job as an officer, before being taken hostage and being given drugs starting to sound like a favorite character of mine from a different fandom...
6. Donnie (The Detective v The Christmas Tree Bandits)
THE ADHD icon. He’s far from the only SFTH character with diagnosed ADHD and idk about you but he’s the representation I wanted fr- and now he’s dead :( Even if his death wasn't as emotional of a scene as y'all made it out to be, it still makes me sad and I will be living in denial about it with the rest of you for while.
5. Janae (The Neighbor's Under The Bed)
Janae is the textbook definition of the ‘character way too smart for their age to an unrealistic level’, therefore she has to make an appearance on my favorites list. She also has the line "My Seismogram IS TRUE" which is such a good quotable line, I'm never getting over that-
4. Jimmy (Toby’s Secret Pocket)
Ah, the Fan Favorite Tom character who can’t get through a door if his life depended on it. Who can blame the audience for latching onto him? "I was just gonna say it's the racism" "I get lonely sometimes" "STOP IN THE NAME OF THE LAW" I mean, how can we be expected to not love him?
3. Old Lady Marjorie (The Unrelenting Aubergine)
I think everyone knows why she’s here. 1) She's another villain/morally grey character from Sam, 2) At least half of her witchery is just drugs, and 3) She slaps AJ- I mean James- 3 times, causing Sam- I mean Marjorie- to turn bright red from laughter. Absolute Cinema.
2. Amanda (Clarissa's DIY Wedding)
Tom’s other hopeless romantic gay character, I’m sensing a pattern in my favs- I've mentioned how much I love that Tom went straight for 'yearning lesbian' with this one in my other post, but I'm gonna talk about it in more detail because I can. She loves Clarissa so so much, but because she doesn't think the feelings are reciprocated (true or not-) she will make sure Clarissa and Mark have their wedding and that, above all, Clarissa is happy. This fact makes me love her more, but also makes me so very sad..
There were a few characters that didn't quite make it to the Top 10, so before we go to Number 1, here's a few:
Honorable Mentions
Scottish Robin (The Midnight Mystery) He would've been #10 but I had to add Janae so he got demoted
Aside from the general chaos he is, I love Robin from a meta standpoint, because it’s one of those moments that shows that Luke and Sam have the same exact sense of humor. Luke 100% did the “WE’RE GOING DOWN TO CHIPPY” bit purely to make Sam laugh, and boy did it work. Also the joy in Robin/Luke screaming “BATMAN” at the top of his lungs is great, he is in his element lmao
Caravan Brothers (No, I Always Loved That Caravan!)
Before I realized they’re called the Caravan Brothers in the fandom, I fully just called them the incest brothers because I think that gets the vibe across. Technically, I think the O’Hands Brothers would also be accurate. Weirdest fucking brothers I’ve ever seen, but in an iconic way. Besides, I always love another chance for Luke to go gremlin mode for a character.
Big Hans (Oh My God, Is This A Joke?)
So he might've made it to the main list, but something about putting a nazi character in the top 10 wasn't sitting right with me, so he’s in the honorable mentions instead (At least it's not Xavier-) To be clear I just like how he was immediately introduced as a 'pocket-sized aryan' that was absolutely fucking Ze Blackberry, then in his next scene his vibe had shifted and he was oddly fond of the French accent/language for some reason?? “Don’t make friends with them!” “Why not? :(” Bro was literally just happy to be there.
1. Derek (The Unrelenting Aubergine)
Surprising no one, Derek Gangles is everything to me. I have no idea what makes me like him more than any of their other romantic characters, there’s just something about how Tom plays him that makes him so endearing. I think part of it is how he seems to be constantly in awe and admiration of Titch, loving him in such a (relatively) innocent way. “Are we gonna have kids?” I can hear the puppy eyes in his voice, are you kidding me??

Did You Know: Sotha Sil tried to turn his closest companions into immortal machines? Unfortunately the process of transferring the souls of Saint Felms, Llothis, and Olms into their new bodies drove them insane in the process. Their caretaker remained hopeful Sil would save them, but also acknowledged that the god had only visited them a single time since he was given that duty.

in your post about sorry about my nan you mentioned a theory about how all the shows link together
my friend and i have been amateurly finding silly links between shows so i’d love to hear your theory ❤️❤️❤️
(feel free to ramble)
Ohmygoshhhh, okayokayokay, this will be a very ramble-y post so RAGH
This is my theory/headcanon about how the Astral Plane could be the thing that links [at least some of the] longforms together, especially the supernatural themed ones.
But first, I want to point out that magic has always existed in the SFTH-verse. This is seen in the existence of witches; Old Lady Margaery, the witches in Moist & Magical, The Dark Moons of Slough and for the sake of this theory I'm going to say that Miss Twiliger (Green Leaves on a Summer's Day) is also a witch.
There are also two types of witch;
"immortal" witches - however they can be killed (OLM)
What I call "generational" witches - witches whose powers get passed down from generation to generation (Moist & Magical)
Miss Twiliger is both. She's lived a very long time (but this is mostly because of her feeding on youth), and some of her abilities passed down to her son.
Flaschem Naschem is also an example of magic that has existed for a long time - Marigolds, Bluebells and Hugh is set in the 1870s. Maybe Margaery, or another witch, created the Bluebell King?
So, yes, magic has always existed in the SFTH-verse, but I don't believe that magic can just be created, it needs to come from somewhere;
The Astral Plane - the place where spirits rest. Where the supernatural is the natural.
The witches have some sort of connection to the Astral Plane, giving them their powers. And for the longest time, only biologically human females could access the Plane. That is, until Jasper was given his grandmother's abilities.
For the longest time, the supernatural was kept within the confines of the Astral Plane, only the witches being able to access the smallest fraction of the Plane. Only beings made of magic are able to see into it, but even then, they can only do so through death (The Grape Depression).
That is until the wall that separated the Astral Plane and the Human Plane was broken.
The Xavier family (The Leftenmost Window), following my definition, are technically witches, and generational ones at that. They, out of everyone I've mentioned so far, have the strongest connection to the Astral Plane so far. It was their story where the Astral Plane was introduced. The Xaviers physically went into it, we saw it happen once, but we know that the mother had gone into the Astral Plane at least once before - at the end of the Boer War.
This caused the wall between Planes to begin to fracture, and for it to further break when both Samantha and her mother went into the Astral Plane. This therefore caused holes in reality to form, allowing the supernatural to creep into the Human Plane, and the non-connected to see (and sometimes enter) the Astral Plane.
Holes can be torn when a pilot goes too fast, and causes him to be stuck in the Astral Plane (The Pilot's Final Flight). Maybe a haberdasher sees the ghost of his old bosses daughter (The Meringue Haberdashery). Maybe a young boy discovers a hole in his wall leading to one of the Astral Plane's most sinister inhabitants (Strange Noises From The Hole In The Wall). Maybe the Astral Plane also serves as a prison for the most devious of phantoms (The Phantom of Hornchurch). Maybe the Astral Plane was the home of a little girl of extraordinary powers (She Came From Beyond). Two friends forced to trial their friendship in some sort of twisted performance on a stage where death isn't permanent (Sorry About My Nan).
The Astral Plane could also have different names; The Beyond, Hell, maybe even The Vault.
Overtime, the inhabitants of the Human Realm learn to control the Astral Plane, even without being connected to it. Mary invented time [astral] penetration (Murders in Space). An aspiring TV presenter could have gotten his hands on this technology - going back in time to a time where television was first taking off, making it easier to become a host (Beetroots & Murder), maybe experimenting with it more and going forward in time a little, and continuing to be a competition host (Burglary & Bobsledding), maybe he accidentally travelled to a different timeline, where the Xaviers never intervened with the first world war, and found himself in Germany, 1916 (Ballet on the Battlefield). Maybe André Beetroot is connected to the Astral Plane more than we know.
Okay, I want to go back to the witches now, I couldn't find a suitable place to out this bit so I'm putting it here. A lot of people headcanon that the football family in The Neighbour's Under The Bed are related to the Xaviers. But I raise you this, what if they are related to Jasper (And Mr. Rumple (Priscilla's Final Petal))? I already said that Jasper was the one to break the mould and allow biologically male humans to also be connected to the Astral Plane. And, as I said, Jasper is a generational witch, his powers gets passed down to his ancestors - but what if it weakens as generations pass? What if Rumple caused their bloodlines connection to dim when he banished Annabelle?
Anyway, TLDR; everything is connected through the Astral Plane, the Xaviers are witches and accidentally caused all the horrors™, all of SFTH's horrors™ are originally from the Astral Plane and André Beetroot is our favourite camp time traveller.
Thank you for reading if you did and let me know if you have any questions :)

Best Sam character, FINAL POLL (307)
Tumblr media
Edit cause someone sent in propaganda: second edit cause there is more propaganda (below the cut):
I want to do some late propaganda.
VOTE FOR SAM! Sam is a character way complex than OLM, and no, this is not based on headcanons. We clearly can see it in the longform itself. He’s a man/boy plagued by his past and willing to change, and he does all he can when he’s given that chance. And when he comes back and thinks he didn’t solve the situation, he thanks the Spirit for giving another chance. For at least letting him try. He has character growth.
OLM is a cool witch, sure, but all she does is selling drugs and slapping people.
VOTE FOR SAM propaganda from solar93:
maybe I'm biased because I'm writing a BaM fic, but here goes SAM PROPAGANDA
old lady margaery is iconic. yes, I love her. she has some great bits, is a really funny character, but overall she isn't the most fleshed out.
SAM. sam is a man who was (seemingly) bullied by justin for ages, and who, when justin sabotaged him, finally snapped and accidentally started a fire. he killed his mother ("mum, you're alive!") without a goodbye and permanently scarred his father ("it's so good to see you without the burns!") all because of that one mistake, where he was standing up for himself for the first time.
he spends twenty seven years (18 at the competition, later mentions being 45) of his life in prison. when the spirit comes to give him a second chance at correcting the worst mistake of his life, he thinks he's gone mad. he doubts everything is real, questions reality, even asks if a man is satan (and doesn't get denied)
he is easily influenced, as shown by both him snapping and starting the fire and by how quickly he forgives justin upon learning of the man's past. he's emotional, he cries easily, he can't forgive himself for trying to stop being bullied because it ended up as the biggest mistake he's ever done and the end of so many lives. he's such an in depth character, and YES olm is iconic and all, but PLEASE:
VOTE SAM!!!
no anon we die like sam's mother

Random but in case you didn't know Beyblade Burst was animated by OLM Studios which although doesn't use traditional cel animation anymore still uses traditional artwork for story boards and digitally transfers it. (And draws it in a cel style digitally).
Beyblade Burst "cel" art/storyboard sketches have been given away and sold before! I believe I remember there was a giveaway for a few cell arts near Thanksgiving a few years ago (maybe 2 years ago???).
Anyways, my sister actually found a listing for sale a few years ago of Hyde/Hearts from beyblade burst turbo. We split the cost and got it! Here he is, so happy to be able to own a one of a kind, storyboard sketch from OLM Studios of my favorite show and of one of my favorite characters! :D
Tumblr media
And here's the clip it was used for! (Episode: #35)
Tumblr media
Better look at it!
Tumblr media
Then about a year after we got it I actually found some more for sale on a Japanese site, I unfortunately didn't have money for them so I wasn't able to get them. There were multiple listings with over 30 storyboards in all. I wish I screenshoted all of them before the bid ended but I unfortunately didn't. Here's some of them that I did screenshot though!
SUOH AND FUBUKI IM SO SAD AGH

End of post bye \/\/_^

A Rant About the Characters
Okay so! The thing about Marm and Avid is that in some ways they are so, so painfully similar. I talk a lot about Marm and the allegory of the pelican, but that same mentality of sacrifice is present in Avid. They’re both willing to pay The difference lies in how they express it. They’re both reckless, at times. They’re smart people, and they’re stupid in the same ways. They rush in and make mistakes and see that they’re doing stupid things and maybe don’t care. There’s this one scene in the Limbo AU—I think it’s the beginning of the third stream—where  Avid is building the tower and Marm is climbing the trees. Their conversation goes something like this:
Marm: You know you’re going to fall and die, right? Avid: Yeah. So? [Marm starts climbing the trees.] Avid: You know you’re going to fall and die, right? Marm. Yeah. So?
And it doesn’t stop them. Marm falls and dies. Avid falls off of the house later, and also dies. They know they’re being reckless. They’re being reckless in the same ways. They don’t really care. They’re both loyal, too. Once they’ve given their hearts to something, there’s no going back. They’re self-assured, and stubborn as the rocks; and no more so than when they’re set against each other. No more so than when their aims align.
They have parallel deals with parallel deities; both of them are profoundly shaped by the bargains they make. While the nature of their arrangements are different, the substance isn’t necessarily. The Void isn’t malicious; Olm is. Marm is devoted to keeping the balance and protecting the Void; Avid is here to escape and prevent anyone else from falling into Limbo. On the surface, they’re diametrically opposed. But both of them are in intimate, invasive, and all-consuming relationships with ancient entities whose motivations are, ultimately, inhuman. Both of them pay the price.
Another thing is how absolutely no one is as strange about each other as they are. From the day they met, they’re caught up in each other’s business, although true friendship comes much later. They are the strangest set of enemies that the world has ever seen. They don’t trust each other at all, and find no better joy than impeding and annoying each other, and exchange jokes and pleasantries when they’re not on duty with getting in each other’s way. I don’t think it’s fair to say they hate each other, even then; more that they think the other is misguided and making their life a lot harder. They don’t trust each other, but they orbit. This is the period where Avid goes around impersonating Marm, and where Marm uses his moss to feed the Void. It’s when they have their exchange saying “You never trusted me!” And “You’ve never given me a reason to trust you!” It’s when they have the OSSHA and Mangrove confrontation. They squabble, tease, and make threats, with that current of distrust underneath. I don’t think they like each other, yet; not then, not exactly. But I think they’re pretty aware that they could. They could get along just fine, if not for the teeny tiny detail that they’re both serving higher powers. And this stays pretty stable until Marm finds Avid on the bridge, takes pity on him, and takes him to raid the end. After the end, their semi-stable orbit starts collapsing. They still don’t fully trust or understand each other. I’m on the fence whether it’s even fair to call them friends, then. But they’re falling inward at a concerning rate, and getting more intertwined with every second. Their respective arrangements with the powers they serve grow more marked and more important, even as they become more and more important in each others lives. I feel like it’s important to note that this is also around the time that Tea goes missing, leaving Marm alone on her island. She’s alone. She’s the one to reach out.
Avid and Marm both have a history of loneliness and longing. Marmalade spends the series feeding herself to a being of endless hunger, and reaches out to Avid after her island partner disappears without a trace. Something that I touch on a lot when writing her is the idea that hunger isn’t just something the Void has. Marm wants things. She misses things she’s never known, and she doesn’t even have a name for the things she wants. She misses her home, and can’t remember it. She misses her island partner, and might never find her. I think it’s fair to say that she’s lonely and discontented. I think it’s fair to say she could use a friend. Though Avid has an island partner, he’s honestly just as isolated. He’s fresh out of limbo, closed off and dishonest, and has spent his time tubing people and decimating what friendships and neutralities he might have had early on. He has a ton of acquaintances, and no actual confidantes. His conversations are all buried in irony and half truths. The thing he wants most is to go home, and he’s acutely aware that that isn’t happening. He doesn’t trust her, and she doesn’t trust him. He takes the olive branch, all the same. They latch onto each other, because even if they don’t understand each other, they have an understanding. And slowly, strangely, they become friends. They build the sniffer gardens and marvel at how well they work together. They hunt for lily pads and do each other favors. They go from orbiting to crashing, headfirst, and never looking back. They laugh and joke and ask the time of day, and turn around when they’re on the clock and get back to business as usual with antagonizing and obstructing the others’ aims.
Of course, after this phase, spent slowly gaining trust and becoming the single most important figure in the other’s life (with the notable exemption of their respective patrons, and the time spent in their service), Marm finds Avid in Limbo. And while she would have tried to save just about anybody, I think this is the point, for her, when everything clicks. This is when, from Marm’s perspective, it all makes sense. So she cashes in his debt, drags him back down there, adn we all know that they’re never the same. After the rescue, they’re just best friends. There’s no questioning it. They’re still obsessed with each other. They still mock each other; I think they would die if they had to stop mocking each other. They still tease. They still bother and poke. But there’s trust, beneath it. They’re best friends. And I could say more. I could talk about the door. I could talk about the sacrifice pit. I could talk about the tubes. I could talk about the sacrifice book club. I could talk about Marm going home at last; the Void letting her. I could talk about Avid never getting to. I could talk about the Void Cathedral. I could talk about the end. I could talk about them, after the end, cut loose from their gods and bearing the marks. I could talk about the Limbo AU. I could talk about Marm and Avid, until the sky falls in and my keyboard dies. But I think this will have to be enough for now. They love each other, more than anything. They’re best friends. They’ll go to hell and back for each other. They’ll die for each other. They’ll live for each other. For better and for worse, for good and for ill—they’ll be there.
And I love them.

I don't like complaining about S3 too much, it's kind of a bummer to focus on what I don't like when there's so much I love, but one thing that I can't help but feel disappointed by is how we never got to see the new Marcy.
We got to see the new Sasha all through S3, who is completely different from S1 and S2 Sasha, and she's such a wonderful and loveable person, you can't help but adore her. Peak girlfriend material. It makes her oddly homoerotic friendship with Anne so sweet! And Anne herself, as the literal star of the show, had her development front and center from day 1. All of S1 was about her growth, and while she still had some work to do in S2, by then she had already changed a lot. Much like Sasha, she goes from being a selfish little shit to becoming a noble, honorable young woman, driven by love and responsability, with the emotional intelligence necessary to face any challenges coming her way.
Marcy... doesn't get that chance. The content of her arc is fine - she realizes she was selfish and self-centered, she understands how that's wrong and she decides to be a better person. But when Sasha (and I'm comparing her to Sasha because Anne, as THE protagonist, is not a fair comparison) had like... all of season 2 to change and develop, and half of S3 to truly shine as her new, improved self, Marcy... well, she did get some development in S2, true - the First Temple and New Wartwood are important moments that come to mind, but...
Okay, so, we knew everything about Sasha's situation from the start. She's lying to the other characters but not to the audience, so everything she goes through in Toadcatches, Barrel's Warhammer, the Dinner, Battle of the Bands and True Colors is very visible to us. We see her going up and down and we always understand what's up with her. We get a very clear view into her mind. We know Sasha. Marcy, on the other hand, has been lying to the audience up until True Colors, so everything we knew about her prior to that has to be recontextualized given the new information, and what we inevitably conclude is that nothing she learned was enough to make her question her plan. She understood the concepts, but she didn't apply it to her particular situation. That's not a bad thing! She's just halfway through her arc - accepting the Truth without letting go of the Lie. But when so much of her arc is hidden from the audience and further recontextualized through more flashbacks near the finale, what we get is a very mysterious Marcy who tells us "everything you thought you knew is more complicated that it seemed", and given that this is the season finale, that set-up inevitably promises a deeper exploration of the REAL Marcy in S3. No more scheeming and lying and manipulating, just Marcy in real time, with no need for flashbacks to recontextualize things again.
But S3 gives us very few chances to see Marcy in Real Time. We see her in Olivia and Yunan, All In and The Hardest Thing. Three episodes. I'm not gonna complain about that because I think we all feel the same way. There's no need. But I will insist that a good solution would have been to have at least two or three episodes about Marcy inside the Core. The King and the Core should have been about Marcy uncovering that ancient information in Aldrich's memory without him noticing, for example. This would have been an improvement in several ways:
More Marcy screentime and development
More exploration on the nature of the Core
We have a present day character knowing all about the Box's lore, and it's not just Andrias randomly thinking about in with a vintage filter on.
Marcy having more agency inside the Core in general would have allowed her to fight back in some way, which would be necessary for another change I'd like to suggest below.
Other episodes could be about her "bonding" with Aldrich and slowly realizing he's delulu, her learning about some old Olm lore, and unlocking a secret that will help them later with like, Anne's powers or the Moon or something, and just... her thinking and realizing she fucked up. If the Core knows her memories, it could recreate a more prolongued scenario with Anne and Sasha, maybe a sleepover? In general, I think Marcy would need someone in there to bounce off of, whether it is a bad guy like Aldrich or lifeless projections of Anne and Sasha, or even someone in there that's actually on her side, sick of living forever in this fantasy, maybe.
She needs time to define her new, changed self after learning her lesson, just like Sasha got to do. Because we barely see who Marcy has become after the events of Amphibia. We got like... TWO scenes to tell us ANYTHING about it.
Tumblr media
"No! Only a coward would hide away in this place! Well, I reject this sick fantasy, and I reject you!"
"Even if your friends win, your parents will still tear the three of you apart."
"I started this whole mess because I wanted to escape that reality, but I won't run away from it anymore!"
And later near the end:
Tumblr media
"I came to this world thinking only of myself. It was wrong of me, and I wish I'd gotten to know you both better"
These are like... the only indicator of the person Marcy became in Amphibia. They're not worthless - she learned to be more aware of the people around her, and to be stronger in the face of change. Her final scene with Aldrich is her most confrontational scene in the show, and certainly her most angry one. Before, she'd only been like... mildly annoyed one time because Anne was being too overprotective, and she glared at Andrias for like two seconds during O&Y but didn't actually say anything. Marcy is not an angry person, and she does seem to be scared of conflict, so to slap Aldrich's hand away, call him a coward, and proudly raise her fist and declare she's done running makes her look much stronger, and I appreciate that. And she does pretty much declare she refuses to be a coward. But this isn't nearly enough. If I want to write fanfic about Marcy post-Amphibia, I shouldn't have to sit down to analyze these two moments to extrapolate what her characterization would have been like. It should be like with Sasha. We know exactly who the new Sasha is, but we never get to see the new Marcy shine. I think that's why her arc feels so rushed in comparison to Sasha, whose beginning of her arc arguably took up one 11 minutes episode, and the rest happened mostly off-screen: the new Sasha was radiant in S3B, even if we didn't see much of the transition.
I know that, due to structural reasons, Marcy wasn't going to have much screentime so they had to rush her arc quite a bit, and while my suggestion to give her more time inside the Core stands, I think that's not enough either. I think she needs time to interact with Anne and Sasha, and also King Andrias, her Amphibia friend. It's hard to think of a solution to this problem given the way the finale is structured, but my first idea is to make it longer: The Beginning of the End stays the same, All In stays the same except for the way Marcy is released: instead of just, cutting a cable, Sasha needs to reach her with the Power of Friendship. Think something like the Running Up That Hill scene from Stranger Things, or the Toothless Found scene from HTTYD2
youtube
Because we can't miss a chance to develop Sasha and Marcy's relationship here. AND since they both share the roles of the Betrayer, the Liar, the Manipulator, of Anne's toxic friend in the path of redemption, it's poetic that Sasha, who has held Marcy under her thumb for years, is the one to help her break free, not through brute force like in canon, but by actually putting into practice what she's learned. Kinda like how, in AtLA S3, Zuko is playing the role of group therapist to the rest of the Gaang. Sasha figured things out first, now she wants to help Marcy find redemption too. Make it a callback to Anne's little speech from TBOTE
Tumblr media
"It's not easy. Forgiveness is hard, and it can take time. But believe me: it's worth it. I mean, just look at what you and I have now."
Because redemption isn't easy. It's hard, and it can take time. But you still need to show up, even when you think they don't want you, even when you think you ruined everything. Getting up to so the right thing is always worth it.
Of course, if we want Sasha to save Marcy, a little bit of previous development wouldn't hurt. What if we add a little episode in S3A about the girls all thinking about each other? Anne finding a copy of War of the Warlocks that Marcy forgot in her house, Sasha being reminded of Marcy while helping Maddie with curses for the resistance, and Marcy just... thinking about them, in general, while in the Core. A simple 11 minutes segment, 3 minutes and a half of screentime for each of them. You don't need much, just a moment for them to explore their conflicting feelings for each other.
But then... then, we still need to see Marcy - the new Marcy - interact with her friends, so let's add one or two more episodes to the finale, between All In and The Hardest Thing. Maybe we can shift the Olms storyline here? Would that mess with the pacing too much? Tbh the writers did put themselves in a predicament with Marcy, so it's hard to find a perfect solution. I guess we can keep the tension if the moon is falling veeeeeery slowly, giving our girls just enough time for one more quick adventure together while not making it feel like they're taking their sweet time. So we have one or two extra episodes, and what do we do here?
We challenge Marcy. Just like how Sasha was challenged in Commander Anne, Marcy has to prove she's changed too. Tempt her with her past self-centeredness, her possessive instincts, the easy way in which she lies to herself, her impulse to plan around Anne and Sasha and not with them, hiding important information. Her fear of change. She knows what she needs to do, and she's ready to sit with the uncomfortable feeling of change instead of rejecting it immediately. Maybe she has to let Joe Sparrow go, for example, to be with other sparrows or something, idk. Whatever it is, it needs to be an opportunity to show her newfound emotional maturity. Show how, just like Anne and Sasha before her, she became a more noble person, one who, from now on, is honest, selfless and brave. One who embraces change, and who may even seek it out, because she understands this is how you grow.
Anyway. Yeah, that. I guess I'm just disappointed we never got to see the person Marcy became, but at least it's not hard to extrapolate it from what little the show gave us. We're not 100% in the dark. Though it's not nearly enough. If they ever give us more Amphibia, it would be awesome to see more of this new Marcy, but until then, we have a beautiful community here of galaxy brained people to put the pieces together 🥰

SHERLOCK DID CHOOSE THE RIGHT PILL. STEVEN SAID SO
Tumblr media
After rewatching ASIP again today, I think I might have finally discovered the truth about if Sherlock has chosen the correct pill.
The answer is YES.
I will save you time and tell you right here right now that the truth lies simply in how certain shots were particularly framed. However, if you do wish to discover the Why, then here is the other end of the handcuffs, be my most welcomed guest.
Let me start with a notice that I am as well aware as I can be that A LOT of people have already analyzed this mystery countless times from every possible angle. And while I remain confident in “The Princess Bride Theory” and am sure it's still the most possible solution (given the impossible odds), it might not be the case in Sherlock's situation. Here are two possibilities:
According to Mr Cabbie (Jefferson Hope), Sherlock's "fan" / his sponsor (later revealed to be Moriarty) has warned him about Sherlock in advance:
SHERLOCK: How did you find me?
JEFF: Oh, I recognised yer, soon as I saw you chasing my cab. Sherlock ’olmes! I was warned about you. I’ve been on your website, too. Brilliant stuff! Loved it!
SHERLOCK: Who warned you about me?
JEFF: Just someone out there who’s noticed you.
Now, Mr Cabbie’s kids get money every time their dad murders someone, yes, but since Moriarty has particularly warned Hope about Sherlock instead of warning him OFF Sherlock, it could be possible that the pay would be higher if Hope succeeds in murdering Sherlock. (But also given that Moriarty was much more interested in making Sherlock dance rather than killing him, this assumption is very likely wrong)
The second possibility is that could it be for both types of pills to be harmless to Hope (with his aneurysm), and only one of them deadly to the victims? (This hypothesis is also very unlikely, due to the fact that Hope did not have a real gun and was unlikely capable of strangling full-grown adults to death with his hands if they’ve actually chosen the harmless pill)
Thus, in this meta we are temporarily abandoning The Princess Bride Theory, assuming that there actually were a good pill and a bad pill for Hope as well, and focus entirely on the framing.
[I watched Ben’s new TV series ERIC a month ago and was astonished to realize that I was able to pick up on hidden messages so rapidly during the show. (Really recommend it! And if you’re into interpreting intricate movies as well, definitely watch The Power of the Dog too! I like it so much I am currently reading the novel.) A huge thanks to all you clever clever TJLCers, for that if it wasn’t for you and TJLC I would never have developed this ability at all to write this short meta.]
The key idea is to constantly ask yourself “Why?”. Why is this shot framed that way? Why did that light go out first? Why is this seemingly unimportant detail included here? Why did this dialogue happen?
Why did Steven Moffat write in the script that Hope chose the building on the right?
Tumblr media
If there’s one thing I know for certain, it is that NOTHING in BBC Sherlock is there without a reason. So, why was the right building the “right” one, instead of the left? Does it parallel how the two bottles of pills were placed on the table? If we make the assumption that Right is correct and Left is wrong, is there any other evidence to support it?
YES.
1. The pills
Tumblr media
WHY is it that EVERY TIME the two pill bottles were given close up shots side by side, it was ALWAYS the one on Hope’s right in focus?
2. The doors
Tumblr media Tumblr media
WHY is it that Sherlock and Hope entered through the right side of the door in the right building, and John ran through the left side of the door in the left/wrong building?
Tumblr media
WHY is it that John burst through the right side of the door AFTER Sherlock has chosen the pill on the right?
3. The positions
Tumblr media Tumblr media
WHY is it that Sherlock was ALWAYS on the left side of the frame and Hope the right without ANY exceptions?
Tumblr media
WHY is it that they switched positions AT ONCE, the moment Sherlock chose the pill on the right? (Also note that Sherlock held his pill in his right hand and Hope his left)
Why Why Why?
If it’s just once or twice, we could still dismiss them as “coincidences”. (What did we say about coincidence?) But this many? Implicated in such platent ways? I was an absolute idiot for not seeing this sooner.
Tumblr media
If every single shot implies that right is Right and left is Wrong, Hope slid the pill on the left to Sherlock, and Sherlock chose the one originally on the right, is there any possibility that he chose the wrong one?
NOT. A. CHANCE.
All screencaps taken from here.
(I really wanted to tag someone but sadly I don’t know any of you wonderful people and it feels terribly intrusive and impolite to tag someone you don’t know :( Please definitely let me know if you wish to be tagged and thank you so much for coming to my ted talk.)

the whole prophecy thing in Amphibia was so half-baked. it had the potential to be a really interesting plot points, but not only was it only revealed like two episodes before the finale, it was also so sloppily explained.
Mother Olm says that Anne, Sasha and Marcy were given the power of the calamity stones in order to save Amphibia from becoming its worst version. that's all fine and dandy, but why these three girls specifically?
what do three teenagers have that other people don't? especially considering how two of them were extremely selfish at first and wanted to use the stones for their own interest.
Sasha even tried to kill the frogs in s1 and take over Amphibia in s2. how is that a person worthy of the calamity powers? sure, she redeemed herself later but the prophecy couldn't predict that. for all they know, Sasha could have chosen to stay evil and hurt the people of Amphibia even more.
prophecies tend to be vague but usually there's some sort of explanation for why a person is chosen by that prophecy. maybe it's a hereditary thing, or perhaps they've proven themselves capable of being a hero, there's usually some line of logic.
not to mention, the part about Anne potentially dying was shoehorned into the second to last episode (if i remember correctly). it was clearly setting up for a temporary death that only served as shock value.
i can't believe people still actually bought Anne's death and didn't immediately realize how cheap of a plot point it was. instead of seeing Sasha and Marcy actually do something useful with their powers, we get like five seconds of them showing off their powers and then Anne taking over and doing the important stuff.

Another amazing episode. Can’t praise the job OLM are doing on bringing this LN to life enough. Seen some people complaining about the animation style on this one, I loved it. Very fluid and constant motion. Really felt the emotion in all the scenes as a result.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yuuki Aoi as usual has been incredible too. The emotion that she brought to the scene of Maomao slapping the attendant and telling her about the poison was so good. Considering how chill Maomao normally is, seeing her get upset like that was definitely cool. That slap was felt thru the screen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not only did she get her health back on track, but Maomao was able to give Lihua a few tricks to keep the emperor coming back too lol. Gotta use what you’ve been given. Great episode

Flora, fauna, geography and environment of Arda Masterlist
Here are a collection of headcanons for an anon who asked for more environmental headcanons for the region of Nargothrond! I can do more in depth flora and fauna posts with specific categories; I’ve actually already started one for flowers!
More in the Nargothrond tag!
Disclaimer: I’m going with the likely climate and environment based on what information we have about the surrounding regions however, I’m always happy to do posts with ideas about what environment or ecology could be based on real locations like the one I did for the havens based on Southwestern Australia
Given that Tolkien was inspired in his plains and grasslands of a wide variety of places, everywhere from China to Britain to Northern Africa and the US, I’m imagining a wide range of biodiversity here in this plateau especially given the proximity to these two rivers. I don’t think that all of his grasslands have life from all these places necessarily but I do think there is the potential for more biodiversity.
I have some headcanons about bioluminescence in the caves of Nargothrond here and about the environment of western Beleriand more generally here!
-While the ecology of the Talath Dirnen or other parts of the region of Nargothrond is not described, we get some descriptions of the trees and plants around Amon Rûdh which is slightly northeast of Talath Dirnen.
-Average temperatures in fall and winter are one to twelve degrees Celsius or thirty to fifty five degrees Fahrenheit. Spring to summer are about twelve to twenty five degrees Celsius or fifty five to seventy eight degrees Fahrenheit
-The climate is temperate with cold winters and warm summers. Snowfall is typically an average high of six to seven inches or fifteen to seventeen centimeters
-Temperature is more stable within the caves though there are additional measures used for warmth during the coldest weather including expanding insulation
-As parts of the river Narog is underground, there are many unique species found there including salamanders like olms, cave amphipods, species of subterranean  Nemacheilidae, Viviparous brotula, and Ictaluridae (cave dwelling fish) and roosting bats (mostly in the far uninhabited passages) as well as a variety of more invertebrates.
-The area surrounding Nargothrond is mostly prairie like grassland steppe and forested hills. The species of grass are primarily wheatgrasses, fescue, junegrasses and other species from the poa family
-The hills and open plain are made up of a variety of species including apera, Coleanthus,  reed sweet grass, melica, veldtgrass, sages,  weeping alkaligrass, and many species in the daisy family. Wild strawberry and musk strawberry, hawthorn, thistles, and meadowsweet are more possibilities for the more shrub like areas around the hills.
-We know from descriptions in The Children of Húrin that mountain ash grows in the surrounding areas. Rowan trees, also called mountain ashes. These trees are ecologically important in that their fruits feed a huge variety of animals including red foxes, spotted nutcracker birds, song thrushes, dormice, redwings, roe deer and other cloven hooved creatures, and more.

something ive been wondering for a while is when the tubing & cloning started. bc when we first see Trog, the vibe is that they've been there for a while.
the vague estimate of when we last see them before being kidnapped is somewhere after finding the End Kingdom-- they talk to Ruby about void stuff, and there's also the very memorable bit with them bridging to End Kingdom in the first place ("Anathra can't take it anymore!"). there's also Avid's conversation with Olm where he says "give me a week", and ive previously theorized that's related.
and, hey, it is! we get to hear a bit more of the conversation in Kittrix's ep3. Avid haggles with Olm to try and solve things peacefully through workplace safety, identifies Acacia as the problem, and is bullied into only having a week to turn things around before having to resort to Order 87.
so i think i have enough information to put together a rough timeline now!
Acacia and Mangrove actively disobey OSSHA
Avid is given a deadline of a week to get Acacia under control
Trog's void dive
a week later, Avid hears the End Kingdom broadcast
..and Trog is pulled back up by the OSSHA station
End Kingdom rescue happens
Avid's deadline is up, so he kidnaps Trog and clones them
i think that checks out!
..wow, Trog was tubed for ages.
