Sort of. Kind of. I do think it was about BB, and we know the lyrics are written by Kaz.

I don't know if we ever find out all the languages that BB speaks, obviously English, Russian, Spanish, that leaves iirc 3 more languages he speaks, and I don't know if Japanese is ever confirmed as one.

It seems likely given that he speaks to Kojima in PW, and that BB speaking other languages is translated for the player, but Venom also speaks to him and gets a verbal response in TPP, and we know that was in English due to [mumbled summary of TPP plot]. That's probably the closest we get to confirmation.

Anyways my point with that is, I tend to think that BB doesn't speak Japanese, at least not around Kaz, and Kaz intentionally wrote Love Deterrence in a language he didn't think BB knew so that he could get his feelings out without the utter mortification of actually sharing them.

Just finished watching Season 2 of The White Lotus so now I've watched both seasons and that show is so unhinged in the best way. What a wild ride! It's truly a sin that Stefania couldn't be in the second season though considering it took place in Italy...she would have been so good in it. 😭

Does not make sense in my brain that Feyre doesn't know how to read or pronounce a bunch of different words and the book is written in fairly descriptive first person perspective.

Sounds a tad elitist, but congnitive dissonance is all it is. I understand that just because I can say the word "position" doesn't mean I can attach the sounds to the letters of the word when I read it on a page. But it's weird to be reading words like "crimson" from her perspective when she probably couldn't read it off a page herself. Also, she's lived in poverty for so long; does she realistically know a lot of the words she uses in her perspective? This comes up in the same chapter. "I searched for the word in the half-forgotten part of my mind. Mural. That's what it was (114)." But she's got no trouble meandering through the labyrinths of books both in front of her and on the mezzanine dangling above. Seems like Maas picks and chooses when Feyre does and doesn't know words she may (or may not) have heard and/or known in her small time as a wealthy kid. And "meandering" is a word you pick up almost exclusively by reading!! Who SAYS that in common speech??

It's just an aspect of Feyre's character that makes me think it'd be better if this was written in third person pov. Anyhoo. I keep writing this to avoid reading. Back to trucking through.

The final TF2 issue really got to me. Spoilers, but it’s the reveal that all of this suffering and murder and war over gravel and shitty land was for nothing but senseless, bottomless hatred. That the administrator can’t even remember where this revenge plot started as she flashes through different false memories of her parents’ deaths. There was never a tragic backstory or justification, only terrible people doing despicable things. And despite how crass and stupid and unserious TF2 is, the story subverts every expectation by showing the survivors and inheritors willingly breaking the cycle. Ms. Pauling lies to the administrator and chooses not to save her, and finally lets her die. (Hurts even more if you read into the subtext that Ms. Pauling is in love with the administrator.) She lets the final cache of Australium go and walks away from the burden and legacy of a century-old bloodfeud. Hale lets Gray’s daughter go and live her life freely. Spy is the first to arrive at Scout’s house and meet his big family, finally takes off his mask, and helps with the kids. Even Merasmus exhaustedly makes peace with himself and Soldier and chooses not to curse him or something. There’s nothing to finish, no promises to keep, and no one to avenge. The only thing to do is break the cycle and walk away.

It feels odd how happy and warm everything is, but it feels so right and earned. These bloodthirsty, awful, violent men were expendable cogs in a machine of endless violence, and they found a way out. It’s a genuinely great message about letting go the past that burdens you and finding the will and a way to hit the bricks, change, and be happy. Maybe they don’t technically deserve happiness, but they’ve got it nonetheless, and they’re not gonna let it go to waste. They’re still all crazy and violent, but on their own terms now and with people who love them! Smiles.
