I’m sorry if this was a vent post but if it was genuine, here’s how it went over with my therapist:

I mentioned I didn’t really ever get angry and the mental process I went through

Realized that I “rationalized the anger away” in many of the same ways OP listed above

Recognized that I didn’t really let myself feel anger because there was nothing I could physically, reasonably and/or legally do about it

Was told that I needed to let myself feel angry, without doing anything about it

Which lead us to reason that it would be a good idea to talk about why I’m angry

Because angry is usually a secondary and/or reactionary emotion due to something else (like fear, disappointment, shock)

Talking about why I’m angry in those underlying terms (i.e. someone told me not to lift something heavy because that’s “a man’s job”, which feels demeaning, disrespectful and therefore makes me angry) helps me feel that anger and process it and let it run its course

Important to note that when I was younger, I would do a literally unhealthy amount of physical activity to the point of injury when I would get angry. I didn’t feel like there was anything I could do, but that’s because I thought I should be doing anything at all. And you don’t.

The first step of being angry is letting yourself feel angry.

I’m still working on the rest but this alone has gotten me in such a better headspace.

I don't really think it's fair to dismiss the idea that that guy might have been framed for killing the CEO as like an unfounded conspiracy theory when NYPD has a proven history of planting/fabricating evidence on people. in 2011 there was a massive investigation of the NYPD and hundreds of cases against people were dismissed after a former police officer testified that they literally have a name for planting evidence on people: flaking. you cannot be out here acting like considering the possibility that cops who do this shit under normal circumstances might possibly also do it when they're under intense global pressure and scrutiny is the same as republicans thinking democrats run a secret pedophile ring in the basement of a pizza restaurant

'wah wah everywhere is falling to the right wing the whole world is doomed' literally like 6 months ago we were talking about how there was a trend in countries getting rid of their right wing governments. poland at the end of last year, france voted in a unified centre left/left alliance, even the UK finally got rid of the tories after 15 years (right wing splitting be damned, it still happened). outside of europe, bangladesh removed a dictator in like 2 seconds, india may have reelected their Evil Guy but on a DISTINCTLY reduced majority, theres been queer rights successes in thailand, with gay marriage set to be legal by 2025, and thereve been positive court cases on it in japan. and this is just stuff i vaguely remember hearing about. im sure theres more if you care to look for anything aside from more reasons to make yourself miserable

the US has a distinct effect on everyone, so this won't be fun for anyone (least of all its population. sorry guys), and there ARE a lot of people sliding into right wing extremism, but presenting this like its an unchallenged worldwide phenomenon is inaccurate, its damagingly bleak, and all it does is encourage despair and apathy. you DO have political power, and you shouldnt forget that just because of bad election results and the media's desperation to make you lose hope

and obviously you find yourself thinking oh i do wish i could get severed to do this one thing. would you actually maybe not. but you do wish you didn't have to undergo medical procedures you do wish you didn't have to do the things that give you anxiety you do wish you didn't have to do tedious tasks that barely even require you to be present for them. it's tempting. that's why the premise works. but the premise is also that somebody has to do it. somebody has to go to the dentist and somebody has to get on that plane and somebody has to write those thank you notes. just like somebody has to clean the house and somebody has to harvest the food you eat and somebody has to make the clothes you wear. you can't eliminate inconvenience you can only delegate it. you can't eliminate suffering you can only delegate it. and always the easiest way to live with this is to see that somebody as less than. less than you less than people. and if that somebody has to wear your body to do it well maybe it's not all that different. they're not a person. you are. it's capitalism all the way down baby

Oh look, it seems like there's a Republican-led movement to purge voter rolls in the lead-up to the election! It's almost as if your vote matters and they don't want you to vote! Anyway, I whipped up a quick map (based on this) that shows when the voter registration deadline is in each state. There are a few deadlines coming up in the next week or so.

If you live in a state that regularly purges voter rolls for infrequent voters (the orange ones in the first map), or if you moved recently, it's good to check if you're still registered to vote.

Vote.org makes it super easy to check your registration: https://www.vote.org/am-i-registered-to-vote/

Just put in your address and DOB and they'll tell you whether you're registered. (And they give you a quick link to register online if it turns out that you're not! Only the 9 states in white on my map don't have online registration, and for those they provide instructions on how to do it via mail or in person.) If you want an extra verification, find your state's election website and double-check there.

So yeah, give yourself peace of mind -- do a quick check. :)

not even "boycott the lilo and stitch remake for moral reasons" but just "have some standards for movies." like yes having moral convictions for boycotts is important because, what, if it was good would I think people should see it? no, of course not. but that's the thing, innit? it's not going to be good. youre getting slop. let's worry about clearing the very low bar of "not slop" first. you deserve better. don't waste your ticket money on sequel/remake/rebootquel/Expansion Of Our IP slop and you won't even have to expend the emotional effort of sticking to your principles.
