Ok, so, I've seen a few theories about Alastor's deal with (probably) Lilith and how when he makes a deal with Charlie we can see his smile is kind of stiched on by ✨️green magic✨️, and also when he pulls Husk's chains it's the same green as well as when he uses any other of his powers, implying this "deal" is where he got his powers from.

But anyways, what I mean to talk about is just about the colors, as an artist.

Red vs Green and the Seven Rings of Hell

In the Hellaverse created by vivzie where Hazbin Hotel takes place, Hell is divided in seven rings, each commanded by a sin: Idk the order of them, but the upper ring, Pride, is commanded by Lucifer.

Each ring has a color scheme, you can tell that when you watch Helluva Boss (the other viv series), where the characters visit the other rings all the time. Pride's color scheme is red. That's why most of things in Hazbin Hotel are red, from the sky to the character designs. Which is really cool, because it makes for a really unified color scheme in all the show.

The main exception to this are the Vees. Valentino and Velvette are more pink and red, with some tones of purple, but Vox mainly, is basically blue. I think that's a really smart choice of the designers, because having everything, specially the main team being all red-coded and then having the villains go around in blue (blue and red are usually the opponent colors when you are, say, playing a two-person game) is a smart way to visually show how they are not on the same side. Because of the ✨️contrast✨️.

Which brings me to my main point, Alastor's green magic.

If you take a look at the Color Wheel, you see that red and green are opposite colors. In color theory, we call thise opposites complementary colors. And the thing about complementary colors is that they contrast. You want an easy way of having two different bright colors contrast? Make them complementary to each other. Color pallettes like this are nice because one color tones the other up and it visually brings a lot of energy.

That's why Alastor's magic is green, I think.

It's green in order to clash with everything else, because complementaries are the most far away possible from each other, and so, when green is surrounded by red, the green pops.

It's green to catch our attention.
