Why you should read it: want to preface this by making it clear that this fic is about the c! versions of these characters. it follows george as he deals with the grief from his boyfriend, wilbur, committing suicide and shows how dream helps him start to recover from this. i read this at a time in which i needed to read something like this, after losing a friend to suicide myself, so believe me when i tell you that this fic’s depiction of grief is like nothing ive ever seen in fanfiction or in any type of media in it’s accuracy. the characterization is very true although the characters are in this very unlikely situation, the prose is absolutely beautiful, and it does have it’s funny and heartwarming moments to detract from all the angst and pain. this fic is really taxing to read, at least it was for me maybe that because i was too personally connected to it, but do consider that before you read as it deals with extremely triggering material. this fic changed me. read it right neeeooowww!

Why you should read it: i could recommend all of backtopluto’s works, honestly they are one of if not my favourite dnf author. but my favourite of their works is definitely this one. this is a 1930s car racing au, which is something i never would have thought to look for, but now i wish there were a million vintage racing aus because i need more of this dynamic. there’s so much good angst and character study in this fic, i would describe it like one long race itself, there are so many ups and downs and by the end you feel like a different person. their writing puts you into the character’s head so well, and i have such massive respect for their ability to make a historical au so realistic, im surprised the author didnt live through this time period themself.

i mean to be fair dream joined karlnap’s geoguessr stream like he did georgebur’s but nobody calls that “jealous dream” or whatever , not trying to disagree or suggest that dream isn’t more jealous of quackity but i do think certain situations get looked at through a DNF lens or something (but also most of it is jokes lol)

I agree with you and I’ll be the first one to admit to my dnf bias but I was about to write a long response about how the George vs Sapnap situations are different, but then I didn’t. 

The overly simplified version is Dream joined Sapnap and Karl’s Geogussr stream 1) because he loves Geogussr and 2) because he misses Sapnap. Dream and Sapnap are roommates and clearly love each other like brothers, they have been roommates for about 3 months before Sapnap went away so obviously they miss each other. I don’t know if Dream did or said anything to make me go “he’s jealous of Karl!”, it was more that he misses Sapnap. 

On the flip side, Dream is straight up jealous of Quackity and George’s friendship. He has shown this several times. He showed it in Quackity’s latest alt stream. It’s specifically Quackity and George’s relationship that gets to him. He is jealous. Dream misses Sapnap as his friend and roommate, but he is jealous of George and Quackity’s friendship and that’s why to me that the two situations are different.

ok, this is going to get a bit critical at times (not too bad just my honest opinion), so read at your own risk bc I know some people don't like career speculation

first of all, the dteam isn't going anywhere for a hot minute. regardless of what I say here. this is all theoretical, years-down-the-line, nonsense rambling.

second of all, this probably isn't gonna be accurate lmao. this is just a guess based off what I've watched and seen, but people are unpredicatable.

third of all, this is kind of with the assumption that the dteam doesn't stick strictly together for all content and more analyzes them individually. not saying they're gonna stop being friends lmao

anyway.

sapnap immediately strikes me as the least sustainable content creator out of the three, sorry bb. he's struck me as someone who kind of stumbled into fame, is happy to ride it out, but hasn't really established a brand that's going to last. he doesn't have an identity out of the fandom like dream and even george do, nor has he really branched out and built friendships that are as marketable. yeah, there's karlnap, but that doesn't hold a candle to the marketability of dnf or even georgebur /p at this point. he has the feral boys, but they don't stream or make content consistently enough to really count. sapnap hasn't really innovated or made new content unlike others, and I think he's fine with that, but it doesn't bode well for when the dteam just as itself doesn't pull in as many viewers.

his failed attempt at rebranding and clear interest in games like csgo over minecraft show that his 'stan' audience isn't really compatible with the content he wants to make. when minecraft inevitably goes through a dip again, I think he's gonna dip with that. long term, he'll probably just be a chill smaller csgo-esque streamer, but that's a while off.

george immediately strikes me as the most sustainable cc. people just- really like him, because he's a likable guy lmao. he's bland enough to be really palatable and marketable for pretty much everyone (not a bad thing), but has enough personality and charm that people stick around. he's surprisingly funny, with a dry sense of humor, and does well in social situations as long as he's not being yelled over (@ feral boys)

not only that, but george is also branching out in his own content stuff in that his solo streams have been equally as well received. as shown by like every interaction with sbi and co, he has an amazing dynamic with them that I actually prefer to the dteam a lot of the time. he has a naturally good sense of humor that’s only improved with the time, and doesn’t rely on a game nearly as much.

dream... is a wildcard. obviously he’s gonna be able to retain popularity for a longggg time with that many young subscribers and viewers, so this is more about his relevancy.

first of all, if he’s gonna last, mans needs to stop getting himself involved in controversies. stop venting on the internet, stop responding to haters with no credibility, and stop employing teenagers for god’s sake. tommy is pulling more twitch viewers than him at this point and hasn’t had a tenth of his controversies; it’s not inherent to large creators to have this many problems.

also, he needs to stop relying on minecraft, or at least this avenue of minecraft. manhunt is already starting to dry out, as entertaining as it is, and dream hasn’t lined up anything new in its place, despite his efforts with stuff like the one where he just has to outlast. his reputation as one of The Best is also quickly fading as speedrunning drama has tarnished his reputation, and his mcc stats don’t hold a candle to people like pete. he needs a new niche, and I don’t know where he’s gonna get that from.

irl content is an obvious avenue, but unless he feels like face revealing anytime soon that’s pretty much done.

however.

dream, if nothing else, is innovative and calculating. he got popular so fast for a reason, he’s basically a picture perfect cc in terms of drive, personality, and editing. speaking of which, his editing is interesting enough that he can elevate most content with it tbh. essentially, he’s incredibly talented, and I think so long as something else doesn’t strike him down he’ll probably figure something out.

tl;dr: george is the fan favorite for finding success after the dteam dies down, but dream is innovative enough that I trust him to figure something out. sapnap’s lowkey screwed lmao

Colorblind

George doesn’t usually mention about it since he doesn’t care. Sometimes if customers are asking about a color that he can’t see. George would say “sir/ma’am i’m colorblind” and it was so blunt. It made other staffs trying to not laugh.

Only a couple of friends know about his colorblinddness.

Wilbur didn’t find out until the diner was decrorating for the spring sales. George asks him if this flower is red or dark gross yellow thing. Wilbur says it’s red, but then he ask “wait, are you...?” George nods. “So you are protan colorblind right?” “

George is confused about how the fuck he knows, and Wilbur mentions that his friend also colorblind. Wilbur jokes that George’s favorite color is blue due to having to see piss-yellow. But George contradicts him and thinks yellow is fine while looking at Wilbur’s sweater.

Pre-Karlnapity adopting/hiring Ranboo

Tommy brought over his high school friends to bother Gogy or something. They recognize Tubbo. They kinda know Purpled, but they didn’t know this tall kid next to them. Tommy introduces him as Ranboo. He asked George if there’s any avalible jobs.

Karl rushed over and went yes. Like he looks like to ready adopt this awkward.

Ranboo signed up for the job application and yeah.

Cue the next few days, just pre-karlnapity teaching Ranboo about the basics like remembering orders and be able to cook in time.

So yeah they kinda see him as their own son. Kinda. Just fighting custody over him now.

George is now the unofficial uncle. He didn’t ask to be apart of this, but will tell Ranboo not to worry too much.

He went on a ramble about walking through a stormy night and get jars to collect some dirt or grass or fungi to create a little ecosystem.

The others and customers look a little disgusted, but George is interested in the conversation. 

Wilbur suggested if George want to have an ecosystem jar in his home. George nodded and Quackity fucking yell “I DONT WANT DIRT AND POND WATER IN THE APARTMENT???”

Either George turned fully smitten and dumb or he is just into dirt

So I was thinking about the dnf stuff and how almost all of the mcyt ships are like. Just barring homophobic. Like they arent quite there but yk. We already covered thoughts on why dnf is a little eh sometimes.

AND THEN I was thinking about why skephalo is different and if there are any other different mcyt ships (theres only one, georgebur) that fit the different aspect. Which led to me thinking about why theyre different. And here we are.

My short answer is that it's the pandering. The more popular ships (read: dnf, dreamnap, georgenap, karlnap, damn sapnap gets three boyfriends rude) have the slightly off gay jokes, the back and forth that we always feel is a little bit too far but dont really bother with. The pandering.

Theyve always been marketing tactics, things used to draw more viewers. Ships make ratings go up, it's a statistic that's been proved by fandoms time and again. They play the ships up to gain viewers, they make the dumb cishet gay jokes and that's... it? I know that dream and george and sapnap love eachother platonically but they don't really show it in a way that feels real (on stream, I understand we have no idea what they're like w/out the streaming personas lol).

And then skephalo and georgebur have always just been there. W skh it's always just genuinely that they love and care for eachother and while they definitely play it up a bit sometimes it's always in a way that teases the other rather than teases the audience, if that makes any sense. When it comes down to it they just. Love eachother. N that's that on that.

And then I have georgebur brainrot from the chess stream so I'm probably biased HSJDJS but I known for a fact they dont play it up because they thought they were muted on the stream and were just flirting their asses off so that one isnt a pandering thing.

Anyways what I think it comes down to is that when it's used as a marketing thing it doest feel real, it's easy to know it isnt real if you pay close enough attention. Its pandering. That's why it feels off, and why skh and gb dont. Hope u enjoyed lol - andy

It is entirely bout the Tone of dreamnotfound for me. Or i guess like. It Feels entirely like they do it For the audience as if its something they Market to the audience. Like. For Consumption of lgbt viewers. N its rank

one thing I've noticed is that people will support couples that look good aesthetically. You have wubble, dnf (Dream = froy for dnfrs) , nikibur, karlnap, ebs(?) maybe 5undy and georgebur, etc but Niki and jack are "just friends" for them. It's like, you see people rooting for wubble because they're cute and that's enough for them, they don't care or ignore that wilbur isn't ready for a relationship

people jsur want to root for the couples that play into their fantasy of what a relationship should look like rather than what is healthiest for both of the people involved unfortunately

dream's jealousy when it comes to george and sapnap is REALLY interesting. bc he was NEVER jealous of anything having to do w sap. i remember when the first karlnap meetup happened sapnap kept making little comments like "i might fall in love with karl and never go back" and everytime dream was like "cool! :)" with georgebur its slightly different, bc i never got the vibes that he was EXTREMELY jealous of wilbur but it felt more like "george is my friend, not urs >:("
