Another Chara! -Demon/murder run version!

@idrawgaystffs
"Right, you are a great partner. We'll be together forever, won't we?"
(...It's supposed to look like they're reaching out to Frisk. Apparently that's something really hard to draw though so I might have shot myself in the foot there)
#Chara Dreemurr#undertale#Next up: the scientist's assistant#Last one! Exciting!#Whenever I think of end of the murder run Chara and Frisk. I think of these slay the princess quotes: '' F: But what happens if I leave#with you? C: This universe dies and a new one is born and then that one dies and a new one is born. And you and I get to witness all of it#weaving a tapestry of life wherever we go.'' and ''Open your eyes and accept what we are. We can leave this prison together.''#erase this pointless world and *move on to the next* ... maybe it's not just about destruction. Maybe it's the destruction of the old in#order to make way for something new. A much better version of what you see here. A perfected version.#...These thoughts have nothing to do with how I see Chara's role in Deltarune (yes they do).#hey look! I did a thing#my art#what a strange child...#otp: hero and the narrator#the hand on Chara's heart and reaching out to their dear partner. The (attempted) misshapen heart eyes. The request for an eternity#together. The shifting quiet quote... I'm not maintagging it as Charisk though Frisk's not even in the picture#And yup that is supposed to be monster dust there. Not on them because... Chara's still a ghost. They don't actually have a physical body#for any dust to settle on

Hey, @miundy-again and @idrawgaystffs come get your kids!
Do you ship it?
reason: Literal soulmates (they have the same soul), "We'll be together forever, won't we?", and they're partners, and Frisk would smooch a ghost!

Character ask game for mod Owl: I was gonna ask about Smitten, but I'm sure someone else will do that-
So how about instead... tell me about Skeptic. That fluffy bird-
THE FLUFFIEST GUY EVER
[Send Me a Character and I'll List Ask Game]
FAVORITE THING ABOUT THEM
I ABSOLUTELY ADORE HOW INTELLEGENT HE CAN BE, HOW HE CAN COME UP WITH A PRACTICAL PLAN THAT CAN HELP TLQ OUT AND MAKE IT WORK [including also whatever other voice was already there into his plan because im sure he knows he can't do this alone] BUT I ALSO LOOOOVE HOW DUMB HE CAN BE AS WELL AND NOT BECAUSE HES AN IDIOT BUT BECAUSE OF HIS DISTRUST OF OTHERS AND GETTING TOO MUCH IN HIS OWN HEAD THAT HE STARTS MISSING THE POINT OF WHAT THEYRE EVEN DOING, HE NEEDS ANSWERS NO MATTER THE COST, I LIKE TO THINK IF HE HAD SOMETHING LIKE RPG STATS HE WOULD HAVE THEM LIKE 20 INTELECT AND -2 WISDOM, HE HAS A HARD TIME JUDGING THE CHARACTER [in this case the princess] UNLESS HE CAN GUESS WHAT SHES TRYING TO DO, HE DOES CARE ABOUT THE PRINCESS, AFTER ALL HE CAME TO BE BY TRYING TO FREE HER BUT FOR HIM TRYING TO DECIPHER EVERYTHING THATS HAPPENING IN A LOGICAL MANNER COMES FIRST AND FOREMOST, ALSO I LOVE HOW HE CAN ADAPT AS WELL IF PUSHED ENOUGH BY OTHER VOICES, LIKE WHEN PARANOID TOLD HIM ABOUT THE SHACKLES BEING TO RUSTY AND HE GIVES IN INTO PARAS LOGIC, THE SAME WITH HERO IN THE DEN, HE CAN BELIEVE IN THIS HONESTLY ILLOGICAL THINGS BUT HE NEEDS A REASON TO BELIEVE, HE CAN'T JUMP INTO CONCLUSIONS WITHOUT QUESTIONING THEM ITS NOT IN HIS NATURE
LEAST FAVORITE THING ABOUT THEM
ERM.... ERM... ERM.............................. I DONT KNOW... I THINK MAYBE THE FACT THAT THE LINE WHERE HE SUGGEST GETTING THE HEAD OF THE PRISIONER AND BRINGING IT WITH THEM WAS CUT OUT AFTER PRISTINE CUT... BUT THATS NOT HIS FAULT HE WAS LOBOTOMIZED A BIT 💖
FAVORITE LINE
"Looks like we've seen through your lies at last, Mr. The Narrator. If that even is your real name." HES SO STUPID
BROtp
SMITTEN AND SKEPTIC ARE THE BROS OF BROS FOR ME, GREY BROTHERS MY BELOVED, SMITTEN HELPS OUT SKEPTIC TO UNDERSTAND OTHERS A BIT MORE AND DISCERNING HIS EMOTIONS A BIT BETTER, ALSO HELPING HIM OUT ON NOT GETTING FRUSTATED AS EASILY IF THINGS DONT GO HIS WAY AND SKEPTIC HELPS OUT SMITTEN TO THINK MORE ABOUT HIMSELF AND DOING THINGS FOR HIMSELF, NOT REVOLVING HIS LIFE AROUND THE PRINCESSES SO MUCH, AND THEN SMITTEN INVITES SKEPTIC TO A TEA PARTY AND THEY HAVE A GOOD TIME JUST HANGING OUT
OTP
IVE BEEN INFECTED WITH THE SKEPTUNIST AGENDA AND LET ME TELL U I THINK THEYRE... VERY CUTE TOGETHER ACTUALLY, SKEPTIC TRYING TO UNDERSTAND OPPORTUNIST MOTIVES WHILE OPPORTUNIST TRIES TO GET ON SKEPTICS GOOD SIDE AFTER ALL HAVING A SMARTY PANTS ON HIS SIDE WILL ALWAYS BE GOOD FOR ANY PLAN HE CAN COME UP WITH BUT SLOWLY THEY REALIZE THAT DAMN.... I KINDA ENJOY THE COMPANY OF THIS PERSON THE MORE I TRY TO GET CLOSER TO THEM, MAYBE THEY CAN EVEN BECOME PARTNERS IN CRIME....
NOtp
I ACTUALLY HAVENT SEEN THAT MANY SKEPTIC SHIPS SO I WOULDNT EVEN KNOW IF I HAD ONE LMAO
RANDOM HEADCANON
I THINK HE HAS ANGER ISSUES AS HES PRONE TO GET FRUSTRATED VERY EASILY, HE JUST HAS A CALMER WAY OF EXPRESSING IT BY TRYING TO LOGIC HIS WAY OUT OF IT BUT ITS HARDER WHEN HE ONLY FINDS DEAD ENDS, ALSO A HEADCANON FOR MY VERSION OF SKEPTIC IS THAT HE CAN FLY AT ALL BECAUSE OF THE POSITION OF HIS WINGS AND THAT HE NEEDS GLASSES TO ACTUALLY READ lol
UNPOPULAR OPINION
HAVENT LOOKED AT THE FANDOM LONG ENOUGH TO THINK OF THIS ONE, I HAVE NOT SEEN MANY PEOPLE TALKING BADLY ABOUT SKEP OR ATLEAST IN A WAY I FEEL LIKE IT DOESNT MAKE SENSE FOR ME LMAO
SONG I ASSOCIATE WITH THEM
GOLDEN NUMBER BY IYOWA [I PUT THE SUB VERSION BUT CHECK OUT THEIR OTHER SONGS IN THEIR MAIN CHANNEL THEYRE VERY GOOD, I ASSOCIATE THIS SONG TO HIM SPECIFICALLY THE LAST PART A LOT lol]
FAVORITE PICTURE OF THEM
SINCE YOU KNOW, THE VOICES DONT REALLY HAVE LIKE SET IMAGES OR DESIGN ILL JUST PULL FROM MY ART O21L3KR12R, U GET MY FAV PIC I DREW OF HIM

Voice of the Cold for the ask game, i hope I got here first D:
[ask game here]
OMG, you did! :D And I am so happy to answer about Cold.
First impression
Pretty sure my first impression was of him in the Spectre route, and I was curious, a bit positively inclined, mostly on the strengths of how well he fit how we got him and also how hot his voice was. 😔 Yeah, I'll admit it. I looked forward to seeing more from him and was intrigued by the seeming discrepancy between his "emotionless" claims and his blatant grudge against the Narrator.
Impression now
I LOVE COLD SO MUCH. Ohhh, he is as much of a trauma response as the rest of them and is both driven to keep himself safe and also experience something new (which is itself not safe) and also not care about safety... He is dismissive and deeply caring and he can't stand stagnancy and yet he feels at home when everything unravels into the Long Quiet. One of my Top 3 faves I think.
Favorite moment
There are a lot of moments I could choose here but I think I still have to give it to my bias: Cold in the Wraith chapter alongside Paranoid. Especially this sequence:
This has lived rent-free in my head since I first saw it, it just hits me so hard in a "none of them are fully wrong but none are fully right either" way and says so much about Cold in the context of other things... Especially the absolutely wild "If you can tolerate joy, you can tolerate pain" line, like UM EXCUSE ME?
(But the whole chapter is great, with Cheated as well as with Paranoid, but I have a bias for so many moments with the Paranoid version, like the "you think you are brave" line from Wraith and the fact that Cold must have helped with the efforts to toss the body into the void... Wraith is a severely underrated chapter, I feel!)
Idea for a story
Look, because of the way I fandom, all my ideas are for shipfic and ParaCold is 1000% my OTP, soooo...
That said, a specific idea I've actually had that I still kinda want to use with something, that I may have mentioned before, is Hunted making a point that they need each other (as a group) and at their best they cover each others' blind spots and shore up each others' weak points.
When Cold pulls something along the lines of his "I'm special" thing, Hunted ends up challenging him to a "play" fight (no actual wounds being left, "wounds" marked with something like chalk or berry juice or something, fake blade, etc.). And by the time Cold calls that he's "killed" Hunted (and so obviously he's right that he doesn't need help/he has no weak spots that actually matter), Hunted can point out that he's managed to land enough "minor" blows that Cold would be bleeding out by now too, because he doesn't guard himself at all.
(I also kinda want to look more into a super queer TTRPG called Moonlight on Roseville Beach because I wanna play around a bit with an AU for it where the six possible player character "origin stories" are filled by Hero, Contrarian, Cold, Paranoid, the Princess, and the Narrator... "[In] Moonlight on Roseville Beach, it's the summer of 1979 and you work in the village by day while protecting yourself, your housemates, and your neighbors from supernatural monstrosities and occult horrors by night," and it's in a queernorm setting where LGBTQIA+ characters are considered the norm, with a "focus on queer people succeeding at keeping themselves and their communities safe (at least for a time).")
Unpopular opinion
TBH I also agree that Cold isn't all that edgy. I think he's quite straightforward most of the time and definitely has some issues -- I think he likes prodding at some of the other characters more than some people realize but also less than some people act like, he really does jump to "we could stab" very quickly as a response, he seems happy to encourage potential violence against himself if he finds it interesting in some way, he has a surprisingly big ego -- but also blatantly cares despite how he often talks, is curious and wants new things, and seems to like connecting with the other voices and even, sometimes, the vessels.
I also think he isn't as hard to get along with as some people think, in the sense of, I think he has like three different "modes" when it comes to interacting with people:
He vibes with how you do things, in which case he goes along quite well, is agreeable and calm, and seems to like you. (Skeptic in the Drowned Grey chapter is a clear example, but so is Cheated in the Wraith I think; IMO Hero and Hunted would go here as well.)
There's enough push-and-pull there that he finds you interesting, in which case he can get a bit intense, prod you some just to see the push back, might sometimes go along just to see what you'll do, and it's a bit harder to tell if he likes you (but honestly he does). (IMO Paranoid would go here, and I do actually think Smitten goes here as well.)
Neither of the above apply, in which case he's just bored of you, and if forced into constant proximity with you, annoyed. (Stubborn in MOC is the most blatant example; IMO Broken would go here as well, ironically outside of if you somehow managed to get Cold alongside him in the Tower route.)
(The first two can be true simultaneously for some people; I feel like Contrarian would be in both. Weirdly, I feel like Opportunist is somehow in both #2 and #3? Stubborn could eventually go into #2, under better circumstances. And the Narrator fits a special category of "fuck you" where He doesn't quite fit #2 but there are some similarities, Cold just doesn't like Him.)
...This got a bit weird and long and out of Unpopular Opinion territory, huh. WELL, TL;DR Cold isn't edgy and actually likes a good number of the other voices.
Favorite relationship
I mean, y'all can guess this one, right? >_>
No, but honestly, as a ship it's definitely ParaCold. But in a totally platonic way, I also really love his dynamic with Hero in the Spectre route, especially if you free Her, and with Skeptic in the Drowned Grey chapter (okay, okay, I can see that one as either platonic or shippy). And his dynamic with the Narrator fascinates me but I can't ever see them getting along.
Favorite headcanon
I love the idea that Cold picks up new things all the time, and whether he sticks with them or not he gets surprisingly good at them first. Skills, hobbies, other languages. I can imagine his handwriting getting better more quickly than a lot of the other voices because of this, and him also managing to bond with the others over doing their hobbies with them.

🌆 Heroes' Journey 🌆
WordGirl
Pulling back the curtain on a world where mere mortals possess wild superpowers, with a focus on WordGirl and Kid Math's mentor-apprentice-equals relationship. Heavy consideration on how superpowers affect society, with emphasis on found families, secrets, and the mortifying ordeal of being known.
#ridwork guides
What Is This AU?
A slice-of-life WordGirl period piece that expands on the worldbuilding and character relationships seen in the show. Worldbuilding is thoughtful, lightly angsty, but mostly lighthearted with a goal to avoid infodumping and serious angst.
Give it up for Rex trying to hide his powers while more and more people grow convinced he's only hiding them due to abusive upbringing. Shout-out to Becky juggling his superhero training with her fractured social life.
AO3 Series - Heroes' Journey
WG Character Study Series - 28 Million Degrees
All WordGirl 'fics - Any series
WordGirl blog tag - #Satirical vocab alien child show
Posts about Rex and Becky as a comedic duo - #LexiHexa duo
Tone
Serious, but sprinkled with fluff and general tomfoolery. Cute and goofy moments interspersed with light relationship drama. Blends cartoony vibes and a thoughtful take on the worldbuilding.
Ex: Chuck has a broken foot that takes him out of the villain game while he recovers. Becky has to do homework. Yet we still have the Narrator and featured words :)
Characters
Heroes' Journey is a relationship study focusing mostly on Becky, Rex, and Huggy. Parents, friend groups, and neighbors play supporting roles.
Factor It In spotlights Rose Franklin, Victor Best, Eileen, and Granny May, as I figured they could use some extra love. Most villains show up at some point in the Heroes' Journey timeline.
Ships
Canon-compliant within the show's timeline. For me, this means Tobey has a crush on WordGirl, who doesn't reciprocate. Becky has a crush on Scoops, and Scoops/Violet is mutual. Also, Brent/Miss Question, who I definitely don't call [‽] in my head.
Romantic ships are not a big focus in the series as I prefer emphasis on friendships and rivalries, but you'll see romance in the background. Exposition Guy/Exposition Guy's Wife OTP SWEEP! ... Tim and Sally are there too, I guess.
- I write Becky as asexual with no interest in sex, pregnancy, or kids. She loves romance books and would like a fairytale romance, but... her true love is unlearning guilt, taking breaks, and finding peace with herself, I think :)
- Rex sort of has a crush on her, by which I mean he's convinced it's "obvious" the two alien superheroes will end up together. I see them growing up to have a pretty queerplatonic relationship. As he grows, he also develops a crush on Violet (She's kind to him) and Tobey (He uses calculations to build robots; idk what you expected).
- It's important to me that you know Rex is bisexual and when he's an adult, he will tell you this and giggle because "bisect" is a math term and he thinks it's funny every time he says it.
Setting
Fair City, which I've set in the state of Washington (Spotted owls and sasquatches represent!)
"AlgoRhythm" takes place December 1997 and the main 'fic - Factor It In - opens January 1998. This series may range from as early as Huggy's pilot years and Becky's infancy to as late as their adulthood.
Is It For Me?
If you like Becky, Huggy, Rex, the Narrator, thoughtful character relationships, and deeper worldbuilding about life in a world of superpowers, this series may be up your alley! I strive for canon-compliancy for pieces set during show canon.
I try to spotlight less popular characters in the show. Popular villains like Dr. Two-Brains are definitely there, but I try to give folks like Hal Hardbargain, Timmy Timbo, and the Coach their chance to shine as well (both as villains and civilians).
I have no "Becky's family finds out she's WordGirl reveal planned for this story," at least not in Becky's youth.
Major Themes
Expectations, pressure, stability, control, culture, conforming vs. self-expression, envy, trust, pride, guilt, secret-keeping, growth, self-reflection, moving on, and found family
Plot Highlights
- "AlgoRhythm" follows Kid Math as WordGirl introduces him to the Evil Villains Association at an overstimulating party.
- Factor It In bridges the gap between Rex's arrival in "Kid Math" and his cameos in both his Rex and Kid Math clothes in later episodes.
Other works in this series further develop the relationship between straightforward Rex and wishy-washy Becky, with plots ranging from teaching Rex about life on Earth to teaching Becky about the culture of Lexicon and Hexagon.
- Generally, the vibe is that Kid Math is inexperienced and therefore falls for tricks that don't feel WordGirl, so people try to take advantage of him. He gets frustrated when he doesn't understand why he has to follow certain rules and she gets frustrated by his stubborn pride. Shenanigans occur and require problem solving.
- "Flypaper" depicts The Gang in their late teens and young adulthood. Becky is now in college and left Huggy with Rex, who's Fair City's main hero until she returns. She feels detached and uncertain about where she is in life. Also, WordGirl and Super Why speak on a panel together and I badly need you to know.
Ongoing?
I wrote a one-shot in 2018. In 2023, I posted more content. This series is ongoing with infrequent updates at the time of posting.
- On hiatus & in need of buffer building. Intent to finish.
Warnings, notes, and explanations below so readers can learn more about this AU.
👀 Take a Peek
New here? You might like to start with these:
These character studies take place within this universe, though they're not listed as Heroes' Journey content since they focus on side characters:
- "Your family is doing okay" (G - 4400 words) - First meeting of Exposition Guy (Milo) and his to-be wife (Miah)
- "A penny for your thoughts (Oh no)" (G - 7000 words) - A zero-dialogue challenge with Captain Tangent
- "28 Cities" (G - 25k words) - A one-shot series focused on queerplatonic Rhyme and Reason. A taste of childhood with powers vs. without powers. Ongoing, but on hiatus.
Start Reading
Recommended ways to get into the full AU
"AlgoRhythm"
- Get started with a fluffy piece about Kid Math training under WordGirl, then attending a party so she can introduce him to different villains.
- Intro to basics like character dynamics, superpowers, and how Rex thinks
- Fluff, humor, & found family vibes
- Large cast of characters
🗺️ Worldbuilding
- It's rare to be born with powers, but not unheard of. The determining factor is genetics, as is the case with Kid Potato and the Butcher, or the Bests.
-> In-story, there's a character called the Nightmare King: father of Exposition Guy, the Narrator [and his twin], and Invisi-Bill. Their abilities range from semi-omniscience to invisibility, with the Narrator having both.
- Those who have powers are charmed. Doctor Two-Brains is not charmed as he relies on tech, and neither is Captain Tangent, who replies on a curse and his hook.
- Miss Question is not technically classified as charmed due to receiving her powers from lightning. However, she's found acceptance in the charmed community and she can use the label if she wants to. Chuck IS technically charmed, but doesn't identify with the label because he doesn't consider himself to have powers; it's just part of his family history.
-> Chuck would register as charmed on a blood test while Miss Question would not.
- It can take years for powers to show themselves. Most people show theirs as a toddler or during puberty. It's very rare for someone to spontaneously discover powers as an adult. There is seemingly no limit to the types of powers people can have. 1 power is the standard, but some people have as many as 3. It's very, very rare to have more than 3.
-> Rhyme has about 4 powers depending on how you classify things like super strength and durability alongside her super speed and freeze breath. Her dad has wind powers and her mom had water powers. Her family has a long history of charmed genes while Reason's has a long history of none.
- Charmed individuals may study in public school or in specialized charm schools that tailor teaching and accommodations to better suit them. Becky fears that if her parents learn about her flight and super strength, they'll send her to charm school (away from her friends).
-> Becky and Rex are not charmed because they're aliens; their powers follow special rules. However, Becky is "out" as a charmed individual who can speak with monkeys.
- All Lexiconians and Hexagonians have the potential for superhuman abilities. However, these abilities are nullified when they're on their planets, which contain trace amounts of Lexonite / Hexanite in the soil and ground them like average people.
-> Rex was raised with the intention of leaving Hexagon to pursue life as a hero somewhere else. He has the book knowledge for his powers, but no practical experience until coming to Earth.
- During Factor It In, Rex tries to conceal his powers while moving between foster homes, unaware that his caseworker found out about his quick healing and flight. Miah hints to him several times that she and Milo [Exposition Guy] are "a very charm-friendly household."
-> Flight is a rare ability. Miah suspects Rex may be lying low to avoid being traced by an abusive supervillain relative. Beyond that, she's surprised he would hide his powers, as it's not like they're unheard of in this world.
- There's a lot of depth to my takes on Lexiconian and Hexagonian culture, such as Lexicon being more into exploring nature and hunting or gathering food while Hexagon is more into mechanical things and agriculture. Rex is scared of storms because he grew up on a planet that had weather under control, and it's overstimulating for him.
- Both Rex and Becky have synesthesia. Rex can't read because "that's a Lexiconian's job." Also, Hexagon apparently had unicorns and Becky is jealous. My 'fics trickle details like this in over time.
- Last thing worth mentioning is that Huggy grew up with a lot of simians. Some he's on good terms with, others he has rocky history with, but it's generally accepted that Lexiconian monkeys are very intelligent and make great pilots.
- You can also send an Ask if you want to hear me talk about this world. I tag WordGirl content as #Satirical vocab alien child show
📋 Notes & Warnings
- Canon-typical violence (It's taken seriously and people do get injured, but the vibe is what you'd expect for goofy superhero content).
-> Cuts, scrapes, and wooziness are fair game, but no blood or gore. The most serious injury is probably Chuck's broken foot.
-> You should assume all robots are fair game to be destroyed.
-> No serious injuries or character death. Death mentions are backstory only
- Abuse mentions (Adults suspect Rex ran from an abusive home). However, no on-screen abuse besides the basics like family pressure from the Bests and Doctor Two-Brains having a rough go of it.
-> In "28 Cities," it's implied that Rhyme's dad pushed her superhero training pretty far and that she was emotionally and/or physically abused in the process. Reason only hears about this later.
- Rex has canon-typical morbid commentary (which is funny if you take it as "ha ha logic boy" but you could also read it as "Oh that's super dark Rex wtf?")
-> Ex: wanting to tear down the city
- Rare mentions of death (Ex: Rhyme's backstory ("28 Cities") where it's said her dad is a hero turned villain since his hero work didn't pay well enough to provide for Rhyme after his wife died.
More details about Rex's crush on Becky:
Rex sees himself as "Becky's obvious choice in partner someday" and is repeatedly flummoxed when she rejects his elaborate plans to court her 15 years from now.
Becky's asexual with no desire for pregnancy, but as they get older, people definitely try shipping her with Kid Math. She does go out with him in their teens/young adulthood in "A Little Ambiguity," which is a lovely date where no one has childhood baggage weighing them down.
As years pass, a young adult Becky starts seriously debating if she should "settle" with him because there are just so many parts of marrying Rex that are easier than trying to date other people, like the fact that he knows her superhero identity, doesn't think she's fragile, and he can take care of himself in the event that he's targeted.
-> It's the inherent angst of "I don't want kids anyway and I would really like a companion and he knows me so well, but WOW is he going to be so smug about it and I hate that."
It's this weird QPR where Becky's not sure if she feels "love" in the ways it's commonly defined and she's upset and burned out and lonely. Meanwhile Rex has gone on lots of dates, but always felt like she was the clearly logical option. Ah yes, Lexiconian definition crisis meets Hexagonian practicality.
-> I can't even say that I ship them because I Don't Romantically, but I need to study her chronic wishy-washiness & his refusal to look beyond surface-level understanding of things. Do u see my vision?

Yeah, sure, gonna do this too. Here’s a list of some of my ships and also just some dynamics I’m really fond of:
Gonna start with my explicit romantic ships, ranging from OTP (my personal description of an OTP is a pair I cannot imagine in any other relationship) to ships I’m just very fond of.
ContraHero (duh, my OTP of all time)
ParaCold (smth of a secondary OTP, I’d say, since I also can’t imagine them in any other relationship lmao [at least, long-term])
Foreign Body (Quiet/Stranger) (I can’t imagine the heart not being Stranger, tbh, and also, smth about the both of them having a ‘monstruous’ form aksmdjddj)
Skeptunist (it’d be a slooooooww and LOOOONNNG burn, but I think the progress would be so interesting and the eventual relationship so weirdly sweet)
Ghost Lily (Spectre/Witch) (reaching OTP to me, ngl, as I can’t bring myself to be invested in other relationships involving them lmao)
Sweethearts (Smitten/Damsel) (have no problems imagining them with others, but this is still my primary ship for them)
Eternal Challenge (Stubborn/Asversary) (same situation as above)
Aaannnnd that’s it for explicit romantic pairs I think, I’m. actually a pretty picky shipper akmaksmdjkdmd
Now let’s move to what I call my OTBesties. When you ship them, but in a ‘they’re besties!!!’ way :D
Dark Comedy (Contra&Cold)
Strategy Game (Skeptic&Cheated)
Shining Shield (Hero&Para)
Bare Root (Wounded Wild&Thorn)
Nightmare&Spectre
Witch&Hunted
Hunted&Stubborn
Mending Hearts (Smitten&Broken)
Prisoner&Cold
Spectre&Paranoid
Confined Minds (Prisoner&Skeptic)
Thespians (Oppy&Smitten)
Hunted&Stubborn
Those are the ones that actively takes up more brain space, and ones which I most rotate around my head. Here’s some general dynamics I like exploring:
North Star (Cold/Oppy): their toxic yaoi wouldn’t last a year and be horrible for the both of them (mainly Oppy), and I’m all here for it.
Smitten and Skeptic, while not in OTBesties tier for me, is also a friendship I’m very fond of. I think they’d have coffee in the morning together.
Nightmare’s possible dynamic with anyone would be so interesting to explore, but especially with Tower– just. imagine the chaos
Speaking of– also Tower’s dynamic with Razor. Put her in the same room with some of the most relentless and violent vessels, I wanna see what happens
Wraith and Cheated would be an interesting dynamic when taken out from their chapter’s context tbh– Wraith is resentful because of how she’s been treated and only resorted to those drastic actions because that’s what you left her with. I think Cheated would sympathize with that and realize the hand he played (if you get him in her chapter) to get her like this.
Oppy and Hunted feel like they’d have a weirdly close and strong bond. Not OTBesties or explicitly romantic, but a secret fourth thing
Oppy and Contra have beef at first sight to me. They either completely ignore each other, or swear to make the other day’s worse, whatever they feel like atm
Also– since me and the folks in the discord started headcanon that while alive, Narrator could’ve been groomed by a cult and that’s why he has such a deep fear of death, and think eternal bliss is the best alternative for that– I’d like to see more of his dynamic with Broken. In a what-if scenario where they both got over enough of their bagage to have an actual conversation together, I think they’d have a lot to talk about.
Also, shout-out to my Happily Single Tokens, aka, characters I hc as non-partnering/not interested in romance/‘just not in the mood for it, dude’:
Cheated, Broken, Thorn (aro hc for her caught my the throat and won’t let go, I’m sorry Modeus), Prisoner, Narrator (AroAce and romance-repulsed king, tbh), and Hunted
#not me making a ship/dynamic/whatever this is list in the middle of the night lmao#too tired to draw but still wanna do hyperfixation-related stuff. and this is what came out of it ok?#stp voices#stp princess#not fuckin’ way I’m tagging everything lmao#stp headcanons#Sal Rambles#stp-posting#just don’t add polyships cuz I got monogamistic brain and it’s hard to me to visualize that lmao (love seeing other’s ot3 or more tho)#but Hunted/Broken/Stubborn is a very dear dynamic to me#realized I also didn’t add more than 2 charas in any other dynamic here aimskdkxkd#that’s just because if I start thinkin’ in more than 2 pairs. my brain’ll explode#but just imagine any intersecting pair also being put all together#anyway. it’s late. I’m tired. I should go now byyyyeeeeeeee

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
I have two candidates.
If I count all of mine, like even from a different site and in my native language then its distress. Because that one has no real happy ending and one actual bad ending where the reader can decide if the story ends in the worst way or in only a slightly bad way.
From my most recent fics and in english its for sure my DD fic; Zephyric Mizpah (BSD - Explicit and Dead Dove; Do not eat). Its very obvious why this one for anyone who has read it.
What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
It was a hard decision but i think its So let us stop talkin' falsely now, The hour's getting late (BSD) that i wrote for the BSDC Music Event. I have writte a few happy endings for SSKK but in this one I barely angst them unlike my other event fic and both get to live their dreams while being cutely in love. Atsushi in particular gets a good ending here, maybe its to make up for what I did to him in the other event fic...
Do you write crossovers?
No. Idk why. I think its because Id see myself struggle to nail everything in such a thing. The only crossover I make would be JoJos Bizzare Adventure and Arcane simply because I have two OCs in each and I stared shipping them. But it wouldnt be for canon characters :/
Have you ever received hate on a fic?
I was gonna say yeah but then remembered the weirdo who accused me of insane shit (calling me a PDF file) over a properly tagged fic. Yeah. Other than that no, everyone I interacted with has been a real sunshine <3
Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Uhm.... yeah. I like smut that also has an emotional component and try to balance that. Not in all fics of course but inward narration is something thats dear to my heart. If its good or not is for my readers to decide.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Yep. Almost like uhhhh a decade (holy shit im old) my most popular work in a fandom kept getting stolen and it was annoying. Some where just inspired while others stole the whole idea and tried passing it of as their own. Luckily readers of mine informed me back then and helped me report it.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
Uh yes and no. Someone asked to translate but never got back to me with the link so idk if they ended up doing it or nah. haha
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes! I used to write with my irl bestie in my native language. I had people asked for collabs back then too and nowadays I like coming up with ideas with @monkey-banana41. Sharing a fic has always been something i treasure dearly. <3
What’s your all-time favorite ship?
That's a tough one. I think I have a few OTPs for each fandom so its hard. SSKK for BSD, GioMis and GyJo for JJBA, Creek for South Park. The list is looooooooong. Current hyperfixation: SSKK tho <3
What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
Uhm. A lot haha. I have so many ideas that Id kill to finally finish. Be it my old fics from my native language or The Other side of Paradise, my multi chapter BSD what-if-Fic. I have many more wips and ideas. My head makes a lot of them.
What are your writing strengths?
From what others said I apparently excell at nailing characters and dynamics as well as dialogue. And humor, which is something im very proud of :D <3
What are your writing weaknesses?
Writing anything short. And scene transitions sometimes, like when I really need a scene to end so I can get to one i wanna do more.
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
Depends truly. I mean as someone who has a different native language to english itd be easy to me, but I know at times it can be a little disruptive to the reader if implemented poorly (I have been there, good god, when I wanted to flex my newly learned french), or be really immersive if done well.
What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet but want to?
Ehmm maybe Solar Opposites (Im a slut for Terry and Korvo), GioMis and Hetalia. I have written drabbles and a few OS for it already but never published. I think theres a lot more but Im lacking the brainpower to remember.
What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
Cliche but all of them. If I have to say it tho... Before it all goes dark... For one last second I know I wasnt alone... (BSD - SSKK) simply because its near and dear to my heart. I put a lot of effort into it in a limited time frame and I had a great time traumatizing some people with the mean twist. haha.
Tagging: Everyone who would like doing it. Most of my moots have already done this and so idk who to tag. <3

Not a Zucest shipper (more into Maiko) but that scene where Azula isn't wearing makeup and she and Zuko are in her bedroom and she's all touchy-feely towards him was honestly more sexual and intimate than the Zvtara cave scene. Honestly I would argue that Azula is a lot more on his mind than Katara, who only comes to mind when she's convenient for tracking down Aang. Heck, I would even argue Zuko has more chemistry and investment with Aang than he does with Katara.
Maiko might not be my OTP but it is still a personal favorite because MY GOD, these two are clingy with each other and it's so fucking cute.
Zuko and Aang's friendship is legitimately one of the best parts of the show, and, ironically enough, their dynamic is the closest the show ever got to the fanon zutara idea of "this hero can tell the bad guy has a heart and wants to offer him the chance of being a better person", only without the romance part - but it could have totally made for a perfectly reasonable endgame if just a few details had been changed.
Plus everything about them meeting the dragons was absolutely iconic, from "I don't care what people said, you're pretty smart", to Zuko suggesting they think about their place in the universe, to AANG ASKING ZUKO TO DANCE WITH HIM, to Zuko looking Aang straight (hehehe) in the face and going "You are source of my fire by the way. No homo."
I just love it whenever these two are on-screen together.
As for the bedroom scene between Zuko and Azula in the awakening... oh boy, did my mind go straight to the gutter the first time I saw it (and every time after that too).
Grey Delisle, iconic voice actor, former stripper, and former narrator of trailers for porno movies, really took a look at this scene of her character's older brother coming to her bedroom in the middle of the night and thought "Wouldn't it be really funny if I added some incest vibes here?" (not that the animation itself made it all that difficult).
And yeah, Azula was definitively in Zuko's mind ALL THE TIME. Like, this boy was trapped in a cave during a snow storm, Aang's soul had literally left his body and, for some fucking reason, he just... starts venting about the sister he has not seen in years. Like, I KNOW they are just setting up Azula as the villain of the second season, but that came out of nowhere!
And him imagining her as the blue dragon that represents temptation and is whispering in his ear stuff like "Just give into it" and asking when he will be going to his bedroom, even after he said he doesn't feel like sleeping... buddy. Buddy. What the hell is this?
Also I can't find that video anymore, but there was some panel Bryke was at in which they were "suggesting" many ships to the audience - and one just happened to be Azula and The Blue Spirit. If someone has a link to it, please send it to me because the audience's outraged reaction was the funniest fucking thing.
In case any of you want to see Grey being chaotic as fuck, and making Dante all embarrassed (and flirting with him) I recommend you check out these videos because they are HILARIOUS!

Why does Chara have these pink stickers on their cheek? Is it make-up, is it a skin condition, is it buttercup poisoning...
No, none of that, they are blushing! (I mean...can you really blame them? Wouldn't you be blushing too if you were just about to ask your "partner" to be together forever with you?)

A E I O and U for the fandom ask games! <3
Fandom Asks | Accepting!
Sorry for the wait!
A - Ships that you currently like a lot. (They don’t have to be OTPs because not everyone has OTPs.) Friendships, pairings, threesomes, etc. are allowed.
Answered here, but another one I think about a lot is Stanley and the Narrator from The Stanley Parable. They're friends. They're enemies. They're in love. They hate each other. Their relationship is so convoluted and intertwined it's so interesting to explore every different aspect.
E - Have you added anything cracky/hilarious to your fandom? If so, what?
A while back I started writing one shots of The Life and Times of the Dragonborn Caria as a way to practice writing humour, so I would say I've definitely added some humour to Skyrim. Back when I was very active on the RP side of tumblr, there were soooo many crack threads and ideas being shared with the Fable side of it. I will forever fondly remember the gif I posted of a sibling jumping on a air mattress and launching the other into the air. I likened that to Logan and the Hero of Brightwall from Fable 3 and sooo many people found it funny.
I - Has Tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why?
Not really I don't think? I will admit to taking a 3 year break but I've never really ran afoul of any of the nastier sides of fandom.
O - Choose a song at random. Which ship or character does it remind you of?
Random shuffle gave me The Magick by WITCHZ. Gives me Reaver (Fable 2) vibes. Living for a long ass time he's gotta get bored at some point. I actually recall a lot of us in the Fable RP group talked about this and how Reaver reacts to some of the moments where he reflects on his past. This part of the pre-chorus especially
Got a pain of the mind Need some change in my life What is it I'm seeking Does this life have any meaning?
U - Three favorite characters from three different fandoms, and why they’re your favorites.
1. Vicenti Valtieri from Oblivion - Honestly I could not tell you why I love him. He's been my favourite since I first played the game. He's so honest with you and helpful and wants you to succeed. He even offers you the best gift he can, vampirism. 2. Ronan o' Connor from Murdered Soul Suspect - The main character of the game. Really interesting story, poor sod's just not having a good go of it, especially when you have to solve your own murder. 3. Sister Hannah/Hammer from Fable 2 - Absolutely love her. As a narrative device she plays a parallel to the player character. As a character, her arc is so interesting. She takes on the name she was given as an insult (Hammer) and makes it her own (and fucking rips a stone hammer off a statue which she uses as her main weapon for the entire game). Love her so much.

Throwback Thursday, Fandom Edition: "These are the things I would do for love."

Darren Hayes came to the Boston area on tour in April 2023. Although his set list included songs from his solo career, I (along with, undoubtedly, many others) attended his concert out of profound and unshakable nostalgia for Savage Garden, the band that he fronted in the late 90s, whose catchy choruses and clever, emotional lyrics provided constant accompaniment to my adolescence. “I Want You” knocked my socks off with its fast pace, rhythm, and imagery. “Crash and Burn” helped me to imagine truly supportive friendships even when I was lonely or when my own social life – or what passed for it – was full of drama. “Truly Madly Deeply”... wasn’t my favorite, actually, though I think it’s a perfectly decent love song and I understand why one of my summer camp friends remarked, “I wish that a guy would say this to me” when we listened to it in our bunk. I had enough “not like other girls” pretensions to make self-deprecating jokes about my fondness for handsome pop stars, even as I owned both of their albums, and referenced or quoted “To The Moon and Back” and “Affirmation” in the fanfic that I was writing at the time.
Even before I’d heard the word “fanfiction,” I happily associated songs with my favorite characters; I wasn’t immune to a well-placed needle drop in a movie or TV show, or even just a trailer. As with many fandom activities, I had absolutely no idea how many other people enjoyed doing the same thing until I discovered online fan communities. These days, fandom-relevant songs are quoted on Tumblr gifsets and compiled into Spotify playlists (although fanmixes have existed in some form or another before either of those platforms existed, and have actually introduced me to artists that I love); during those first few years on fanfiction.net, I was one of many writers who simply interspersed the lyrics with my narration. Although a quick tag search on AO3 suggests that today’s writers are at least familiar with the term “songfic,” it represents a trend that I can’t help but associate with the Fandom Days Of Yore. Sometimes our characters were singing the songs in question, or listening to them, or thinking about them; sometimes the lyrics were just kind of… there. In 2002, I used another Savage Garden song, “The Best Thing,” as the basis for a songfic about my X-Men: Evolution OTP.
A number of years ago, I wrote a lengthy post about my Lance/Kitty feelings, after marinating in Tumblr shipping discourse and trying to sort through my self-doubt about my longtime fondness for a Problematic™ pairing. I worried that it was morally irresponsible of me to not disavow, or at least feel and perform guilt about, the formative experience of shipping one of our heroes with the guy who threatened her life and the lives of her parents and friends. Today, I stand by most of what I tried to express in that post: although I could (and can) see the flaws in Lance and Kitty’s relationship more clearly as an adult, I also recognized how the fantasy of “reforming the bad boy” might appeal to Kitty, a fictional teenager, and also to the real teenagers who wrote fic about those two. And also, the show never argued that it was solely her responsibility to make Lance a better person. But I’m not sure that seventeen-year-old Nevanna was quite that analytical when she pounced on the seconds-long clip of Lance with an electric guitar in a third-season episode, and wrote a lengthy daydream sequence in which he played said guitar and sang to Kitty – “Walk on broken glass, make my way through fire… these are the things I would do for love” – before opening his eyes to his much harsher post-breakup reality. I dedicated that fic to two of the most devoted “Lancitty” shippers I knew, one of whom was writing a Season 1 AU about our OTP and would later become a dear friend.
In the LiveJournal fandom of the 2000s, authors sometimes provided “director’s commentaries” for their fanfics, an activity that I still think is awesome and would love to see make a comeback. In 2006, at the request of that same friend, I shared an annotated version of my songfic for “The Best Thing” (which I’d reposted to fanfiction.net without the lyrics when the site banned songfics). In my notes, I all but apologized for loving Savage Garden as a teenager and referred to them as “one of my guilty-pleasure bands,” because even though I’m not sure I actually felt guilty for listening to their songs, I apparently wanted anyone who might be reading my LJ to think that I did. It wasn’t the first time that I tried to undercut my fannish joy with affected detachment, and it wouldn’t be the last, especially – but not only – as my anxiety about my Problematic™ past or present storytelling preferences took hold.
While I was working on this post, I found a lovely interview in which Darren Hayes talked about coming to terms with his sexuality, reflected on his musical legacy, and expressed his appreciation for the young women who formed the majority of his, and Savage Garden’s, fans. I like to think that some of those fans also linked their favorite lyrics to their favorite fictional characters and relationships. I hope that the pleasure that fans – of any gender – get from the music, and from whatever narrative associations they choose, brings them as little guilt as possible.
By the time Darren ended his 2023 concert with “The Best Thing,” I had already teared up at least once, when he shouted to the audience, “Thanks for growing up with me!”

#I agree you should do some vessel x vessel content #also I hope you don't take this little jab at you the wrong way #I just couldn't not see the character/word amount to that list #after you talked like it was gonna be tiny!
I SHOULD...
Also LOL not at all! I am not offended. It's not so much that my list of vessel ships is smaller it's just that so much of my fannish energy goes towards, well, especially a few specific voices.
Not even including poly ships, though...
Broken/Contrarian, Broken/Hunted, Broken/Paranoid, Broken/Skeptic, Broken/Smitten, Broken/Stubborn, Cheated/Contrarian, Cheated/Hero, Cheated/Hunted, Cheated/Opportunist, Cheated/Skeptic, Cheated/Stubborn, Cold/Contrarian, Cold/Hero, Cold/Hunted, Cold/Narrator, Cold/Paranoid, Cold/Skeptic, Cold/Smitten, Cold/Stubborn, Contrarian/Hero, Contrarian/Narrator, Contrarian/Opportunist, Contrarian/Paranoid, Hero/Long Quiet, Hero/Narrator, Hero/Paranoid, Hunted/Opportunist, Hunted/Paranoid, Hunted/Skeptic, Hunted/Stubborn, Narrator/Paranoid, Opportunist/Paranoid, Opportunist/Skeptic, Opportunist/Smitten, Paranoid/Skeptic, Paranoid/Stubborn, Skeptic/Smitten, Skeptic/Stubborn, Smitten/Stubborn
(Yes, I included Narrator in the voices list, and also one count of shipping one of them with the Long Quiet, but I feel like that's fair! That counts!)
It's not that I ship most of these any more strongly than my vessel ships, either. A lot of them are in the same "a bit/theoretically" area. The ones I ship strongest are probably Broken/Hunted, Cold/Paranoid (my OTP), Contrarian/Hero (my secondary OTP), Contrarian/Opportunist, Hunted/Opportunist, and Hunted/Stubborn. Maybe round out my Top 10 with Cheated/Skeptic, Contrarian/Narrator (though tbh I like it most by far as Contrarian/Hero/Narrator), Opportunist/Skeptic, and Opportunist/Smitten.
So is anyone out there but me shipping the princesses with each other or?
#41 words 691 characters 651 characters without space#actually counting i have 41 vessel ships and 40 voice ships#i'm just only really like... super duper hardcore obsessed with 2 ships so it's hard to tell LOL#slay the princess#slay the princess spoilers#i just tag any post that talks about the protagonist as tlq as that don't mind me#the voices#shipping#i should update my ship list tbh#also include my vessel/voice ships and the like in it#though that list would be muuuch shorter honestly#ETA: I DID IT and i forgot a few ships when i was listing here whoops

oh, you doin' this too? (referring to the ask game) Tell me your Contra thoughts :3
[ask game here]
Ohoho, a total surprise that you would ask about the blorbo... >:3
First impression
OHHH I LOVE HIM IMMEDIATELY. FUNNY GUY MESSING WITH THE NARRATOR 💕 (Paranoid is the voice I love most, but I think Contrarian was the one I most quickly loved...)
Impression now
I still absolutely love them, honestly even more now! Unlike with Paranoid, where I was a little worried about her shtick getting old, I unexpectedly did start finding Contrarian's shtick a little old on occasion (okay, mostly in the Wild chapter going the Networked route, where I felt like Connie was messing with the tone of things a bit too much, and I was a bit more eh on them in Fury than some people seem to be though I've come around on that!). But with the full context of the Stranger versions of the endings and even seeing the Wounded Wild version of things with them... Oof, I adore them and they just completely fascinate me, that they have so much character development in this little visual novel where they're basically a side character... And I just adore jesters in all fiction and so I 1000% agree with all the Jester Contrarian people out there! Love them so much!!!!
Favorite moment
I mean, the Stranger version of the ending, honestly. Though to be more specific, I love the way that throwing the blade out the window comes back around in the Stranger ending -- especially if you choose to do it, giving Contrarian their unexpected third beat and them finding it funny that you did it even though this time they discouraged it.
Honorable mention to the little moment they have when you meet the Wounded Wild properly, though. While they discourage you from slaying her by saying it's going against what the Narrator wants, their voice just sounds so shaken that it's obvious that's a justification. Connie really doesn't like seeing the state the Wild is in and doesn't like thinking about hurting her further like this. It goes to show that he can get that Stranger ending development even if you don't go for the Stranger ending, and I love that!
(Also honorable mention to the way they deliver two of their lines in No Way Out: "Too late, because we already did it, didn't we?" and "You're not the only one who can figure out how to do things" are just such fuckin funny lines mostly on the strength of their delivery!)
Idea for a story
I NEED TO CONTINUE [Wear whatever feathers you choose.] I REALLY DO...
But okay, other ideas!
I love the possibility that I believe you brought up at one point, of Contrarian and Cold hanging out and egging each other on to do reckless shit but Cold straight-up getting hurt from it and Contrarian panicking because they hadn't wanted that and hadn't quite expected Cold to go that far.
I could also really love an exploration of how to get, or what it might be like to get, Contrarian in either version of Wraith or in Thorn... Or even a theoretical Stranger Chapter III (likely with Cheated)!
Unpopular opinion
I'm not really sure I have any, honestly! I think a lot of people have similar but different takes on Contrarian and nothing I could say is that unpopular... I guess maybe that pre-development, they were more of an asshole in-game than some people seem to think, but also less of one than others seem to think? (They did reassure Hero multiple times in the Stranger chapter, after all!)
Favorite relationship
Oh, absolutely, romance-wise ContraHero is my secondary OTP for this game! Platonically, though (...and okay in some cases romantically), I am really into Contrarian's dynamic and (potential) relationships with Broken, Cheated, Cold, Opportunist, Fury, Stranger, Thorn, Wounded Wild, and the Narrator.
Favorite headcanon
Contrarian being nonbinary is my absolute favorite thing! Some runners-up though: Human!Contrarian (or if Contrarian had to give a human name) would be Connie, Contrarian would absolutely get along great with Cold, and Contrarian would learn how to beatbox and get super good at it.

Jilly and hinny
You are going with the big guns here.
I ship both of them.
I've always loved both, but my first obsessive love was actually jily. I'll never forgive the marauders fandom for becoming such a toxic community that I can't even read jily fics anymore.
And hinny, I mean, hinny is the OTP. It's art, poetry, literally the perfect match.
Jily
What made you ship it?
You know, I genuinely don't remember. The marauders always attracted me as an interesting intellectual exercise: rebuild the whole story using the explicit and implicit information left in canon.
Plus, when I was younger I found the whole enemies to loves thing far more fascinating than I do now. And the extremely cool thing about jily is that it offers an enemies to lovers without making it toxic.
What are your favorite things about the ship?
The tension, the banter, the whole context around it, the symbolic implication of them being soulmates (you guys know I'm a sucker for that). Both of them are really good intelligent students, so you know equals, I love that.
And it falls under what I call the turning-tables trope. One is in love, the other isn't, the first apparently moves on, and then karma strikes. I love that so much, it's maybe my favourite trope, the universal punishment of it all but with a happy ending (as happy as an ending there can be for James and Lily).
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
It's absurd how under-used is the academic rivals' potential of these two.
Hinny
What made you ship it?
I don't have a specific moment, the movies unfortunately took that away from me. I was supremely confused by Ginny and hinny in the movies, and then I discovered that they were completely different in the books, and that's honestly the main reason why I read the books. It was all love from there. Also, besides the whole Harry and Ginny being a perfect match thing, it always attracted me the fact that it's a literary relevant narration. Rowling wrote it as a mystery to solve for Harry's brain, how cool is that? And Ginny is a true equal to Harry, which is such a rare thing for a character that it's so obviously the hero of the story. She is not his helper and her identity and trauma are not a tool for Harry's quest. I can't go into detail now, but Rowling basically invented a trope with them.
What are your favorite things about the ship?
You guys know how much I love them for many different reasons but, to avoid writing a book, I'll stick with number one: their falling in love does not depend on their story.
Harry starts to fall for Ginny when Ginny allows Harry to see her for who she is, that's it, that's all it takes.
They experience together a hyper-traumatic thing but it takes them two years, arguably two years and a half to become friends. Their relationship does not depend on shared trauma. Even after the lucky you scene, it's just Harry being reminded of who Ginny is in her entirety, it's not like after that they spend every waking moment together.
They share a sense of humour because they just do, not because they are constantly around each other. Even in PoA, when there should be so much awkwardness between them, they make eye contact and share the inside joke.
They understand each other because they just do, again, it's not about them constantly being around each other. It's just instinctive. It's part of who they are. It doesn't even depend on their shared trauma. Besides the fact that they get each other really well even in CoS, the first time Harry realises Ginny can basically read his mind it's something about Ron.
They spend time with each other because they want to. It doesn't happen after the chamber, it doesn't happen because Harry is constantly around the Weasleys. It happens because now Harry knows who Ginny is. They are not even in the same class, and they don't really have the same friends. On the Quidditch team, there's no reason for them to interact so much with each other besides the fact that they want to.
Ginny actively tries to get over Harry but she can't.
Harry actively tries to stay away from Ginny but not even the risk of losing Ron's friendship is enough, because she is Ginny and he is Harry and that's really all it takes.
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
Probably I have many.
Let's go with: during HBP, if you take away the Voldemort-related stuff, you'll notice that Ginny becomes Harry's best friend. And again, if there hadn't been Harry's need to keep Ginny's safe that led him to not even think about involving her in the Voldemort-related stuff, Harry would have noticed too.

Mousie’s absolutely subjective, very biased Top 10 web novels list
Please note that this is hardly aiming to be objective, if one can even be properly objective about a work of fiction. It is 110% based on my preferences, which means this list is heavy on the angst and has nothing set in the modern day. It is also heavily danmei-centric, even though I read way more het romance than danmei, because for whatever reason, most of the danmei I’ve read has been insanely good.
10. Return of the Swallow - one of the two non-danmeis on this list. Smart and nuanced and with a large cast of characters. Our heroine is a long-lost daughter of the family that is brought back in and has to cope with familial struggles, crazy royals, court intrigue, invasion et al. It’s SO GOOD! There is romance with the sexy smart enemy general but honestly, it’s the heroine that is the main selling point for me.
9. Transmigrator Meets Reincarnator - the only other non-danmei novel on this list, this was my very first web novel and what drew me into this insanity. This is just a ton of fun, probably the lightest novel on this list, not an ounce of angst to be found. But it’s hilarious and features competent heroine and tsundere hero and I will always love it for opening a new world to me. Anyway, our heroine transmigrates into the novel as the female lead. Unlike the original lead though she doesn’t want to seek adventures and angst - she just wants to comfortably live with the wealthy, nice husband heroine has. Alas, said husband is no longer nice since he has previously lived this story where he was betrayed by FL and then transmigrated/reincarnated into the past. Oh well, the heroine opens up businesses and makes friends. And eventually, her husband realizes his wife is way different this time around. This actually doesn’t have much romance, not until close to the end, but this is so fun I don’t care.
8. Lord Seventh - I am only partway through this so far, but it’s already on the list because it’s smart and somehow intense AND laid-back (not sure how this works, but it does) and is honestly just a really really solid and smart period novel, with the OTP a cherry on top of a narrative sundae. Plus, I love the concept of MC deciding he is not going for his supposedly fated love - he’s tried for six lifetimes, always with disaster, and he’s just plain done and tired. When he opens his life in his seventh reincarnation and sees the person he would have given up the world for, he genuinely feels nothing at all. (Spoiler - his OTP is actually a barbarian shaman this time around, thank you Lord!)
7. Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation (MDZS) - oh come on, how are you even on this tumblr if you don’t know MDZS/The Untamed? This was my very first danmei and it’s so much fun! I love everything about it - the unreliable narrator, the looping structure, the main OTP, Wei Wuxian’s laidback, traumatized insouciance, everything. Anyway, the plot in the event you somehow transported here from 2005 is that the Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation, Wei Wuxian, was defeated by the righteous sects over a decade ago and fell of a cliff to his death. Only now that same Wei Wuxian opens his eyes in another body and everything that was supposed to stay in the past starts again.
6. Heaven Official’s Blessing (TGCF) - people either love its meandering narrative, picaresque structure and cast of thousands, or find it a detriment compared to much more compact MDZS. I love it even more than MDZS for those very qualities. It does have a rock-solid, darling OTP, but what really elevates it to me are the MXTX trademark combo of snarky/light tone hiding a ton of trauma underneath, the insanely intricate world-building, and what it has to say about the nature of grace and goodness. Xie Lian is one of my top 5 web novel characters and probably in top 10 from anywhere. Oh, and while MXTX’s stuff is not as angsty for me as Meatbun’s or even Priest’s, there are always exceptions, and there is one chapter in this novel that pretty much broke me and sometimes I still flashback to it and feel unwell.
Anyway, what is it about? There is a commotion in the heavenly realm - Xie Lian, the Crown Prince of a long-destroyed kingdom, has ascended to Godhood. That in itself is not so exciting. However for Xie Lian this is the third time (!!!!) as he’s ascended and lost his godhood twice prior. And now, the biggest joke of the divine realm is back, throwing the heavenly realm into chaos. And elsewhere, Hua Cheng, one of the four most powerful demons of that Universe, sits up and takes notice.
5. Golden Stage - my perfect comfort novel. Probably the least angsty of any danmei novel on this list (which still means plenty angsty :P) It also has a dedicated, smart OTP that is an OTP for the bulk of the book - I think you will notice that in most of the novels in this list, I go for “OTP against the world” trope - I can’t stand love triangles and the same. Anyway, Fu Shen, is a famous general whose fame is making the emperor antsy. When he gets injured and can’t walk any more, the emperor gladly recalls him and marries him off to his most faithful court lackey, the head of sort of secret police, Yan Xiaohan. The emperor intends it both as a check on the general and a general spite move since the two men always clash in court whenever they meet. But not all is at is seems. They used to be friends a long time ago, had a falling out, and one of the loveliest parts of the novel is them finding their way to each other, but there is also finding the middle path between their two very different philosophies and ways of being, not to mention solving a conspiracy or dozen, and putting a new dynasty on the throne, among other things. It always makes me think, a little, of “if Mei Changsu x Jingyan were canon.”
4. Sha Po Lang - if you like a lot of fantasy politics and world-building and steampunk with your novels, this one is for you. This one is VERY plot-heavy with smart, dedicated characters and a deconstruction of many traditional virtues - our protagonist Chang Geng, a long-lost son of the Emperor, is someone who wants to modernize the country but also take down the current emperor his brother for progress’ sake and the person he’s in love with is the general who saved him when he was a kid who is nominally his foster father. Anyway, the romance is mainly a garnish in this one, not even a big side dish, but the relationship between two smart, dedicated, deadly individuals with very different concepts of duty is fascinating long before it turns romantic. And if you like angst, while overall it’s not as angsty as e.g., Meatbun stuff, Chang Geng’s childhood is the stuff of nightmares and probably freaks me out more than anything else in any novel on this list, 2ha included.
3. To Rule In a Turbulent World (LSWW) - gay Minglan. No seriously. This is how I think of it. it’s a slice of life period novel with fascinating characters and setting that happens to have a gay OTP, not a romance in a period setting per se and I always prefer stories where the romance is not the only thing that is going on. It’s meticulously written and smart and deals with character development and somehow makes daily minutia fascinating. Our protagonist, You Miao, is the son of a fabulously wealthy merchant, sent to the capital to make connections and study. As the story starts, he sees his friend’s servants beating someone to death, feels bad, and buys him because, as we discover gradually and organically, You Miao may be wealthy and occasionally immature but he is a genuinely good person. The person he buys is a barbarian from beyond the wall, named Li Zhifeng. It’s touch and go if the man will survive but eventually he does and You Miao, who by then has to return home, gives him his papers and lets him go. However, LZF decides to stick with You Miao instead, both out of sense of debt for YM saving his life and because he genuinely likes him (and yet, there is no instalove on either of their parts, their bodies have fun a lot quicker than their souls.) Anyway, the two take up farming, get involved in the imperial exams and it’s the life of prosperity and peace, until an invasion happens and things go rapidly to hell. This is so nuanced, so smart (smart people in this actually ARE!) and has secondary characters who are just as complex as the mains (for example, I ended up adoring YM’s friend, the one who starts the plot by almost beating LZF to death for no reason) because the novel never forgets that few people are all villain. There is a lovely character arc or two - watching YM grow up and LZF thaw - there is the fact that You Miao is a unicorn in web novels being laid back and calm. This whole thing is a masterpiece.
2. Stains of Filth (Yuwu) - want the emotional hit of 2ha but want to read something half its length? Well, the author of 2ha is here to eviscerate you in a shorter amount of time. This has the beautiful world-building, plot twists that all make sense and, at the center of it all, an intense and all-consuming and gloriously painful relationship between two generals - one aristocratic loner Mo Xi, and the other gregarious former slave general Gu Mang. Once they were best friends and lovers, but when the novel starts, Gu Mang has long turned traitor and went to serve the enemy kingdom and has now been returned and Mo Xi, who now commands the remnants of his slave army, has to cope with the fact that he has never been able to get over the man who stabbed him through the heart. Literally. This novel has a gorgeously looping structure, with flashbacks interwoven into present storyline. There is so much love and longing and sacrifice in this that I am tearing up a bit just thinking of it. If you don’t love Mo Xi and Gu Mang, separately and together, by the end of it, you have no soul.
1. The Dumb Husky and His White Cat Shizun (2ha/erha) - if you’ve been following my tumblr for more than a hot second, you know my obsession with this novel. Honestly, even if I were to make a list of my top 10 novels of any kind, not just webnovels, this would be on the list. It has everything I want - a complicated, intricate plot with an insane amount of plot twists, all of which are both unexpected and make total sense, a rich and large cast of characters, a truly epic OTP that makes me bawl, emotional intensity that sometimes maxes even me out and so much character nuance and growth. Also, Moran is my favorite web novel character ever, hands down.
Anyway, the plot (or at least the way it first appears) is that the evil emperor of the cultivation world, Taxian Jun, kills himself at 32 and wakes up in the body of his 16 year old self, birth name Moran. Excited to get a redo, Moran wants to save his supposed true love Shimei, whose death the last go-around pushed him towards evil. He also wants to avoid entanglement with Chu Wanning, his shizun and sworn enemy in past life. And that’s all you are best off knowing, trust me. The only hint I am going to give is oooh boy the mother of all unreliable narrators has arrived!
The novel starts light and funny on boil the frog principle - if someone told me I would be full bawling multiple times with this novel, I’d have thought they were insane, but i swear my eyes hurt by the end of it. I started out being amused and/or disliking the mains and by the end I would die for either of them.

Character Ask: Fet-Fruners/Făt-Frumos, the Princess Who Would Be a Prince
Tagged by @softlytowardthesun, in honor of Pride Month.
Here's a link to Andrew Lang's translation of the tale from The Violet Fairy Book.
Note: I'm describing the character with "he/him" pronouns, even though the story's narration uses "she/her" pronouns until the end. He happily ends the story as a man, so I can only assume that male is his preferred gender.
Favorite thing about them: Besides the simple fact that he's (arguably) a transgender or genderfluid fairy tale hero, I have to admire his sheer courage and array of skills.
Least favorite thing about them: His sexist machismo in the end, when he asserts that when he and Ileana (or Iliane, depending on the translation) are married, he'll be the one in charge: "it will be the cock who sings and not the hen."
Also, by modern standards, the fact that he has to be bodily changed into a cisgender man in order to live happily ever after with Ileana/Iliane. But of course in the time and place the story was written, the alternative would presumably never have been tolerated. Especially because they're going to be monarchs, so naturally they'll be expected to produce heirs.
Three things I have in common with them:
*I'm slightly androgynous.
*I'm a good cook.
*I'm (partly) of Eastern European descent.
Three things I don’t have in common with them:
*I'm not a warrior.
*I have no skill with horses.
*I'm a cisgender female.
Favorite line:
"For your sake, father, I would cut the devil himself into small bits, or even become a devil myself."
brOTP: The two helpful horses. In crossover-land, Ivan the Fool from the Russian tale of The Little Humpbacked Horse: they're basically variants of the same tale, except that the Russian story has no gender-bending and the hero is a peasant instead of a prince(ess).
OTP: Ileana/Iliane of the Golden Tresses.
nOTP: His father, the giant, or the emperor.
Random headcanon: He was always a transgender boy, or at least non-binary, never really a girl in disguise. This is why he's instantly overjoyed to be "cursed" with a sex-change in the end.
Unpopular opinion: His story deserves to be better known, and deserves to be retold in ways that tone down some of the gender essentialism in the original text. Not that this is an unpopular opinion among people who know the story, but I call it unpopular because it's such a little-known story in general.
Song I associate with them: None.
Favorite picture of them:
