What Exactly
closed starter for: @cursedvessels
based on: "what exactly is it i am to be remembering?" - james & françoise
...
Françoise stood among the filing cabinets, a stack of papers tucked neatly under her arm as she methodically flipped through the freshly dried files. The aftermath of that incident- when he had somehow managed to set off the fire sprinklers- had left her no choice but to dry the drenched documents herself, using a hair dryer from home before carefully returning them to their rightful places. It had been a tedious task, but despite its mind-numbing nature, she couldn't deny it had offered an opportunity. To assess not only her new partner's competence but also his uncanny ability to create chaos in even the most straightforward of situations.
Her gaze remained fixed on the files as she worked, her movements deliberate and precise. "The meal you haven't touched, the prospective client arriving in an hour, and our late evening flight." She replied, her voice calm but carrying an undercurrent of expectation. With a pause, she added, "Have you packed?" The question itself was neutral, she simply hoped he hadn't left everything until last minute. "The notes from my call with Miss Anderson are on your desk." She continued, her told polite yet firm, as if expecting a barrage of clarifying questions- or better yet, dismissals. In lieu of waiting for a response, she simply returned to her task, intent on finishing this project before it was time to head to the airport. The idea of coming back to a neat office serving as her guiding light.

Opium.
For a moment, Françoise merely blinks. A series of pieces clicking into place, another detail to file away on the enigmatic Mister Wright. She remained tactfully silent, weighing whether this is simply another product of his troublesome nature for misdirection. Then, he mentions not being a junkie. Something tells me he's had to clarify this more than once. Despite her best effort to maintain a flat expression, she feels a flicker of guilt. Able to admit- if only to herself, that when he'd first named his 'medication', she hadn't ruled out the possibility it was for recreational use. It wouldn't have explained all of his more unorthodox behaviors, but it could account for some.
The next question was obvious: And what is your condition? An answer would settle a number of uncertainties, yet felt oddly delicate. Given the nature of their interactions thus far, pressing too hard might be a mistake, especially what she could only describe as his 'teetering temperament'.
So if you could please do as your told or be on your way, it would be very much appreciated.
A scoff threatens to rise, but years of social restraint keep it at bay. Memories of how she kicked her own bag in front of those passersby serving as a haunting reminder. He is still our patient.
Anymore questions you have can wait until after you administer the substance.
Françoise shoots him a sharp look before reaching inside her bag to retrieve a small, clear bottle and clean cloth. Dabbing the cloth a few times, she gently wipes his skin. Her hands move with deliberate precision as she steadies his arm against the desk, positioning the syringe over his vein. Inhale. She pressed the needle into his skin slowly, administering with careful attention. Her gazers flickered to meet his just once, unsure whether he should receive the full dose or only a fraction.
"Tell me when it's enough."
Already, she was chastising herself, unable to believe she had asked for the dosage amount after she'd already injected him with the darn needle. In my defense, we're not nurses. An attempt to justify, but it was swiftly buried beneath a barrage of others practically yelling: But you aren't thick!
A small smirk twitches up the corner of James' mouth when she finally gives a sharp 'deal' in response to his offered compromise. Really, this would have gone his way no matter how she chose to answer. If she wanted to be his partner, she would inevitably become his secretary in the process. If she wanted to walk out that door and never see him again, he would be out a secretary, but that was nothing new. Nothing he couldn't handle. In the end, there was no real knowing what answer he had expected nor which answer he had desired most. Yet the smirk on his face says his prediction had likely been correct, at least to some degree.
Fingertips nudge over the pile of cash in her direction--an upfront payment, in case she thought maybe she could wriggle out of their spoken contract without guilt by simply walking out the door. She certainly hadn't shown herself the type to do such a thing--with or without the money involved. Yet, it simply stood as a reassurance. Locking in the words exchanged.
He bites the inside of his cheek when she leans forward, asks what the vial contains like it's any of her business. Instead of brushing it off, though, he humors her demands with little to no shame.
"Opium," they state simply, firmly, like it was obvious. "At least, that's the simple answer." A quirked brow as their head tilts curiously. Eyes narrow at her, gaze flickering over her expression, studying. "Pain medication, perhaps an even simpler one." He shrugs, sucking in a breath as he stretches out his fingers. "And if you think me a junkie, Ms. Beauséjour, still your tongue. My uses are purely medicinal, non-recreational, and essential to my...condition."
A beat, pursing his lips as he shifts uncomfortably in his seat. There's a slight twitch of his eyelid, like he's holding back a wince causing his cheek to twitch. "So if you could please do as your told or be on your way, it would be very much appreciated." The closest thing to asking nicely he was going to give her. It's clear in the slight twitch in his fingertips, the way his muscles are tensed all over his body that he's growing ever impatient.
"Anymore questions you have can wait until after you administer the substance."

Cassandra and the Nevarran Accent
and how it is a perfect recreation of the dead Gothic language
Accidentally discovered that Cassandra Pentaghast's accent matches up flawlessly with the extinct language of the Ostrogoths, and the Visigoths of pre-medieval Europe a few years ago and many of you wanted to see my notes so ive polished them up as much as I feel like and I am blessing you all with them now
I'll start by just going over the gothic language basics and then giving some good examples of Cassandra speaking, I am not a linguistics or etymology expert by any means, I am just a dumb ass who really likes ancient languages so bear with me, and ask questions if i make no sense
Gothic Language Basics
Phonetics-
Gothic does have very similar pronunciation to other Germanic languages with a few differences from it Frankish, and roman neighbors.
I am focusing on the basic and grammar and pronunciation as well as the phonetic alphabet, Gothic had a runic alphabet so there are a few letter without direct cognates and those will be spelled as they are pronounced for convenience
Rules - E, and O are always long, I is always short, A and U have both short an long variations EI digraph pronounced as long eye IU falling diphthong as in ew AI and AU digraphs each with numerous pronunciations
Short vowels - a, aí, i, aú, u Long - ā, ē, ai, ei, ō, au, ū Diphthongs - ái, áu, iu Consonants - b, g, d, kwa, z, h, th, k, l, m, n, ya/ja, p, r, s, t, w, f, x/ks, hw Significant Phonetics and Grammar
A lack of a short o sound, shift to an au sound instead
typical pronunciation of th, as well as V and W
light emphasis on the "hwh" sound of WH
Guttural sounds on vowels a, au, o ,u, and on consonants k, g, h
partly pitch, partly stress accent (think swedish as a very melodic example, german for a more stress based example)
no switching of the v and w pronunciation as seen in some west germanic languages
no rhotic r
no evidence of the Germanic umlaut
The way that i was going to have audio of her speaking here but tumblr is being a fucking menace so you will just have listen for yourselves, but pay close attention to how you will hear inconsistent pronunciation of the short o sound as in cot, no pronounced rhotic r's, proper th pronunciation, as well as her unique stresses on many other vowels
this isnt even to mention her hallmark guttural ugh sounds which are so unbelievably consistent with gothic it makes my heart sing
Some bonus Geographical Evidence if we look at the neighboring countries and languages at the time gothic was in use we see The roman empire - heavy use of greek and latin, the Franks - origins of the french language, the saxons -an ancestors of modern germans, the britons -ancestor of modern day britain and the empire of hispania - modern day spain these match up extremely well with nevarras neighboring countries being Orlais, The Anderfels, Tevinter, The Free Marches, even the way the Antiva is seperated from Nevarra by Tevinter matches the way The roman empire is positioned bewteen the goths and hispania The direct equivilents match up as Nevarra -The Goths Tevinter -The roman empire Antiva - Hispania Orlais - The Franks Ferelden/The Free Marches - Briton/Germanic States The Anderfels - Saxony Considering how much this geography influenced the gothic language its reasonable to assume Orlais, Tevinter, The Anderfels and The Free marches should have had similar effects on nevarran language.
maps for reference

Primary source was this Gothic Grammar Guide by Joseph Wright from 1910 that was based on the king james bible translation done by 4th century gothic priest Ulfilas

Marble Hornets X Spider-Man AU
Jay Merrick = Peter Parker?
Brian Thomas = Miles Morales?
Tim Wright = Harry Osborn
Alex Kralie = Flash Thompson OR James Jonah Jameson (JJJ as a joke at first, but bro ... I don't think it's a joke anymore ... /J "JAY. GET ME PICTURES OF THE OPERATOR ON MY DESK BY TOMORROW OR YOU'RE FIRED.")
Jessica Locke = Mary Jane (Jay just thought she was the coolest person ever and wanted to be her friend so bad. WlW & MLM solidarity, I also love WLW MJ and Jessica being a lesbian is kinda confirmed I'm p sure)
Amy = Gwen Stacy
I can also see Brian as Peter ngl- but I don't see jay as Miles so- I don't like the MCU that much, so this is mostly just me thinking of Insomniac Spider-Man ngl, and I have yet to play the games so idk if Ned is in anything other than MCU, I don't really think ned fits any of them that well anyway
Tim being Harry Osborn was a solid from the start when I thought of this 5 minutes ago.

Help Me Understand
closed thread for: @cursedvessels
continued from: x
...
Why would you ask me that
There is little outward reaction in the face of his rage. There had been moments when when she'd witnessed him fraying at the edges, sure, but this was something else entirely. Deeper. Sharper. It dulled her own irritations.
Turning away, Françoise approached a side table. His attempted lie: fine, hung between them, unacknowledged but not unnoticed. If he’s fine, then my hair is naturally blonde and my eyes are green. Retorts left tucked away as she poured a glass of water. "Here." Would he drink it? Likely not. But she'd be damned if she didn't at least try to keep him somewhat hydrated.
His abrupt instruction to cancel the day’s engagements wasn’t unexpected, though it landed with a certain weight. A quiet sense of dread pressed at the back of her mind- one she set aside, momentarily, when he attempted to explain. She wasn’t particularly skilled at offering comfort, but she wasn’t immune to it either. The way he faltered...the tremor in his voice...it touched something in her. It was, perhaps, the only reason she didn’t scold him outright when he asked for a cigarette. The response was vivid in her mind: A cigarette? Absolutely not. You'll likely keel over, and how on earth would I explain it? But she said nothing of the sort.
“I’ll be just a moment,” she said instead, motioning for him to stay. Not that she thought he’d leave- per se, but still. She needed a few minutes in her own room to make the calls.
She was gone less than ten minutes. Enough time to apologize, to cancel the day’s appointments, and to field the inevitable: when would they like to reschedule. The first time, she hesitated. With a day lost, the remaining schedule would tighten. Their return flight was already set- but did it matter? After a moment’s pause, she rescheduled to Monday, ending each call with the same answer.
When the last call ended, she stood at the window, taking in the unfamiliar landscape. Her reflection in the glass was thoughtful, resolute. She had come to the conclusion she wouldn't be able to compromise the silent agreement made with herself: when it came time to depart, she would take him to the airport- but she would not board. Instead, she would remain behind to investigate. Alone.
On her way back, she tucked the carton of cigarettes into her coat pocket, uncertain whether giving one to him would help or make things worse. In the end, she relented, offering one with a quiet hand before lowering herself to the floor. She considered the edge of the bed, just for a moment, but thought better of it.
The floor would do. For now. "Do you need me to light it?"

All-Star Bracket Ships!
Good Morning, Good Afternoon, and Good Evening to all, depending on where you are in the world.
Below you'll find the ships who made the cut for the All-Star Bracket. You might notice there are 34 ships who made the cut, due to having the same amount of votes. Therefore there will be a preliminary round for the All-Star Bracket as well.
Down Far Below you will also find another submission form - this form is for submitting further propaganda and images to be used for ships. I have also added the Spreadsheet so you can all see the propaganda and images submitted. Repeat ships with additional propaganda and images are welcomed. I will also do my best to include previous propaganda for each ship. As of right now, I will provide one week to submit propaganda.

(SPOILERS if you haven't seen the show yet):

Mxy knocks over a display case that contains the Helmet of Fate. The mystical, god containing item, makes its first appearance, along with Doctor Fate, in More Fun Comics #55 (1940) the panels were done by Gardner Fox and Howard Sherman. The Helmet of Fate is the one controlling the body as it contains the god, Nabu, the Lord of Order. The helmet grants anyone who wears it magical powers and the mantle of the Doctor Fate. Usually the person most associated with the it is Kent Nelson but recent comics had Khalid Nassour take up the Doctor Fate name.
Next we see Mxy pass by the Cosmic Rod of Starman/Stargirl. In the
comics the original owner of the Cosmic Rod was Ted Knigh, the original Starman. The Cosmic Rod he wielded was about the size of a flashlight. It wasn't until Starman #4 (1994) (W: James Robinson, P: Tony Harris, I: Wade Von Grawbadger, C: Gregory Wright, L: John Workman) that his son, Jack Knight took the new and improved Cosmic Rod that his father made and used it for himself to take up the Starman name. The staff would then get passed on to Courtney Whitmore aka Stargirl who at the time took up the name Star-Spangled Kid, when Jack retired the Starman identity to raise his kid. Courtney took up the Starman name as Stargirl and used the Cosmic Rod to carry on the name. The Cosmic Rod gives its wielder flight and energy projection.
Mr. Mxyzptlk then passes over a flight ring in the display. Very good homage to the Legion of Superheroes. Originally the LoSH wore belts to allow their members to fly, but Brainiac 5 was able to make flight rings so they can be less encumbered by the belts as seen in the panel from Adventure Comics #329 (1965) (W: Jerry Seigel, P&I: Jim Mooney, L: David Huffine). The LoSH are a group of young superheroes from the 31st century who are from various parts of the galaxy that fight evil as a team. The group was inspired by reading the history of what Superman did and they want to uphold his ideals and legacy. If they do show up in the show I'll definitely talk more about them.
In another display we see the Soultaker Sword. The sword is associated with Tatsu Yamashiro aka Katana. It and Katana make their first debut in the Brave and the Bold 200 (1983) (W: Mike Barr, P&I: Jim Aparo, C: Adrienne Roy, L: Jim Aparo). The sword was forged by Muramasa, who imbued it with magical properties where whoever kills with the sword, steals the souls of the victim's. Tatsu's husband and children were unfortunately slain by the sword, wielded by her brother-in-law and Tatsu has since then taken the sword and use it to avenged those who were slain by him. Because of the swords magical properties, it can be used to harm Kryptonians. Yes magic is a weakness for Superman.
When we cut back to the League of Loises ship, Jalana goes Flamebird on everyone and name drops Comet. This is a very good homage to Comet the Super-Horse. Comet made his first debut in Adventure Comics 293 (1962) (W: Jerry Seigel, P: Curt Swan, I: George Klein, L: Milt Snapinn) Comet, along with Krypto the Super-Dog, Streaky the Super-Cat, and Beppo the Super-Monkey, formed the Legion of Super-Pets to save the Legion of Superheroes and Superboy from Brain-Globes of Rambat. Give Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow a read if you want to check out a really cool Comet story.
Krypton gets a name drop, Superman's home planet.
Someone on the MAwS team is a Kingdom Hearts fan.
Kryptonite is finally introduced in the show, the most well-known weakness of Superman's. Fun fact Kryptonite made its first appearance not in the comics but on the Adventures of Superman radio show in 1943. It wasn't until 6 years later in 1949 that Kryptonite is introduced in the comics in Superman #61.

At the League of Loises HQ we see MAwS Lois and Mxy walk down the hall with holographic projections of various Loises in the DC multiverse. The one on your left is obviously Lois Prime aka Fleischer Studios Lois the one on your right is Superman the Animated Series Lois. The one next to StAS Lois is Superwoman from Action Comics #60 (1943). The issue was created by Jerry Seigel and George Roussos where Lois dreams of having Superman's powers and saving the day.
As Mxy searches for his hat we see him open up a cache of various weapons that the Loises have collected. Some of them are pretty recognizable like the Card Captor Sakura staff that's by Mxy's head, Guts's giant sword from Berserk above Mxy on the second shelf from the bottom.
As the episode wraps up we see MAwS lois activate the data sphere she took from the headquarters and sees evil Supermen tearing up the city. The first we see is an homage to Overman from Animal Man #23 (1990) (W: Peter Milligan, P: Chas Truog, I: Mark Farmer, C: Tajana Wood, L: John Costanza) and the second is designed after Justice Lords Superman from the Justice League cartoon.
Overman is from a world where all superheroes are part of the government and each one is a clone from him. Justice Lords Superman is from the two-parter episode "A Better World" where his Flash died, Superman kills President Lex Luthor in retaliation and he and the Justice League become dictators. Gotta admit Superman does look pretty cool in that suit.
That will be it for this week's episodes Easter Eggs and references. If you made it this far down the post and want to see the other MAwS Easter Eggs and references post you can find them here:

Mike's Media Medley--November 2024
here's the second to last one of these this year before i do what i watched/played in dec post and then a post of my top 7 games and movies for the whole year :p got a little more proactive this month since i had some free time due to thanksgiving break so let's get started!
things i watched or played for the very first time this november--
Movies/Shows(2024 releases)--Wicked, Arcane season 2
Movies (non-2024 releases)--Run Lola Run (1998), Shaun of the Dead (2004)
Games-- Long Live the Queen (2013), Darkwood (2014), Hexcraft: Harlequin Fair (2021), Papa's Pizzeria Deluxe and Crime Scene Cleaner (2024),
Movies / Shows:
Arcane season 2
okay so i actually have a fair bit to say about arcane season 2 so i think i will save that for its own post but i didn't like it as much as season 1. im gonna give it like a 77.5/100. season 1 would've been a 90/100.
Run Lola Run (1998)
this is another movie i meant to see for its anniversary re-release and took a while to get around to but GOD this movie was weird and i really liked it i LOVE absurdism. the soundtrack was banging and there were just really interesting directorial choices here. it reminded me a lot of Good Time and i feel like i can almost trace a line between the two in terms of influence.
i think she should've broken up with her stupid boyfriend who looks a shocking amount like theo james tho
greatly enjoyed it. might rewatch it.
85/100
Shaun of the Dead (2004)
i meant to watch this on halloween but then I Forgor so it got rolled over into november. i thought it was pretty funny but i struggle to remember too much of it. it was written and directed by edgar wright so you know there was a lot of clever shit going on but also there were just some moments i remember making me go :/ but i dont entirely remember what. i think the movie really started losing me by the third act but i had a fun time watching it
70/100
Wicked
ok yeah it was pretty good
i wasn't really expecting to like this cuz i am just. NOT a musical person. like i liked hamilton but only because it wasn't like most other musicals and also ive literally never listened to all of hamilton LMFAO so i'm just not a musical person. that being said this WHOLE movie was really fun and i've seen it like 3 times
the set pieces (lots of real sets, and not cgi!) were beautiful and the character performances were all fun. ariana was like. surprisingly hilarious??? like i DID watch victorious growing up but i don't remember much so maybe i shouldn't be surprised. and cynthia put her whole fucking pussy into singing this thing
my only gripes are, based on what i've heard about the second half of the musical i wonder how they're gonna handle elphaba's sister + munchkin guy because i feel like they didn't do much here but that's a future problem for a future movie. and secondly i thought the. actual like. shooting of the movie was very bland considering its subject matter. like the camera is energetic ENOUGH for the musical scenes but i feel like it could be going crazier and don't even get me started on the LIGHTING of this thing but other than that. this was fun and i have a lot of the songs stuck in my head!
90/100
bideo games
Crime Scene Cleaner (2024)
haven't played a whole lot of this but it does scratch the same itch for me as like house flipper. i do have to be in the mood for those types of games though. this one has the addition of an incredibly awkward english translation so that's nice. i like the music stuff that's neat
Darkwood (2014)
ok so i played this for like 2 hours at a friend's and i was really trying to enjoy the Vibes but the inventory management stuff just like. kind of made it a slog. so i quit sawi
Hexcraft: Harlequin Fair (2021)
im gonna be honest i have no idea whats going on here i think its kind of just like. a Vibes and Atmosphere game. and i get what its going for as like this old school mmo type of things i think. i am enjoying it im just also stupid and dont get it yet. shout out to the estrogen pills filling up my inventory tho
Long Live the Queen (2013)
dog they got me doing spreadsheets. they got me writing stuff down with a pen and paper doing math. it's like disco elysium but instead of solving a murder you're trying to survive until your coronation and every roll of the die CAN kill you for ridiculous reasons what do you mean i need to invest in my decoration skills to beat the evil wizard fuck you im obsessed
Papa's Pizzeria Deluxe (2024)
ive never actually played pizzeria before! i appreciate that it's way more difficult than papa's freezeria but im gonna be honest some of these people need to be in jail for their pizza orders
