this might be too region specific for you, so I apologize in advance but I wanted to know about the usage of the word "papi/mami." from what i understand typically in the caribbean it's usually freely as term of endearment, and can potentially even be used flirtatiously (ie something like bad bunny's usage of it for example). do you know if that's the case for anywhere else, or is it just the caribbean (and i'm not even sure if it's the total caribbean since i'm not of its use in cuba or parts of venezuela/coast of colombia).

It's more of a Caribbean thing than Spain, I can say that - I don't know about all of Latin America but it is true that it's regional and usually associated with places like Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic

I want to say Cuba, and parts of Mexico also do this, I'm not 100% sure on Colombia or Venezuela

papi / mami can be used as terms of endearment, they can be used to flirt with people, in some places the diminutives [papacito or mamacita] can be really cute or used flirtatiously too

It used to be in fashion to call people things like papichulo which was calling someone really attractive like "hottie" but I don't think that's still in use

The other diminutives I know of that are more familial than romantic are saying ma and pa [I think it might be má and pá?] for "mom" and "dad"
