You’re Allowed to Lose Interest—Even If You’ve Poured Time Into It

At some point, we all outgrow something we once loved. Maybe it’s a hobby, a community, a show, or a career path. You used to be all in—spending time, energy, maybe even money—but now? Not so much.

The problem is, we convince ourselves we have to stay interested because we’ve already put in so much effort. (I'm lookin' at you, knitting) That’s the sunk cost fallacy talking, and it’s a load of crap.

"Marie Kondo" Your Interests

Marie Kondo says to get rid of things that don’t spark joy. Great advice for cleaning out your junk drawer or closet (ratty old hoodies, you no longer spark joy), but even better advice for your time and energy. If something no longer excites you, you don’t have to keep forcing it. You’re not obligated to stay interested in something forever just because you once were.

Sunk Costs Are Sunk—Let Them Go

The sunk cost fallacy is that little asshole voice whispering, But I’ve already spent years on this. I can’t just quit now! Except, yes, you can. Just because you’ve put time or money into something doesn’t mean you owe it a lifetime commitment. The only thing that matters is whether it still adds value to your life now. If it doesn’t, cut your losses and move on.

And yeah, we’ve all heard “Nobody likes a quitter.” But let’s be honest- nobody likes a miserable, burned-out jackwagon clinging to something out of sheer stubbornness, either. Quitting isn’t failure. It’s just refusing to keep throwing good time after bad.

Stop Making Up Dramas to Fill the Void

Here’s another thing I’ve noticed: When a steady source of content or engagement dries up—whether it’s a creator going silent, a group fizzling out, or a passion just fading—people lose their gotdamm minds. Instead of accepting the quiet, they start making up stories. And not just any stories—escalating, over-the-top, apocalyptic stories.

Did they disappear because of a scandal? Was there a secret feud? Is something awful happening behind the scenes? MIND CONTROL??!

No. Sometimes, things just stop. People move on. Not everything needs a grand conspiracy behind it. But because silence makes us uncomfortable, we scramble to fill it—even if that means manufacturing a crisis.

You don’t have to do that. You don’t have to buy into it, either. If something fades away, let it. If someone stops posting or participating, maybe they just had other shit to do. It’s not always a mystery to solve.

You’re Allowed to Change

Interests aren’t life sentences. You can be obsessed with something for years and then wake up one day and realize you just… don’t care anymore. And that’s fine. You can always pick it back up later, or not (still lookin at you, knitting). Either way, you don’t owe anyone (including past you) an explanation.

So if something no longer excites you, don’t force it. Just move tf on. There’s something better waiting on the other side of that empty space.

Not feeling up to a whole story but an idea, someone feel free to take it and run.

At some point, Amity gets noticed by the JL and the JLD moves in to try and shut down the portal. Unfortunately from what they can tell the portal has a link to something that prevents it being closed. Eventually they figure out the portal is linked to Phantom (though how idk). And as far as they can tell the only way to break the link and close the portal would be to destroy him.

Meanwhile Danny has managed to hide from JLD and stayed human because he is terrified after he saw them deal with Skulker easily. Not knowing that the JLD only were able to do so because Skulker has a tendency to slip out to hunt things from the occasional natural portal.

i appreciate so much that Siffrin doesn’t respond to Isabeau’s confession with immediate reciprocation, and instead has the self-awareness in that moment to ask for time to sort out how they actually feel

there ARE feelings there. but after everything, how much of them are really, truly Siffrin’s alone, and how much of them are Isabeau’s stagnant almost-confession, frozen and reflected back in on itself like mirrors facing each other—Isabeau, stuck reaching out but never touching, Siffrin, stuck aching for connection but never asking for it? they wanted something, in that moment. but removed from the reaching, do they really want this? does he want Isabeau, in that way, specifically, or was he only responding to the call in front of him out of desperation to be loved and to love back, in the way they thought that call needed to be answered?

he needs time outside of that situation to know for sure. to have a world and options outside those handful of repeating interactions, with both of them knowing the potential is there, but also access to the choice of acknowledging that potential and letting it go.

maybe they do! maybe they don’t! maybe they end up somewhere in between or outside of either of their expectations. maybe they get together and break up. who knows.

the point is, he has the chance to figure it out.

Months ago during the high peak of my Dr who obsession I did as I always end up doing and made pony designs. It started because I was reminiscing on the whole “Doctor Whooves” thing but I only ever did this and nothing else.

Didn’t quite intend to post them because I didn’t find them post worthy before but I’ve changed my mind, I think they’re okay. They were certainly fun to make!

But that couldn’t be further from the truth. Jumin loves being surrounded by you. Everything represents you. He’ll examine every nook and cranny so he can know everything about you, your interests and preferences and the things you like.

It makes him dread going back to his penthouse. Your house is a home. His is just a place to live.

it just hit me as to why i’m…. kinda okay with the bucktommy breakup?

it’s because we’ve done this before. during the summer.

the breakup very much reads as something that’s temporary. a third act romcom breakup that’ll end in the main couple getting back together stronger than ever. that might be me coping because the alternative makes me sick, BUT THE POINT STILL STANDS—

it doesn’t read (to me) as a final breakup, so all that’s left to do is… wait. wait and see how they handle this, and in the mean time, i’ll be enjoying the headcanons and fanworks that this fandom is creating, like i did over the summer.

i said “When will my husband (Tommy Kinard) return from The War…” so many times during the summer hiatus, and i’m saying the same thing now… and i feel the same. the meaning and sentiment of that phrase hasn’t changed. except now The War isn’t just the hiatus, it’s also the breakup.

so for that one magical girl story i was talking about like 25 posts ago, i was thinking about what to name the characters--it's obviously inspired by the tumblr post, but I actually don't really like the name magical girl sparkle sparkle sunshine and plus that's literally like. stealing. so i'm thinking of a new naming scheme. cause you know all magical girl media has some sort of naming scheme. like sailor moon. all the characters are named after astral bodies and stuff. like sailor moon sailor mars sailor jupiter etcetera.

And that's fine. but I wanted something slightly different. say, what about major tarot arcana? Those are loaded with symbolism and stuff! Since a lot of the premise of magical girl media is that it's based on emotions and the like, and Magic knows you, better than you know yourself, i figured: it would make sense for the names these magical girls are bestowed by Magic represent their personalities but are not what the girls would choose for themselves. cause otherwise the main protagonist would absolutely name herself like magical girl man man or some horse shit.

anyway, what about major tarot arcana? There's a couple problems:

I could easily do a name for the easier arcana, my plan is to do more oblique references than just calling them Magical Girl The Star, so it would be like Magical Girl Gleaming Starlight or something, but this runs into some problems when you get to the more, say, obvious tarots. like what the fuck do you do with The Hanged Man? Magical Girl Sparkling Gallows??? this is nothing

there is a distinct lack of possible characters if following these rules. You can't have more than 22 magical girls all with this naming scheme. 21, actually, since I wanted the protagonist switch names when she figures out her character arc. JJBA had this problem. They started out naming the stands after tarot cards (star platinum, magician's red, the world), but straight up ran out of tarot cards and named stands after egyptian gods (horus, baphomet, atum), and when they ran out of those, they just did music stuff (tenor sax, cream) which they kept for the rest of the series.

so like. what do i do. about that.
