IMO Peter Lorre as an eerie, slightly jumpy but uber fastidious Hercule Poirot in a big budget noir adaption would have been so iconic. Lorre did some b-movie detective films, but with someone like Fritz Lang directing it would have been truly mesmerizing take on the character watching him question suspects. My one concern is that Lorre’s Hungarian accent couldn’t have been passed off as Belgian so Poriot might have to be rewritten as a Pole who fled the Nazis.

Who would play Hastings? It’s out of left field but considering actors who might have actually done the role back in the day a young Raymond Burr might have actually been a great choice for an American Hastings.

There's a certain cognitive dissonance to watching Angela Lansbury play a femme fatale type, but she does it quite well, and this is rather an entertaining yarn.
