◬ ~ Avengers' Hobbies ~ ◬

Here are some hobbies and interests that I think the Avengers will have when I shift, including my own that I already have here. I will probably update this when I shift and we'll see if I'm right! Some of these are canon, but I'm throwing them in here for fun anyway.

▲ Tony ~

△ Rubik's cube (and other little puzzles) - That brain of his must have mastered it in a day, so he probably does it mindlessly while he thinks.

△ Formula 1 - As seen in the MCU. But it's SO fitting for him, I just have to put that out there.

△ Concerts - He loves a good party and, based on his t-shirts, he seems to love music. I wouldn't be surprised if he just hangs out on the side of the stages because he's Tony Stark and can.

△ Design - He's made quite a few suits, so I can see him really getting into the creative aspect of things. This applies to all of his inventions too. They have to look as "cool" as he does, right?

▲ Rhodey ~

△ Reading - Give this man a newspaper or a biography or something, he'll be set.

△ Pool & Ping Pong - Somehow, someway, he's just way better at both of these than 94% of the population. And yes, he will definitely rub it in your face.

△ Piano - I feel like his mother or grandmother taught him how to play when he was young so it's a very sentimental talent of his.

▲ Peter ~

△ Photography - Obviously. That little stinker is too talented for his own good.

△ Tinkering in the Lab - Based on his enthusiasm in the MCU, I think he spends a lot of his time just messing around in the lab, even if he's alone, though of course he prefers to have company. He gets so excited when an idea of his works.

△ Quality Time - Like I mentioned, he likes company. He might be a little awkward sometimes, but I think that's what makes that time with people mean so much to him. It makes him happy to know that people want to hang out with him.

△ Slacklining - Hear me out. He uses his webs to create a makeshift slackline across buildings or whatever. Maybe he's on a stakeout and gets bored, I don't know, but he's damn good at it.

▲ Bruce ~

△ The Opera - As we saw in the MCU, he uses music to calm himself down. But I think he has a deeper connection and fascination with it than most may notice. There's something about the harmony between all of the instruments and voices that mesmerizes him. He could go on and on about it, and I can't wait to listen to him rant when I shift!

△ Scientific Research - If he's not the one doing the research, then he's reading all about it. He loves hearing other people's discoveries and he craves getting all the knowledge he can.

△ Meditation - With all of the Hulk nonsense, he got into it to help his anger. Maybe it works sometimes and doesn't other times. I don't know, but I think he has grown to love the process.

▲ Thor ~

△ History & Storytelling - As we know, he loves sharing stories of his own, but I think he also enjoys hearing them from others. He might one up them afterwards... Still, though. He really likes learning about makes people and places the way they are: their history and experiences.

△ Tests of Physical Strength - He has strength, a lot of it, and he likes to show it. He loves competitions between the Avengers (and winning). Even tug of war, he'll be there.

△ Singing - He sings in the shower. There's no way he doesn't. And he's actually quite good. For some reason, I feel like he might not do it in public much (unless he's drunk or joking around). Maybe it's an Asgardian culture thing.

▲ Scott ~

△ Scott is just excessively talented for no reason. He can learn any skill. It's actually kind infuriating. Anyway, I'll list a few.

△ Magic, Drums, Arts and Crafts, Card Games, Juggling, etc...

▲ Pietro ~

△ Sports - He's ridiculously athletic. He has mastered every sport. He probably doesn't even need his powers to be good at them. He's just a boss man like that. I do think his specialty is soccer (football, I know; I'm American, I'm sorry), as in I think he probably played it as a child and was obviously the best.

△ Wii Sports - He's unstoppable. No one can beat him. He has set impossibly high records. Still, he loves playing them so much.

△ Just Dance - Yeah, it's the same situation as the Wii. Those hips don't lie. Unfortunately, this means that it's very hard to convince people to play with him. He happily plays by himself, but of course it's more fun with other people.

▲ Wanda ~

△ Cooking - As seen in the MCU, but I'm so excited to taste her creations, are you kidding? I bet she finds all sorts of cute recipes on Pinterest too.

△ Ukulele - I remember seeing a guitar in her room in the Compound (Civil War I think?), but I think she started with a little ukulele! Maybe her parents bought her one for her birthday and she was devastated that she lost it during the incident we shall not name. She's such a sweetheart, I can't.

△ Crochet - She could probably crochet using her powers with her eyes closed. I also think she likes doing it to practice her control of her powers for precision purposes.

△ Jigsaw Puzzles - Just like I previously mentioned, I think she enjoys it for practicing her powers, but I also think she likes the peacefulness of it.

▲ Clint ~

△ Pool - Remember when I said that Rhodey is better at pool than 94% of the population? Yeah, Clint is the one person he can't beat. His aim is unearthly.

△ Harmonica - This guy will whip out a harmonica out of nowhere (one of his many pockets) and give the crew a nice little tune. He's quite skilled too. Name any song and he'll learn it for you in an hour.

△ Card Games - He may act nonchalant or like he doesn't really care about the game, but he will turn around and win with one incredible move and blow everyone's minds, then shrug like it was nothing. That brain is bigger than we give him credit for, I'm calling it right now.

△ Surfing - He just has that vibe. Not the stereotypical surfer dude, but a guy who will casually surf a forty-foot wave after he finishes a mission in Fiji or something. He's cool like that.

▲ Nat ~

△ Ballet - Despite all the trauma associated with it, I think she still has a soft spot for dancing. It was such a major part of her life for so long, so maybe she does it to heal her inner child.

△ Yoga - She has to stay flexible somehow, right? Also, I think she'd enjoy doing it to calm down after a mission or when she's stressed.

△ Aerial Silks - Speaking of flexibility... Same goes for this! She does all sorts of cool tricks too.

△ Hair - Her hairstyle changed like every movie, who has time to go to a hairdresser when you're a super spy? That lovely lady learned to cut and dye it herself, and I'm sure she'd happily do it for others if they ask. (*Nat and Steve will be together in my DR and I bet she cuts his every time!)

▲ Steve ~

△ Drawing - As seen in the MCU. He definitely doodles during meetings.

△ Calligraphy - Writing in cursive was way more common and just what everyone did. So, due to his physical limitations, I think he probably spent a lot of time practicing his penmanship and perfecting its art form, especially while he was sick. Drawing and writing were two of his major pastimes.

△ Running - Since he kind of couldn't, or rather, couldn't to the average extent or the extent he wanted to, he takes advantage of his abilities now. He loves the rush too. Can't relate, but go you, Steve!

△ Museums - He likes catching up on what he missed, but also enjoys the stories the world holds. He has always like history, so learning everything about the past seventy years and the rest of time keeps him busy.

▲ Sam ~

△ Cooking - As seen in TFATWS. But I also think he loves food and is totally a food critic, so obviously he wants to have the best cuisine on deck whenever he wants.

△ Psychology - Since he was a counselor for veterans, I think psychology interests him a lot more than some think. He may be a goof, but there's some wisdom inside him too.

△ Chatting - It's his favorite thing to do. He could talk for days straight. He loves it so, so much.

△ Board Games - He might get a little distracted during card games, thanks to the chatting, but if a board game is pulled out, he is completely invested. There's something about the map-like structure that makes his brain spark.

▲ Bucky ~

△ Reading - As seen in TFATWS. He loves a good fantasy book to take his mind to a different, sometimes better place.

△ Welding - He would be so good at this. I don't he did this exactly on Sam's parents' boat, but I'm sure he has the mechanical experience.

△ Repairs - As seen in TFATWS. I think he really likes fixing things, having the control to make something right and doing it, even if it's something small like a leaking faucet. It makes him feel helpful.

△ Gardening - Hear me out, stay with me. Imagine how much love and effort he would put into a couple plants, even if they're just houseplants. That nurturing side of him that he showed to Steve in the forties must still be in there. He wants to nurture something (and someone, aka me lol) in the way no one did for him when he was a slave for HYDRA. And once he masters it, he's damn good at it.

△ Games - As seen in TFATWS. There's playfulness in him past the brooding.

▲ Me ~

△ Abstract painting - I've been painting for a few years now and I love it! I just play some music and zone out, letting the paint take me away... I'm excited to make some art for people's birthdays and whatnot when I shift, just like I do here!

△ Baking - I definitely prefer baking over cooking. Give me a recipe and I can make anything. Plus, I have a major sweet tooth. My CR mom tells me that baking is my love language and she's not wrong.

△ Writing - Creative writing is my passion! I have so many possible book ideas, we'll see if I actually write any of them someday. I certainly want to!

Casino cups headcanons and general cuphead headcanons

Casino Cups takes place in 1933, the soul collecting crap took place 3 years earlier in 1930 when the cup bros were 15.

Mugman owns a few more guns than just the shotgun shown in his closet. 

Mugman occasionally goes out as Tallulah and has a group of friends who also enjoy cross dressing. 

Mugman has definitely dated and had crushes on quite a few people even if it was just for a short while. How do you think he realized he was bi?

Cuphead is the better at cooking out of the two brothers. Mugman could get to his brother's level if not better but he never really practices.

Cuphead isn’t very picky with food at all and will eat almost anything. Mugman is picky but will often just force the food down anyways.

Cuphead has great potential with instruments he’s just never tried because he thinks it would be too hard.

Paimon and Cuphead are great friends and bond over how they don’t like people bugging them about relationships. (I headcanon that Paimon is aro ace). Paimon also knows that Cuphead would be really good at playing instruments and keeps offering to teach him. Though Cuphead doesn’t really wanna learn. Though still Paimon nags him about it and knows that he’d be great at it. Which is a surprise to most others since Paimon is very picky about who she picks for her band (I headcanon she has a band who sometimes plays at the Casino or just in hell for money and for fun).

Her plan is to get Cuphead good at at least one or two instruments before she starts his other plan to nag the Devil about letting Cuphead work for her.

His camel isn’t a huge fan of Cuphead though (or anyone really).

The Inkwell Isles are in the Mediterranean Sea just somewhat west of Greece and used to be considered a part of it. 

The Inkwell Isles turned out a lot like America due to the Isles being seen as a good place for immigrants to start anew.

Every once in a while religious groups try to come to the Isles to convert the Isles and spread beliefs. They usually die to gangs or demons pretty fast.

Prohibition still happened on the Isles (this is confirmed by an image about the Tipsy Troops childhood) but it ended after only a few years and didn’t last till 1933 like how it did for America.

Speaking of the Tipsy Troop they had a horrible childhood. Their parents were poor and their mother nearly died having them (they’re triplets). The Troop nearly died a ton of times as children and were put into harsh work environments to make ends meet as children. The reason they keep to the sidelines of the casino is to avoid the risks of getting too involved with casino business despite having worked at the casino for a long while. Their parents died when the troop were around 13. 

Ginettes olive just kind of appeared there one day and she never questioned it. Sometimes she nibbles on between shifts.

Hocus Pocus only became an anthropomorphic rabbit due to an accident with a circus magician he used to work with. Said magician was also the one to teach Hocus most of his tricks and is Hocus’s main inspiration. That magician was like a father to Hocus and was the one to give Hocus the opening to escape the traveling freakshow. Hocus still misses that magician but madness is making him forget more.

Pip and Dot were sold to the freakshow by their parents who never wanted kids, Hocus was just a random talking rabbit the freakshow owners picked up off the street.

The 4th isle still exists but not many people live there and it's considered dangerous due to constant feuding between the Moonshine mob and other smaller gangs. Along with the fact that the island is mostly used for military training (aka The Howling Aces). The 4th isle also has a huge smuggling business with the Moonshine Mob making alcohol to ship to the other isles and other countries. 

Chef Saltbaker also made a deal with the Devil to be the best baker in the land. Then proceeded to steal the contract and burn it with some hell fire he got his hands on. His original wish was to have control of the astral plane but that type of thing is out of the Devil's power and even if he did have that power he would not give it to Chef Saltbaker. The Devil and Chef Saltbaker have a massive hatred of each other and Saltbaker stays on the 4th Isle to be away from the Devil.

Chef Saltbaker and Porkrind were friends a long time ago. Though once Saltbaker started studying powerful magic for nefarious reasons Porkrind split away from him and dislikes him. Though he still hopes that one day Saltbaker will give up on the astral plane crap and go back to the good person he used to be.

Esther Winchester and the Salon are located in a small town on Isle 4 in the desert. The only reason the Moonshine Mob haven’t been disbanded yet is because Esther only works in that area. She’s a very competent sheriff and great at cracking down on criminals.

On the other hand though the Ant cops are the opposite. They actually have deals with the Moonshine Mob and are pretty corrupt and incompetent. Another reason to not go to Isle 4. 

A lot of the members of Mortemer Freeze’s cult were created by Mortemer himself though he denies it. The more members the more imposing the cult seems. The ant cops are aware of how bad the cult is yet refuse to do anything about it due to being afraid.

The librarian owl hates his job

The reason that all the buildings look so cramped together on the isles is because of the high tides. Cala Maria and the large fish she has make huge waves when they swim around the Isles. Also the closer the Earth is to the moon and the fuller the moon the more the tides rise. When Hildaberg transforms into her moon form the tides get very messed up due to how close she is to the Earth even if she is in crescent shape. Go to the beach at your own risk. BrinyBeard is grateful to be alive.

Dr. Khal lives in the junkyard in the house and lab he made there. He lost his previous job due to concerns of him being insane and using lab materials for personal projects. Cuphead was right about Khal planning to use Mugman for some sort of experiment but Khal was waiting for the right moment. He waited too long though.

Pachinko is quiet not only because it's just part of his personality but he’s from Japan and isn’t good with the isles languages. Also he literally skates around the casino on those wheels he’s got. He’s fast and efficient and often zooms past fast enough that no one really gets to see him or talk to him. He also has a teensy crush on Mugman, just hasn’t realized it yet. 

Pirouletta is fully aware of Pachinko’s crush and actually introduced Pachinko to Mugman because if she didn’t Pachinko would be too shy to talk to him.

Baroness Von Bon Bons candy realm from the show is still here but the rules only apply to those who go in deep enough. That’s why the cup bros were able to eat some of the sweets from there without issue.

I Wanna Play Deltarune Ch. 3+4 but I Have No Time: So Have This Analysis of Alphys and Mettaton Through the Lens of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein Instead

So, I was/ still am writing an Undertale epic that explores the friendship of Mettaton and Alphys because I want to study it like a bug. However, life got in the way, my kid took over my life, and I've been on kind of a long hiatus.

I still love them though.

Anyway.

One of the age old debates I wanted to weigh in on is who was at fault for this friendship falling apart, and my answer is:

Neither one of them holds the sole responsibility for what fell apart nor does one of them hold more responsibility than the other for putting it back together. This is my truth. I'm sticking to it.

Alphys is a morally grey character, and this is a good thing!

We need more characters who are not all good and not all bad.

She regrets what she has done wrong.

She hurts her friends by lying compulsively to try to make herself seem better than she is.

And, hear me out, she quite literally holds Mettaton hostage by not finishing a body she promised him to relieve his literal dysphoria because her anxiety surrounding experimentation is so bad post-Amalgamates.

I say all this while loving Alphys! She's an amazingly complex character.

She's anxious. She's passionate. She's *real.* Despite being a "monster," she's surprisingly human in the way she reacts to things and thinks through them.

I love that about her.

She's so delightfully nuanced!

Because, she also cares about people and connecting with them.

However, her personal insecurities prevent her from being able to do that consistently and well.

On the subject of communication, Alphys has a hard time with literally communicating in methods outside of texting. That's fine. However, what's not fine is to decide your friend won't talk to you when you don't reach out/ when you refuse most methods of communication.

Alphys doesn't answer the door, the phone, letters ... the only thing she does is text. Which, again, it's all well and good to have a preferred method of communication, but it's hard to expect people to respond solely by text message - especially people who may read and forget to respond when they're busy.

(I say this as someone who loves my friends incredibly dearly but has pretty bad texting ADHD [and ADHD in general.] If I don't read and reply the moment I get the message, I won't reply. Ever. Especially if I clear the notification. I usually compensate by compulsively replying, but that can lead to burnout really fast especially because I have a small child, personal projects, and I work in theater.)

So, to expect someone who is pretty busy with his own life and personal projects to consistently answer and remember text messages is kind of a tall order. In my opinion.

Yet, I completely understand why Alphys is the way she is!

I don't blame her at all!

It's just an issue of competing needs.

But, BUT, that means we don't get to blame other characters who have a hard time communicating with her due to the nature of her communication style. It's clear from what Undyne says that Mettaton still hangs out with Alphys from time to time because he came over to her house with Alphys as we find out when Frisk visits her house in the True Pacifist Route.

So, though he may not be the most consistently helpful, how much of that is because of his and Alphys' competing communication styles and needs vs. him just being a tool?

Also with that in mind, a bulk of the Hotland story is filtered through Alphys' perspective and what she has asked Mettaton to do for her. Yet, it's also the "story" she has written for herself to play-act. It's not really her.

Both of them are acting!!!!

We don't get to see through the masks and facades of either of them until we literally **BREAK INTO THEIR HOMES.**

In the True Lab, we discover a side of Alphys that is brilliant, if a bit reckless. She really is the Dr. Frankenstein type. She acts first and then questions. She's obsessed with research and, only after her accident, does she question what she has done.

(In fact, I would not be at all surprised if some of her character creation *came* from Dr. Victor Frankenstein including his tendency to abandon his creations, lie, and become excessively anxious about what they were going to do once he abandoned him.)

So, like, Alphys very much fits into that same story.

In fact, in my fic, before the Amalgamate accident, when they were in the "human fan club," I wrote that Mettaton gave Alphys a copy of the novel Frankenstein that she didn't end up reading until she was struggling with the Amalgamates. That novel ended up saving her life, but she was too anxious to tell him about it. So, she didn't.

But, all that to say, we LOVE Victor Frankenstein. (Who many scholars actually believe was a potential metaphor for Mary Shelley's mother's Postpartum Depression.)

And, don't we also love His Creature?

The misunderstood monstrosity that goes on a murderous rampage to try to get his creator's attention?

The creation that goes calling out asking to be seen?

The one that compares himself to a *fallen angel?*

There are so many delightful parallels between Alphys and Dr. Frankenstein and Mettaton and The Creature.

Mettaton: The Unfinished Beauty of A Mad Scientist

I'm working on a book of poetry about the intersections between neurodiversity, the transgender narrative, and monster literature. I have been trying really hard to figure out how the poop to put these two quotes into conversation:

"Remember that I am thy creature; I ought to be thy Adam, but I am rather the fallen angel, whom thou drivest from joy for no misdeed. Everywhere I see bliss, from which I alone am irrevocably excluded. I was benevolent and good; misery made me a fiend. Make me happy, and I shall again be virtuous.” ― Mary Shelley, Frankenstein

"Dear Diary: She surprised me with something today. Sketches of a body that she wants to create for me… A form beyond my wildest fantasies. In a form like that, I could finally feel like… "myself." After all, there's no way I can be a star the way I am now. Sorry, Blooky. My dreams can't wait for anyone…” – MTT (Final Diary)

There's something undeniably similar about the idea of "fantasies" and "dreams" being connected to the desire for "bliss" and "goodness."

Additionally Bratty and Catty give us this lore: (Taken from the Wiki)

"[Bratty] So, like, Dr. Alphys built Mettaton, right? [Catty] That's like, what they TELL you. [Bratty] But like… Mettaton always acts like… [Catty] … being built was HIS idea somehow. [Bratty] And even right after he was built… [Catty] … he acted like Alphys was an old friend. [Bratty] But they're like… Not friends anymore. [Catty] Yeah!!! Unlike me and Bratty!! Best friends for-EVER!!!"

And later they say this:

"[Bratty] So Alphys has always, like… [Catty] Thought ASGORE is a SUPER cutie. [Bratty] So, like, I'm pretty sure she… [Catty] Made Mettaton to, like, totally impress him. [Bratty] A robot with a SOUL… [Catty] That's, like, SUPER relevant to his hobbies! [Bratty] So after seeing Mettaton, ASGORE… [Catty] Asked her to do all this science stuff for him! [Catty] But nobody's, like, seen anything from her yet. [Bratty] Or… her at all… [Catty] She must, like, just stay in her lab all day. [Bratty] Like, live a little, girl. [Catty] Yeah!!! Like us!!!"

Now, what I find *super* weird, is that no one knows that MTT did ask Alphys to build him.

Who's idea was this?

Because, based on that dialogue, to me, it always seemed like MTT wanted people to know he was some kind of sentient being/Soul in a robot body. That wasn't exactly something he was trying to hide.

Also, who decided on the whole thing with Asgore because, even though Alphys ended up with the Amalgamates and Mettaton ended up famous, to me, on paper at least, she should have ended up with the better deal there.

She gets a stable job and MTT, at best, if they're lucky, gets what he wants and, at worst, gets outed and sent home before he's ready.

Like, I sometimes think folks fail to see how much power Alphys holds in this situation, at least, at that stage? Like, she's *making* the body?

Also, based on the above diary entry, Mettaton would have never left without what Alphys promised him. It's BECAUSE she promised him EX that he left Napstablook behind.

So, when she writes in the True Lab that she wishes he'd stop asking her to finish his body because she's worried if she finishes that he won't talk to her anymore?

I dunno y'all I'd be kinda pissed if I was him too. She's literally holding what he has dreamed of most, his one happiness, his greatest desire, hostage so she can keep his friendship.

Again, love Alphys, but that's f-ed up no matter how you spin it.

Mettaton was unhappy but resigned to living with Blooky to keep them happy earlier. He, at least, had their happiness.

Now, Alphys has left MTT in this limbo state where he's in his temporary form, he doesn't have the final body he wants/ was promised, he's sort of perpetually stuck, and, in his mind, he can't exactly go home either because he's in too deep at this point.

So, he overcompensates.

And, out of his misery of not being complete and whole, he drives Burgerpants nuts. Remodels buildings in weird ways. He pours himself into making increasingly silly and vapid art.

Yet, if you kill MTT on a neutral route, everyone other than Burgerpants who works for MTT talks about how endlessly encouraging a boss he was, how he was hiring people no one else would because he understood the struggles they had, and all sorts of things like that.

So, is Burgerpants an unreliable narrator? (We learn from Bratty and Catty that this is totally possible.)

Or, does MTT really just have it out for him in particular? (We learn from Mew Mew that apparently Burgerpants used to be kind of a butt-face to the Blooks, so I sort of wonder if Mettaton wasn't exacting his petty revenge but, because of his transition, Burgerpants didn't know it? - This is the one I choose to believe because it's a little more slapstick and kind of funny to me. Like, just imagine, Mettaton thinking to himself "Hehehe, just you wait. No one messes with *my* cousin and gets away with it. Welcome to: Worst Bosses in the Underground, Level: Hell.")

In reality, I think all of these things are probably somewhere in between. MTT is like on a slow downward spiral into falling apart. But, he still tries to keep it together because he has to.

He is also still making bids for connection.

In "The Creature's Tale" section of the novel Frankenstein, The Creature explains how after he ran off from Frankenstein's lab he tried to meet other people and bond with them. (Super sad. Very worth the read.) He wanted to be loved. Yet, people saw him and ran because he was both beautiful and ugly. He was terrifying.

So, The Creature learns to read, and he speaks incredibly poetically. Like, The Creature is *crazy* intelligent, don't let the old monster movies where The Creature is just a grunting green sack of bolts fool you.

But, the point being, that he returns to his creator, Dr. Frankenstein, basically saying:

"I'm lonely. I want to be in community but you made me terrifying when you built me. I want to be loved. Please make me something to love. You never taught me how to love, and now I'm confused, broken, despairing, and violent. Don't leave me without love, or I'm going to go crazy."

In the subsequent chapters, Frankenstein being anxious about having created ONE of these things. Tries, and fails, to create more.

And, The Creature is TICKED!

In the same way, despite calling himself beautiful all the time, how much of that is a compensation for not looking the way Mettaton wishes he could?

How much of his endless obsession with himself and his appearance is Mettaton holding onto the precious little control he has over his life based on a broken promise of a mad-scientist?

How much of that is him trying to influence and keep hold of a community, no matter how inauthentic, because he's worried about losing it to them finding out he's not any of what they think he is at all?

Like The Creature in Frankenstein begging for another Creature like himself to be with him in simple companionship and community like other humans get to have, Mettaton is asking for a body to be able to fulfill his dream. Not of being a star, per say, though, that likely is a perk, but, instead, the body fulfills the dream of being, quite literally, himself.

Mettaton, like all traditional "monstrous" characters in literature, is seeking to find his authentic being. He wants to, as the Phantom of the Opera says in Gaston Leroux's original novel, "I want to be loved as myself"

What that means for Mettaton is being given the form that was promised him to live out his life in his true authenticity. Mettaton cannot be himself until he has his body. Prior to the end of True Pacifist, Mettaton has an *approximation* of what he needs for that fulfilment. But, he doesn't have all of it.

From what I've seen played/ dabbled in myself of Parts 1 & 2 of Deltarune, "Nobody" (aka Mettaton without a body) is just that. He's reclusive. He won't come out of the house. He's empty. Without Alphys' promise, Mettaton wouldn't just not be a star, he would be a recluse.

Therefore, Initial gave MTT some of what he needed to take on the world. It was a safety net. But, it's not nearly enough to be "stable" in his sense of self. It's not nearly enough to be capable of finding fulfillment. It's a halfway point to true bliss, the kind of bliss that brings virtue.

And, so, when Alphys for her own valid mental health reasons cannot give Mettaton what he wants, he struggles.

She cannot explain her anxiety and accident to him it in words that effectively communicate to Mettaton why she can't give him what he wants/needs (because that would mean telling him about the Amalgamates and THAT feels too big.)

The two of them reach an impasse.

They're both wrong, and they're both right.

They're both hurt, and they both hurt each other.

Mettaton isn't at fault for not being able to "fix" Alphys. She made promises to him that she wasn't able to keep. And, he doesn't owe her fixing when she promised to help him and, for no matter how valid a reason, went back on the promise that he *left his entire family over.* Besides that, she also doesn't seem to want to be fixed until after Frisk gives her a kick in the pants. No one can help people who don't want to be helped. We don't know how hard he tried, and for how many years. So, it really isn't fair to blame him for also having emotions that lead to lashing out in anger and breaking down after heartbreak of his own.

(Also, really random aside, but does anyone else kinda see the vaguely Tim Curry-esque thing going on in MTT's Mettaton-EX sprite design or is it just me? I'm also like 99.9% face blind so I could be WAY off base. But, if that's a thing, I think I know why, and it would support my Frankenstein theory even more.)

However, despite Mettaton's feelings being super valid, though perhaps his bitter sarcasm is a bit overkill at times, Alphys is also a really likable and sympathetic character. She's complicated, and I LOVE her. Her anxiety surrounding science after what happened with the Amalgamates is HELLA valid. Her inability to articulate that horror and not knowing what to do about it other than lie is not all that odd really. She's flawed, but she's also looking for community in her isolated state.

So, in the end, both of these characters are REALLY messy! They're really broken, and, in so many ways, they broke each other. Not on purpose, but they did.

And, the majority of the characters would place that blame on MTT because he looks put together. He looks like he was supposed to handle it. He might even do that himself.

But, I think, to do that, denies all of the things they both did to each other. I think it leaves out the mutuality of it. And, I think, Alphys might not even agree with other people (or MTT himself) placing that blame solely on him. Post-True Pacifist Alphys would want to share that load even if some of the other characters might try to prevent that.

They get to, if allowed, have the happy ending The Creature and Dr. Frankenstein deserved. And, I love that because I love these two flawed arseholes and they deserve it.

Sylvester McCoy's first episode as the Doctor first aired on September 7, 1987. Arrangments couldn't be agreed on with Colin Baker after his firing during the hiatus, so the plans of his farewell episode and regeneration had to be scrapped.
