i made a very generalized post awhile back with random resources but i wanna make a more specific one so:

Osiyo.tv is a GREAT resource for Cherokee history, language, and people. They have specific sections for interviews with Cherokee athletes, artists, foragers, leaders, national treasures, and women. Their full episodes also include some general news stories as well. The full episodes are really nice or even just the individual interviews and it makes for good background videos while you're working on stuff.

The Cherokee Phoenix newspaper is available online. It's literally a newspaper. It has newspaper and news website things.

This is a playlist for learning Cherokee. It's exactly that. Similarly, here is the Visit Cherokee Nation youtube channel which has just a ton of misc videos including also a lot of language stuff. Visit Cherokee Nation website also has a lot of stuff and links to other things, like events or historical landmarks.

Also, Cherokee Nation website. it's literally the official government website. It similarly has a ton of links and misc general information and news and such.

My friend also recommends taking a look at the National Museum of the American Indian's gallery, which shows a bunch of historic depictions of Native Americans particularly including in advertising and some brief history overviews. It's one good way to familiarize yourself with some examples of caricatures and offensive stereotypes commonly used surrounding Native Americans, which is very important if you're drawing an indigenous character so you know what to avoid.

I am assigning these as required reading for Piper stuff. Gonna write Piper? At least skim these. Just take a quick looksie. Okay? okay. Good. Also remember that you can always just look stuff up.

happy 2025 ( in the east coast! ) ill be real I'm writing this because i . don't know what to do with him. I have thoughts about him but I'm too scared to write a fic of him and still learning when it comes to storyboarding plot driven animations. (I'm trying !!!! I'm trying so hard!!!). Some of this stuff is not set in stone. I'm changing a lot of things a lot of the time. But i think it would be a good idea to start writing notes of whats going on with my guys so I'm not just sitting on them for years. And i have been! This guy is over 2 years old now. What the hell! The freak is my blorbo. My number one. I wanna talk about him. I do not make a lot of writing-y posts but i wanna try again, i think the last time i genuinely tried to was back in my amino days which was (hoo boy) 2016. good lord!

talking abt this guy for the most part but I'm gunna touch up on some other guys too. Mostly just a bunch of "these are just concepts" clarification because i am indecisive as all hell. and this is an over simplification because its mostly broad strokes with a couple tidbits here and there. Just to get the idea going forward.

So The Freak, Samuel Merit, and Beau are all connected. Ive dabbled in a LOT of concepts with them, and im not quite concrete on them But all of their artwork is tagged! Youll find it under:...

The Freak and Samuel are not the same person but they are the same body and face. The Freak is genuinely just a parasitic fungus or bacteria or whatever piloting a corpse. He uses He/They before the freakening, and He/They/It after. Samuel did this on purpose. He sacrificed his life and love for this on his own accord. (I'm clarifying this ahead of time because the animation I'm making rn makes this seem like its not the case, there's an explanation there i prommy!!!! Theres some plot grayness with that beast and i know that please bare with me when it comes to that!!!! )

Beau is Samuel's ex partner, watched what had happened and is out of the picture. The Freak has no affection to him regardless or what hes doing now. Doesn't have that 'human connection', doesn't feel the need to try to. If Samuel was still alive he would miss him, greatly. I don't think he would ever try to repair what he did though. Theoretically, even if the parasite didn't exist, I don't think they would have stayed together very long anyways.

The Freak is a cultist with the tendency to study organs. The parasite locked onto this "obsession" Samuel had to document things. The guy used to be a scientific journalist, studying plants and organic materials. It slowly morphed into this idea of being the subject of his notes, becoming the experiment. The idea didn't form from no where, and he entirely planned that it could go poorly. Samuel knew this and wanted it anyways. Eventually the parasite was more present than the person (surprisingly quickly all things considered), and the culty stuff is very... pseudo religion-y. Obsession with himself, praising the parasites home spores or whatever.

Hes sort of always had this air of "culty" to him. I shrimply made it more real. He loves the past, he loves the bones, he wants to show other people the bones. He wants to be praised. He wants recognition. He wants to be to be the scientist and the experiment. Hes strange and it makes me go crazy.

Im hoping people can pick out the inspirations i got through him. His design and story are based off of a lot of medias (and also a bunch of original stuff too thats developed over time!). hes my blorbo im obsessed with him constantly. I want more people to talk to about him.

i feel like i could write an essay about this. you're so lucky you left twitter btw you don't even know the amount of times ive been like look at this stupid opinion. so.

a) i literally don't think tim and jason have any sort of relationship at all like literally. their interactions should be a) titans tower attack, but like for hilarity points. not angst points. its objectively funny that jason made an adult sized robin costume and then put on clothes over that to attack tim n its objectively funny that tim's reaction to getting beat up was like yeah im still better than you <3. b) that one time tim kicked him in the balls. and thats it. thats all. like can we please talk about tim's relationships w his other siblings . please . i'm dying

b) i mean you know and i know that fandom hates women and people of color so i'm just going to leave it at this. and science experiment: go into the cassandra cain/stephanie brown tag and see how much stuff in there is literally not related to them at all. also the background lesbianification of them like they're crazy they do not get enough credit for the. hallucinating her bringing you back from the dead twice after she died. and nobody talks about their ISSUES and PROBLEMS something about me is i love when women have issues like yeah they're sweet and they're going to kiss but also. sometimes they can poke each other's sore spots and its INTERESTING!!!! they are not simple soft and sweet background women they should be the STARS of the SHOW. literally first base martyrdom second base raising each other from the dead third base eye contact.

d) people take damian cutting tim's line too far like its ok guys. it was resolved in the comic book. like it's fine he's literally itty bitty preteen raised to murder its fine. and rr hit list arc is like uncomfortably mean and hostile to damian in narration so tbh people should be trying to make up for that not make more tim angst

e) MY.. OPINIONS ABOUT TIM'S PARENTS.. ARE VERY IN DEPTH. and i've talked about them in tags before. but i think everyone needs to learn some NUANCE!!
