Encountered Sharknado posts, didn't know what Sharknado was. Googled it and this is what Wikipedia describes it as (the blue text):

That's a fucking sentence right there. Talk about pleonasms being a thing.

The Scriptorium the only place where well articulated sentences still get misinterpreted.
You can say "Laughing can be good sometimes" and somebody will say "so you think Deus non est?"
No bitch. Dats a whole new sentence. Wtf is you talkin about.
#i'm back to reading the name of the rose....#but since it's been so long since i stopped/paused my reading for the first time i'm going from the beginning again#as i don't really remember who anyone is aside from the protagonists and evil jorge luis borges#txt#which is a pleonasm actually... the evil jorge luis borges already exists and he is just called jorge luis borges

today I learned what a pleonasm is
a pleonasm is the use of unecessary words in a sentence to convey meaning, you either do it unintentionally, because it sounds nice or just for emphasis (I usually use these types of phrases a lot just for exaggeration purposes but i didn't know they had a namexd)
"I saw it with my own eyes" "exact copy" "I myself" "free gift" they are all pleonasms
oh but we must not confuse it with oxymoron, which can also be used to add emphasis but is different, because the oxymoron is the use of opposite words in the same sentence to give a new meaning (painfully beautiful being an example)...
I don't know why I find words so fascinating sometimes
#yup i didn't know what a pleonasm was#and now I'm going to think “pleonasm!” every time i read or hear one#why am I telling you this? because I'm a nerd who gets excited about anything I learn I guess#d's life stuff

#i don't like the word failure because it seems like. sentence pronounced the end #but i have been thinking about something like this a lot in terms of disability #like i saw a post awhile back that said something like 'stop beating yourself up over wasted potential. no you couldn't have' #like 'stop thinking about everything you could have accomplished if only you had tried harder. you did try. it just didn't work' #i think that's what this post is saying. not to declare yourself or your life a failure full stop the end #but to be like... huh. my whole life i was told i could do anything if i tried hard and believed in myself. so *that* was a fucking lie tags by @maculategiraffe
About ten years ago I decided that the next step I needed to take in my life was to accept and explore what it meant to be a failure and to have failed. This infuriated almost everybody in my life and clearly terrified a lot of people. People do not want you to accept failure. They dont want you to like... Sit with and think about it and pick it up and turn it arpund in your hands and really examine it. They want you to keep throwing yourself against the impossible walls until your body explodes! They do not want you to say "alright then, I've failed. What does that mean for me? Im still here. What does the life of someone who has failed look like?"
This makes people very angry and panicky.
My mental health improved in ways it had not in the previous DECADE once I stopped. And. Sat. With failure. And thought about what my failure ... Was. And looked at the structures that produced it and examined them critically.
It is so taboo to fail and admit it openly and talk about it. It is so taboo to talk about or think about failure in an accepting way rather than hiding it shamefully until you experience a degree of success in some area which allows you to present the past failure as "a stepping stone" to your current situation. Fuck that. We are put in positions of guaranteed failure by society every day and then punished and shamed for it. Lets fucking talk about failure
#Mental health#Philosophy#Failure#These tags made me analyse the French word#I don't feel about it the same way as Mac because well it's not the same word#The English word comes from a French verb that itself comes from Latin and isn't really used now#The French word (and the verb we use) comes from Persia via the Chess game#And in chess after you lose well... you can start a new game#Also it kinda became a meme because of a stupid phrase from our president (pleonasm)#“It would not say it's a failure; I would say it didn't work”#(Yes. He said that.)#So all in all I'm not really afraid by the word “échec”.#The feeling however...#With time (lots of time - I'm turning 45 next month) I became better with it and I feel I'm about next to Pip#Something didn't work? See what exactly failed#Change the parameters and start again#And don't blame myself because it doesn't help#It's a lot of (mental) work but... it works

Everytime I stumble upon a video of an aggressive pittbull (pleonasm), there are always a bunch of comments insisting ‘it’s not the breed it’s the owner!’ and most of them come from women.
Women as a whole refuse to consider genetics and biology as deciding factors when it comes to violence. Why you ask? because they’re hoping men… er violent dogs can be trained out of their violent tendencies.
That’s why they love the socialization theory so much.
#it’s literally savior syndrome in women#he’s only misunderstood!!#he’s going to change! I will save him!#pit nut#pittbulls need to be put down#will he eat your face? time will tell

Me, trying to impress my date with a display of my boundless humility: I would like to order one single, solitary crumb.
Waitress taking my order: Such arrogance! Not only do you presume to boast under the guise of being humble, but your order employs the most decadent of linguistic excesses - the tautology!
My date, who until recently thought "tautology" referred to the study of tensile strengths and upon learning her mistake compensated by reading through its Wikipedia article: That would be more correctly identified as a "pleonasm".
The editor I hired to curate my posts who styles himself as a sort of scheming vizier: My liege, this one is getting away from us. The punchline loses much of its impact when the rest of the joke is derailed by this increasingly self-indulgent meta humour. Were it up to me, your Grace, which of course it is not, I would cut the others and leave myself as the only supporting character. You need noone else, Your Majesty...
My card: Declines

actually lately I have been getting pretty pissed off at the little homunculus in my brain who's in charge of choosing what to listen to, sometimes I think she is actually kind of a moron and just not trying very hard in general. My followers on tumblr, you will tell me what to listen to, instead, please speak now
I'm coming around to the idea that my musical tastes and knowledge have been hampered by my attachment to my self-concept around being an album person over a playlist person
