So seen a few 'What if the ISAT cast were in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon' posts...

And I'm gonna put my hat in the ring because darn it I've been thinking about this for over a week now and I want to infect others with these ideas.

Siffren: Hisuian Zorua - White, adorable AND comes free with a neck ruff to hide their face in, but well, doesn't it fit Siff extremely well lore wise too? Just a cute little guy that's a remnant of a home and life forcefully taken away, Normal enough to be among the living with no issues but also Ghost because there's something missing... Something lost that shapes them, tears at them but they just can't let go... Also they eat a lot, have a good amount of mischief in their nature and use 'illusions' for self protection so like. It's a perfect fit really~ XD (Also the 'red' aspects during the Vs Friends fight makes me wonder if in the PMD version of ISaT Siffrin is evolving so wrong somehow that the universe is breaking and a huge chunk of the fight is the party basically mashing B button in utter terror~ XDDD)

Isabeau: Ditto - No joke, Isabeau had me really stumped for ages because what kind of pokemon species goes from nerd to buff to eventually somewhere in the middle during their evolution line but then I realized 'Wow I'm an idiot. There's a pokemon all about Change that can be any form right over there!' and thus Isa-Ditto was born in my mind. I like to think he's almost always in the form of a Marchoke, Zangoose or Scrafty or something that to the others is big and buff but Isa's warm smiling ditto face always stops him from ever looking intimidating, and back in the 'nerd' days Isa probably stuck to being a Gothita/Gothorita, if only because they're about the only mon I can think of with braids and they do seem like a good form if one wants others to stay away so they can focus on studying and stuff...

Mirabelle: Minccino/Cinccino - Ok, most of my reasoning for this one is because Mira visually reminds me of the Minccino line (those eyes <3 And her ribbon! <3) but like, she IS pretty studious and helpful and probably cleans up after everyone and that's Cinccino as anything to me, plus the sheer way this mon blitzs with Skill Link... IDK I just really feel the line suits her.

Odile: Kanto Persian or Purugly - After realizing Siff, Isa and Mira were all Normal types I decided to make it a thing and since under this logic Odele couldn't be a Kadabra (as was my first instinct), the idea of her being this big old book reading cat affectionately rolling her eyes at everyone else's nonsense just had so much appeal <3 Leaning Persian if only because its design matches her visuals better but the thought of her as a Purugly feeling comfortable enough around the others she doesn't puff up her fur via her tail around them is pretty cute/very 'seems standoff-ish but is secretly affectionate Odile' so I'm still struggling to choose between them.

Bonnie: Zigzagoon - Bonnie was probably the hardest to pick out because there were so many possibilites (Aipom for the mischief? Munchlax for the cooking/food vibes? Oh but what about Meowth for their weird hug face???). But then I realized pokemon of all sorts could do all of those things and what really stands out about Bonbon is their 'NPC somehow on the big adventure and doing their best' vibes so a spunky little Zigzagoon using their 'Gluttony' expertise in food to 'Pick Up' the party's sprits felt really fitting (also they way they dart in and out of combat with their Quick Feet just. It works you know? XD). Not sure which Zigzagoon form would be most fitting for them but currently leaning Galarian if only because Siff being weak to Bonnie fits hilariously well, it matches with Bonnie's 'desire to be edgy despite still being adorable' vibes and the mental thought of them far off in the future, all grown up and protecting their family as a big bad Obstagoon gives me a ton of warm fuzzies so yeah~ <3

Euphrasie: Lopunny - Look, it's just the hair, the affectionate personality and her being really really tall compared to the others alright? Only the party is actually Normal locked to me! X'D (I could see her as an Altaria or a Mega Ampharos as well but Lopunny just feels more 'right' somehow.)

The King: Hisuian Zoroark - . . . In my defence, he's an incarnation of malice born from the loss of his home/life with long long hair who acts as Siffrin's foil, pushes them towards 'discovering the red' and yoyos between tragically lamenting and being a ruthlessly, cruel monster who would hurt a child. There was no other option.

Loop: currently torn but leaning Cosmog/Cosmeom or Mimikyu for most of the game and Necrozma/Ultra Necrozma for the Act 6 secret fight - Finally the one non Normal type! And the fact it's the eldritch feeling Loop is kinda perfect? Helps them stand out more at least, and well you really can't beat Ultra Necrozma for 'star shaped thing that is both terrifying, potentially world ending and in immense amounts of pain'. (...Also its weak to Siff's H!Zorua and Bonnie's potential Dark type so it fits type wise also XD).

Change God: Mew - Do I really gotta explain why? (Legendary, has Transform, cute and sweet but also a little bastard, etc- It ticks all the boxes XD

So... Yeah. Those are my In Stars and Time 'what Pokemon would the main cast be' thoughts.

Ruby anon here! I had a little Drabble come up and I wanted to share! I do apologize because this one isn’t really that good. I hope you enjoy it still.

Her steps are light and calculated, her paws only stepping on the most silent parts of the floor. A few feet pass, and she pauses, ears twitching for the quietest of sounds. She dare not whisper, she dare not move until a moment has passed. The natural quiet is here, much different from the sinister silence that would come if her siblings would wake, and she muted her sigh of relief. The routine is oxygen: another few steps, pause, listen, and repeat. If she loses it, if she makes a mistake and doesn’t inhale correctly, she’ll suffocate. She doesn’t know if her siblings would bother to save her if that had happened.

It’s the third pause when she is caught, sensing someone’s presence nearby. She curls into herself, trying to think of a form that could possibly trick them, or at least buy her time to run and hide. Maybe she can finally force her stomach not to roar in protest of her hunger — tell them she just wanted the bathroom — and it’ll just be a tap instead of being flung-

Gentle hands embrace her, but she can’t help but tremble. Her mind screams danger, over the minuscule voice of rationality that tells her that this is a safe touch. This one will bring her no harm, she knows this, but her mind screams. It bangs on the walls, desperately trying to tear it’s way out of a prison it swears is made of delusion and false hopes.

There’s a light, and then she sees Twig and Ark looking down at her with the most gentle of expressions.

“Do you think you can take a few deep breaths, Ruby?” Twig asks her, voice soft. “I’ll do them with you.”

Twig breathes slowly, and she tries to copy. The first few breaths demand to be shallow and protest with every conscious inhale and exhale she makes. The screams ebb away, fading with the distant traces of smoke that their fiery voice had caused. Now it’s just her, Twig, and Ark, who settles a cup next to her. She can tell by the smell — it’s tea. The fragrance makes her stomach rumble, and she almost shrinks back, only to hear Twig speak once more:

“It’s okay, it’s about time for breakfast anyways. How about you sit down with me while Ark prepares something for us to eat? You can finish your tea and-”

She’s not being thrown across the room. They’re not screaming, humiliating, or threatening her. Of course they aren’t. These two are Twig and Ark, and her siblings wouldn’t dare come back after the former’s attacks. They’ll never come for her again. She’s safe.

The dam breaks, fat tears and loud wails erupt as she tosses herself into Twig’s arms. The charmeleon catches her swiftly, wrapping her securely in a hug. Ark gently rubs her back and wipes her tears. It’s them. Not her siblings— never again.

“It’s over now?” Ruby manages to choke out through tears and the pressure in her throat, eyes lifting to finally see both her parents.

“Yes, Ruby,” Twig nods, “it’s over. You’ll never have to see them again.”

The trembling stops, her body relaxes, and the tears lessen as it sinks into her sleepy mind:

She’s safe. She is home.

Just woke up and now I’m crying because this is beautiful and so touching and has so many similarities to how my own mom walked me through my first panic attack 😭 EVERYONE LOOK AT THIS GEM FROM RUBY ANON. THEY SAY ITS REALLY NOT THAT GOOD AND WE NEED TO GET THEM TO SEE THE TRUTH OF HOW AMAZING IT IS.

Hi! I saw your post about choosing songs for people's OCs and was wondering if you could mine.

Atlas is a human turned Golett currently having an identity crisis. As a little rock golem, he has no organs. No mouth to eat with, no lungs to breathe with. He's literally heartless, and he's terrified. No one notices though, because he doesn't know how to say it, and a Golett's body don't allow much room for emoting. He's desperate to recover his memories and go home.

When he awoke, there was an amnesiac Vulpix (named Maple) by his side. He has no idea who she is, just the sense that she's very important to him.

Prolly won't have nearly as in-depth rambles about the tunes, since that's mostly a depending on the braincells thing.

Post-making-this-addition: Incorrect, past Fungus.

Spiralis Silere! Very vibin, a lil bit nervous but mostly vibin.

Strange Dream. Fitting with the theme of confused and scared, but there's definitely some interesting things, friends to make, etc. And from what I've skimmed of the story, there's plenty of things that're just unreal.

Closed my Heart. The name there kinda describes it all. A closed heart, a bit of an ominous and hopeless feeling, an accumulation of stress leading to blunt and snappy responses.

Tinderbox. The breaking point, where every bit of the tune is jagged and ready to break. It's all a bit confused, but in the laser focus shifting tracks every now and then rather than a muddled mess. The sound of mounting desperation.

Now! Onto the combat music ideas, as requested.

Powerful and Bright. I see Atlas being pretty focused in a fight, his goal being to defeat the opponent. So, I went ahead and picked this one out.

Canto III Battle Theme D1. This one loops really well, which is why it's a bit short. This one I think really goes well with the idea of desperation. Atlas being so dead set on his goal that he'll do anything to survive in a fight emotional or difficult enough to invoke the feeling that this music would give.

As promised in my previous post about this, I finally made Pokemon Teams for all the LaDS guys (so far)! The first Pokemon is their Ace, and the last one is an assigned Legendary/Mythical!

Short explanations for why I picked these 'mons for them under the cut!

⭐Xavier's Team⭐

Clefable - Fits his star theme. Also has themes of protection

Absol - Fits him appearance-wise (it looks like his Hunter Uniform). Absol is also a Pokemon that warns people of calamity, so it's a reference to the Chronorift Catastrophe and Lumiere first appearing

Komala - Sleepy and fluffy (hair), like Xavier :3

Minior - Meteor shower reference from his Anecdote

Sirfetch'd - Connected to how Xavier is a swordfighter

Jirachi - Wishing star reference

❄️Zayne's Team❄️

Ninetails - A reference to Pie, the Artic Fox. I can also imagine him with a Ninetails clearly.

Audino - They're often associated with nurses, so I thought it fits him as a doctor. Also, their ears act as a stethoscope, so it's also related to him as a cardiac surgeon specifically

Meowstic - Fits him vibes-wise. Also it looks like him.

Klefki - Fits his personality as a very organized, logical person

Amaura - A fossil that's also an ice mountain reference

Chien Pao - Reference to his Myth(s)

Primarina - Quite obvious: it's a reference to him being a Lemurian/mermaid!!

Volcarona - Connected to his Fire Evol; also connected to themes of worship

Manaphy - Prince of the Sea reference

Corviknight - It's literally Mephisto (a bird made of steel)

Hakamo-o - A dragon type to match his dragon theme; also this Pokemon mainly punches to attack so it matches how Sylus fights.

Sableye - Its connection to gems is a reference to Protocores. It's also a reference to PMD EOS where the Sableye are minions of the antagonist (so essentially, they represent the Twins lol)

Meowth - Represents his wealth. Also a reference to how he calls MC "kitten". But also, Meowth is a "classic" villain/antagonist Pokemon (i.e. Giovanni and Team Rocket)

Hitmonchan - Boxing reference!

Giratina - BIG SCARY DRAGON

Metagross - Fits him appearance-wise (and honestly vibes-wise); it also looks like a battleship

Flapple - Obligatory apple reference

Rotom Fan - I wanted to give Caleb a "techy" Pokemon to reference his lore, so that's Rotom. I also picked Fan because it knows Levitate + it's a Flying type, so it's a reference to his Gravity Evol

Gallade - Big brother vibes

Lucario - Also big brother vibes, but also it's a doggy and I think most of the community agrees that he gives "dog energy"

Latios - Its concept is based on jetplane, and Caleb is a pilot :)

they're for a fic i will post eventually (thought they do not show up for like 10 chapters and only meet the party after like 30) and they're my silly little goober of a human loop design. except they're kind of very obviously not human aside from the head. and even then they glow and emit sparkles wherever they go.

their expression is constantly ^w^ until it isn't because they forgot they have a visible mouth. they disappeared from existence and then their survival instinct kicked in and they wished themself back to life. they fell from the sky like a pmd protagonist

they're a walking sadness beacon and have been telling everyone they've met that they're a star that fell from the sky one day for no particular reason. no one where they landed knows who the saviours are because news is slow and they froze like a day into the king's march across vaugarde to dormont. when they first fell back to the earth they were threatened at scissors-point because they were a stranger who fell into someone's garden

they don't become a housemaiden but they do stay in a house for a while since they need to get their bearings. vega didn't have a name for a little while because they didn't want to be loop and couldn't be siffrin, so they just said that stars didn't have names up until they remembered the star vega and decided that's who they were now

gameplay-wise (because i always have gameplay thoughts):

vega is completely typeless and deals typeless damage. using craft they can change their type and do whatever type damage they want, which changes their basic attack until they use another type-changing craft

they probably still have the better healing skill (healy-bealy) they just call it something else. they also have make up the time which they also call something else

they have no qualms about using (just attack.) it's just typeless now. or whatever craft type they are when using it

(speaking of craft types, my dnd brain has been seeing paper as slashing, scissors as piercing, and rock as bludgeoning for a while so. putting that down)

while they start in the 50-somethings level-wise they get to 75 pretty quickly. how? well... sadness magnet

post-game party member that's pretty strong

they share the darkless high-heeled boots with my other human loop (from whumptober). the constellations in their hat are ursa major, lyra, and virgo. vega got the base dress from a friend and edited it while they had time. they also turned their cloak into a cape. the hat is from the universe. it's not even the starry hat, that's in siffrin's hands. it's just a universe-given free wishcraft hat

Rain As the sudden rains met the town, and the thunder crashed on open plains, Maple whimpered, shut her eyes tight, leaned into Atlas' embrace, and slept. Being strong could wait one more day.

Sleep (I had to include the 2nd paragraph, I love it too much) Atlas ran his hand absent-mindedly through Maple's fur, and she purred in her sleep. Maple was family, of that he was certain, and no matter what happened, she would be beside him, but there was still people missing. Faces he couldn't remember, a voice he could no longer hear, a warm embrace he'd forgotten, and it meant nothing.

Thinking on it, of all that he'd lost, Atlas couldn't feel a single thing. In becoming a Golett, he'd lost his heart, and perhaps, his humanity. He was desperate to feel something, a loss, an aching, anything pulling at him to get home, but he couldn't. The only thing he ever felt was the cold clutches of fear, quiet, unrelenting, everpresent. He really wished he was human right now, it would feel good to cry.

Reach "That is a super vague answer," said Macy, but there was no real heat behind the words. She could see the rigidity in Hermit's stance, how tightly his fists were clenched, how he didn't reach for his tail, and she couldn't help but smile, feeling tears blossom in her eyes as she remembered the little Sandshrew admitted to her hospital so long ago. "When you have your answer, come and tell me."

Frown Hermit's frown deepened as his gaze passed over Maple, noting the stitches and the dried blood still matted into her fur. She was fast asleep, and her breathing seemed shallow, accompanied by the occasional whine.

Laugh (searching for this taught me that Onslaught has Laugh in it and I'll never see that word the same way) Atlas groaned and Hermit fought down a laugh. “We’ll go report to Celeste in a second,” continued Hermit, “but she can never know how much we struggled against a Shroomish.”

Game recommendations for In Stars And Time fans

There's only four of them but honestly I think each one of these is good enough of an excuse to recommend it to ISAT fans. All of these are more or less in order of how much I recommend them from most to least.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity (Nintendo 3DS)

I am a huge PMD fan, being as it's a largely story-based spinoff where you yourself play as a Pokemon. And I believe fellow ISAT fans would get the most out of this entry of the series.

Gates has the strongest cast of characters in the series and largely deals with themes of nihilism, hope, the importance of community, and how negativity can consume you. The core cast of characters develops a very lovely dynamic and go through compelling character arcs.

Heads up, as much as I adore this game, it has the most frustrating gameplay out of the spinoff between limited Starter Pokemon choices, being only able to take one mission per in-game day, and unskippable slow dialogue. Watching a playthrough instead of playing the game yourself is a valid way of getting into it.

Additionally, the game deals with suicidality. This also applies to parts of the other PMD game on this list, but it's especially present in GTI's main story.

The Dark Queen of Mortholme (free on itch.io)

The creator of TDQoM describes it as an "anti game". You play as the final boss, a Queen who considers herself eternal and is challenged by the Hero over and over again.

This game is very short (maybe ~20 minutes for one run) and has a few bittersweet endings depending on how you engage with and fare against the Hero. I believe this one might appeal to ISAT fans for its themes about change and in how the Hero always comes back in a gameplay loop, stubbornly trying to defeat the Queen over and over again.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky (Nintendo DS)

First of all physical copies of this game are expensive so consider emulation. Or getting Explorers of Time/Darkness instead, just know that Sky has additional story elements.

That aside, Explorers is the most popular entry in the PMD series for good reason. I don't think the cast is as strong as Gates', but I agree with the sentiment that the game has one of the best stories that has come out of Pokemon.

The premise you're presented with is that time all over the world is starting to freeze because artifacts that keep time flowing in different places are being stolen, which would lead to a frozen paralyzed world. But the plot gets a lot deeper at a certain point, and the situation becomes a lot more tragic than previously anticipated.

Detective Beebo: Night at the Mansion (free on itch.io)

Honestly I'm mostly putting this at the bottom of the list because I played this just recently, have yet to see all endings, and don't have very strong feelings about it at this point. That being said, it is a free game, just six hours long, offers several endings, and I've seen several ISAT fans fall in love with it. I def think you'll find something of value here if you like ISAT.

The premise is that you're playing as a private detective, Oliver Beebo, who was invited to a party at a mansion. Oliver seems to be trapped in a timeloop, first triggered when the party's host kills him, but Oliver has no recollection of the previous loops.

He gains a companion in Àngel, who does remember the loops, and both of them try to investigate the purpose of this party and why the loops are happening.

Heads up for child murder, as well as unreality and unsettling imagery/scopophobia at later points in the game. There's also endings that contain suicide and body horror.
