Pied-billed Grebe (Podilymbus podiceps) in MacGregor Point Provincial Park, August 2017. If you squint you can see the Grebe in the center of the photo. Grebes are excellent swimmers and often disappear underwater right when you get a look at them. They forage for small fish and crayfish as well as various other aquatic invertebrates. Their nests are constructed out of bits of aquatic vegetation which they form together into a small bowl (about 5 inches in diameter).
