I have this podlock head canon that John is terrible at flirting on purpose but is accidentally super flirty with Sherlock he just doesn’t realize he is doing it. Partly because every time John does this Sherlock gets so flustered he looks pissed off.

I find it so funny how modern adaptations of the Sherlock Holmes stories make the first meeting of Holmes and Watson so dramatic. In the original ACD canon when Watson meets Holmes, the silly little guy was just experimenting with blood samples. But in BBC Sherlock, it's a cold open to him whipping a corpse with a riding crop. And then in Sherlock & Co., perhaps the best example of what I mean, Holmes is running on a treadmill after stabbing himself and is still bleeding. Poor Watson is just constantly never getting a break after meeting this man.

thinking about Sherlock & Co too much so have some orientation headcanons

watson: bi but still in the closet. he’s a staunch ally before coming out, but he was just raised in a small town and hasn’t felt free to explore his own feelings openly.

mariana: omni. i feel like she could love any and everyone (and would look good doing it)

sherlock: demiromantic asexual. i think his romantic attraction mimics his platonic attraction, which we’ve seen develop and deepen for both John and Mariana. in my mind, he leans toward sex-indifference and favors sensual intimacy.
