My kid was playing through Pokémon ruby and got super excited about his shiny whismur. Thought I’d share his excitement with you all.

Every Pokémon is someone’s favourite. But which Pokémon is the most favourite? That’s what we’re gonna find out with the power of Tumblr polls. Safari Week is a shiny hunting event where you hunt in a Safari Zone! Finding a shiny is fun enough, now with the added thrill of the Pokémon potentially running away!!

Note: The Friend Safari in X and Y is not technically a Safari Zone, so while you can hunt there if you want, it’s not quite in the spirit of the event.

(Disclaimer: I do not know if the anime or Pokémon Masters depicts him differently, and am going strictly off of the mainline games.)

Steven's love for rocks, minerals and Steel-type Pokémon could be interpreted as a special interest. While he doesn't downplay his own skills as a Pokémon Trainer, he often introduces himself as someone who "travels here and there" due to his interest in rocks and mentions his status as Champion - which is a big deal - in passing, if he does it at all. While he is beloved by the community at large for both his battling prowess and good looks, Wallace (who works with him and is a close personal friend) tends to describe him using terms like "an odd soul", indicating that Steven takes his interests to an unusual degree even in the context of the Pokémon world.

There is also a scene in Heart Gold and Soul Silver's postgame where Steven asks if you would like to trade a Forrestress to him. If you trade him one that you haven't bonded with, he thanks you and leaves quickly. But if you DO trade him one with a maxed out friendship stat, he delights in meeting someone who shares his interests and goes off on an energetic tangent about things that makes Steel-type Pokémon unique, including praising "That particular texture!" and how you can sense "the solitariness and nobleness" of Beldum to an almost "rebuffing" degree when you hug them, before realising that he got carried away and excusing himself. At the time, he was also the only prominent character in the whole series to wear rings; from a character design standpoint this signals him coming from a wealthy family, and I like to think that they also are comfort clothing due to his love of metal textures.

As an aside, his speech patterns do vary a bit depending on the translator, but he often speaks in a rather polite register and is 100% earnest in everything he says and does. This is not a pattern shared by his family; in ORAS, his father is shown to remain jovial in times of crisis, and even stalls an important meeting so he can chide Steven about being impatient (when Steven gets annoyed at that, dad just goes "Can't you take a joke...") Afterwards, Steven may note that "I have been his son for 25 years, and sometimes even I am not sure I understand him fully."

In Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, the player character is introduced riding in the back of the moving van. Why did they do that instead of riding with their mother?

1) Maybe the car was also full of delivery goods, and there wasn’t enough room.

2) Maybe the mom was in the truck’s front seat, and the other seat was occupied.

3) Moving truck is the ultimate enrichment for preteens it’s fine. It’s fine.
