We hope you’re nice and settled in these fabulous new muses! This is just a heads up that Polaris is about to have another plot drop. This kind of plot drop does require some audience participation! Basically, we’re hoping for our next plot drop to have half of Polaris start to tap into their dark side due to a spell gone wrong (or maybe gone right?) Cue Ms. Kelly Clarkson.

Right now? Your job is to send in an ask to the main with the characters you’d like to be under the effects of this spell, and any characters who would be interested in helping to find a counter-curse.

Hello lovely star creatures! Ursa Major and I are here to talk to you about the exciting new things happening at Polaris. We’re going to go ahead and introduce the idea of new character groups. Here’s our new model:

Students of Polaris Academy

Administrators and Staff of Polaris Academy

Professors of Polaris Academy

Professor Assistants (PA’s) of Polaris Academy

Residents of the magical town of Polaris

So, if you’re looking to play a muse outside of the school, now’s your chance! Think of Polaris as a bit of a college town. We’ve started to include job positions at some of the in-game locations, but we are absolutely open to more. You can find all of these on the Town Page.

With this, we’re also introducing a couple of new sponsorship groups. Right now, students can be sponsored by a constellation, and teachers must be sponsored by a constellation and a planet. We’re bending that ever-so-slightly. The elements still apply, but we wanted to increase the number of sponsorships that can occur, so you can play as many muses as your heart desires! Here are our new and updated sponsorship groups:

Constellation: A grouping of stars that agree to come together and sponsor a student, staff member, townsperson, PA, teacher (before/in addition their planetary sponsorship) at Polaris.

Star: An individual star who chooses to sponsor a student, staff member, townsperson, PA, or teacher before a planetary assignmentat Polaris. (For example, Molly Harris is Vega. Vega is a part of the Summer Triangle, which can give Vega an automatic connection with the other stars in that triangle. Vega is a part of Lyra-- Blair Harcourt is Lyra, and that also gives them plotting material.)

Star Cluster: A grouping of stars who choose to sponsor a student, staff member, townsperson, PA, or teacher before a planetary assignment at Polaris. (If a star is a part of a constellation, there are ample plotting opportunities for the character who is sponsored by the constellation, too! For example, the Matariki star cluster is a part of the Taurus constellation, so that could give new plotting material for Ro Hae and Marisol Alvarez.)

Planet: A heavenly body that chooses to sponsor one of the teachers at Polaris. A planet confers with the teacher’s original sponsorship and it’s a coexistance. For example, Alaric Lauridsen is sponsored by Noctua, but also became sponsored by Pluto when he became a professor at Polaris.

Moon: An orbting mass of one of the nine major planets of the solar system. Moons are reserved for Professor Assistants only. Professor Assistants should be considered the equivalent of “graduate students” in our little world, so they also should have a star sponsorship of some kind. (For example, Luna would be the PA to Gaia. Jupiter is self-important and would have many PA’s. Venus and Mercury do not have moons, and can borrow PA’s as needed from the larger planets, such as Jupiter and Saturn.)

Comet: These gaseous balls of ice can be extremely volatile, but also very powerful. Comets can sponsor a student, staff member, townsperson, PA, or teacher before a planetary assignment.

Good evening, starlights! My dearest co-admin Leigh has done a lovely job of running this joint lately, and I think we can all agree that she deserves a round of applause. I’m so excited by the interest we’ve received, and I want to thank each and every one of you who’s so much as stopped by our main for a looksee. This is just a notice that main updates may be a bit sporadic over the next few days, but they are a-coming! If you’re unsure about anything, I suggest looking through our most recent acceptances until we can get things cleaned up around here. The Wanted Connections page is our biggest project with new characters, so while everything that needs to be is marked as filled, there are also wonderful OPEN wanted connections listed in the last few days’ worth of acceptances that I recommend taking a look at. We will try to have everything up to date by tomorrow evening — this was just a fair warning to make sure everyone gets a bit of love despite admin Jeanne here being the Worst(TM). You can also reach out to the main if you’re unsure about any one in particular.

In the meantime!!!! We’re getting things around for our next event, and it’s bound to be a good one. Please remember to send in your characters’ position (either corrupted by darkness or working on a counter curse) by 8pm EST this Friday.

Welcome to Polaris-HQ’s First Plot Drop!

One of Polaris’ most long-standing bouts of magic has been its ability to exist within the human world. Through a large amount of cloaking spells and the occasional memory-wiping charm, it’s managed to thrive for centuries unbeknownst to the humans living in Castle Hills. That doesn’t mean they’ve been completely separated — while magic can do a lot, it can’t do everything, Polaris still relies on the use of human delivery drivers to provide supplies. These are always folks under the impression that Polaris is a rehabilitation center of sorts for wayward adults. It’s easy not to question the hijinks they might encouncter.

Today, Polaris had an emergency delivery made of eggs and a new hot-water heater. These were brought by a faithful man who’s been driving up to the school for years — Adam Miller. This day was a bit different, you see. While his beloved wife is out of town, Adam had to bring along his two children for the drop-off. Seventeen year old Zoe Miller and her six year old brother Mikey Miller. Adam told his two kids to stay in the car while he went to have a talk with “Mrs. Morgenstern”, and that he would be back in five minutes. But a lot can happen in five minutes. Zoe got out of the car to get a wifi signal, and Mikey took off down a pathway because he could’ve sworn he heard a dolphin chirping somewhere. Last time Zoe left Mikey unattended, he almost ended up in a cult, so of course she went after him. But the Polaris grounds are confusing enough to its residents, never mind strangers. And mortals at that!

Ursa Major sent out a message to every student (with the help of the school’s strongest psychic magic users) that there were three humans loose on school grounds. They would be taking care of things as quickly as they could, but in the meantime, students and staff were urged to act as normal as possible. And not “Polaris Normal” — for however long Adam, Zoe, and Mikey Miller are there, staff and students are to be as cordial, accomodating, and human as possible.

Below the cut, you’ll find each character paired up with another. You’ll also see another name — either Adam, Zoe, or Mikey’s. We are asking that you write out a scenario of your characters encountering this human, and how they interact not only with each other but also given their circumstances.

How you choose to go about this is completely up to you! You can make a text post, headcanong out what happened in the interaction with your partner. You can get fancy and make an edit including headcanons. You can go all out and actually write the interaction, if you so choose! We just ask that you either send a link with the finished product to the main or submit your headcanons in a message directly to us so that we can write up a summary of the Miller family’s excursions. You have until Wednesday, May 20th at 8pm EST to message your partner and make some magic happen! Just not literally.

our typical suburban dad. Wears socks with sandals and just really hopes the weather will be nice for Memorial Day Weekend so that he can have his annual BBQ Yes, he exclusively calls it a BBQ, not “barbecue”. He’s seen Professor Lauridsen around campus and has had his bisexual awakening at the ripe age of 52. Will most likely try and recruit anyone with the slightest hint of muscles to help him build his deck.

Good evening, everyone! This post will be a doozy, so I’ll cut to the chase. Some important group-wide changes and announcements are a-coming!

Expansion

This is probably our most exciting announcement. While Polaris has thus far been a bit of an invite group, after a poll and discussion between the admins, we’ve decided to start advertising in the tags! Because we still want to maintain something of a close knit-group, we have decided to put a limit on it though. Currently, we have 10 wonderful starbursts (including ourselves), and we have chosen to open our doors to a grand total of 18. In the next few days, we will begin advertising in the tags and updating some of our pages to make sure we’re ready for some fresh new faces. If anyone has tips on how we can best get ourselves up and running, we would more than appr4eciate it!

Activity

So far, we haven’t enforced any kind of activity, mostly because we know that it can sometimes be daunting to have to post. We still don’t want anyone to feel like they need to force themselves to get online, but since we will be opening up to some new pals, we do think it’s a necessary evil. Please don’t worry though! We’ve decided on something that is (hopefully) relaxed. If you haven’t posted within seven days, you’ll be put on an activity check. Failure to post within 24 hours of that will result in an unfollow and your roles being reopened.

Now, since this is a mumu and most of us love adding a new character every so often, we do have a little stipulation. It’’s not fair for someone who only has two characters to be held to the same activity standards as someone with, say, 22. So, our system will be as follows (for now, as a trial run):

If you have one character, you must post on that character within seven days.

If you have two to four characters, you must post on at least two of them to meet the activity requirement.

If you have five characters, you must post on at least three of them to meet the activity requirement.

If you have six or seven characters, you must post on at least four of them to meet the activity requirement.

Anyone with eight or more characters must post on at least five of their characters to meet the activity requirement.

So for an example, I (admin Jeanne) am currently at five characters. If only post on Haley and Lucia over the course of seven days, I wouldn’t be considered active. However, if I post on Haley, Lucia, Lenora, and Esther, then we are good to go! We know muse can be fickle, so hopefully this gives some wiggle room if you’re ever not feeling a particular muse for a spell.

I’ll be adding a hiatus form tomorrow for anyone who needs to take time off! Our first activity check will be seven days from today, so please make sure to post accordingly.

Memes and Tasks

We’re ending this massive post on a fun note! Starting this Wednesday, we’ll be having doing memes every other week. These will be reblogged on to the Polarisursas blog, so make sure you’re following! Specific guidelines can be found on the posts once we get things started. We’ll switch up the style, but in our experience, memes are always a fun way to get phones interacting and exploring their characters more! On the weeks that we don’t have a meme, we will post a task. These will (usually) be completely optional, but think of them as a way of doing a bit more of a deep dive into your characters and others!

Misc

All of these changes are on a trial run for now, and we hope that our players feel comfortable to come to use with any questions or concerns about them. This is first and foremost a group effort, and when Leigh and I first scream-texted about this idea weeks ago, I never thought we would get it off the ground for more than a day. We truly hope you’re all feeling comfortable, and we want that feeling to continue.

Leigh and I will be working on some more skeletons to be released over the next few days!! In addition, we’ll be whipping up a page offering inclination ideas, if you want a new character but don’t quite jive with any of the current skeletons. These will just be a sentence or two if you’re looking for a jumping-off point — some basic powers or skills that you’re free to expand on and assign to a constellation of your choice. Or you’re welcome to keep on using the skeletons that Leigh (because she’s the brains and beauty of this operation) magically crafts for us!!!

To conclude, we love you all. We hope to bring the fun of Polaris to others as well, and we know you lot will be as welcoming as ever. As always, feel free to send us any ideas. Good evening, star players!

Leigh does such a wonderful job of posting on the main, but admin Jeanne is here to take over for a hot minute with just a few lil’ updates.

Over the next few days, Ursa Minor and I will be working on getting some more skeletons out there. You’re more than welcome to still make OC constellations of your choice, but these will be more guided. They’ll also have inclinations and element ideas already given so hey, easier for you!

With the addition of more skeletons, we’ll also be shifting things slightly in terms of in-game lore — while the constellations that compose the Zodiac are still some of the most well-known, we’ve decided to put them on more of a level playing field. The school itself will not be putting an emphasis on students sponsored by a Zodiac constellation. We will still be limiting the number of Zodiacs to two per person, for the sake of fairness.

We will also be slightly expanding on the elements. Previously, we allowed students to choose fire, earth, water, or air, with Columba and Ophiuchus being the only ones capable of light or dark-fueled magic. Now, we’ll be adding in more constellations based on those elements, but they will be limited more than the core four. IF you’re interested in playing one of these elements before we drop the skeletons, hit up either me or Leigh and we’ll be happy to hash out details with you! Or Columba is available for apps, if you’d rather not wait!

Hey, all you cool cats and kittens

Admin Leigh and I are loving all the feedback we’ve gotten so far on the Google Doc. We’ll most likely be posting another update once the majority has responded, but we have seen a handful of people comment on the thread-only style of interactions. They can be rather daunting to pound out, and I (Jeanne) take full responsibility for making it seem like long, para-style threads were the only option as I lead by example on opening day. While we’re not gonna discourage anyone from writing to their heart’s content, smaller gif chats are also more than valid!!!  These are far more casual, and can be anything you want to. Think of them as just having a regular conversation with someone, without getting into the nitty gritty of describing thoughts and feelings and actions. These convos can be among friends, acquaintances, strangers... they’re fun, easy, and a great way to just keep having fun, which is what we’re all here for!

For example, a starter and subsequent thread replies may look like:

Good evening, folks

As I’m sure you’ve all noticed, activity around here has taken a sharp dive lately, to no one’s fault. It’s a very hectic time of the year, within in already chaotic year to begin with. Both admins have also been under quite a bit of outside stress lately, and after much discussion, we’ve decided that Polaris may have run its course. It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Polaris is now closed. 

We want to give a huge thank you to everyone, current and past, who has played a role in making this group a reality. It truly did help both admins get through this year, and we hope that it brought some spark of joy to your lives as well. Every admin says this, but we truly could not have asked from a better batch of players. Seeing the characters you’ve brought to life and the magic you’ve created has been a blessing. 

Magic is at the very root of Polaris, and we hope that each one of you is able to create a little bit of magic in your own daily lives.

As always, we ask that you please not replicate the plot or any of the skeletons we’ve created. This group has been our heart and soul for going on six months now, starting off as a one-line text between the admins and turning into a world that we hold near and dear.

We will leave the OOC chat open for another week or so, should anyone wish to exchange contact info once we’ve shut down for good. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you all for letting our world suck you in. May the stars continue to guide you through these difficult times, as a reminder that extraodinary things do still exist.
