Five first met Lila when she was a literal child . He murdered her parents. He must have been well into his 50s by that point. And then Lila gets with Five when he's old enough to be her grandfather in the body of an 18 YEAR OLD BOY. What in the magical girl lolita bullshit is this. It's so creepy and icky on so many levels. They had such a great sibling dynamic in the earlier season.

And I haven't even got into the weird age gap between the actors. Aiden would've been 16 or younger when Lila was introduced. Why why did they write this.

Well, the argument was going well. Not that Luca cared much whenever him and Teddy argued. It could be over anything, tonight was because she was sick of him trying to freestyle over a beat and he was sick of her asking to play some fucking pop-punk shit. How could it be pop and punk at the same time? Xavier's room was already occupied, Teddy and Luca laughing as they walked (fell) in on what was probably Asher and Pri. He hadn't been able to look for long to be sure just shouting a laugh of "Animales." at them as he left again with Teddy. Diego's room was good enough. Honestly, if Teddy hadn't insisted they took it elsewhere Luca would've scarred his family for life. "I thought you said next time you see me you were gonna punch me." Luca laughed at her, falling with her to the bed in a kiss as he snaked his hands to her wrists. "You're always all talk."

“The only time a lawyer can cry is when it’s all over” | The real meaning behind this quote and why it means so much to me <3

I made another analysis post of sorts because this is something that bugs me a lot. Over the years, I’ve seen so many people treat this quote as something equivalent to saying “you’re not allowed to cry, ever” when that’s just not true! Lemme explain why.

What it’s supposed to mean is that as a lawyer, you’re not supposed to get emotionally invested in a case. You can’t discover the harsh truth if you let your emotions get in the way. Mia resonated with the meaning of Diego’s words which is why she clung to them so tightly, and she passed it onto Phoenix who then passed it onto Apollo and Athena.

It really irks me that so many people perceive this advice as “toxic” simply because Diego didn’t want Mia to cry at that moment. It also hurts me that the fandom treats it as if Diego started a “manipulative” trend. Like I’m sorry, but he never said that crying is weak. He says, “you can’t cry yet.” Not “you can’t cry, period.” There were two points Diego wanted to get across to her:

1: He doesn’t want Mia to give up.

2: There is always time to cry outside the courtroom.

It obviously hurt him deeply when he saw Mia so defeated. When Mia heaped all the blame onto herself, and was about to give up everything, Diego wanted to reassure her that “it’s not over yet.” The thing about crying is all metaphorical, he doesn’t literally mean you can only cry when it’s all over. It’s simply a metaphor to reassure her that she should keep pressing forward no matter how painful it is. Diego always speaks in metaphors, so why wouldn’t this important quote also be one too? You shouldn’t take everything he says so literally.

Of course, Diego is not the kind of person to show his true emotions at all. I believe it’s the result of dealing with too many harsh truths in his life. Even when he wants to show he’s emotionally in pain, he ends up physically hurting himself by crushing a mug in his hand. Yet he still smiles when doing so. He’s so used to smiling through pain that he forgot how to express himself in a healthy way. Due to his behaviour, I can assume he’s already been through something traumatic several times as a lawyer. Something that the player never finds out.

Now just because he has that flaw, doesn’t mean he’s trying to make Mia do the same. It was a moment of reassurance that he expressed based on his own experience. What Mia picks up from it, is up to her. In fact, she has her own way of saying his advice: “A lawyer is someone who smiles no matter how bad it gets.” She understood the meaning of his words, but she changed crying into smiling, to put a more positive spin on it. Then she went on to say “You can’t smile at the end if you haven’t been smiling the whole way there.” Again, this is specifically advice for a lawyer. This doesn’t apply to her personal life. It’s her own way of saying “never give up, even if it’s bad.” She’s took a liking to speaking in metaphors.

Phoenix sticks by her words just like how Mia stuck to Diego’s. Phoenix is a lot like Mia, so his advice doesn’t really change from hers. But what he adds to this is the gambling aspect. Phoenix always won in poker because he’s good at keeping a good poker face. I believe it’s because of Mia’s advice that he managed to use that skill so well in the first place. I absolutely love the way this quote evolves over time, and it shows how it all links back to Diego; making him a very important character in my book.

Another aspect that I like is how Godot basically had to fight against his own advice. With him being so lost without Mia, he was forced to put his own beliefs to the test. Yet, in that same light, he was saved by it; because Phoenix saved him. Phoenix only managed to save Diego because he followed Mia’s advice, who learned it from Diego. I love how it all came full circle.

As Godot, he (ironically) allowed his feelings to get in the way of the truth. This is something Diego taught himself not to do. He couldn’t trust in the (w)right person because he thought it was all over. Phoenix proved him wrong by following Mia’s advice. At that moment, Diego/Godot learned a valuable lesson.

Something else I’d like to add, even though these characters don’t relate to Diego at all, is something that Tyrell Badd says in aai1. When Gumshoe was a rookie, he told him something along the lines of “a detective should never get emotionally involved in a case.” To me, it has the exact same meaning as “the only time a lawyer can cry is when it’s all over.” However, I don’t see anyone call Badd’s advice toxic.

Another interesting thing I’ve noticed is that when Diego does say this quote, he’s always bleeding. He’s only ever said this two times, yet it stuck throughout the entire series. Once in Turnabout Beginnings, and the other time was when it was actually all over. Mia and Diego clearly needed each other in order for them to properly express themselves. When they were torn apart, they had difficulty asking for help. Never separate the poor meow meows. <3

Anyway, I think that’s all I wanted to say. Hopefully I’ll be able to see more people appreciate the real meaning behind Diego’s words now. 🥺🙏

My takeaway from this is: “Express your feelings but don’t let them get in the way.” Honestly, I think that should become Athena’s advice for aa7. 🥰

Bridget/Vapore: Congratulations to Velvet on winning the photoshoot challenge!

Darren/Velvet: With a face like this, it was inevitable!

Michael B./Jacqueline: Why couldn’t it have been you with the hurt ankle?

[Everyone laughs]

Michael D./Lady Astrid: Valerie, how are you feeling? 

David/Valerie: I’m disappointed that I didn’t give the challenge my all.

Michael B./Jacqueline: That’s not the Valerie I know! You’ve gotta pick yourself up and do what you came here to do!

David/Valerie: [in a confessional] I came very close to going home last night. If I can’t keep my focus, I might not be so lucky next time.

Diamond: [entering the work room] Well, helloooooooo my queens! I know we’re all shocked by Vixen’s departure due to an injury, but the show goes on! Today you’ll be scaring up the drama in a horror feature called “The Haunting of Hell House on Haunted Hill.” I’ll be directing you on set, so be spooky and don’t forget to make me laugh!

[The queens are assigned their roles and begin rehearsing. Michael B. sees that David is struggling and takes him aside for a chat]

Michael B./Jacqueline: Okay, Valerie, what gives? It’s not like you to be so distracted.

David/Valerie: I know, I just can’t stop worrying about how things are going at home. I’m not used to being away from my kids and husband. 

Michael B./Jacqueline: You’re such a good dad, though. I’m sure your kids will be fine without you.

David/Valerie: I wish I could be sure of that. [crying] It’s just hard being here and not knowing what’s going on.

David/Valerie: [in a  confessional] My kids are good kids, but my son has been heading down the wrong path. [beginning to cry] You do the best you can for your kids, but sometimes it feels like your best isn’t enough.

[The queens get ready and head to the set for filming]

David/Valerie: [in character as Stacy] Now look at what you’ve done! You’ve awakened the–the…[breaking character] I’m sorry, I forgot my lines again.

Diamond: One more try and then we’ll have to move on.

David/Valerie: I’m sorry everyone. I’ll try to get it together.

Michael B./Jacqueline: You’ve got this!

[On the main stage, the final version of “The Haunting of Hell House on Haunted Hill” is shown]

Darren/Velvet: [in character as Beverly] Gee Stacy, having a costume party on the night a crazed serial killer is on the loose sure was a great idea!

David/Valerie: [in character as Stacy] You’re right, Beverly! And it’s even better that we’re having it in the haunted house my grandparents left me. I just hope that no one touches that cursed vase over there.

Bridget/Vapore: [in character as Maria] You mean this cursed vase? [reaches for the vase]

All: Maria, no!

David/Valerie: [in character as Stacy] Now look what you’ve done! You’ve awakened the evil spirit inside the vase! Michael B./Jacqueline: [in character as Didi] And look! Your grandfather's portrait turned into a scary but kind of sexy werewolf!

Bridget/Vapore: [in character as Maria] Oops!

Michael D./Lady Astrid: [in character as Brittany] Um, something’s coming this way! And it’s big!

[A large figure emerges from the shadows as everyone screams]

All: Yamachan???

Yamachan: [giggling] Yes, it’s me, Yamachan! I just stopped by to remind you all that my new movie Yamachan’s Big Adventure is heading to theaters soon! Don't miss it!

All: [laughing] Oh, Yamachan!

[The judges clap]

Diamond: Fantastic work! Judges, what did you think of “The Haunting of Hell House on Haunted Hill”?

Izzy: Everyone was so good that even I’m having a hard time finding fault with it!

Penny: You were all very funny, but Vapore really nailed her role! 

Diego: This group is really the best of the best. I don’t envy Diamond having to decide who goes home tonight.

Diamond: We’re really going to have to get down to the wire with this. It’s going to come down to the finer details. I will say that even though it didn't show in the final cut, Valerie was having a hard time remembering her lines in rehearsal.   Izzy: And wasn't she in the running for elimination last week? Penny: That's true, but I see a lot of potential in Valerie. I don't think it's her time to go yet.

Diego: Then who else do you think deserves to go home tonight?

Penny: I--I don't know.

I’ve made my decision. Vapore Lawave, you are the winner of this week’s challenge! Valerie Galloway, I’m sorry but it’s not your time to shine. You will be going home tonight.
