RAAAAAGH I'M INSANE ABOUT LAURANCE. anyway i have a lot of thoughts about gene and laurance as some weird combination of foils/parallels and i had to make art about it

specifically though i'm insane about the physical ways laurance's experience with gene may have manifested. in s1ep53, gene expresses that he wants to kill laurance for his role in stranding him and his cohort in the nether. he (of course) gets his wish, turning laurance into a shadow knight, the process of which always requires death in order to transform the person in question.

HOWever. you also have to get a person to kill someone they're close to in order to finalize their shift, and laurance was very obviously dedicated to aphmau in full. gene could have changed laurance's memories to get him to kill her once they escaped the nether, but we see laurance immediately after he leaves the nether, and his memories are intact. therefore, he had to have chosen another way to break laurance's spirit.

additionally, because the group had no idea how long they were going to be In the nether, gene had all the time in the world to enact vengeance on the person he viewed as responsible for his entrapment.

all of that combines into (what i believe to be) the conditions necessary for gene to decide that yeah, maiming and tormenting laurance is the move.

AND THUS. the scars.

firstly, i chose to concentrate all of the scars on his face because laurance, as a lovable casanova, would likely value his appearance greatly, and gene would seek to destroy that. additionally, i hc that shadow knights have long nails similar to claws (not an uncommon thought lol).

on our right, the four slashes on laurance's cheek were caused by gene clawing at his face in a fit of anger.

the scars across his lip, nose, and eyebrow were more calculated, with gene choosing to slowly cut laurance's face in noticeable and painful places (along bone, cartilage, and tissue with lots of nerves near the surface) with his nails.

lastly, the burn mark on laurance's other cheek is from gene shoving him down onto netherrack, which burns severely. laurance had clothing covering every other part that hit the ground, but his face wasn't as lucky.

these are also the only marks that remain visible; blunt force trauma, broken bones, and psychological trauma don't generally show up as scars.

in summary: the spectre of gene haunts laurance in more ways than one.

Gotham 2014 omegaverse hcs. Sorry

DISCLAIMER: This post was not made with the intent of it being gooning material. I am only making this post because taking this concept completely serious is the funniest thing to me and I have no motivation currently to finish my more serious Gotham posts. Enjoy my madness or stone me for it. Both choices are reasonable. Bruce, Ivy and Selina will not be included in this HCS list for obvious reasons.

Jim- beta who pretends to be an alpha. Despite it being a system that he does not fit neatly under, he will still cling to it because the status quo is how he defines his world. Basically trying to fulfill an impossible ideal similarly to what he does with his work. I totally did not assign this to him as punishment. Fakes his smell with perfumes emulating how alphas smell.

Oswald- I know it’s easy to assign Oswald as an overcompensating omega BUT!!!!! Alpha who pretends to be a beta. Hear me out. He already doesn’t fit in so him being an alpha that doesn’t fulfill the societal standard for them would be isolating. He would of course accept his difference just like he does with everything else that he has been bullied for, but it’s still a spot sore enough that he hides his true nature. Think similarly to him hiding his nature from fish. He would believe the societal standards for alphas and omegas are all bullshit so would just pretend to be a beta so he doesn’t have to think about it all. frequent blockers and perfume to hide his scent user.

Edward- Omega that pretends to be a beta. Been doing this since leaving his father as both a way to ensure safety and so he would escape a role he was bullied and abused for all of his life. Just like Oswald, he also thinks the roles are completely idiotic and finds alphas just as overdramatic and illogical as omegas are claimed to be. He hates both sides for how much they cling to stereotypes and act like they’re all true no matter what. Nonetheless, he pretends he doesn’t feel this way most of the time since my boy is masking and trying to get people to like him. As soon as he’s the riddler he stops holding back those opinions. Abuses suppressants and hides his scent with perfumes even if he is riddler though. His ocd demons would get him if he didn’t. You know how Edward is

(Also. Nygmobblepot tanget here. Ed and Oswald would bond over having to pretend to be betas in this scenario. They would. They both feel isolated and belittled for their status whether it be they do not fit into the stereotypes or their role is used as justification for bullying. They would both feed into the others idea that they are superior to it all. And as soon as they start hating eachother in season three, they claim the other is acting just as how an alpha or omega would act to hurt them. Edward sees Oswald as an average abusive alpha who can’t control his anger or emotions and Oswald seeing Edward as an omega who THINKS he has escapes every stereotype of omegas when he embodies them constantly. Even in this fucking situation they find a way to hurt eachother. We gotta throw these two out)

Leslie- my first conviction for her was Omega but like. I'm assigning her an alpha pretending to be an Omega idgaf it suits her. She did try to convince herself she was an omega for years but she couldn’t lie to herself forever. Since being an alpha is inconvenient to how she presents herself, she hides and represses it. Think like an extended version of the while Tetch virus inner darkness shit she had. This is the mindset I’m applying her. Uses blockers and tries to hide her scent but stops hiding her scent during the narrows arc because she sees no point in lying about who she truly is now.

Barbara- Omega BUT!!!! Pretends to be an alpha post Arkham stay because she's insecure and wants to have power in some way. No one believes her. Abuses suppressants and perfumes season one for the reason stated above

Tabitha- alpha. No comment.

Butch- insecure beta. Not apart of this madness even if he unreasonably wishes he was a little bit.

Fish- alpha. No comment.

Bullock- alpha. A very backwards alpha to the point every time the Omegaverse roles get brought up around him it's fucking awful. Jim cringes from it. This doesn't stop him from fucking fish though that's a exception

Lucius- beta. #notfreakyliketherestofyall #mightbethefirstfreakybetathoughsonevermind

Kristen- beta BUT!!! Pretends to be an Omega all the time due to her history of dating alphas. Every alpha she's met has a major Omega bias and sees betas as kinda a dissapointment so she has been faking this shit for years. Tries to fake Omega traits and says she's on suppreants when it comes to her not having any heats. Edward was the first person she dated that made her feel like she could be more open due to his "beta" status (GIRL DON’T FOCUS ON WHAT ROLE HE IS!!!! RUN!!!!)

Isabella- Omega. Genuinely the most stereotypical Omega known to man to the point every Omega besides Edward cringes from her behavior. Avoids suppressants to the point it teeters on self harm. Stand up.

Jerome- Omega that pretends to be an alpha. Think of the damn imagery.

Jeremiah- alpha that pretends to be a Omega. Wolf in sheep's clothing situation here.

Zsasz- sterilized omega. No comment

It deeply upsets me that there aren’t a lot of analysis posts off of Lesley, at least ones that don’t completely mischaracterize her. Often times Lesley is watered down to just being “Yellow’s Mom” by the fandom and nothing else. Lesley is tragic. She is not motherly, she’s a prisoner. A prisoner in a prison partially of her own design, but a prisoner nonetheless. matpat, and the david theory in general has rotted people’s brains. It’s fine to have an interpretation of a character, I could care less, but it’s an entirely different thing all together to completely miss the point of a character. Watching the line “you’re one of my favorites….” be brushed aside for what is otherwise a completely unserious line is infuriating. There’s no actual proof that Lesley is Yellow’s mother outside of theories. When she says “you’re not my real son” In my eyes, it’s more so in the way that she is the creator, and he is her creation, not that Lesley is actually an author, she just thinks she is. The trio represent parts of her, almost everything they do is by her hands. They’re miserable because Lesley is miserable. She believes herself to be an author, a creator, but she doesn’t hold any real power, just a small amount. Yellow didn’t scale the staircase on his own, everything was meticulously laid out by Lesley. Because, the truth is, he represents a part of Lesley that she has long since forgotten, the part of her that genuinely wants to change, to progress instead of regress. By giving yellow his batteries and bringing him up stairs, she is checking that she is still alive. That there is still that small part of her that can change.

But, as previously stated, she doesn’t have any real power, and she has no interest in truly changing. She has strings of her own, she can’t change even if she wanted to. Lesley has a tendency of setting up scenarios where the puppets are given a false sense of control. She does it with red in transport, and she does it again in electricity with yellow. In her mind she’s teaching them, teaching them that things cannot stray outside of what she has laid out for them. It’s her own twisted way of helping. Yellow, unlike red, possesses a genuine ability to question things and a natural curiosity. Lesley knows this. That’s precisely why his batteries are denied from him, unless Lesley hands them to him on a silver platter when convenient. Yellow has to pay the price of being constantly disoriented, to be in a constant state of confusion because if he isn’t then that would entail Lesley addressing what is pulling on her strings. The batteries are a threat to this cycle, hence why Lesley gifts him a book of false knowledge. A book of nothing. A red herring. She knows where that book is going, straight into the shredder as it always does. Where it should be. Because ever so slightly out of shot at the end of her room sits a door that creaks open every once in a while and she dare not question it. A door that she ignores as she continues on playing her piano as she always does. As it should be. No questions to be had. Just the keys of a piano echoing emptily in a dilapidated dollhouse, and the ghost of an artist who lost herself eons ago.
