no because wan shi tong’s philosophy ‘knowledge for the sake of knowledge’ without putting that knowledge to practical use is essentially elitist bullshit. one can understand why wan shi tong remained neutral, why most spirits remained neutral to the war, but just because wan shi tong could’ve been right that does not mean sokka was necessarily wrong, or entitled or arrogant or reckless when using the library’s stored content for strategy. the war destroyed his home and people and culture and aang’s home and people and culture for literally no reason, and sokka has all the reasons in the world to use knowledge (which we all know he loves!!) to his advantage. what wan shi tong was doing, keeping the library away from humans and their conflicts was to some degree understandable after what zhao took from his library, but his philosophy itself of collecting knowledge simply to have it stored getting dust on the cover just to prove he has it is fundamentally a lazy, selfish way to be a so-called ‘schoolar’, and however justified he might have been in his distrust i will always prefer sokka’s approach to the collection and purpose of knowledge. knowledge for the sake of everything else. knowledge as a tool to better the world, wisdom as a tool to better the world. what good are knowledge and wisdom if not to use it to express ideas, to form new ideas, to use those ideas to solve problems in a practical and ethical manner? knowledge for the sake of knowledge is such an unnecessarily miserable concept, while knowledge for the sake of action is revolutionary. and that’s what sokka was going about
