hi! I saw your post about Fourth Wing and I've read both books - and am planning to read the third. it's okay? a little hard to swallow which says a lot bc i like just about any anything. the general consensus im seeing is like you said: dragons are the coolest part of this series and that it does not get better after book 1.

AI is used in many harmful ways, but when it is FINALLY used for something actually useful and actually helpful that proves to be more effective than human alternatives in some usually inaccessible assistance like accessibility tools, it should be fucking celebrated for once instead of being criticised out of a habit of hating everything with the word ai in it.
AI is a tool that is not inherently evil. Language models aren't represented by as a whole by catastrophic failure of google summaries trained on some trash sources and generative ai like midjourney whose entire existence is a big copyright violation. Language models aren't limited to commercial giants like those owned by openAI and Google that require huge computational power to run, some can run on a local machine like a laptop and are open. They're getting more effective with less computational power needed over time as they improve. Did you know that? If not, now you do.

listen i think if you look at it there are genuine things "ai" (just gonna skate right parts how i hate these arguments flattening the realities of generative models, llms, etc.) has contributed to the worsening of and yea those things already existed and like... its tangibly bad, its a tool that can do a lot of bad things and we should maybe prepare our moral systems to even comprehend those things... and yet people's best arguments against it is misunderstood trivia, IP law, and some christian bullshit. and their solution is to blow it up forevers, like i personally really don't wanna use ai for much but these arguments are not swaying me at all. do yall know "ai" has been part of making your gpu drivers for years or are we all stupid here, this is so philosophically dire that we don't even know what we're talking about and a person pointing out inconsistencies in your beliefs gets painted as "pro-ai" like if you think that there's even a meaningful definition of ai there's still no way to necessarily be pro or anti, it's a thing that exists and people use. form a single opinion that isn't completely annoyingly totalizing

Is funny that mickey mouse came into public domain right around the time the internet is arguing about AI art discourse.
everyone is happy to celebrate and do much ado about appropriating, using and desecration the rat. But given the mainstream opinion on artists copyright I have to wonder what the fuck are they celebrating exactly.
I celebrate because I hate copyright and every time it expires it's good for me. They are presumably celebrating because their masters dropped a few crumbs of food on the tip of the boot they enjoy licking so much.
