I will stand by this till death takes me apart.
Tumblr media
The sheer fact that The Problematic Prince might actually have been a masterpiece and a wonderfully done case study of a realistic patriarchal Institution, the underlying misogyny of society, and a woman's true, genuine struggles to try to escape this web, but instead we're stuck with it being a shitty 'romance'- I'm sorry, NOT ROMANCE, I am not calling it that. Its all because the the author Sochel, loves her 'male leads' as irredeemable and disgusting as possible.
Erna is genuinely such a beautiful character, her descent into despair is so realistically done, the crushing weight of her institutional responsibilities and her emotionally abusive, yes, abusive husband, all pull her so down in the depths of absolute misery.
Tumblr media
She is a victim of abuse. At the hands of her father. At the hands of her husband. And most importantly, at the hands of society. Yet, we see her plight being undermined by the narrative itself. It's despicable, just because the author has some weird kinks.
Tumblr media
I have so, SO MANY, more pointers for this, but man I'm just pissed off rn. Nor do I have the energy to type because two nights of no sleep can really do a number on you.
Tumblr media
But good god do I hate wasted potential.
(Also my English is like, fucked FUCKED, so-)
I'm going to actually write a full ass essay on this when i get a break from school. I simply HAVE to.

has anyone noticed how the strongest guiding force of both erna and layla seems to be their sense of debt??
erna accepts bjorn's proposal because she feels indebted to him for helping her family. then she tries her level best to make that marraige work because she believes she "owes" it to her grandmother to be happy like she promised rather than "wanting" to be happy herself???
a lot of people say erna expected more from the marriage than what bjorn wanted to give but i honestly think erna's "love" for bjorn was more of a survival mechanism than anything else. she had no idea how badly she would be ostracized and villified because of gladys and believed "loving" bjorn would help her "endure."
it's a conspiracy theory of mine but notice how erna feel out of love with bjorn AFTER the whole Gladys thing was cleared and she was finally accepted in society?? i think erna finally subconsciously felt she didn't need to endure anymore and had payed off her debts by becoming the face of hatred in place of bjorn among other things.

Y'know, I spent at least an hour scrolling through Viren/Lissa posts on many different platforms. The people defending Viren? Majority of them were men. The people defending Lissa? Majority of them were women.
The defenses for Viren were things like: "But it was for his son!", "He had to make her because she wouldn't do it herself!", "She should've just gave him her tears!" And then they'd bring up useless shit about Viren that doesn't even correlate to what he did to Lissa to make people feel bad for HIM.
The people defending Lissa are right.
Because she was assaulted, and she was violated. By the man she devoted herself to and trusted, friendly reminder. No mother wants to see her child suffer, so stop saying she didn't care. That's your argument in defense of the perpetrator?
Lissa gave her children the option of who to go with. Soren chose Viren, maybe because he saved him? Maybe because that's what felt right to Soren? Maybe he was afraid of his mother's sadness? Who knows? It probably would have been better had Claudia gone with Lissa, but Lissa told Claudia to stay because she needed to stay with her brother. She said nothing about Viren. She couldn't bear to keep her children apart.
Lissa did not "leave" as a bad mother, she saved herself. How many women are able to leave after they've been assaulted in a relationship? This happens in our reality too. Women are reprimanded and picked on because they didn't leave their abusive relationship, then they are reprimanded and picked on because they did leave their abusive relationship.
Try as you might, you cannot defend the perpetrator. Viren cannot be defended.

as  much  as  i  sympathize  with  the  readers  who’ve  devoted  their  time  to  supporting  iaptbap,  i  think  it’s  in  poor  taste  to  say  you  want  the  fic  to  continue.
think  about  it:  who  would  write  the  story  in  lavenoor’s  absence?  someone  who  lavenoor  gives  the  account  to,  a  friend  who  has  chosen  to  maintain  contact  with  a  groomer?  not  to  mention  how  the  victim  would  feel  if  their  groomer's  fic  continues  to  receive  love  and  attention  despite  the  author  telling  a  child  she  wanted  to  date  them.
i’m  urging  everyone  to  please  write  your  own  fic.  fuck  the  feelings  of  a  groomer  who  didn’t  apologize  and  ran  away  when  she  was  outed — she  does  not  own  the  concept  of  a  yandere  disney  princess  harem  isekai.  not  like  she  can  stop  you  from  writing  your  own  fic  unless  she  decides  to  not  be  a  coward  and  face  what  she  did  head-on.  stop  looking  to  her  for  content  since  i  can  promise  that  every  single  one  of  you  can  write  something  far  superior  to  any  slop  that  groomer  put  out.  let  iaptbap  die  and  fuck  lavenoor

Actually feels like I'm losing my mind sometimes 'cause the TDP fandom is the only fandom where it feels like people are hardly at all fawning over the well curated selection of gay DILFs in the series.
Like this is one of the few children's media I know that has canonical mpreg (that's somehow done in a way that's also treated with just as much seriousness as it's treated comedically) and... no one cares? I mean, maybe that wasn't shocking to the fandom at the time and of course a ton of other shit has happened that's gone beyond that (like the cannibalism maybe), but seriously. Surely that should attract people to this show, right?
I mean, tragic old man yaoi became so popular in 2024, I saw everyone talking about it all throughout the year on Tumblr. And no one looked into exploring viravos more through that? Like, what? The way the ship so perfectly aligned with people's ideals for that trope and even hit points that I felt like some people said the most popular ships of that trope weren't able to fit... And if anything it seems like viravos has died down since mid 2024 (around when season 6 came out and when this trope seemed to be peaking in popularity because of the other media coming out at the time that used it) within the show's own fanbase. And it used to be the second most popular ship at that too.
And again, it's one thing for none of these characters or ships to be the main appeal for the fanbase itself... But somehow none of these things draw other people in? That's the crazy part to me. That's what's mind boggling.
#the dragon prince#tdp#viravos#viren#lord viren#aaravos#tdp viren#viren tdp#tdp aaravos#aaravos tdp#another day of wondering why is the series so damn underrated#this turned out to be more of a rant then I intended it to be#but okay so this is my own personal theory#I think a lot of this has to do with the advertising done for the show and creators' interactions with the fandom#cuz it seems like the creators are more heavily aiming at appealing to already existing fans#and I think the thing is most of the already existing fans aren't actually into those things (at least not much anymore)#so there's a lot more promortional material that's made for rayllum and draggang fans#cuz that's a lot more popular currently in the fandom#even tho outside of the fandom what's referenced in the post is what's currently more popular#so ppl outside the show aren't getting exposed to those aspects of the show that are more appealing in bigger fandom spaces#does that make sense?#like even the very few (but well known) ytbers who've done videos on tdp still seem to be more focused on rayllum above anything else#despite also not seeming to be that invested in the fandom#cuz that's all tdp presents itself as and allows itself to present as#(not that that's a bad thing)#also obviously this isn't me saying we should idolize problematic men in media and I'm glad the tdp fandom holds ppl accountable for that#and obviously like the main canon wlw and the most popular mlm ships (janaya and sorvus) are by miles healthier then viravos#but still#(also anyone who thinks that the subreddit is still made up of viren/virrow stans I assure you they lost interest post s6)

Anyone else tired of people lauding Zuko's redemption arc as "the gold standard of redemption arcs"? While its popularity is far from unearned, I wouldn't call his arc the "be-all and end-all" of examples; doing so entails overlooking other redemption arcs for taking different approaches to redeeming characters than the Zuko arc.
Tumblr media
His misdeeds were a bit more serious than that, bud. Yet at the same time, the retweeter is correct about one thing: Zuko's crimes are indeed easier to stomach — the other villains outdid him in the heinous department — making him palatable to people who don't want redemption arcs for characters that do really bad stuff.
So, without further ado, here are some redeemed characters with worse misdeeds under their belts than Zuko!
Cartoons

Grace Monroe (Infinity Train)

Do you ship it?
Tumblr media
Problematic Reasons: Enemies. Qi Rong helped murder Lang Qianqiu's entire family and once Lang Qianqiu found out he was responsible for the massacre he vowed to hunt him down for revenge (he did destroy Qi Rong's preferred ghost body once, by slicing him in half and teasing him in a cauldron, but then Qi Rong just possessed the body of some guy and ended up a single father).
Propaganda: The drama of it all compels me. Also Lang Qianqiu is looking after Qi Rong's adoptive son while they wait for Qi Rong to reform his ghost body (different situation than the aforementioned slicing+cauldron thing), so... enemies-to-coparents-to-friends-to-lovers? 🥴

I see people ship their characters with Daedric Princes, or at least simp and/or thirst very hard for them coughNocturnalcough but like what about the Aedra? The Divines? Yeah, no one wants to ship their character with Talos. I understand. But there are other options! Dibella-shaped options! And Stendarr, okay? I like Stendarr. And Arkay. And I know you all love Kyne/Kynareth, don't lie!
