There's nothing inherently wrong with new crossbreed projects and I do think it's a bit uncouth to use "designer dog" as a blanket pejorative because folks set out on breeding new crosses for an array of different reasons. Like if you wanna argue semantics the eurasier could have easily been dubbed a designer breed that's just been canonized into the FCI registry, they weren't bred with any specific "work" in mind beyond being a companion animal.

Personally my guidelines for designer dog (negative) are crosses that are planned purely on aesthetics while negating any temperament matchups but most importantly one that's actively being marketed to the normie masses as their new perfect pet and clearly using mill tactics to produce and sell puppies. I think that's what separates doodles from silkens and things like agility borderpaps or lurchers. If a dog nut did their homework and wants to start a little breed project with their circle of dog nut friends it's not really hurting anyone, those aren't the crosses that fill up shelters. It's pretty easy to tell which "designers" are made primarily with monetary gain in mind and which aren't.

"Welcome to Project Hybridize, also known as the Hybridization Project." *Director Green explained calmly,* "At this lab, we pride ourselves on the quality of our main project, but also our smaller, secondary ones. We make sure everything is perfect."

*Mech and Vet both wave as greeting. Gen is nowhere to be seen, likely in his office, working.*

So I've been thinking about the Project Hybridize pov characters and..

(Ramble under cut)

The three of them have very different motivations for doing what they do.

With Gen, it's "Anything for the sake of knowledge."

With Mech, it's "Anything for the greater good."

With Vet, its "Anything to sate my curiosity."

But even with such different motivations, they still parallel each other.

Mech, when he first got into this, was only 17.

Mech and Gen both started with good intentions.

Gen didn't know what he was getting into.

Mech... kind of knew, but with one of the directors being his father figure, he thought that it was all for the greater good.

And, to an extent, he still thinks that.

And Vet always knew that what he was doing was bad, yet even he started with good intentions. He had been told it was a normal veterinarian job, and by the time he realized, he didn't feel like he could back out.

Its similar with Gen. He wasn't told what he was getting into, yet he feels like he can't lose this job.

He can't afford to lose the job at the lab, which is why he stays. He doesn't want to be there, but he feels like he has no other option.

And maybe, his morals will bend and break, like the others.

Anyway yeah thats my tangent-

ok so Samuel is a mountain lion, a puma, right? A species of animal whose historic range is almost entirely just north America, never seen the old world and all that. And it's very much just a loose pattern, but later echo games including TSR have made a pretty obvious push to depict characters as animals native to the region their from, so there's no real reason that wouldn't apply to Samuel, you know? But also like, he's got himself a set of pretty round ears, huh? Pumas tend to have more angular ears we'd associate with felidae cats, Samuel's lean much more panthera. Kind of a lot more like true lions, when you really think about it. Anyway, in this post I'll go into the specifics of my reading of Samuel as an Afro-Indigenous character whose identity and albinism tie together the way he's fetishized and objectified by the mostly European clientele he sells himself too and-

I've been drawing my girl Mira more and more so I should have a full on concept page for her soon enough. Just gonna snag some armor images for her time with the Reds and Blues. Not to mention her scary dog privilege of a mother.

GLORY FOR RED TEAM!!! Yes the lines on her face are mandibles, she's half alien cause her momma got a bit..... Freaky. One of the only hybrids that has survived to adulthood(for one reason or another mind you.)
