Promise of Destruction Pt. 1
Locate the Missing Seekers
Cassandra Masterpost
The PC enters to war room to find Cassandra looking over the maps.
Choice dependent dialogue:
Low approval [1]
High approval [2]
1 - Low approval Cassandra: Something in particular you require?
Dialogue options:
General: Am I intruding? [3]
General: Touchy, aren’t we? [4]
General: What are you doing? [5]
3 - General: Am I intruding? PC: I see I’m intruding. I’ll be on my way. Cassandra: No, wait. [9]
4 - General: Touchy, aren’t we? PC: I see I’ve touched a nerve. Cassandra: I… suppose I do need your help. [9]
5 - General: What are you doing? PC: You could tell me what you’re doing here. Cassandra: I… suppose I do need your help. [9]
2 - High approval Cassandra: (Sighs.) I can keep staring at this, but I won’t get any closer.
Dialogue options:
General: Can I help? [6] +Cassandra slightly approves
General: Stubborn as ever? [7]
General: Closer to what? [8]
6 - General: Can I help? PC: Something I can help you with? Cassandra: Yes. Possibly. [9]
7 - General: Stubborn as ever? PC: Keep banging your head against the problem. It will go away eventually. Cassandra: (Chuckles.) I’m predictable, I know. Cassandra: I suppose I’ll never find them on my own. [9]
8 - General: Closer to what? PC: What are you looking for? Cassandra: I suppose I’ll never find them on my own. [9]
9 - Scene continues.
Cassandra (sided templars): You recall the demon at Therinfal? The one impersonating Lord Seeker Lucius? We never found the real Lord Seeker—or his body. Cassandra (sided mages): We saw so many red templars at the assault on Haven. Perhaps all that was left of the Order. What we didn’t see was Lord Seeker Lucius.
Cassandra: Indeed, I’ve seen no hint of any Seekers amongst the red templars. Or anywhere. I’ve a growing suspicion Corypheus has imprisoned them.
10 - Dialogue options:
Investigate: Couldn’t they be dead? [11]
General: This is important to you. [12] +Cassandra slightly approves
General: They might be his allies. [13]
General: What’s the point? [14] -Cassandra slightly disapproves
11 - Investigate: Couldn’t they be dead? PC: Why imprisoned? He could just as easily have killed them. Cassandra: Not easily. But yes, they may be dead.
Cassandra (sided templars): Yet a demon of envy does not kill whomever it replaces: it hides them away and learns about them. Cassandra (sided mages): But the Seeker began this war against the mages. They cannot have simply vanished.
Cassandra: There must be a trail we can follow, yet so far I have only discovered hints.
Dialogue options:
Special: What if they’re infected? [15]
[Back to 10]
15 - Special: What if they’re infected? PC: But they could have ended up just like the red templars. Cassandra: Seekers do not use lyrium. I assume Corypheus gained control of the templars by corrupting the lyrium they were already taking. To do the same to a Seeker, you’d have to force the lyrium upon him. That may be what happened, but it couldn’t have began that way. We’re missing a piece of puzzle, Inquisitor. I need to find it. [back to 10]
12 - General: This is important to you. PC: Finding them obviously means a lot to you. [16]
13 - General: They might be his allies. PC: Wherever they are, they might be working with Corypheus willingly. Cassandra: I refuse to believe that without proof. [16]
14 - General: What’s the point? PC: They’re gone. What difference does it make where they are. [16]
16 - Scene continues.
Cassandra (low approval): I don’t expect you to understand. Cassandra (high approval): I left the Order, but I can never abandon them.
Cassandra: I cannot claim that rescuing them would be beneficial—they wouldn’t look kindly on the Inquisition. But even so, if there’s a chance…
They begin to make their wat out of the war room.
Cassandra (romanced): I have leads, but I cannot do this without you. Please help me. Cassandra (non-romanced): If we can spare resources to follow up on these leads, Inquisitor, I would appreciate it.
The PC can speak to Cassandra after the conversation.
Cassandra: I understand if resources cannot be spared to help search for the missing Seekers, Inquisitor. Still, it could involve a threat we are unaware of. There may be a use in looking.
After the PC finds the missing Seekers via War Table Mission.
Cassandra: I understand the Inquisition has tracked down the missing Seekers. Caer Oswin? I didn’t see Bann Loren as the sort of nobleman that would become involved in this war. The sooner we go there, the sooner I can put this search behind me.
Next: Caer Oswin

Marvel making familiars for his loved ones
So I was thinking about Tawky Tawny (again). The thing about him is that he got so many different backstories or explanations on what he might be, but a common enough theme that we see is that he is a stuffed toy when he wants to be.
So here me out.
Tawky Tawny is Billy’s familiar and helps him adjust to his magic when he wants to use it in his small form. He was originally a toy given to Billy by his parents and later given life by The Wizard.
It came with more benefits. Tawny would eat his nightmares, be able to teleport to Billy’s location so that he could never get stolen or lost, protect Billy by going into his tiger form and all around be a constant warmth on his life.
So imagine Billy doing the same as The Wizard.
A lot of his friends aren’t magic users and don’t have the same magical protection he does, so maybe he gives them some enchanted clothing or pendants. A semi familiar (because without magic you can’t make a magical familiar pact with a living animal) where he just makes them familiars.
He would create stuffed animals, and weave in some magic to make them sentient. Maybe it would start with younger heroes, but when he realises his coworkers in the JL need the help as well, he absolutely would make some for them. They, like Tawny prefer to stay in stuffed toy mode, but will sometimes would want to stretch their paws and go into animal form once they feel like they are in a suitable environment.
Just picture it.
It all started with Raven, and the constant stress she might feel with having to constantly guard over Trigon. She can’t have a familiar because most creatures would suffer if give a link to her because her magic is not compatible like that. Captain Marvel decided to make her a companion. He makes her a little leopard wearing an elegant pink suit with a little top hat.
Raven: Is that a plush?
Cap: I heard you have trouble sleeping, so I got you a friend. I haven’t given them a name or pronouns, so that’s up to you.
Raven: … why
Cap: Trust me, they are for nightmares! Tawny *holds up his tiger plush* tells me they are fun to hunt and makes quite the sweet treat.
Raven: *holding the handmade gift* thank you 🥺
Cue shenanigans where she thinks he’s just trying to be a great den mother, and is a tad naive thinking stuffed animals actually work. Not that she isn’t holding little Ebony Darkness every night and is getting the best sleep she has in years.
Another thing to add is that insomnia and PTSD is a common sight within the caped community. And of course Billy notices that. So, after seeing more and more positive results of his plushies, he makes more and more. It becomes a trend. Younger heroes receive a small teddy of an animal and proceed to get attached to it almost immediately.
Nightwing almost cried when he got an elephant wearing a bow tie . Cap said that he seemed like the type to like them. Now Dick has given Zitka a little sibling to sleep at night with. But then that plush becomes fond of Zitka and gave the og elephant plush sentience.
Starfire absolutely adores her shrimp plush. Said something about being able to see colours together. Wally doesn’t know what to think about getting a turtle, but quickly gets attached, even putting little designs in the shell.
Jason also likes to put in patterns in his sting-ray, which Roy doesn’t get cause he thinks his jelly fish is perfect just the way she is. Lian gets a smaller jellyfish, which makes her happy because all the Outlaws get a sea animal.
All the members of YJ, even the retired ones, get a reindeer. They suspect he knows.
It gets back to the JL that Caps giving stuffed toys to their protoges.
Flash: Hey, Cap, how come we don’t get any stuffed animals?
Captain, exited his work is wanted: You want one!!!
Flash, can’t say no to that face: … yes I do
He gets all exited and makes plushies for all of his coworkers, that he pours a bit of extra magic in his work.
CM, fidgeting infringe if the door:
Batman: what is it Captain
CM: I made you something but then I realised that you wouldn’t really want it but then it could be cool if you did and I didn’t want to overthink-
Batman, stopping Billy’s rant: go ahead
CM, hands him a plush snake wearing spectacles: I thought you would like them. I haven’t named them so that’s up to you
Batman, not knowing where to go from here: … is the name important
CM, offended: It’s the MOST important
Batman sighs and keeps the snake. Naturally he does a billion different tests but finds it’s a snake plush. One that’s handmade. That must have taken a lot of time and effort. Batman keeps George Snaking. No he will not admit that having the snake wrapped around his shoulders is soothing.
And it just spirals from there. Hal gets a Sparrow in a poncho, Plastic man gets a kangaroo wearing the nicest boots, Wonder Woman gets a duck in a fancy dress, Aquaman gets a penguin in swim shorts, J’onn gets a lion in a toga … Guy gets a clown fish.
It has no rhyme or reason. The only common thread is that it’s an animal with some sort of clothing. Cap just says that of course they have clothing, they are distinguished and perfectly civilised individuals.
It all come to a head when the League faces some threat, and they are weakened, only for their plushies to fucking teleport and turn into massive version of their respective animals and saves the day.
Hawkwoman, starring at her bear: I- Mrs Snuggles?
Mrs Snuggles: *shrugs*
Shayera: … I could have been getting bear hugs this whole time
Guy: *looks down* Flippers?
Flippers: *flops on the floor*
Guy: ….
Guy: how come the others get bigger version of their animals
The League of Superpets aren’t that worried about competition. They tried to recruit the plush’s, but turns out they are just lazy. Like, they will beat a butch if necessary, but won’t actively go looking for crime to solve. They act more of a home défense.
The only ones who knew about the sentient plushies where Ma and Pa Kent (their Octopus is extent helpful around the farm), Alfred Pennyworth (he’s the one who actually requested hamsters to help keep the manor clean and keep an eye on his family) and Damian who’s instinct immediacy told him his fennec fox is alive.
Oracle got a capybara. The Capybara is the most powerful one Billy has made, second to Tawny. I don’t make the rules.
Constantine is the only one who never got one. Billy is still salty about him trying to steal his powers. Plus he would prolly sell it.

the most delicious thing about justice-anders is that anders has been running for so long. he’s never put down roots anywhere. “anders” isn’t even his name. he is convinced that letting himself care for anyone or anything is a death sentence, that it only stands to be ripped from him and that pain isn’t worth it.
enter justice, a friend, who is in love with the world anders has been locked in a mutual hatred of since he was a child. who asks for nothing but anders’s body (something he has always been willing to give), to borrow anders’s tenuous place in the world, and in return, anders has someone he can count on to stay, who cannot be separated from him no matter how hard anyone tries. no matter what either of them may want.
who are either of them to refuse, really

Promise of Destruction Pt. 3
Fate of the Seekers
Cassandra Masterpost First: Locate the Missing Seekers Previous: Caer Oswin
A Seeker sits at the bottom of a staircase, looking disfigured and tainted. Cassandra runs up.
Cassandra: Daniel! Daniel, can you hear me?
Daniel: Cassandra? It is you. You’re alive.
Cassandra: As are you. I’m so glad I found you.
Daniel: No, they… put a demon inside me. It’s tearing me up.
Cassandra: What? You can’t be possessed—that’s impossible!
Daniel: I’m not possessed. They… fed me things. I can feel it growing.
Dialogue options:
Angry: They will pay. [1]
Anxious: That’s horrible! [2]
Confused: Why would they do this? [3]
Stoic: Can we help him? [4]
1 - Angry: They will pay. PC: The Promisers will pay for what they’ve done. Daniel: No. The Lord Seeker. [5]
2 - Anxious: That’s horrible! PC: Can a demon be grown inside someone? Cassandra: Savages! I will tear every last one of them apart! Daniel: No. The Lord Seeker. [5]
3 - Confused: Why would they do this? PC: What could they hope to gain from this? Cassandra: Our powers. Revenge. Who knows? Daniel: The Lord Seeker. You have to find him. [5]
4 - Stoic: Can we help him? PC: Can we do anything? Cassandra: I… don’t know. This thing inside him… Daniel: The Lord Seeker. You have to find him. [5]
5 - Scene continues.
Cassandra: Of course we’ll find him. If he lives, we’ll—
Daniel: Lucius betrayed us, Cassandra. He sent us here, one by one. “An important mission,” he said. Lies. He was here with them all along. He’s still working with them.
6 - Dialogue options:
Investigate (sided templars): Was it the envy demon? [7]
Investigate (sided mages): But we met the Lord Seeker. [8]
General: I’m so sorry. [9]
General: Can it be true? [10]
General: He’s a dead man. [11]
7 - Investigate: Was it the envy demon? PC: Could it have been the demon from Therinfal? Daniel: No. The demon came later. Cassandra: But a demon couldn’t simply take his place without anyone noticing! Daniel: The Lord Seeker allowed it. He let the demon take command, while he… Cassandra: Came here. [back to 6]
8 - Investigate: But we met the Lord Seeker. PC: But we met Lord Seeker Lucius in Val Royeaux. He couldn’t have been here. Daniel: That wasn’t him. It was a demon, masquerading. Cassandra: What? How could that be? Daniel: The Lord Seeker allowed it. He let the demon take command, while he… Cassandra: Came here. [back to 6]
9 - General: I’m so sorry. PC: Cassandra… Cassandra: Now is not the time for sympathy. [12]
10 - General: Can it be true? PC: Would he really work with these cultists? Cassandra: I intend to find out. [12]
11 - General: He’s a dead man. PC: If we find the Lord Seeker, he’s dead. [12]
12 - Scene continues.
Daniel: Wait! Don’t leave me like this. Please…
The PC turns away.
Cassandra: You should have come with me. You didn’t believe in the war any more than I did.
Daniel: You know me. I wanted that promotion. (Coughs.)
Cassandra: Go to the Maker’s side, Daniel. You will be welcome.
Cassandra stands and draws her sword.
Cassandra: He was my apprentice. I have never known a finer young man. Now we find Lord Seeker Lucius.
Next: The Truth

The fandom god discussion is interesting, but I feel it’s sometimes hindered by an unwillingness to separate gods from mortal society, or even a sort of over-eagerness to project our own reality onto them, which simply doesn’t work. I've seen the gods referred to as rulers or tyrants demanding worship (which I kinda understand because it’s something Ludinus says in-game, though it’s funny to see fandom corners confidently repeat the inaccurate talking points of the antagonist) but more interestingly I've also seen them referred to as a higher/the highest social class, as colonizers imposing themselves on mortals, the raven queen specifically as new money. Overall these comparisons tend to talk about the gods and their actions regarding Aeor in the past and predathos/the Vanguard in the present less as if they're about saving their own lives and more as if they want to preserve their powerful position.
The gods, by their very nature, are above mortals. They cannot be compared to any mortal ruling class because they didn’t choose or strive for that power and cannot feasibly get rid of it/step down/redistribute it (nor do they actually in any sense rule; killing the raven queen, unlike killing an actual queen, will not end the 'tyranny' of death), they simply have it by virtue of being gods. Saying that’s unfair or unequal and that the gods should be killed because of it is akin to saying it’s unfair a mountain is bigger than you and demanding it be levelled, except the gods, unlike mountains, are living, feeling beings who shouldn’t have to die because some people can’t stand the idea of not always being top dog. Thing is, the gods themselves ultimately understood this power imballance and that they can't help but hurt Exandria the way humans can't help but step on bugs, and thus removed themselves from the equation by creating the divine gate. Saying this isn’t enough and that they're clinging to power is just demanding they line themselves up to be killed.
#critical role#cr3#downfall#nella talks cr#ultimately all these 'ruling class' comparisons are simply flawed and don’t work when under the slightest bit of scrutiny#gods arent rulers or tyrants bc they don’t rule and can't be deposed#they are representantations and guardians of (mostly natural) concepts#and those concepts won’t go away bc you killed the gods. death and nature and the fucking sun will still remain#they aren’t colonizers of mortals (wtf lmao) who demand they be worshiped and mortals live according to their oppressive rule#again did you watch calamity? not even before the divine gate did the gods demand worship or even respect#they were never less respected than during the age of arcanum and still they were just chilling#(until someone released the betrayers and they had to step in to stop the ultimate destruction of exandria)#technically you could argue they were colonizers against the titans but even that feels like a stretch#the titans to me feel less like people and more like representations of the chaotic and deathly side of nature#being angry they were killed sounds like being angry someone stopped a hurricane just bc the hurricane was there first#I'm sorry but that hurricane would've flattened you. it wouldn’t appreciate your support bc it isn't a person#and 'a higher social class' fucking NEW MONEY? this is just blatant projection#I'm sorry but not everything more powerful than you is a stand in for oppression#sometimes it’s a narrative stand in for nature and i promise nature isn't oppressing you

... a number of sentences sunday!
from the touch-starved river dissertation i've been working on, ft. him and lamb slowly and painfully realizing they're Literally father and son:
“But—” The absolute jackass that decided to take a bullet meant for our boss. River’s ribs constrict, closing hard around his lungs. He keeps staring out through the windscreen. The pale smudge of blue sky. The sun already half-gone. He can’t look at Lamb. If he looks at Lamb, that’s it, it’s over, he’s done and finished and never coming back. Because if he looks at Lamb, he won’t be able to stop himself from breaking into a sob, and that’s the one thing he knows with absolute certainty that he mustn’t do. “Sir, I don’t understand—” “Don’t fucking sir me,” Lamb spits, and River stiffens. Spine straight. Eyes forward. Perfect little soldier. “Before you turned up on the doorstep, do you know how many agents I had to carpool from hospital, or—or, or, here’s a tricky one, how many of them bled out in the street alone because their colleague couldn’t get it through his thick skull that unless he’s behind a desk the rest of his days he’ll keep getting them killed? Zero, Cartwright. Fucking zero.”

i’m on rewatch number 284 of today’s scenes because i clearly love to suffer in my free time and i can’t wrap my head around how many layers are behind lisa’s behavior.
the most apparent one - she’s projecting guilt onto carla because she can’t stand the thought that she was the one who pulled the trigger on her own daughter.
but she also clearly hates herself because she’s proven her biggest fear to - being a bad mother - to be true by doing the worst a parent can do (albeit unintentionally). and this comes after her finally choosing to prioritize her own happiness too, straying from her well-practiced betsy and the job are my only concerns (which is self-punishment, really). and who’s indirectly responsible for that? carla, whose biggest fault is showing lisa that she can and wants to feel love again. she wants what she once had with becky, just with someone else now (pretty sure there’s a bit of leftover grief there, too). someone else who’s probably different from becky, surely different from lisa - a bit of a dark horse who has ABH as her method of choice to defend the people she loves - but who still managed to conquer her heart after years of emptiness. who’s now holding her hand and promising her that she’s not at fault, that she did the best she could. so, when it’s time for lisa to hate herself and therefore deprive herself of any ounce of happiness and love, equating carla to her murderer brother who has just kept them hostage is actually the easiest way to hurt carla and herself. the most effective in order to push carla away, to hurt her deeply and make her not come back (even though she immediately regrets it).
while carla’s heart is right under the surface all the time, lisa’s is usually buried behind a thousand brick walls. she’s not really used to act by heart and not logic. and if carla hadn’t dislodged lisa’s heart from its retirement, if she hadn’t reminded her that when love is in the picture she really does get too involved - to the point of being borderline inept at her job and not think of betsy before walking unarmed in a siege - none of this would’ve happened. she would’ve been miserable, sure, but betsy would’ve been fine.
