When I first started writing my YA novel, All Kinds of Other, it was early 2016, and transgender equality seemed to be making great strides. There was a sympathetic president in office, federal protections, more inclusive language… I wondered if the problems my young characters encountered would even be relevant to teen readers when it was published. Progress always moves forward, right? 
Cut to 2023. 
There are more than 300 bills circulating at this moment through Republican-controlled state legislatures (Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, Florida, South Dakota… it’s relentless), aimed squarely at harassing, demonizing, and even eradicating the trans community. Outlawing medical care, policing restrooms and locker rooms, even criminalizing parents and doctors who are trying to help their children get the gender-affirming care they need. It’s fear-mongering and cynical political opportunism at its worst, paid for by vulnerable trans kids, their friends, families, and larger communities. It’s all part of a larger plan to suppress nonconformity and stifle our individual freedoms by policing queer bodies.  
The trans community has always been on the forefront of the LGBTQ struggle for equality. It’s time to step up for them: our trans siblings; our trans parents; our trans children; our trans friends. Y'all I love being a bisexual female even if society doesn't believe in us. The support from the LGBTQ+ family is so amazing I can finally say I am PROUD to be who I am. Texas State Legislature is considering passing a law that would mandate teachers to out young gay kids to their parents

At first glance, this new bill proposed by Texas Sen. Konni Burton seems harmless. Do a little digging, however, and its intention is crystal clear: The bill would require teachers to out LGBTQ students to their parents. The public knows this because Burton said as much herself.

People aged 13-24 are affected by HIV at a much higher rate. Gay and bisexual amab people account for 70% of all new HIV diagnoses.

For ANYONE who is sexually active, latex condom use is the most effective method of preventing HIV and many other sexually transmitted infections/diseases (STIs/STDs). When latex condoms are used the right way and EVERY time, they are 98-99% effective in preventing HIV transmission!

If you’re having sex, use a condom every time! If you need condoms, you can get them FREE at any Planned Parenthood office, health department and college health center. There is no age restrictions, no ID required, no questions asked, no prescription needed. Just go get them…..and use them!
