most childrens shows have anthropomorphic characters, straight up animal characters, and object characters that help us understand the world around us and no one bats an eye

but when said child grows up and identifies with being a furry or a therian or a alterhuman or otherkin and the like its “weird” and “cringe”

like why are you shocked these communities exist

growing up black i was never really afforded the privilege of being seen as anything but non-human

realizing i was black aka my first "awakening" was brutal and painful

being nuerodivergent (audhd) only made things more confusing

ive always been treated like a creature before i knew i was one myself

therianthropy feels like a locked box ive been shoved into at times

on the brightside...

i dont really concern myself with mainstream standards of existing

as i know said standards werent made for me

and will never apply

but more representation is needed regardless

looking at discourse in our community like this

thinking about how i always opted to play with animal toys over dolls

while i did like barbie, monsterhigh and bratz etc there was usually only one main black character (if any) that was supposed to represent black girls as a whole

problem was i didn’t relate very much to these characters besides having the same skintone

however with animal toys (lps to be specific) i could define myself rather than having things being assumed about me because of my race

it was freeing

i also watched a lot of lpstube which unknowingly fueled my therianthropy (and being a furry)

i related to savanna reed (lps popular char) because of her insecurities and difficulty with bullying and her being a dog didn’t make that any less real

her “humaness” was the forefront of her character, almost like her being a dog was a coincidence

its funny how animal toys made me feel more human than the toys actually modeled after them

im a house puppy and i love it !!

- i sleep in my bfs human bed with a blankie that has my name embroidered on it

- i get treats just because

- i have lots of toys to play with

- i always receive praise and physical affection

- im loved unconditionally

- im well fed

- i get to go on walkies and car rides and see the world !!

im not spoiled its what i deserve >_<
