Taking It All In

It's been a while since I've written. Trying to put all the swirlings into some kind of cohesive thought and expression. Lots happening and rattline around my cranium.

As I look back over the past month or so, so much has happened. Fall is such a time of transitioning, of new starts and new beginnings. It’s a season of “lasts” for us as my oldest is a senior and will be transitioning to college next year. We’ve dealt with injuries, accidents, new jobs, and so much more. looking at chronic pain/illness scales i always get a little stumped on "it stops me from doing work/daily activities" as a descriptor because what if i'm just a wimp who cant handle a 2 yknow. what if i'm just a baby who doesnt know true pain.

olympics coming up…… athlete aus on the mind….. satoru as a swimmer….. unreasonably large wingspan…. huge hands..... thinks “official” competitions and tournaments are boring because he can’t use the goofy purple googly eyes goggles he likes to practice in…… practices at ungodly hours solely because he likes when the pool is empty because that means you’ll dip your feet in at the edge and be there to greet him with a kiss when he’s finished his laps….. they bring up the stats board and it’s just his name ten times before the next fastest person and he could still lap them, and even tho he’ll always put so much pressure on himself to be the best, it’s worth it to have you hold his face and tell him you’re proud of him... he’s gotten so much merch from events and sponsorships and he used to think they just created clutter but that all changes when you start to wear his clothes (esp the ones with his name on it… he’s not proud to admit that does Something to him)…. always looks up to the stands when he finishes a race and if he knows you’re not there, he looks right at the camera, draws an infinity sign with his fingers, and blows a kiss (which, some commentators routinely call “unsportsmanlike conduct” but he doesn’t care, and always, publicly says he’ll pay the fees if it means blowing a kiss to his girl at home)

Thinking again about how many disabled people end up getting shunted into art/craft work because like. You can technically do it. Sometimes. Yeah you make a pittance at best and are almost certainly going to make your physical health worse by pushing yourself to get things done, but what else are you gonna do? You're too sick for anyone to hire you. You're "not sick enough" to qualify for benefits. Just devote every scrap of time and energy you have to a chronically underpaid, low-prestige, incredibly labor-intensive industry. A few people manage to make it work with luck and help and the right skills. Many people don't. Everyone gets pressured to monetize their hobbies, but it's especially insidious if you're disabled because any tiny thing you manage to accomplish to bring yourself joy gets twisted into proof that you should somehow be able to work.

Make an effort to learn about your partner if you want to have kinky sex. Don’t expect them to dive into all the kinks you are interested in. It’s always the best thing to start off by having the most basic, vanilla sex. Learn about their boundaries, talk to them about yours. See what turns them on or what turns them off. If they are all talk on text or call but are shy in real life, then make them feel comfortable enough to get to that level with you, don’t force them out. The most important thing, learn to say no. It’s always good to try things out but if something makes you uncomfortable but your partner likes it, don’t just do it for them, it’s going to build resentment. I don’t think I should even mention this, but, consent!!! Even the non consensual kink has consent in it, so don’t just do something unexpected unless you have discussed it with them before. And yes, you can be completely naked, right under them and you CAN say no and not have sex if you are not up for it. If your partner doesn’t respect that, you need to get out of that situation. (It really is the most basic standard to have in a relationship but you will be surprised of how often it is disrespected)

hey how long after your broken leg were you walking? im 5 weeks into a broken leg and im starting to lose my mind a little at not being able to walk

you might have a better recover time than me, depending on your type of break? mine was a comminuted fracture, which take longer to heal (because your bone is totally fucked). but I can give my rough timeline:

Feb 28, leg broke

April 10, can put weight on leg, walking with cast on

May 1, walking without cast indoors (though still wearing the cast outdoors)

May 8, able to walk outdoors without cast

June 28, able to walk for long periods without limping

August (still to come!) able to go back to weight lifting as a hobby

still thinking about gaz doing ghost’s skincare

even when they’re on base and the worst of the all-encompassing exhaustion is held at bay, he knows ghost doesn’t have the energy to spare to do any kind of in depth routine; knows as much as it makes him feel good to feel soft and clean and cared for, he won’t be able to keep up with it by himself

gaz just didn't expect how good it would feel to do it for him

how accomplished he'd feel when he figured out the right combination of products to soothe ghost's sensitive neglected skin without him breaking out or getting even more dehydrated, the best moisturiser for his scars, researching no-wash products so he doesn't have to get up once they've started; all ghost has to do is lay back and let gaz work

it's an honour, not only to be trusted enough with ghost's - with simon's - face but also to watch him lose every ounce of tension in his body

they usually - and how amazing that they have a usual, that this has become a routine - end up with ghost's head in his lap, a soft pillow beneath his head so he can just rest. it's not uncommon for him to fall asleep entirely as gaz follows his steps

bottles of cleansers and serums and moisturisers all bought just for him, each one dutifully researched with ghost's skin type in mind, all stored in a black leather bag moulded into a skull bc gaz found it browsing one day and thought it was too perfect. ghost doesn't even know what they all do, just knows how blissful it is to feel the gentle pressure of gaz's fingers massaging his face; following the contours of scars that haven't pulled or flared since they started doing this

gaz never tells him about the rollers he could use instead, the applicators that are technically better for his skin bc it would mean he'd know that gaz uses his hands just for him; that he can feel how much he craves his touch and knows he enjoys it just as much, if not more than the actual results

gaz just tells him that a thorough massage after everything is applied is necessary for all the products to marry up and sink properly into his skin and spends the next half hour smiling down at his superior as he lets go of all his pain and trusts him to keep him afloat
