Last Line Tag
thanks @winterandwords for tagging me! I haven't done much writing yet this week - I can give you the last line from the new first chapter of QBOB, which I finished up last week!
Besides, he thought to himself as he started to pack up his camp. One school semester won’t hurt.
Sorry it's a small excerpt, I don't want to give too much away rn. I'll also need to update the WIP intro too lol, but I think I'll wait until I'm secure with all my edits.
I tag @aninkwellofnectar , @kelefox and @cottonberryfinn . :3 no pressure ofc.

I wrote 863 words tonight! Met my word count for the day and even went a little over! Not only that, but I’m finally getting to a scene that I’ve been anticipating for a while, so hopefully the writing continues to get smoother from here.
Here’s a little snippet I particularly liked from this writing session!
“Alright, the car’s name is Rhino. Again, not sure why we’re naming it, but whatever. Rest well everybody, we’re on the road all day tomorrow, and I’d rather us be on the alert until we get to the elves.” Not feeling the need to recap the plans for tomorrow, Spencer headed towards the cabinet to retrieve his sleeping bag and set up camp. Cyrus nudged Skylar’s side with his elbow and said,
“Aw, bummer about the Hercules beetle name. I did really like that one.”
“Yeah, well, Rhino was pretty cute.”
“I’m glad you recognize the best quality of my chosen name.” Samuel said, leaning into their conversation. “There’s two principles to stick to when you name things. One - the main physical appearance of the thing. Two - what that physical appearance reminds you of. Somehow, the more generic the outcome is, the cuter the name is.”
“I don’t think that’s how that works.” Skylar scoffed, amused by Samuel’s tip. “But I do still appreciate the name nonetheless.”
“Ah, it’s really whatever. Your’s was really good too. Although, The Rolling Beatles was a little flat.”
“I thought that one was good too, personally.” Rhys piped up, breaking away from his conversation with Lydia to poke his head into the conversation.
“That’s because you love cheesy jokes, you dork.” Samuel snorted, pushing Rhys’ shoulder to make him lay flat on the floor.
“True. That’s why I voted for it in the first round.” Rhys laughed. Skylar joined him.
“Oh god. I’m glad you thought it was funny, although obviously it was terrible. That’s part of why I thought up Hercules last second. I’m not the comedian around here.”
“Yeah, I would say cheesy clown comedy is not your style for sure, but you could always do something different. We’ll make a comedian out of you yet.” Rhys replied, smiling at Skylar as he lay upside down on the floor. He shortly sat up though, and resumed his conversation with Lydia about what school was like before the academy.

Wrote 907 words today! Made up a bit for not writing yesterday for sure. Still not quite on track with the Nano - projected goal, but I still feel incredibly accomplished and that things are flowing smoother. Why is the in-between stuff always so hard?
Anyway, here’s an excerpt of my favorite interaction I wrote today.
“Thanks Spencer.” Skylar said, sighing again as relief finally spread through her chest. Doing something was always better than nothing in her mind, and she wanted to be able to contribute in some way, no matter how small.
“Anytime.” Spencer replied, turning back to his soup with gusto. They sat in comfortable silence for a moment, both eating their soup and listening to the stories their friends told. After finishing her soup, Skylar put her bowl down next to her and leaned back on the palms of her hands.
“So what’s the score?” She asked, giving Spencer a teasing nudge with her shoulder. Spencer gave a snort that sounded like a stifled laugh, and Skylar felt that same friendly warmth that told her she was doing a good job as a friend.
“Cyrus and Samuel need to give me their votes still, but I told everyone I wouldn’t chase them to get the votes. At any case I’ll probably announce the score once we start settling down to sleep.”
“Boo, no hints for who’s in the lead?” She laughed.
“So far it’s pretty split between three names. We’ll probably have to do a quick revote for the top two contenders.”
“Alright well, something to look forward to I guess.”

25 for the ask game if you wouldn't mind!
Hiya again! Thank you so much for sending asks! (I'll be sending some your way shortly :3)
I have so many excerpts I really like, but this one was super cute (and only about 2-3 chapters ago XD)

Finally! 1,679 words today! It feels so nice to be able to work on that fight scene today, and would you believe it only took me about an hour to write? Shows me how awesome it is to write while ignoring my class XD (I do not plan on making this a habit, but it’s still really nice to get this far, especially since this month has been super hit or miss for me). Enjoy a small excerpt! It will most likely need a lot of work since I was just word spewing, but here’s my favorite part so far.
“Do you get the creeps from the guy at the counter?”
“I get the creeps from any strange, large, intimidating man at a gas station, if that answers your question.” She whispered back.
“Fair enough.” Spencer made a conscious effort not to look behind him at the man, but sooner or later they had to face him at the counter. Once Victoria had filled her bag with enough roadside snacks to last them for a week, she and Spencer approached the counter. Cyrus and Amelia were still gathering drinks, and Spencer made a comment about paying for them later. An anxious feeling settled in his stomach as they finally reached the checkout counter, the large clerk frowning at them.
Only a small snippet today because otherwise I feel I’d be giving too much away/this post would end up very long. Thank you all for your continued support, and hopefully I’ll get to make more progress soon!

Revisited Chapter 17 for QBOB for the first time since Camp Nano July today, and I wrote 1,015 words for the chapter! Things are getting grim and we’re really building up to the final fight with Linala/the end of the first book! Here’s a segment that I felt worked really well.
“There have been reports, Elder, of a young woman appearing around our camp. It may be the same sorcerous, and she may very well be linked to the disappearances.”
“D - Disappearances?” Spencer stammered, the pit of dread making his stomach drop. He felt a slight chill in his bones as Scribetree’s accusatory eyes bore into him.
“Yes, our village has experienced a startling amount of disappearances, previously unexplainable. Until your party showed up, that is.”
Lots of bad things going on for sure!

Got to write in another scene before I added another jumpcut/asterisk thing, but it’s only 435 words. I will admit, work has been pretty busy tonight, and after getting that scene done I feel I need a break. I’ll re-update if I end up adding more words tonight, but until then, here’s a short excerpt. At the end of the day, at least I wrote a little!
“Okay, so back to spells - I think you’ll need a Short Burst, Beam of Light, and Firecracker as starting offensive spells, and if you do well with those we can maybe try some more. For defensive spells, I’d definitely recommend Warrior’s Shield and Protective Bubble. Protective Bubble should be a last resort if all of us are in mortal danger, but it’s also handy if we need to heal and regroup. Warrior’s shield is just for you.” As he spoke, Spencer flipped through the battered spell primer and dog-eared each spell he talked about for easy reference before handing the book to Skylar. She immediately reopened it and began flipping through the pages.
“Thanks again for your help. Can I suggest other spells to practice too?”
“I mean, if you run them by me I can tell you if they’re in your skill range. I really don’t want your magic to backfire on you and hurt you, since you’re still a novice. But I’m not gonna prohibit you from reading about other spells or whatever.”
“Cool, thanks.” Skylar said. She was a little absent minded, as she had already started reading about the Beam of Light spell, becoming engrossed in her studies. Spencer laughed to himself a little as he watched her become focused on the book, but also felt an ache of familiarity as Skylar’s hair fell across her face, shielding her and the book from clear view. As he tried to shake his head to clear the distant memories, he occupied himself with his own guidebook, becoming lost in thought as Rhino finally shifted into gear and began trundling its way towards the city of the elves.

Out of context!
I don’t know how but I missed this from @sleepyowlwrites . Thank you for tagging me!
Rhys stood up and swiveled around to see Madame Crowe glaring at him, arms crossed and clicky toes tapping.
“Mr. Odell, we meet again. Pray tell, why did Sir Pompfrey the First’s armor just happen to fall on top of you?”
“I...I tripped.”He mumbled, his face flushing.
“I’m sorry, what?”
“I tripped. It was an accident.” He glanced at Lydia from the corner of his eye, watching her nod in affirmation.
“Well, be that the case, perhaps you should be more careful. Agility is a necessary skill in the Questing world. Perhaps next time you should refrain from dancing in the halls, and right Sir Pompfrey to his rightful place.” As she walked away, her heels tapping, Lydia whispered,
“I’m not sure if I like her so much.”
Thank you again! I would love to tag @the-writing-avocado @adie-dee @dgwriteblr @fleetingfictions @rhikasa @aye-write @vivian-is-writing @radiomacbeth if they’re interested in participating!

❤️ and ☀️ for the ask game please!
Thank you so much for the ask! It was fun to try and find a good figurative language sentence especially! I knew I used figurative language, but it’s actually hard to pinpoint while skimming my own work. All excerpts are from the Quest for the Book of Balance!
Heart: Share one of your favorite lines.
“You’ll need these.” She had said. Victoria had looked up at her, confused, but took them anyways. She examined them carefully, her perplexed expression staring back at her in the reflection of the blue blades. She had turned her gaze back to Mrs. Leafblade, who said,
“They were made for you.”
Sun: Share a line with figurative language.
It looked similar to a gargoyle come to life, but not quite.
That last one is shorter cause the paragraph it’s in still needs some editing. I’m really excited for Camp Nanowrimo in April so I can finish the book and start the editing process! Thanks again for the ask!

1,485 words tonight! Feeling really good about this. I haven’t gotten to the fight scene yet, but I’m closer. Plus, before I ended for tonight I jotted down the rest of my ideas I came up with for this particular scene, so hopefully I don’t lose the general feeling I want from the scene when I try to write afresh tomorrow. I did a little more bonding too, and it all felt pretty natural which was also great. Also, side note, all I’ve been listening to lately is the entirety of Trixie Mattel’s discography, and I’ve had my playlist of all her songs on loop. It’s been a great writing night, and I hope it’s just as good tomorrow. Anyway, here’s a new excerpt!
Everyone meandered outside into the cool, grassy shade. It was a beautiful day, and the fresh air would have done anybody good. As everyone stretched and chattered easily among themselves, Spencer took a bit of time to check in with Skylar.
“You’re good not going to the store?”
“Oh yeah, I want to practice these spells! I figured we’re covered enough and there’s enough of us still here to watch my back. Plus I think Rhys and Lydia are gonna practice their archery too.”
“Oh! Well that’s really great. Not sure why I’m so surprised I guess. I’m just glad to see you guys making good use of the time.” Spencer said, giving Skylar one of his increasingly common half-smiles. She smiled back at him and laughed a little.
“Yeah man. We’re trying our best to be all in. Don’t sweat it.”
“Alright, well no fire from either of you. I don’t want you to burn anything down.”
“We’ll try not to, but no promises.” Skylar teased, and Spencer gave her a hesitant squeeze on the shoulder before heading over to talk to Victoria, who was rummaging through her backpack. He shoved his hands in his jeans pockets, approaching her slowly so he didn’t startle her.
My man Spencer is learning how to be a socialized person again, bless his heart. He’s trying his best.
