Silence by @airplanned is a lovely introspective fic where Zelda and Link have both been banished to the temple of time and begin an awkward friendship there under a vow of silence. I really loved the the worldbuilding around the religion and the description of daily life of the abbey. It is gentle and beautiful and I could rant about Zelda and Link's relationship in this story for ages. I'm so thrilled I have a copy for my physical collection now.

The beautiful art on the cover is done by @aquaticpal and perfectly illustrates the moonlight kiss from chapter two. Thank you so much for once again for giving me permission to use your art for this one-off personal edition!

My maths was slightly off as can clearly be seen on the cover, the border decorations do not go far enough over, which is annoying but not annoying enough for me to redo the whole cover. I am a recovering perfectionist and trying to practice the belief that done is better than perfect. I normally prefer more colours on my printed covers but this really suited the tone of the story.

Casing is never my friend and I will learn to live with it. I think I am actively getting worse at this point but that will not stop me making books!

Huge thanks to @airplanned for giving me permission to bind this fic and to edit my copy to be an edition that uses UK spelling!

Another classic fic, this time for Teen Wolf.  Stiles & his father are taken hostage while on a bus trip.  The Sheriff is rather non-plussed by his son’s “just another Tuesday” reaction to danger, and Stiles is distracted trying to figure out how to get word out to the rest of the pack.  Quite amusing in spite of all the peril.

My typesets are fairly plain so one-shots, even long one-shots, come together relatively quickly without chapter headers to worry about.  The most time consuming part is correcting all the quotation marks and apostrophes to the curly versions.  Choosing a fun font is usually as fancy as I get (WolfredNelson in this case).

Still had a lot of fun for as simple as the bind is.  The cover had to be red, given Stiles’ moniker, but the yellow spine added some excitement.  And there are some really subtle flowers in the cover paper for a little added bonus.

My first completed ficbind!

I wanted to do something on the smaller side and I am really glad I did. Overall I think this came out alright for my very first attempt but I did learn a lot through this process and will do even better next time!

I bound Police Dog by surveycorpsjean which is a Kyoutani Kentaro/Yahaba Shigeru dog shifter fic. It won't be everyone's cup of tea due to the cop au and shifter tag but I love this story so much!

The newest quarto binding, featuring my first hand-wound headbands - the four finished stories in the watchmen Carrefour AU. Cover design meant to evoke the idea of crossroads, along with marigolds, which were an important image in the story. I wrote these collectively with Daylilymoon back in the day, and it's one of my fondest memories. Daylily if you are still around, please reach out to me, I'd love to make you a copy too--and I won't even fuck up the spelling on the spine, for your version DX

Text is Sylfean, Trajan Pro for the titles and drop caps, Caslon Antique for the cover text. Chapter header graphic and back cover version of the Kalfu veve by me. The text block was printed on some rustic, thick grain paper that I bought ages ago at Meiningers and I have no idea what the brand was, but it seemed appropriate for an 1800s era story. Cover and endpapers are art paper also from the art store. Siser metal HTV as usual.

I cannot believe I misspelled the spine, aughhhhhhhhh

This story is sweet and haunting and cathartic and so many moments have stayed with me since I first read it. It was a joy to typeset and bind <3 Even when the HTV fought me and had to be applied twice.

Book No. 13

A tête-bêche quarto of two Hannibal fics by emungere, bound for @springkitten, which were exactly the right length to make this a satisfyingly chunky little book to hold.

I have to confess I'm only passing familiar with Hannibal, so I had to take a wild stab at the vibes (as Hannibal does at people, perhaps?), but they assure me that these were acceptable.

This was my first time typesetting from start to finish in Affinity Publisher, and I'm now at that stage where it's not so frustrating to use that I can't appreciate how powerful a tool it is, which is great.

I also trialled a new method of hot foiling, using a handheld foil pen with a plotter-cut vinyl stencil. I'm really pleased with the results here, which is largely due to the faux-leather bookcloth (also a first for me). It took the foiling beautifully, as well as taking creases nicely and generally being very fun to work with.

practical anatomy is an amazing little fanfiction which I absolutely adore by @honestground. I had to include a wee video of me trying to capture the iridescent vinyl as the sun was having none of my plans this am.

I actually typeset and planned to bind this one (amongst others) last year and then for boring health reasons had to set it aside, which is why the title page says 2024, BUT now she is done and I love her.

True to form casing was a nightmare and I need to practise more to actually get better at this so don't look too close at the endpapers please.

I didn't melt the vinyl this time and I think I may have cracked that code which is thrilling! I love how the Sheikah Slate came out as it plays an integral role in this story. iykyk.

5th book of Binderary

This is a Horatio Hornblower story with a really interesting magic system and some unconventional world building.  Since it was an Age of Sail setting it was the perfect excuse to use some fun materials.  I used mystery paper from the local creative reuse store for the textblock and untrimmed edges for a rustic look.  The cover is a bit of printed marble paper I’ve been hoarding for "something good" for 10+ years.  I’m not sure why I thought the gold HTV would have enough contrast with the brown bookcloth for the spine title, but it is readable from certain angles.

Garamond for the body since it’s a historic font, and IM Fell for the titles since it looks aged, plus a cursive font I can't recall.  The margins are a bit wide since I originally planned to trim the edges, but they give it rather luxurious proportions (plenty of room for marginalia and rebinding if it was a period book).  I couldn’t decide between two mock-ups for the title page, so included both - a super simple one for the regular title and over-the-top following the introduction.

This is another incredible Wat/Geoff story by catwalksalone and I really cannot get over the humor and love and humanity baked into every word. You didn't know you needed to read about two kids growing up and falling in love and being messy but trying so so hard - but you DO!!!

In keeping with the themes of the story I went for a very posh outside and somewhat clashing endpapers (hand-marbled by me) inside; the riot of color in the marbling made me think of Wat. And as a nod to a bit of recurring imagery throughout the fic - geese in flight on the back cover.

This was my first attempt at putting HTV on laval bookcloth, which has a velvet-like texture. It went all right, though with a bit more adhesive bleeding and warping than with regular cloth. I realized too late that in my worry about heat damage, the spine lettering is off-center. And I should not have done all those tiny dots on the front cover!!!! But again I will chock it up to Thematic Resonance and say that nobody's perfect and that's okay :)

Absolutely go read To Trip is Just to Fall and lose yourself in a coming-of-age story with an enormous amount of heart.
