2000 posts!
Today, I have reached 2,000 posts on Tumblr… a huge number, but not an achievement—rather, a reflection of my pain and helplessness. Every post I wrote was a cry for help, a plea for support, yet they remained just words waiting to be heard.
Please, do not leave me alone in this darkness. Don't let my cries fade into nothingness. I need you now more than ever

@yetrop has created this SPECTACULAR illustration for Chapter 3
Tumblr media
The LIGHTING? The POSES? I can FEEL the embarrassment! This is so gorgeous.
WE ARE STILL LOOKING FOR ARTISTS TO COLLABORATE!!
For more info, you can click here to see the original call out post.
Tumblr media
The scene behind @yetrop's delicious artwork is under the cut:
He made it to the restaurant, a classy, hand-painted sign informing him that it was called ‘the Sable Nouveau’. Subscript under the building’s front-facing decal added that the place was ‘an innovative accomplishment of the notorious Dr Raven Sable’ whatever that meant. It was a looming glass structure, a postmodern parapet framing the building in black. The architecture combined brutalist form with glossy contemporary stylings. Beautiful but cold and uncomfortable. Aziraphale didn’t like it at all. It would be the kind of thing he’d point out to Crowley, tutting and shaking his head. Crowley would only grin and excuse the design as minimalist. But secretly, he’d agree; Crowley liked eco-brutalism, not brutalism-brutalism.
That was enough thinking about Crowley! Aziraphale was here to get over that whole predicament. It wouldn’t do to dwell on the one thought that he was trying to escape from.
“Table for Muscas?” he asked the critical woman at the front desk. She appraised him briefly before nodding and leading him to a corner booth. His date was already there, it seemed. Aziraphale took a moment to inspect him from behind; he was slim, in a black suit-type-thing, a waterfall of red hair—oh. Oh no. Oh, no no no. This was the worst outcome; so bad he hadn’t even dignified it as one of the options. Crowley was here. Crowley was his blind date. Crowley was B’s friend. B’s friend who—he realised quite suddenly—was trying to get over someone. Who?! When? Why? And why had he never mentioned anything to Aziraphale? And—even more importantly—who? No, really, who?!
“Uh—” came the dissonant sound from Aziraphale’s throat. Having alerted Crowley to his presence, he sat down opposite him. Bashful, but stiff upper lip and all that.
“Ngk—Beelzebub!” Crowley groaned—and that’s what the B stood for!—putting his head in his hands. Aziraphale pitied him; it wasn’t a fun situation, accidentally being set up on a blind date with your co-author. He would know. He was currently having the exact same experience.
“I’m guessing you’re B’s friend, then,” Aziraphale grimaced sympathetically. This didn’t have to be awkward; they were pals. They could endure a platonic dinner together without making anything weird. It wasn’t that far off from what they usually did.
“And you’re Gabriel’s brother.” The words were disappointed.
Crowley’s eyes had a panicked sheen; he looked almost trapped. In the corner booth of a classy restaurant, he rather made the image of a frightened dog pressing themselves to the back of the cage at the pound. Knowing what he knew, Aziraphale was commiserative. Crowley had come here to get over someone—‘Who, though?’ his mind roared, he ignored it—and instead of a suave first-date ready to beguile him beyond the thought of whoever-it-was, there was only Aziraphale, his frumpish co-author, to greet him. Aziraphale would be disappointed too.
“Well, this is suitably awkward,” he sighed regretfully.
“It was my fault for trusting Beez after a fight. I forget how spiteful they are, sometimes. I’m sorry, Angel. They were being mean. Beez is still under the impression I have the same romantic tastes that I did at seventeen. You—uh—don’t really fall into that category,” Crowley explained apologetically, looking rather defeated. Aziraphale almost flinched at the admission. It was a stinging blow, to have the very notion that he might have—at some point—been Crowley’s type so utterly decimated.
“I wouldn’t assume so, no,” he winced with a self-deprecating wilt. Crowley’s eyes widened as he played back the implications of what he had said, hissing at himself despairingly.
“Not to say that you aren’t—I mean, now it’s… Well, not to say that you are either—” He tied himself into verbal knots, flustered and consoling in equal measure.
“You don’t have to spare my feelings, dear. We’d look an odd couple, if we were together. You in all your leather and me in all my hand-knit sweaters. Odd socks, the two of us.” Aziraphale regarded him with a kind smile, picking up the menu and bemoaning its contents. Never trust Gabriel to pick out a sensible—or even edible—restaurant.
“Odd socks,” repeated Crowley, hoarse.
Aziraphale hummed noncommittally, continuing to search the menu for something palatable; anything that wasn’t a new-age reduction, or an experimental reimagining, or whatever other sacrilegious culinary blasphemy was going on behind the kitchen walls of the Sable Nouveau. Even a humble grilled cheese would have sufficed. But no, the arrogance of fine dining didn’t allow space for something so simple.
“What are you having?” Aziraphale asked, hoping that Crowley had found some hidden gem.
“Dunno, it’s all rather—” Crowley gestured vaguely. Aziraphale agreed.
“It is, isn’t it? Would it be too terribly rude if we—” he gestured vaguely in return, unwilling to voice the sentiment without the full support of his dining partner. Crowley raised his eyebrows, his first grin of the night like the sun at dawn.
“What? Ignored the fancy reservation and instead went to the tapas place across the road from my apartment?” He was snickering, leaning in conspiratorially. Aziraphale’s answering nose scrunch (Aziraphale could communicate a lot with a nose scrunch; for instance, right now his nose scrunch was saying ‘it sounds bad when you put it like that but yes, that’s exactly what I want’) made him snort gracelessly.
“Is it rude?” he pondered to himself, “Undoubtedly.”
“Would it be more enjoyable than eating—” he scoured the menu for something suitably ridiculous, “—‘de jaeger with fermented durian foam’ in a building that looks like it was designed as a prison set for a Dr Who villain?” Pausing just long enough to let the description sink in, Crowley pretended to consider it.
“I think it would be, yeah,” he finished, standing up from his seat and inviting Aziraphale to do the same. Gabriel would understand. They’d never agreed on culinary decisions as kids, either.
Together, they exited the Sable Nouveau, much to the disgruntlement of their server; a sententious little man with a pencil-thin moustache and the permanent expression of someone who had just whiffed a jar of rotten eggs. (Considering the menu, it wasn't out of the question.) He had been trying to find a polite interlude—staff at the Sable Nouveau knew better than to interrupt an awkward moment—in which he could ask for their orders and or offer them a bottle of wine. Six paces from their table—as was his training; close enough to attend, far enough to slink into the background—he watched them scutter away. If he was disappointed, he didn’t show it. Or maybe it just blended seamlessly into his general air of disapproval, unnoticed like salt-water in the ocean.

I find there's something incredibly, heart-wrenchingly sweet about the possibility that Crowley didn't remember Aziraphale when he saw him in the Garden of Eden but went to him anyway. About the thought that maybe somewhere inside of him, deep enough not to be reached by Heaven's divine amnesia, there survived something that did remember him, the same way Gabriel still remembered his and Beez's song when everything else, including his own name, was gone.
That maybe Crowley the demon saw the Guardian of the East Gate, technically the enemy, but that a little voice inside of him told him, go to him, talk to him, he's safe, you can trust him, and that he chose to believe that voice, and approached the angel following that mysterious feeling of warmth and familiarity.
That maybe the rain and the angelic wing stretched above him in protection triggered the memory of another meeting, of the dazzling lights and colors of a newborn nebula, and of his own wing - white this time, not black like a raven's - shielding the angel now standing beside him from a meteor shower.
Maybe he wondered, then, at the reciprocity of the act, at how natural, instinctual it was for them to protect each other.
Who knows if they ever talked about it. If Aziraphale ever asked, why did you act so weird when we met on the walls of Eden? Were you just pretending, or did you really not remember we'd met before? Did Crowley ever tell Aziraphale, I couldn't remember you at first, but then it all came back to me? And it angers me to remember Heaven, to remember the Fall and the injustice of it all, my broken innocence and my betrayed trust. It burns, it makes me so furious - but I remember you now, and your worrying about me, and you standing by my side even back then, before the Beginning, surrounded by the colours and joyful shouts of a nebula being brought into being, and those are the only memories of Heaven I hold onto, the only ones that are precious to me, nothing else.
But no, they won't have talked about it.
Because they never talk.
Not about things that matter.
And there are silences in their relationship deep enough to drown the roaring of the engines of Creation themselves.
(Great. Now I made myself sad about them. Again)

Top 5 Wednesday: Authors we look up to for inspiration!
Tumblr media
As hardcore bookworms we always come across great books. But how often is it that we come across many books by the same author that are equally amazing? And the authors also tend to be super cool people? The answer (for us at least) is “rarely” but that doesn’t mean there aren’t enough to be put into a top 5 category.
So here’s our list of authors we look up to. Because if we can write stories…

Spider’s Web: A play by Agatha Christie, novelized by Charles Osborne
Tumblr media
If you’re like me a.k.a you’ve hardly read many Agatha Christie novels then it might come as a surprise to you that she used to write plays… and romance novels under a pseudonym, but I’m not interested in that.
Alibiwas the first play to reach the stage. It was an adaptation of The Murder of Roger Ackroyd but it wasn’t written by her and she didn’t like it either. The first play that was written…

For those of you who missed it, The Mundane Teenage Life recently hit 200 Followers (still not over it, can’t stop grinning!) Last week I did a post thanking all you lovely readers for all the love and support and promised a Q and A! You can check out my previous post here. I honestly wasn’t sure if I’d get a lot of questions but I got so many great ones.
So here are the answers to your questions!
From Ally@AllyWritesThings (P.S. I said I’d highlight my favorite Questions – and here they are! I loved answering all of her questions so much)
If you could use ONE spell from the Harry Potter world, which would it be? I’d use the spell to Apparate! I’d go back home whenever I’d want to using Apparition ❤
If you could be a book character for a day, who would you be? Hermione Granger on Yule Ball day because –
I’d be amazing at casting spells
Date Krum
Look fantabulous at the Ball
Which book do you want to rewrite? Divergent by Veronica Roth. I felt like the story could’ve actually turned out great but somehow by the ending I really wished it was written differently.
If you could reread a book for the first time, which would it be? Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. I was completely blown away by the twist and turns in the first book and it would be amazing to live through that all over again.
Which book/series do you think would make a good miniseries, BBC Sherlock style? I really don’t know. Most books turned shows don’t turn out too great. Maybe if I had to pick one I’d like to see the Martian by Andy Weir turned into a mini series.
From Hadeer@HadeerWrites
What five destinations would you travel to if you had an unlimited budget? Wait if its an unlimited budget can I select the Moon?! Nah I think I’ll stick to Earth
Paris – Because I really want a good croissant at the moment
Switzerland – Because I want to try skiing!
Hong Kong – Because I’m still a child at heart and want to see Disneyland
Las Vegas – Because what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas
Venice – For the canals ❤
From TheCursedBooks
What is your advice for new book bloggers? I guess my main advice would be only get into book blogging if you truly enjoy it! There’s not a lot of money to make (as far as I have seen) but you can make some great friends and learn so much if you’re ready to have fun with it.
From BludgersAndBroomsticks
If you could change your name, what would you change it into? Since my real name isn’t Vikki, I guess I’d love to change it to Vikki. Or maybe Vanessa.
Which fictional character would you choose during a zombie apocalypse?
To be or to have as a partner? I’d probably go with Cassie Sullivan in The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey because she clearly does well in post-apocalyptic situation.
Which planet would you like to rehabilitate on? Fictional – Gallifrey from Doctor Who Real – Saturn (because I’m fascinated by the rings)
From Twin Tales
Which books remind you of each season? Summer – To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han Autumn – Switched by Amanda Hocking Winter – The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis Spring
If you could be born at any time, past, present or future, when would it be and why? While I do like the present, I think I’d like to be born in the future. This is purely because I’m selfish and there is so much that hasn’t been invented in the past and so many books that haven’t been written yet!
What book made you cry the most?
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. I don’t really cry much when I read, I just die a little internally. But I read TFIOS pretty early on, before it became popular and I hadn’t read the synopsis so that book was a turmoil of emotions for me.
From Raven and Beez
What’s one superpower you’d want and why? Stealing a little bit from my answer to the first question, I’d like the ability to teleport! I really would love to be able to spend all my time with my family so I wish I could teleport back home every single day.
  From The Wild Man
If you could swap blogs with anyone, who would it be and why? I can’t think of anyone really. I mean there are so many blogs that I absolutely adore and would wish to learn from their creators but at the end of the day, I put so much work into mine that I’d never want to give it up to anyone else.
What is your favorite sweet or chocolate? Among chocolates, I really like Toblerone Bars and Hershey Kisses ❤ But really all chocolate, because chocolate is life!
If you could be any teacher in Harry Potter which one would it be and why? As for which teacher I’d like to be like McGonagall. But the subject I’d like to teach would be Defense Against the Dark Arts (when its not cursed that is).
And that’s all for today! Thank you so much to all of you for the questions, and for the rest, thanks a ton for following me! You guys are wonderful and I simply cannot thank you enough for all the love and support I’ve gotten through blogging!
Hope you have a great day! Until next time –

Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon [Kind of cute but over-rated]
Tumblr media
Do you ever feel that sometimes you just have a fall out with a book? This is what it was like for me when I read Everything, Everything. No, I won’t be hate reviewing but I’d definitely like to discuss what parts made me feel that way.
The Plot: Madeline has SCID, Severe Combined Immunodeficiency. It means, EVERYTHING and ANYTHING could kill her out in the real world. Which is why her mother cocoons her and makes sure she never leaves the house.
Olly is the boy next door. Wearing all black, and being athletic, she knows she will fall in love with him sooner or later.
Tumblr media
The writing was easy. I pretty much finished the entire book within a couple of days. I breezed through it.
I really liked Olly. He was adorkable and cute and I could see why everyone who reads this book fawns over him. Even the actor who portrays him in the movie is pretty good looking.
There were many moments between Maddy and Olly that were sort of cute but I think we all know what it really was…
Tumblr media
As I was reading this book I thought that I had pretty much figured out how this book would end but then that plot twist hit me out of nowhere and suddenly the book got 10x more interesting and then BAM it was over.
Tumblr media
Madeline felt like every other contemporary fiction girl. I don’t know if it was because a majority of the books try really hard to make the male characters appealing and in the process, leave the female protag to just while away or if it’s something else that I’m not aware of.
Also, the characters don’t sound like teenagers?? I mean, I’ve had this issue ever since (you guessed it) I turned into not-a-teenager. Every teenager just sounds like a twenty someone. I mean when I was the age of Olly and Maddy I was a freaking baby. But of course, everyone grows at their own pace so I can’t really judge that.
The plot was basically a bunch of nothings happening until the very end! Which annoyed me so much.
I’m aware that I’m always let down by hyped young adult novels but this one left me defeated. There’s nothing that I greatly disliked about this one, just the general way it was executed. Which is why it makes obvious sense why some people would like it and some won’t.
“It’s not you, book, it’s me.”
Tumblr media
I am an Earth girl…
And so, because of being constantly disappointed by books like these, I’ve decided that I won’t be reading more contemporaries. Probably a couple in a year but not more because I feel like it really just drags me down. And then I just stare at my ceiling and wonder when I grew out of such books and then before you know it I’ve turned into freaking Gandalf.
However, I’ve already read The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon, so keep an eye out for that review.
Bipply boo! And with that we come to the end of my review. Let me know if you’ve read this book and do let me know what you thought about it down in the comments below. I always love hearing from you guys.
Lots of love and nonsensical words,
Raven

The second steampunk novel I’ve read this year and I was NOT disappointed.
The plot: In Robyn Bennis’ The Guns Above, Josette Dupre, our badass protagonist has been made the Corps’ first female airship captain, after she turned the tide against the enemy in a battle.
For Josette, it means a death sentence but a happy one because she finally gets to live her dreams as captain of an airship, but she is also aware of how far some would go to overthrow her. Like Lord Bernat, who was set up by his Uncle to find and record all the negatives of Josette, so that Bernat can get his money and the Uncle would get to see Josette fall.
Imagine our history, but with Steampunk. While it is a made up world, that’s what it reminded me of because of the sexism. And oh Lord! The sexism was so intense. I’m pretty sure that’s how bad it used to be in our world too, but the book treats it very lightly by using humour along with it but it also keeps coming back to the issue over and over again which made me doubt the real message behind the book.
And while the book is Steampunk, it has no magic in it. It reads very much like a military historical fiction with lots of witty banter.
The characters reminded me of the cast of Pirates of the Caribbean mainly because of their witty banter. But note that Josette and her crew are anything but pirates.
In the beginning, I didn’t enjoy the book as much and it took me a while to realize that it was because I wasn’t feeling that bond readers usually feel with characters. This was probably because of the epic airship battles, airship descriptions and airship repairs that constantly took place.
Yeah, there’s a LOT of airship info in this one, something that I enjoyed immensely. The airship battles had to be my favourite though. The suspense of an oncoming attack, the total chaos aboard the ship, the captain screaming orders, the small and major victories, just the way everything was written was beautiful. And once the friendship between Josette and Bernat grew, I was head over heels in love with the book.
And this book actually made me laugh out loud on multiple occasions, something that doesn’t happen often.
Here are a few excerpts:
#gallery-0-6 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-6 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-6 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-6 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
These are just a few of the many instances where the humour was just fabulous.
I would definitely recommend this book to Steampunk lovers, military fiction lovers and also people who just want an engaging and funny read.
Lots of love,
Raven

I don’t know about you guys but I never participated in games that would dare me in high school. I was a scaredy-pants. Probably still am. So this tags name makes me littly jittery. Just saying… The lovely Raven & Beez tagged me for this daring tag.  So let us jump right into the questions. ⌘⌘ 1. What Book has been on your shelves the longest? This will probably be my copy of Perfume: The Story…

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon [I’m surprised I haven’t burned my eyes after reading this book] DNF review
THIS BOOK! Where do I even begin with this book?
I started this book with @bookedbybliss (She is a really good friend of mine and you should totally check out her page!) We decided to read it together and I’m glad to say that she and I have the same thoughts regarding this book, because I was terrified of what would happen if I told her I hate this book and she said the opposite to me.
I had been seeing this book around bookstagram every now and then, the TV show is well loved and even though you all know I really dislike romance, I thought I might as well try it out. Maybe, this book would change my mind, you know?
But what it did do, was put me on a rocket ship and blast me off to a planet where romance books don’t exist.
Anyway, let’s get to what I liked and didn’t like and what finally made me DNF the book.
Tumblr media
But first, the plot: So the year is 1945, Claire Danvers, a former war nurse, is back with her husband. They are currently in Scotland on a second Honeymoon and her husband is here because he wants to figure out his lineage. Claire is just here to tag along.
Everything is cool until she gets thrown back in time and finds herself in 1743, Scotland. A time of war between the English and the Scots. She ends up meeting James Fraser, a Scottish warrior.
When I started this book, I had very little knowledge of what this book was about, but I like to keep my knowledge of unread books to a minimum so that there can be enough room for surprise and excitement.
So when I started this book, I found it a bit slow. It was basically just: Cool Scottish history, sex, lineage info, sex, war info, sex… you know how it goes. And the writing style took me a LONG time to get used to. Clearly, I wasn’t that impressed but I wanted to stick around for the Scottish history because you don’t see that very much in popular books.
When she finally got thrown back in time, I thought to myself, “Yes finally! Maybe now things might get interesting.” But boy oh boy was I wrong.
Things just got more sexist. I mean, that’s expected because she is way back in the past. But a part of me was hoping that her being there would change things somehow but she only became a part of it!
Firstly, she seemed totally okay with being back in time by 200 years. If it was me, I would have a panic attack but she just rolled with it.
Secondly, she completely forgot about her husband! I hate it when books portray backstabbing on your loved ones as something that’s okay if you love someone else (It’s NOT okay. EVER! Get a freaking divorce first?? Or breakup??) but this book just stepped up the game because hey, if your husband is not even born then you can do the frickity frackle with another guy right? After marrying him of course. Duh! Where’s the decency?
Tumblr media
Thirdly, after she got married to Fraser (with an ants worth of protest) they were just banging the shit out of each other. THAT WAS ALL THAT WAS HAPPENING! I thought this was a Historical romance fiction??? NOT erotica! Where was all the history??
Fourthly, throughout the entire 16 chapters that I read, she seemed to do EVERYTHING except go back in freaking time to her actual husband! If I was married to someone I loved and if I was thrown back in time and if I was told that I would have to marry some other guy (even if it was to save my ass) then I would freaking bolt. So not only did I have a major issue with her morals but I also hated this book because it was just bull crap through and through.
I was literally trying to find things that I liked in this book but it was almost non-existent. There were VERY FEW points where I liked the humour but meh for the rest of it. And I was SO disappointed that this book turned out this way because I genuinely wanted to know more Scottish History. It seems like such an interesting topic and I felt bad that it was involved in this book in such a way. And by that I mean, that it was barely there.
The thing that finally made me DNF this book at chapter 16 was the fact that the author took THREE BLOODY PAGES to describe Jamie catching a fish! A fish that just disappeared afterwards. Did they eat the fish? Nope. What happened to the fish?? It had no relevance whatsoever to the plot. I mean guys! They killed a fish for NOTHING AND I HAD TO READ SO MUCH ABOUT IT!
Tumblr media
So yeah… never picking up this book again. I feel like I need to make it clear (now that we are at the end of my review) that I don’t hate YOU if you loved this book. I hate this book, not you. I’m never going to hate someone for what they read UNLESS they try to force it on me cause then they are just a shitty person and that is what I’ll be hating them for.
I know a lot of people love this book and this series, but let me know your thoughts in the comments. If you liked it, tell me why and if you didn’t, tell me why. I know I seem to churn out a lot of negative reviews every now and then but I’m just being honest.
Lots of love,
Raven
