Fuuck. Is Jilly Gagnon the new lead for Open Heart? That explains it all. She has no idea how to write for black characters. PB had to rewrite Victoria's scenes in RCD1. Victoria was the only LI with no personal character arc. She was written out of the first book. We had to pay 25 fucking diamonds just to keep her in the production. We could barely interact with her. The grumpy white guy got more screentime than any of the other LIs. I couldn't stomach RCD3 after the all male LI party

Is she? I don’t know much about the writers, but I did do a quick google. I know the writing team changed in between Book 1 and 2, which is why they seems so disconnected. I know Victoria’s arc was rewritten because she assaulted MC and then PB made her an LI, and people refused to pay for her scenes anymore. RCD had a 5:2 M to F ratio and OH has a 1:2:1 (Ethan to M to F) ratio. The trends in treatment are quite similar. It sucks, and I expect nothing will change.

When people talk about an LI “being paywalled” or the story being centered on one LI, they aren’t necessarily saying that it’s free for everyone else, but more about the specific content they get and how it is distinctly inferior/more expensive. There is a difference in how LI’s are treated in the game and these differences come in many forms.

* opportunity for diamond scenes. Whether you have to wait 2-3 chapters at a time to interact with your LI or you can open the book and know you will see them.

* build up outside diamond scenes. If your LI only appears for 2-3 lines to build up a diamond scene, that is not good. Or having to pay to keep your LI In the story like Leah in LH or Victoria in RCD1.

* quality of diamond scenes. This is huge. Because all diamond scenes are not created equal. Some LIs get the bare minimum and others get diamond scenes that give lots of character development and relationship moments.

* lasting effects of diamond scenes/romance points. This is another one. How past interactions build into the dialogue and the interactions between characters. Again, some relationships are coded much better and little moments have hidden meaning. Others can’t get the right titles at their weddings.

I am sure there are more but it is late and I am tired. I just had this thought and had to get it out. Most of us are paying for time with our LIs, but the difference is the amount and the quality of that time and how it impacts the story as a whole. So when people are complaining, don’t get your back up and go “I pay too”. Instead, listen to their complaints and consider the overall picture.

If you could change anything in the show, what would you change?

Hmmm, so a few things instantly pop to mind, but I think the number one thing I would change is that RCD would not have a third book.

Other than Chapter 1 (which made my hopes for the book soar), this book has been an absolute mess. It was a hodgepodge of three plot lines, all of which needed more screen time to actually resonate. But that might have been forgivable if all the LIs and romance in the story weren’t pitched right out the window in the process.

The standards of what PB considers acceptable in a romance story were lowered significantly in RCD3. “Official” LIs, i.e. ones that MC has committed to as the primary LI, would disappear for multiple chapters at a time. MC would usually share info with her friends via group texts and the LIs reacted the same whether or not is was a playthrough where MC was engaged to them. A wedding was planned almost entirely with a side character, not the chosen LI. Numerous interactions with your main LI were via text message. Players didn’t get the option to have their fiance/e come home with them, it was Matt and Hunt regardless. The fiance(e)s didn’t live with MC even though they were engaged.

Basically, PB dropped the budget for this book so low that PB avoided anything that would force them to write 5 versions of a scene, so all the LIs acted like friends, not intimate partners who were planning to spend their lives together. Chazz became the default life partner for MC. And in a book where MC is facing a violent stalker, the LIs all appear pretty callous because they are not appropriately concerned that the woman they plan to marry is facing such a threat. They are too caught up in their own lives to bother caring. And when a romance story can’t convey that LIs care about the MC, it has failed.

Now, some people might not be too bothered as RCD1 and 2 were not huge favorites in this fandom. But I worry about what this means for quality of interactions with LIs going forward, particularly if you choose an LI that doesn’t make PB enough money (Victoria, Seth, Teja). We have now set a standard that LIs don’t have to be there for wedding planning, that LIs can just be included on group texts, that PB can write one version of a scene instead of 3-5 if they use a friend instead of the reader’s chosen LI. And that scares me.

So I’m currently working on a cross over fic between TRR and RCD and I’m wondering if you know or think that the events of book two of TRR and RCD could realistically be happening at the same time? Or do you think book two of TRR took place before RCD?

RCD1 or RCD2 or RCD3? I dont think there was much mentioned in TRR about RCD and vice versa 🤔 (at least I think so but I can’t think straight today) Only in RCD2 they all went to Cordonia to film there but I think that's about it. I always assumed RCD2 took place after TRR3 just because it was so calm in Cordonia and there were no assassins anywhere lmao. 

I think it’s safe to assume RCD is happening at the same time as TRR2 but remember that the three books of TRR happened within ONE year and RCD takes a bit longer (as also RCD3 started off one year later). 

If anyone from my followers knows/remembers more, please help Nonny out!

Royal Romance opens on some ball scene and we can choose a dress for free...until the actual chapter where the same options reappear behind diamonds

Same with the premiere for RCD1 and Rafael’s Danny and Bobby’s memorial in OH2

Yep bc they always do the thing where they a) include a diamond choice that depends on whether or not the player actually purchases it or b) deviate so far from their original plan that it comes off as absurdly odd and mismatched, expecting people to believe that This Is How It's Always Been because it's been so long since they've introduced the climax as the prologue

I like HC and hate MTFL and yet, I still respect your opinion because you have every right to say whatever you want in your own blog. Awww thank you. I really do try to keep my criticism constructive and to let people enjoy things. We all have different taste, because we all have differnet personalities and experiences and I respect that. I like that we all have different taste, because if we all lik3 exactly the same things and agreed all the time, it would be boring, I like discussing and debating books, I just try to do it in a respectful manner. And as I said, it’ss not that I dislike HC, I just like all the other VIP books better. I also like Platinum and RCD better, but they are amongst my all-time favorite Choices books (at least RCD1).

(Heads up: this was not supposed to be a long reply, sorry!)

It was SUPER HARD to get them. Took me a bit to figure it out. I can’t do it from my phone or my normal tablet without catching the dialogue/text or the text boxes as they’re fading. The scenes change too quick. However, on my laptop (I have a chromebook, which is essentially half tablet) I notice a few seconds of a lag at the end of a scene just before the background is about to change. That’s when I’m able to get the screenshot. There are some I haven’t been able to capture though, like the Eros building in PM or the airplane view from RCD1. Those books change scenes quicker than the rest of the books so far.

Sometimes you may also notice that there are 2 versions of the same background. When there’s a moving background (like panning from left to right) I can get the different details that way as well, but that’s something I’m able to do on my phone too.

In any case, I do it so there’s an archive of them somewhere because I could never find the screenshots I needed when practicing editing. (I might just create yet another sideblog so everything will be much more organized than it currently is. If I hate my current system enough, or if enough people want me to just create a sep. blog for it I will.) I work too slow though. So I hope this helps you out!! Whatever device you use, just look for a lag at the end (or the beginning, right after the fade in works sometimes) of a scene and you should be able to get the screenshot without a problem!

One thing I'm wondering this time is who will win the best female LIs. Will it be Hana again (I remember she won both nominations and final stages by a huge landslide) or will it be Kamilah or Naomi who seems to be getting a lot of love (esp Kamilah)

Also. I'm imagined even more categories this time. Also this time we will only be counting books that came after Sophomore 2 (inclusive and so RCD1, HftH [lol] , ES3 will count along with the later releases).

I am also interested on seing who will win the best book award. Will it be ILITW2 or VOS or who knows... AME 👀👀👀
