You know how Jaybin was very "pat-patable" so there were always one or two panels where other characters patted his head? So, I actually need this to be ultimate Jason's ability to charm anyone to want to pat him on the head, to the point it continues even after he becomes a double-fridge. Once his helmet is not on him, everyone is just... struck with an urge to ruffle his hair. And it doesn't matter if they are older, younger, or shorter — everyone just want to do that.
Jason brings kids from streets to Leslie to check on them and help to settle down with new families? Leslie asks him to lean over here and pats him on the head, ignoring his flustered face. Jason cooperates with Two-Face? Get a random pat-pat.
The worst part? Kids do that, too!
One moment, he is squatting in front of a kid, cooing at them, and in the next moment, they softly ruffle his hair to thank him for help. And this is embarrassing.
Jason, muttering: I think I am cursed
Dick, worried: What? Why? What are the symptoms?
Jason: Look
Jason, making his way to Tim, who flips through files: So, birdie, I got rid of the trafficking ring you asked me to take care of.
Tim, without getting distracted: Thanks, Jay *reaches out to pat him on the head*
Jason: SEE? THAT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME. WITH EVERYONE.
Dick, stifling a giggle: Well—
Jason, calling Talia at midnight: Are you sure there are no side effects of Pit sounding like this? Sure-sure?
Talia, tired as fuck: I think I would notice that, Jason.
Jason: THEN WHAT IS THE REASON.
Talia: *hangs up*
Jason, pacing in the Cave next to Bruce, because he is a) also insomniac; b) is the greatest detective, so he should be a help: There is only one theory that stays unverified, but it is too unbelievable
Bruce: Hm? Which one?
Jason: The one that means that I am just cute like that. Ridiculous, right?
Bruce: *tries to fight a smile*
Jason: No. No. SHUT UP.
Bruce: I didn't say anything, lad.
Jason: I HEAR YOU THINKING FROM THERE
Bruce, amused: Okay, I'll think quieter.

Finally a journalist/analyst actually calling out the ridiculousness of Red Bull's rhetoric trying to justify Lawson's promotion and highlighting he didn't in any way perform better than what Daniel had done throughout the season.

i just remembered that i can in fact post Old Art so here is an album cover project from last semester
Details below!
This was the second project of my Illustration Intensive I class last semester, and we had to either design or redesign an album cover, so I chose The Mechanisms
During the project I took a 4-hour detour trying to translate the Red Signal chant into norse runes, aka I threw it through a translator and tried (emphasis on tried) via wikipedia to fix any Weirdness despite knowing next to nothing about runes so its probably. Incredibly wrong lol

If I had any say in the development of The Outlast Trials, my plea to Red Barrels would be this: expand on the characters you’ve already got instead of adding new ones. Franco, the Pitcher, Amelia, Henrietta, they’ve all been great. But do you know what’s been one of my favourite updates? The one for the Imposter. Making them able to interact with players more. I was hanging out with one for quite a while in Kill the Snitch, thinking it was my buddy @cannibalizedcadavers. He even offered me a lockpick, and if Danny hadn’t picked up a key elsewhere in the trial at that exact moment, I would’ve taken the bait and gotten stabbed. I got out of there sharpish, but it was super unsettling being misled like that, much better than the telltale giggling they used to do.
I feel like they should add new mechanics to the guys already on the roster, refine them a little, maybe even design alternative versions. There are supposed to be multiple Pushers, multiple Night Hunters, multiple Pitchers, and yet they all have the same voice lines and appearance. The Jaeger being unique makes sense because she’s Henrietta, and we know some of the other ex-pops have names, Frank, George, Danny, etc. But we see two heavy ex-pops die. The Black Big Grunt dies twice in Franco’s trials (that I can recall), first in Poison the Medicine, then again in Poison the Cattle. So, where does that fit into the timeline? I take it we’re supposed to assume it's a different Big Grunt.
Teach the old dogs some new tricks instead of trying to distract us with new playmates. Refine some new mechanics or behaviours, even if they’re not strictly player-related.
I’ve always found it odd that ex-pops don’t react to one another, or at least not to the Prime Assets. I’m not asking for Prime Time-level dialogue, just something, especially from specialist ex-pops. I think they’d all have something funny to say about the Pusher, and the Pusher mistakenly thinking he’s still their doctor? Come on. Give me some chemistry between the characters. There’s a severe lack of interactivity within the game, both with the characters and their environments. Actually, I think it’s only Franco and maaaaybe Phyllis who mention there’s something weird about their respective trial environments.
The Prime Assets are supposed to be these charismatic leaders, but we never get to see Phyllis playing mother hen, Coyle playing drill sergeant, or Franco building up a new gang. There’s a lot of tell, don’t show, which made sense in the beginning. I admit that during Amelia’s Escape, I was hoping to see more of the Sinyala Facility. Specifically, I was hoping to get a peek at where they’re keeping the ex-pops when they’re not in active trials. I’m imagining an asylum-type environment, which at some point could be used as a map itself. Imagine trying to escape and instead winding up in a sleep room full of ex-pops who want you dead. I know the developers have talked about this before, but I’m sorry, with how volatile the ex-pops are, I cannot see them all getting along enough to be in a sleep room like the Reagents. There must be containment procedures, something to keep them more docile when they aren’t on patrol.
Also, they fucking killed Clyde Perry. I was really hoping to see him in-game, even if he was just looking down on us like Wernicke, maybe hear some voice lines from him. But no. He’s gone. Wasted just to big up Henrietta’s arrival. It’s interesting that both Clyde and Henrietta were victimised by Coyle, and it was Henrietta who ended Clyde. I really wonder how the Jaeger will work in Coyle’s trial environments. Because surely she’d want revenge? She could crack him like a pistachio, especially with all her new enhancements. How are they going to keep Coyle safe? Just not let them out of the insertion gate at the same time? Seems reasonable, I guess. But they probably won’t think it through that thoroughly.
I wish that story informed gameplay in more ways than just introducing new hazards. I don’t need gas or frost. What I need is for the Prime Assets to bark at their underlings and call the Pitcher a creepy bastard. For general ex-pops to maybe keep their distance from Prime Assets, or risk friendly fire.
--------
UPDATE
So, as you probably guessed, I started writing this before the Jaeger was released (21st April, to be exact). And just as I suspected, there’s no new dialogue between ex-pops. I expected Henrietta/the Jaeger to at least hint at something to do with Coyle. Coyle’s voice actor, Julian Bailey, seems to be tied up with other acting work at the moment, so I suppose I can understand why we’re not getting anything new from him. But come on, there’s no hostility from the Jaeger towards him? Nothing about the man who is responsible for what’s happened to her? No long-standing fear of cops or men in general?
Uuuuugh. I just wish it mattered more which ex-pops are actually in the trial, and that they acknowledged their surroundings. Phyllis mentions feeling like she’s living the same day over and over again, and that the doctors have “moved things around again”. But she was also the one to notice Amelia running around and that the rules were changing.
I suppose this is more of a vent piece than my usual analysis-style post. In between these big, story-altering events, I’d love it if Red Barrels would sneak in some little character updates, additional dialogue, maybe a few model changes. Something. Anything. Something more than just evidence documents.

the older pines twins in my starwars!gravity falls au :D
Tumblr media
Jedi Master Stanford Pines
He was seen as a rising star amongst the Jedi of his generation; powerful in the Force, incredibly intelligent, and firmly rooted in the Light. Many knights and masters clamored with one another over who would take him on as a padawan, and he was eventually paired with Master Jheselbraum, a young Jedi famous for her accomplishments in both research and in sentient aid.
An incident involving his twin brother during their apprenticeship caused his master to repudiate him before he could be knighted. He struggled to catch up after spending nearly a year without a Jedi Master to teach him, and never forgives his brother for ruining his reputation and his chances at becoming a Jedi knight ahead of schedule. He'll always carry the shame of repudiation with him. (He'll always carry the wound of his brother's betrayal)
He goes on to study the mysteries of the galaxy, of the Force itself
He had a run-in with a sith holocron in his youth, when he was freshly knighted and very self-assured in his ability to stay in the Light. He thought he could study it without being corrupted, but was wrong. The secret of that holocron haunts him to this day.
He couldn't bring himself to destroy it. He tells himself it's because he fears destroying the holocron would release the spirit within and allow it free, but really... it contains so much knowledge, if he could just learn how to keep the Dark at bay, he could learn so much. The thought of permanently destroying that potential knowledge was too much for him to bear. Instead, he called on someone to hide it for him.
After ten years of silence between them, he contacted his twin brother to get him to take the holocron away and hide it where no one would find it. That was 30 years ago, and he hasn't seen his brother since.
He never planned on taking on a padawan, but when he meets Dipper on a visit to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, he is immediately charmed. Dipper reminds him so much of himself, at that age; strong in the force, rooted in the Light, and fiercely intelligent. He wants to train him, to teach him everything he's learned about the Force (he wants to give him the opportunities that Ford never had, after being repudiated).

Stanley Pines, notorious space pirate
Grew up in the Jedi temple on Coruscant, alongside his twin brother. Where Ford was seen as having incredible potential, Stan was... not. He was less outwardly powerful in the force, no good at meditation or finding 'serenity', and his emotions tended to run hot. The people of the Order generally thought he wasn't fit for the life of a Jedi.
When Ford accepts an apprenticeship with Master Jheselbraum, Stan manages to find a master as well, though one not nearly as famous or accomplished as Master Jess.
Years later, when a mission goes terribly wrong, and a huge misunderstanding occurs, Stan is thrown out of the Order for fear that he's falling to the Dark side.
He does what he has to in order to survive; he becomes a drifter, he stows away on ships and works with pirates, he scams and does menial labor, he runs spice for a bit. He ends up wanted in various parts of the galaxy for various different crimes. He eventually manages to get his hands on a small spacecraft, which he lives out of for a few years.
When Ford reaches out and contacts him, Stan drops everything to go to his brother, hopeful for reconciliation. It doesn't go over well, when he realizes what Ford wants. Arguments are had, strong words exchanged, and Stan leaves with the artifact his brother wants him to hide. (He destroys it instead) (What Ford doesn't know won't hurt him)
30 years later, Stan is a fairly successful pirate captain. His crew is small, but effective, and they make enough to take care of themselves. Stan has found something that resembles belonging, in his little crew. The finality of his last interaction with his brother causes him to lose hope for reconciliation, but it also leaves him open to forging new bonds.
When he and his crew board a rival pirate gang's ship, looking to take back the credits they rightfully scored on a successful scam, they end up finding a small group of kids. It's Mabel, and her new friends: Candy, Grenda, and Gideon. Stan and his crew take in the kids, trying to figure out a good way to return them to their families without also being caught by law enforcement.
