A Crimpella — VoicePlay music video

This is one of the more odd and creative things VoicePlay concocted early on. They turned a collection of phonations, sound effects, nonsense words, and foreign language lyrics from two dozen songs into a delightfully goofy performance art piece. You will almost certainly recognize some of the samples. The set-up is a little drawn-out for my taste, but once the beat kicks in, it's off to the races.

For this project I have decided to explore the process of animations made specifically with motion capture software.The aim of this project is to gain understanding and skills in this area, such as how to use motion capture software with rigged skeletons and implementing this into unreal engine to be used in a game. I will also be looking into different motion capture software to see how they work differently and what would be better to use. This also means i'll be looking at what software produces the best skeleton that is most compatible with other skeletal rigs

¹ Normally I translate nakama as friends/comrades/(group)mates, but this song was used as the ending theme to GOMEN NASAI (translated as “Ring of Curse” on Netflix, although it’s apparently been taken off at least the U.S. version).

Spoiler alert: In the scene right before the credits roll and DEEP MIND plays, Suzuki Airi breaks the fourth wall and declares the viewer “nakama”, not because of any real friendship (YOU BROKE THAT WHEN YOU CURSED US ALL, AIRI) but because the audience and her are now in the “same boat”, so to speak.

Anyway, in view of the above, I felt “in this together” was innocuous-sounding enough to retain nakama’s usual spunkiness but convey GOMEN NASAI’s atmosphere properly as well.

Shanin Waite, Michigan inmate 777026, born 1992, incarceration intake at age 24, earliest possible release/parole date 09/29/2023, full release date 01/18/2059

Breaking and Entering, Home Invasion, Assault on LEO

Shanin Nicholas Waite, was sentenced to 76 months to 40 years in prison on charges of attempted home invasion second degree and three counts of breaking and entering with intent, habitual offender fourth offense, in 51st Circuit Court.

Waite is the co-defendant with Ryan Allen Stever in multiple break-ins last year. These incidents originally took place during the late hours of Sept. 12, 2016 and into the next morning.

Two breaking and entering and one attempted home invasion took place in Mason County. One breaking and entering in Pere Marquette Township at King Funeral Home, a breaking and entering at Hamlin Grocery and an attempted home invasion in Branch Township.

It was reported that a vehicle belonging to King Funeral Home was also stolen during the incident, which Waite admitted to during his hearing back in April.

All incidents were captured on security cameras.

An additional incident occurred with Waite after he was caught safe breaking at Little Caesars Pizza on Oct. 2, 2016 on U.S. 10 in Pere Marquette Township.

According to a statement made by Waite to the court, he was given a key by someone to enter the building, but he would not say who.

Waite is also required to pay restitution in the amounts of $5,000 to King Funeral Home, $498 to Little Caesars Pizza, and $777.80 to Lower Hamlin Grocery with his co-defendant.

Waite made a statement to the court during his sentencing, stating he was ready to take this time during his incarceration to reflect and build himself up.

“I vow to take this time to build myself up physically, mentally, and spiritually,” he said.

He also offered an apology to the business owners that he stole from.

“I have made a lot of mistakes in my life. I offer no excuses for the crimes I have committed,” he said. “Sincerely, I have never meant to and would never hurt another person.”

Waite has an extensive history of criminal matter in courts in other counties including being previously convicted July 30, 2010 on a charge of assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer in Muskegon County,  a previous conviction on June 11, 2012 on a charge of unlawful driving away of a vehicle in Ottowa County, a September 16, 2014 conviction on a charge of unlawful driving away in Oakland County, and a Sept. 16, 2014 conviction on a charge of assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer in Oakland County.

Hi hello there, winter break just ended for me and I'm busy with my studies (High school is kicking my ass) Anyways!

Today I would like to share my analysis on Gakushuu's birthday - of course I will be happy if you share your opinion on this topic in the comments! :) 🧡

I've been thinking about it for quite a long time, maybe a good few months lol but I didn't know exactly how to go about it.

However, recently as I was cutting out pictures of Gakushuu and Karma from manga panels, I noticed this one little detail:

Chapter 51: "The Son's Time" - page: 2

In the photo we see Gakushuu helping one student from the main school building; And here's the detail I wanted to talk about, which is the book he's holding.

On the cover of the book it says '２０１３ 年 版' which means "2013 edition" and under it it says '理 系 数学' meaning "science and mathematics". I found this book (or rather something very similar, or maybe even what I'm looking for) on the internet:

This is all for now, as much as for the book - but I decided to take a closer look at the details.

I searched for the exact release date of this manga:

Based off of this manga, an anime adaptation was created - the first volume of the manga went on sale on November 2, 2012 and the last volume on July 4, 2016.

Let's focus on volume 6 of the Assassination Classroom manga - it was released on October 6, 2015.

A panel with a photo of Gakushuu giving tutoring is included in this 2015 manga volume, and the photo shows the 2013 textbooks.

So after all these analyzes it could be concluded that the whole event would play out either in 2013 as the math book out of the photo shows it, or 2014-2015 according to the release date of the 6th part of this manga.

If we consider 2015, in this manga they study for the upcoming exams for (if I'm not mistaken) 2nd trimester.

Middle school lasts for 3 years, so by year 3 Gakushuu would be already 14-15 years old BUT since Gakushuu’s birthday's the 1st of January, that means he would turn (most likely) 15 during winter vacation.

So during the first trimester all the way to winter vacation he is still 14 years old.

So again, if we were to consider 2015 as the year in which all the action is played out, it would mean that this 2015 Gakushuu would be 14 years old, and by the new year 2016 he would be 15 years old. You could say that the book he was holding from the '2013 release' would have been already I think 2 years old?? by the time Gakushuu is tutoring other students. However, now I was wondering if Gakuho would go so far as to even provide the school with the latest editions of books ?? And the book he's holding is actually from the same year it all happens?

If so, then: If the action took place in the year 2013, then Gakushuu would be 14 years old - the year would end with winter vacation and Gakushuu would turn 15, the age at which he would also end Middle school.

It would turn out that if all of this took place in 2013 (considering 2014 as the year where Koro-Sensei gets assassinated in March) and Gakushuu would turn 15 in 2014,

then 01/01/1999 would be the year he was born in.

After writing all this, I myself am not really sure about my analyzes anymore... if there is anything to improve in my analysis that someone could correct, I would be very grateful! I'm sorry it was so long - and I hope it was somehow understandable because I already got confused.

I'll add a bonus here, I read somewhere that apparently Karma is older than Gakushuu (I mean well, he was born on December 25, so it would make sense if Karma already turned 15 in 2013, and in 2014 he would be 16 by the end of the year but he would be already in the first class of high school, which would place him in the same year as Gakushuu.

So it would mean that Karma was born in 1998/12/25????, not a whole week older than Gakushuu.

OKAY UPDATE...

I just remembered a scene from the 13th Manga, chapter 111: "Career Time" page 11-12

Karma is on the way to talk to Koro Sensei about his future dream job. At the very bottom of page 11, Karma is leaning against a chair and talking about a certain earthquake, "The great Kanto Earthquake" and there is a small note saying: "he just says earthquake, but he's probably referring to this one" and while looking through my to German translated Manga, it says there:

"Großes Erdbeben in der Region um Kobe am 17. Januar 1995" - meaning: "Great earthquake in the Kobe area on January 17, 1995"

Of course, this could just be an information Karma mentions to inform Koro-Sensei that the politicians in that situation were useless. However, on the next page (p. 12) we see a boy standing in front of some garage with a truck in it.

"But, the nation kept funtioning regardless, and it pretty much ran like normal, right? That things kept working during a state of emergency like that, even without politicians… I thought it was amazing that bureaucrats were throwing out ideas from the shadows like that"

He says 'I thought it was amazing' which can be perceived in two ways:

a) Karma was there when the earthquake strikes, and says he liked the way bureaucrats operated in this earthquake situation at that time;

or b) he is just saying that the situation with the earthquake and the behaviour of the bureaucrats in 1995 was fascinating to him.

As much as I like point a), this point b) tempts me a bit to analyse:

How would he possibly know how the bureaucrats operated in those days IF he was NOT born at that time? Of course, he could also find it at the present time during his middle school years, or he really was there, saw and heard everything about the earthquake.

This might be just a stupid theory, but the hair colours of the boy in this one scene is the same shade as Karma's, and the boy is young so maybe it was him? HOWEVER, it would not make any sense as to the theory that the action took place in 2013 or 2015 because Karma would have been 25/28?? years old then in 2013/2015.

Maybe for now I will stick to the theory that Gakushuu was born on 01/01/1999 and Karma was born on 25/12/1998.

Some meandering thoughts about jokes about rape and cultural changes in the last decade and a half

Like, don’t get me wrong, I’m really glad we’re in a place now where we DO question rape jokes and it would be much harder to get away with “raping Jonah Hill is incredibly amusing” as the center of a scene the way that you could in 2007-2013 but I do kind of feel like we don’t talk about how sudden that change was enough.

People talk about how you should have always known that awful things are awful but if you’re surrounded by rape jokes and pedophilia jokes all the time and that’s what’s funny to the other kids around you and the adults in your lives and what makes up the jokes in the movies you watch then it’s hard to act like you always knew it was wrong.

Dead baby jokes were a HUGE thing when I was a teen and in my early twenties and sitting around swapping dead baby jokes was just a thing we did, and tossed in among them were things like:

A joke about incest with the punchline “Get off me pa, you’re crushing my smokes.”

This joke about a pedophile murdering a child.

Let’s not turn this rape into a murder.

And hell, look at the activity graph for “soap on a rope” on urban dictionary:

Letterboxd has their “sexual assault against men played for comedy page” and if you sort by release date there’s a downward trend with 2014 as a really stand-out year for rape jokes about men in popular movies:

Shock porn sites used to be a thing and they used to be a COMMON thing. A thing that would get remixed and have late night hosts make jokes about them and that got parody music videos.

So on the one hand I was really glad that in 2010 the hacker conference WASN’T asking me to make a rape joke on their tee shirt, but since Pool 2 Girl came up at every single “this is what defcon is about” discussion and some of the guys from the con had printed up “lemonparty.org” stickers to slap up around town it wouldn’t have been *surprising* if they’d been asking for that.

If you were a teenager in 2005 would you have known how much of a dick move goatse-ing people was? We didn’t have the same culture of trigger warnings (not that I disapprove of trigger warnings, they are good and I like them) and there was very much an attitude online at the time of “if you can’t handle it log off.”

I think the fappening was the turning point for a lot of this stuff - I think that was a big cultural moment that changed a lot of people’s attitudes really quickly and I’m seeing echos of that with what Chris Evans is dealing with right now: people are a lot faster to say “oh, that sucks, don’t be an asshole, report people for posting the pics” while I remember sitting and arguing in an imgur thread because there were a bunch of people saying “if you don’t like it don’t take nudes” about the celebrities who got caught in the icloud leak.

People look at Shane Dawson’s (admittedly gross and incredibly inappropriate) behavior with a poster of Willow Smith and act like it’s unprecedented***** but as someone who remembers not only Olsen Eighteenth Birthday countdowns but ALSO the jokes about fucking the Olsen twins that came BEFORE they were legal that’s just bizarre. Seeing people my age and older react to James Gunn’s pedophilic twitter jokes like they’re worse than Jay Leno’s jokes about Michael Jackson (which were made on TV! Across America! On a major network!) is just. It’s bizarre.

I’m glad we are where we are now, I’m glad that making rape jokes in public or jokes about incest or pedophilia (or murder or abortion) is less common and less okay (especially in children’s media, jesus fuck) and more likely to get criticized.

But I’m also pretty sure I’m going to get called a rape apologist by *someone* for saying “2010 was a different time, rape jokes were more common and we didn’t realize how shitty it was” when it really was a different time and rape jokes were more common and most people didn’t realize how shitty it was. I sure didn’t. I do now, and I’m glad I do now. But pretending that we should have ALWAYS known this, pretending that this was NEVER acceptable, pretending that it WASN’T a different time is ignoring the fact that for over a decade there was an entire genre of pedophilic rape jokes (that were frequently also racist) centered around one celebrity and that people told these jokes in public and in pop culture *all the time.*

Does that make it right? Fuck, I don’t know, shit is relative. It was still largely acceptable to electrocute gay kids and people tossed around the word “faggot” pretty freely. Mean Girls is full of jokes about how awful it is for people to think you’re a lesbian and Superbad is full of jokes about getting people shitfaced so they’ll sleep with you (so date rape) and there’s an entire “cute comedy” from the 80s starring Kurt Russel and Goldie Hawn that’s an extended rape-by-fraud joke. I think that as a whole we’re better now as people than we were in 2010 and the 90s and the 80s and the 50s and I don’t think that someone who made a sexist joke in the 80s is irredeemably evil and I don’t think people making rape jokes in the 2010s are rape apologists in 2020 and I wish there was a lot more understanding of both history and nuance in these conversations.

*****to be very, very clear Shane Dawson has been filmed kissing underage fans on the mouth and having explicit sexual conversations with his very young cousin - Dawson has done things that go beyond “inappropriate” and fall clearly into “wrong” “bad” “dangerous” “illegal” etc, which is all the more reason that it’s so strange to see people focusing on him fake masturbating on a poster of Willow Smith. YES doing that was gross but why is it even being compared to the way he’s been filmed interacting with fans? The lack of nuance, making “fake masturbating at a poster” and “creating a sexually abused puppet character” the same as “inappropriately touched and kissed minor fans and engaged a young child in explicit sexual conversations” is NOT GOOD. That is a bad thing. Actually, you know what, I thought I was done ranting, I’m not.

It’s purity culture.

YES you should attempt to do less harm with your language, YES you should attempt to not use slurs, YES you should try to avoid making rape jokes. But there’s an entire huge group of people who are willing to drag up rape jokes from a decade when rape jokes were REALLY REALLY common in order to say that nothing you say or do today matters.

And that same group is ALSO really interested in expanding the concept of what pedophilia is to include age differences in adults or liking the wrong style of drawing and it’s a purity culture silencing tactic and can we PLEASE stop pretending that gross, tasteless jokes are the same thing as actually sexually abusing people? Can we stop pretending that pointing out “rape jokes were more common fifteen years ago and I feel bad about it but that’s just the way it was and I don’t make jokes like that anymore” is the same as saying “rape isn’t bad and you shouldn’t make a big deal out of it.”

It’s always good to try to be a less shitty human but if you’re only allowed to grow and improve and be less shitty if you never fucked up in the first place then it’s all just calvinist bullshit and none of us could ever really be saved in the first place.

I dunno, dudes. We got so careful about disapproving of the wrong kind of language that we let a white supremacist concern troll Disney into firing a director who caught the attention of the alt right by shit-talking the president.

Would the image of a womanizer not damage the image of 1D?

If they’d portrait him as a sleeze it would have surely damaged the overal image of 1D. But Harrys image portrait him as charming, a bit quirky and overall an airhead that likes people and doesn’t want to be tied down. Thus giving the illusion of being potentially available to every woman and showing them a good, no strings attached, time. Which is a massive selling point for boybands to increase the age range of their fans.

In addition, all his conquests would be used to stir up drama or simply generate attention at crucial times to get 1D in the press without mentioning their current promo focus in every headline.

The winter girlfriends had a special role as they were the only ones actively worked as continuous dating. To build some attachment, have a continuous storyline that could be tied to the just released album and bridge the holiday pause, and when the relationship ended generate more drama to be used for promo.

Harry did keep on using his womanizer image to promote both his solo albums but in a very controlled manner. The numbers of new woman linked to him declined to 1 in 2019, for now we are at 0 (1) in 2020

HS promo used 3 woman as inspirations for songs (Towns, Fowler, Swift) and a tour gf (Rowe)

FL promo only uses the previous tour gf as now ex to push the storyline of a breakup album

He is very visibly changing his image while still maintaining a level of connection to his old image. Whether that's due to contractual restrictions or a strategy to not alienate to many fans is unclear

Last year, Chromatics released their new album Closer to Grey. The album was dubbed the band’s “seventh” album. Their 2012 album Kill for Love was their fifth, and, with a new announcement today, it looks like Johnny Jewel just might finally release the album he’s been teasing for over five years: Dear Tommy.

Tonight, a new tracklist for Dear Tommy has been revealed. The album features unheard versions of the three songs that have been previously released (“Just Like You,” “Dear Tommy,” and “Time Rider”). Every other song is thus far unreleased. Find the tracklist below. Dear Tommy still doesn’t have an official release date.

A Johnny Jewel–directed video for a new song called “Teacher” has also been shared.

The Dear Tommy timeline stretches back for over half a decade. The album was first announced in December 2014 with the promise that it would arrive in the coming months. Several songs from the album’s first tracklist were promised in the years following the initial announcement.

Then, in 2017, it was announced that the album had been scrapped entirely. Jewel’s manager at the time claimed that Jewel had destroyed every physical copy of Dear Tommy after going through a near-death experience. It was also claimed that Jewel completely re-recorded the project. At one point, Dear Tommy was given a fall 2018 release date.

In addition to Closer to Grey and the individual singles from Dear Tommy, Johnny Jewel has been busy working on the upcoming Desire album. He also helped soundtrack David Lynch’s most recent season of Twin Peaks. Recently, Johnny Jewel shared an Angel Olsen remix.

As much as we try to remind you all about how uncertain elections can be — pleas that sometimes fall on deaf ears — it’s important to keep in mind in advance of the Iowa caucuses. To begin with, primaries are much harder to poll than general elections, and caucuses are even harder to poll than primaries, as they introduce a number of complications. Caucuses require a long time commitment, which can make turnout harder to predict. They aren’t a secret ballot, so voters can literally try to persuade their neighbors to change sides. And Iowa Democrats employ a viability check — we’ll talk about that more before the caucuses on Monday — that asks voters to switch candidates if their first choice doesn’t clear a certain threshold, usually 15 percent of the vote at that caucus site. That makes second choices important, and even opens up the possibility of strategic alliances between the candidates.

So even though Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden are doing a bit better than other Democrats in Iowa polls, everyone would need a bit of luck to win the caucuses. Per our model, as of 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sanders had a 37 percent chance of winning the most votes1 — which is the best in the field. But it also means there’s a 63 percent chance he won’t win. Our model forecasts Biden to win 35 percent of the time, meanwhile, followed by Pete Buttigieg at 16 percent, Elizabeth Warren at 9 percent and Amy Klobuchar at 3 percent. Even Klobuchar isn’t that much of a long shot. Her chances are about the same as — let’s go with a football analogy since the Super Bowl is this weekend — Brett Favre’s chance of throwing an interception on any given pass attempt.

Moreover, the plausible range of vote shares for the candidates varies widely. For Sanders, for instance, the 80th percentile range — meaning that in 80 percent of simulations, his numbers wind up somewhere in this range — runs from 11 percent to 44 percent of the vote. That also implies there’s a 10 percent chance he finishes with less than 11 percent of the vote and a 10 percent chance he finishes with more than 44 percent.

These ranges will narrow slightly by the time we actually get to caucus day on Monday. And our model will be more confident once we get to states that hold primaries, because those are easier to poll.

But the reason for these wide ranges is not to cover our asses. Instead, it’s strictly empirical. Take a look at what polls said a few days before previous Iowa caucuses and you’ll find they were sometimes much less correlated with the results than you might assume. Instead, there was often late movement, election night surprises, or both.

More precisely, I ran retroactive versions of our polling averages for all Iowa caucuses dating back to 1988, excluding the 1992 Democratic nomination, where the other candidates essentially ceded the caucuses to Iowa U.S. Senator Tom Harkin. (Before 1988, polling of the caucuses was fairly sparse, so we can’t really calculate a polling average in the same way that we do today — although there were a number of upsets, like George H.W. Bush coming from way behind to beat Ronald Reagan there in 1980.) I’ll compare what the polls looked like after allocating undecided voters2 as of 12:01 a.m. four days before the caucuses — so as of just after midnight on Thursday in years where the caucuses were held on a Monday, for example — against the actual caucus results.3

You can find all of this data in a table at the end of this article. But just to show how frequent surprises are — really, it’s a surprise when there isn’t a surprise or two! — let me briefly run through each race in reverse chronological order.

Polls at this point in the 2016 Republican race had Donald Trump at 31 percent, Ted Cruz at 26 percent and Marco Rubio at 14 percent. The actual results were Cruz 28, Trump 24, Rubio 23 — so while the polls nailed Cruz, they were 7 percentage points too high on Trump and almost 10 points too low on Rubio.

Polls in the 2016 Democratic caucuses did much better. Hillary Clinton led Sanders 49-46 at polls at this point, and she wound up winning the caucuses 49.9 percent to 49.6 percent, although it was close enough that you could essentially call it a tie.

The 2012 Republican caucuses brought another surprise, however. Rick Santorum was at just 11 percent in polls at this point — in fifth place — but he wound up winning the caucuses (after a vote-counting dispute) with 25 percent of the vote, narrowly ahead of Mitt Romney.

Polls in the 2008 GOP race were quite accurate, predicting Mike Huckabee’s victory there and Romney’s second-place showing.

But the 2008 Democratic race saw a late surge for Barack Obama. He was trailing Clinton 31-27 in the polls four days before the caucuses, but the final Des Moines Register poll showed Obama moving ahead. That proved prescient, as he won the caucuses with 38 percent of the vote to 30 percent each for Clinton and John Edwards.

The 2004 Democratic caucuses saw even bigger last-minute swings. At this point, the polls showed the race as: Howard Dean 28 percent, Richard Gephart 25, John Kerry 20, Edwards 15. The actual finish bore almost no relation to the polls; it was Kerry 37 percent, Edwards 33, Dean 17 and Gephardt 11.

In the 2000 Republican race, polls showed George W. Bush leading Steve Forbes 50-23. The actual result was much closer: Bush 41 percent, Forbes 31 percent.

Polls in the 2000 Democric race were spot on, showing Al Gore leading Bill Bradley 62-38; he actually won 63-35.

In the 1996 Republican race, our average four days before the race would have shown Bob Dole ahead with 39 percent, followed by Forbes at 24 percent and Phil Gramm at 11 percent. Although Dole did win, he did so with only 26 percent of the vote. The second- and third-place candidates were surprises, meanwhile: not Forbes and Gramm, but Pat Buchanan (23 percent) and Lamar Alexander (18 percent), who had each been polling at just 9 percent at this point.

In 1988, GOP polls again correctly predicted Dole to win. But Pat Robertson, who was in third place at 13 percent (trailing vice president George H.W. Bush in second with 30 percent), wound up beating Bush 25-19 for second instead, behind Dole’s 37 percent.

On the Democratic side in 1988, Gephardt was correctly identified as the winner, receiving 31 percent of the actual vote as compared to 29 percent in polls. But Paul Simon, at 18 percent and in third place in the polls, finished in a surprising second place with 27 percent, ahead of Michael Dukakis at 22 percent.

So out of 11 races, we have only three cases (the 2016 and 2000 Democratic caucuses and the 2008 Republican caucuses) where the polls at this point were more or less spot on. And two of those three cases were in races where there were essentially just two candidates, which are sometimes easier to predict. Every other race featured some kind of late polling movement or election night surprise involving the top three candidates.

The trick is that … there doesn’t seem to be much of a pattern in which candidates surge and which ones don’t. In 2004, the establishment candidate, Kerry, overtook the insurgent liberal in Dean. But in several other races (say, Bush in 1988), the more establishment-type candidates underperformed. Sometimes, the late movement accelerated an existing trend, and sometimes it reversed one. Trump had been gaining ground in polls right up until a few days before the 2016 caucuses, for instance, before the last round of polls showed his lead slipping — and he further underperformed on caucus night. You can find several examples of Midwestern candidates overperforming on caucus night — but one of the biggest underachievers, Gephardt in 2004, was from Missouri, a neighboring state.

So you should be prepared for surprises on caucus night — and they may be genuine surprises, not necessarily the surprises that you’re hoping for or the ones that are easiest to conceive of right at this moment.
