closed starter, cross cabin wolf and isla @waterfallswords
.
Wolf nears the cabin in hopes of catching one of his brothers and rounding them up for the arduous task of fixing the bar. Instead, he's greeted by a face that he's only managed to speak to in passing due to all of their schedules. Immediately Wolf's face lights up in a quick smile. "Ah, the current light of the pack." he outstretches one arm to bring her into a brief hug at his side but it's soon released as he gestures to the road. "Where are you heading?" he asks as way of offering a walk and talk if she needs it. But, before they go anywhere Wolf nods towards the cabin. "Are either of my annoying brothers in there by any chance?"

Mama: Chapter Three
Tumblr media
A/N: Oop, another repost. I'll set this in my queue for now tho.
Pairing: Natasha Romanoff x Mom! Avenger! Reader
Warnings: Cussing, Clint being Clint.
Words: 1.2k
Tagging: @tyler-t0t
Thankfully, the rest of the trip was quiet and peaceful. I decided to listen to some music and rest for a bit. Once we landed, I put my jacket and backpack on, and then carefully picked up Lillith.
Clint stayed by my side the entire time, occasionally giving me a worried glance.
He spoke in a hushed tone once we got inside.
“You’ll be on the eighteenth floor, and I’m right above you if you need anything. I’ve already started to set up some things the way you like them. The map is up in the living room and the kitchen is stocked with snacks.” He told me.
“Thank you. I thought there was only one kitchen?” I asked him.
“There’s the main, but all floors have a basic setup. Fridge, microwave, sink, dishwasher, and countertop stove. There’s no oven, unless you buy one of the countertop ones.” He replied to me. I nodded.
Him, Natasha, Lillith, and I got into the elevator. Clint pushed the button to go up to my floor.
“I can’t believe she’s still asleep.” Natasha whispered to me. I smiled at her and readjusted my grip on the sleeping toddler in my arms.
“She sleeps through anything. It was a gift when she was littler.” I replied.
The elevator flew up the floors really quickly. Within two minutes we were already at my floor.
We got off, and Clint walked to the back of the floor. I looked around-this place was huge. And I had it entirely for Lillith and I…
I followed Clint into a bedroom that was as big as my entire living room in my old apartment, and saw the decor setup for Lillith.
The walls were painted to show a forest scenery, and various woodland animals weaved through the trees and branches. The colors were done tastefully in green, dark brown, and black. A touch of gold here and there, but overall it gave the room a very ‘foresty’ feeling. Lillith had a huge dresser and a closet with mirrors on it, along with her toy box and bookshelves. Her stuffed animals were everywhere, including on her bed. Thankfully, it was a twin, not a queen. Clint and Natasha excused themselves, heading to where I assumed the kitchen was.
The few times Lillith slept in a queen bed, she somehow managed to move more than enough to yank and burrito herself in all the blankets, usually getting stuck and hollering for me in the morning to let her out to go pee.
I set her down in the bed, pulling the blankets gently over her. I grabbed her plush wolf-that was almost half her size-and tucked it in her arms. She instinctively wrapped her arms around it, pulling it closer to her, I smiled and tucked her in, smoothing her hair around her face. I kissed her on her forehead and told her goodnight, before turning on the nightlight on the wall.
After gently closing the door, I found my bedroom. My door was painted completely (favorite color). It was just down the hallway from Lilliths, as well.
I walked in and was greeted by the sight of a large, plush rug and my desk. Everything was mostly still in boxes, because last time I had Clint help me move, kitchenware somehow made it into my desk and my papers had ended up in the kitchen. How he was able to screw up that bad was beyond me, but he somehow did it.
I tossed my jacket on the chair and set my backpack at the foot of my queen sized bed. The room was decorated with (favorite colors) and the walls were painted white. Shelves were waiting to be filled with my various trinkets and books, and it looks like I not only had a walk-in closet, but a huge bathroom as well.
After exploring a little bit and moving a box or two, I grabbed my hoodie from my backpack and headed to the kitchen area.
Clint was making a cup of coffee, and Natasha was looking at the massive map that took up most of one of the walls.
I opened the fridge and grabbed a soda, popping the lid off and taking a sip. I hopped on the island counter and watched as Clint tried to figure out how to work the coffee machine.
“Three scoops, fill the water, then press the on button. Not that hard dude.” I told him with a chuckle. He swore under his breath at me, in which I chucked again. I turned towards Natasha and the wall map.
“What is this?” She asked me, still facing the map.
“Red pins are places that Hydra has sent me, that I’ve found out about at least. Black pins are places I’ve been after Hydra, White is places I’ve been with Lillith.” I answered, sipping on my soda.
“And the green?”
“Places the Marines have sent me.”
“Yellow?”
“Places I’ve been before the Marines. My childhood.”
She hummed and turned, walking back to Clint and I.
I took the time to notice her outfit and her in general.
Slightly curvy red hair falling just at her shoulders, green eyes that reminded me of emeralds and the forest after rain. A simple t-shirt tucked into black pants, a black leather jacket I knew was just to cover up the fact that she was carrying a gun. Black boots that probably had a knife or two tucked in them.
“Take a photo, it’ll last longer.” She told me. I looked up to her face and smiled softly.
“I thought you didn’t want any evidence that you existed?” I told her as I took another drink of my soda.
She smirked at me. “I suppose you will be the only exception to that.” She replied.
I grinned and pulled out my phone, snapping a few photos of her.
“FINALLY!” Clint yelled. I jumped, spilling my soda all over my hoodie and nearly falling off the counter.
“Jesus Christ Clint, my kid is sleeping!” I whisper-yelled at him. He winced and muttered a ‘sorry’ as he held his coffee cup.
I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding, and hopped off the counter. My hoodie and shirt was soaked through with soda. I pulled the wet materials away from my body.
“Thanks, this is what I exactly needed right now.” I snarkily told him.
“You’re welcome, bitch.” He replied, pouring coffee into the cup.
I pulled off my hoodie and tossed it into a conveniently placed laundry basket. My shirt was soaked through as well. I groaned and tossed the now empty can of soda into the trash, and pulled off my shirt and tossed it into the basket.
Clint wolf-whistled and I flipped him off. “You’ve got a wife, asshole.” I reminded him.
He nodded, sipping on his coffee. Then he pointed to Natasha. “She’s single.”
My mouth opened in protest before I rolled my eyes.
“Oh please, I got too much to deal with. I’m not exactly wife material right now.” I replied.
“So?” He told me.
I shook my head. “You are insane. I’m getting a shower and going to bed. Clint, if you start some shit I will tape you to the ceiling.” I answered.
Natasha laughed as I entered the hallway, grabbing some clothes from my bag and headed to the bathroom.
I could tell we would get along fine.
~~
A/N: I honestly love this. Bit of detail that will/will not be in the story: Clint and Reader have been friends since they were young, drifting apart after high school. He’s the one that helped her with Lillith after her wife died, and helped her join S.H.I.E.L.D. They’ve got a fantastic relationship, if you can’t tell.

Adventure Time Skippable Episodes Tournament - Prequel
Welcome to what will be a tournament for the best "skippable" episode of Adventure Time! Before beginning, we need to decide which episodes count as skippable. There is a lot of debate about this, so I'd like some input before starting. This list came from Reddit user reapertuesday's reduced viewing guide and includes some episodes they marked as recommended.
The full list is under the cut. Before going over it, some Q&A:
Why call them skippable episodes? Why not filler or non-canon?
"Filler" refers to episodes that are made in order to prolong an adaptation of a source material. Adventure Time is an original creation, not based on a specific existing story, so there is no filler. In the same way, no episodes are "non-canon" unless specifically declared so by the crew.
So what defines a skippable episode?
To me, a skippable episode is any episode that does not:
Introduce a recurring character or item (e.g. Finn's various swords)*
Relate to a larger character development/arc/backstory or overarching plot point
Generally get a mention in any other episode
*A character introduced in one of these episodes may have a cameo in required episodes. However, if their presence isn't confusing even without watching their introduction episode, their intro episode may still be on the list. For example, Party God shows up at Prismo's party in S6 E1, but several other characters we don't know are also present, so it's not unusual even if you skipped his previous appearances.
Where are the Graybles, Fionna and Cake, and guest-animated episodes?
I consider these episodes to be kind of their own thing, contained in their own universe or singular episode. I know F&C have their own show now, but this list is specifically for watching Adventure Time proper, not any follow-up or spin-off material. Plus, at least one of the guest-animated episodes is considered genuinely non-canon, and I do want this list to have only canon episodes.
This episode isn't skippable, it's one of my favorites!
An episode being skippable doesn't mean it's not good - some of my favorite episodes are in this list. It just means that a first-time viewer can choose not to watch the episode and not be confused by anything later.
That being said, here is the list. Please reply in some form if you think an episode on here is required viewing (and explain why), or if you think I missed an episode. I'll give it one week before creating the bracket.

Elliot nods at her thanks before a wry sort of smile forms. He considers her for a moment and can see where she's a Cross – the same blonde hair, the same serious expression, and where she's not – hazel eyes, a clumsy demeanor. But he can tell she cares what they think, even if she tries to act like she doesn't, and he can say that over the past nine years, he cares about what she thinks too. Even when she wasn't part of their pack, Elliot still felt the need to reach out to his little sister, to let her know he was there. He wasn't much but he was still family. "Brother friend, huh? Guess you're not a bad little sister friend neither," he returns with a slight chuckle.
Shifting from one foot to another, Elliot nods. "Sometimes the universe is just telling ya to find the people who'll help you do those things." He shrugs a little, a wan smile crossing his features, "I know I ain't the best person to talk about that but...that's what family's for, Rory. Only way I've made it this far, that's for certain." Between his brothers and Isla, it feels like they've collectively carried him further than he could've ever gone himself. Pushing off the tree trunk, Elliot ambles over to her side, slinking down beside his sister until they're shoulder to shoulder. "No one likes disappointin' Wolf. He got them big watery eyes too. Looks like you just shot him through the heart." He chuckles and shakes his head, looking over at her.
"I can be there for you, Rory," comes the gentle reply and he wonders if this is how Hunter feels when he's down. Like he wishes he could just shake him and make him see that alls not lost – that things aren't that bad even if they feel terrible. "We can practice just the two of us 'till you feel ready and then you can surprise Ry by putting him on his ass," he chuckles, knocking her shoulder before nodding. "Don't let Hunter hear you say that. I seen him peepin' in when he walks by," Elliot cackles, "but yeah...I am too. She's..." he shrugs, a warm smile on his lips, "she's the best, ain't she?" He has long since stood by the fact that anything good in him was because of Isla, and that hasn't changed.
Tumblr media
Elliot's words work to ease Rory's tension and the smile stops being so forced, instead becoming grateful as she looks to him. "Yeah, I know. I don't wanna change his mind either, really. But, thank you." It's been easier to call Wolf and Elliot her brothers in the previous nine years, but sometimes even then she's scared to say it out loud. She still refers to them by name, even feeling a sense of nervousness to ever try and include herself. The Cross Brothers and...sister doesn't have a good ring to it. The Cross Siblings sounds just as strange. So, Rory respects what always was. What always existed before her, and something she's convinced herself she remains on the outside of. "You're a good friend too." but then that feels strange to say and Rory grimaces. "Brother friend, sorta thing. That's where I was going with that."
Rory sinks against a tree, her whole body becoming heavy in that moment but she can't shrink and tuck her knees to her chest like she wants to. The stupid fall only allows her to stretch them out in front of her as she listens to Elliot's words, a deeper understanding between them and how their glasses always seem half full. "Yeah exactly that. Everything I've ever tried hasn't worked out or it's...literally exploded in my face so...I decided to listen when the universe tells me to sit the fuck down." she laughs about it because it's better than the alternative of letting all the emotion drain from her face like it does before she sleeps at night. She nods about Wolf, who's somehow cornered her into this situation. "I think he knows I'd not say no because I feel like dog shit about the run. He's real sneaky when he wants to be." she chuckles warmly about the eldest, feeling a lift of warmth that there's obviously a part of him that believes in her. But, that lift threatens a fall when she ultimately disappoints him. "What do you like...actually do?" Rory frowns slightly as she glances to Elliot. "Like is it literal fighting? Or just...man, I am gonna suck Elliot. I'd rather you were with me first 'cause I think Ryan would make jokes about it for weeks." she laughs and then sighs, flopping her head back to the tree next. She can't help but smile about Isla and Elliot being together again, a sort of fairytale happening in front of them all and at a time like this, it's enough to uplift everybody. "I'm glad she's back too, and not just 'cause she cooks good."

(Kɪᴍ Nᴀᴍᴊᴏᴏɴ-Wᴇʀᴇᴡᴏʟғ)
Chapter one
Ragged breathing and staggered footsteps. Blood stained clothes and the crunching of leaves. To say you were hurt and tired was an understatement. In all honesty, you were dying and you knew that. It had been hours since you were left alone in the dark forest as punishment for not being able to shoot a rabbit correctly. But how could you?
Wasn't it wrong to expect something like that from someone who loved the forest and all its inhabitants?
Nope, not in your house. Being the daughter of a rich man who was a member of the council, which was responsible for keeping the communities together, had its perks. But those perks meant nothing in comparison to the disadvantages that came with it. One of them being your inability to choose your life partner. That has to be the worst thing that a person could deal with. And before you knew it, you were already betrothed to Noah Silva, one of the officials who represented the humans at the council.
Noah was a kind man, or so you had thought until he told you one night that it was just a show. Your father was one of the six core members who sat on the council. Obviously, Noah wanted to be close to him and marrying you was just one way of doing that. He always behaved like a gentleman in front of your family but to you, he was a monster. A cold-hearted monster. If someone thought that werewolves were cold-hearted, they obviously hadn't met Noah. All the weeks since knowing your fiancé, you had tasted hell at it's finest. He had trapped you again and again just to let your father know that Noah was the only man who would ever be with you considering your irresponsible behaviour. One of those traps had made an unwanted appearance today when he left you in the forest all alone just because you couldn't shoot a rabbit with an arrow. Noah's whines and hissing while you cried and trembled further proved that he really didn't care. If anything, he enjoyed your suffering and it frightened you that you were meant to marry him in some months.
You yelped and fell against a tree, your clothed back rubbing against its rough bark. The dried tears on your cheeks made your face feel more grimy and dirty. You were sure that you had lost your way even after knowing the forest like the back of your hand. It was probably because of all the blood you were losing. You scowled at Noah, gritting your teeth at the memory of being thrown to the ground like trash when a pointed rock had cut through the skin on your upper arm. It was a rather deep wound and if you didn't find a way home then you would definitely bleed out. Or be eaten by the animals. Who knows.
The hopes that you had, of your father finding you had been lost hours ago, the realisation of Noah's nasty lies hitting you like a bullet. He probably told your father that you had run away or something. And knowing your father, he must be beyond angry at you. You sighed and looked up at the sky, relishing in the cool air that fanned your face.
Life was hard, that was a given. Even after being the perfect daughter, you didn't get any kind of love from your family. They all were just power hungry, neglecting you for whatever fortune was thrown their way. There had been times when you wanted to run away, leave behind the stupid family you had. Maybe you could have found someone who loved you for you.
You flinched suddenly as loud howls rang through the forest, your eyes darting to the moon which shone brightly in its entirety.
Full moon night.
Hunting night.
You widened your eyes and your throat ran dry. It was the hunting night for the werewolf community. Which meant you were definitely gonna die. It was a law that all humans were to stay in their houses during this night, and if any human failed to abide by the law then the werewolves were free to act however they see fit. Your worry was short-lived before it turned into full-fledged terror when you heard the sound of rustling from the bushes situated a few metres away from you. Sweat trickled down your forehead as you waited with bated breath, wanting nothing more than to run away. And there it was. Through the darkness and the shallow light of the moon falling on the bushes, emerged a beautiful brown wolf. Its eyes were almost golden, its fur shining and making you think about how smooth it must be. Even though it looked magnificent, you shivered on seeing the bared teeth, snarling at you as if it were ready to pounce. You whimpered and pushed yourself further up against the bark of the tree, slowly shaking your head and hoping that it would leave you alone.Just for a second, it seemed as though the wolf had heard your pleas, its eyes softening enough to make you think that maybe you weren't dying tonight. But it went away just as it came, a loud growl erupting from its throat before it pounced on you. You let out a loud scream and covered your face, not wanting to face your fate. If this is what dying felt like, then you certainly didn't mind cause there was absolutely no pain. It felt as if you hadn't even been touch-
Slowly taking away your hand from your face, you peered at the wolf whose face was now inches away from yours. Its eyes glaring at you with such intensity that you wanted to faint. As if on cue, your head began spinning and your vision became blurry. You stiffened as the werewolf sniffed your wound, your eyes fighting to stay open. If you were really passing out then maybe it was a good thing. The werewolf could eat you up without making you suffer, not like you wanted to live anyway. You found all your energy being drained away, your body falling limp and your eyes drooping slowly but you could still see the werewolf. You could still see its eyes widen. You could still see how sad it looked and you wondered why. If anything, you should have been dead by now. After all, you had broken the law and the werewolf could do whatever it wanted to do. As you closed your eyes and succumbed to the darkness, the last thing you heard was a whisper of your name. "Y/N....." ___________________________________________ You woke up to the feeling of someone touching your arm. You simply hummed and thought it was one of the maidens that worked in your house until a sharp pain shot through your arm. You jolted up with your eyes wide, gasping for air when you continued to feel the stinging in your arm.
"I knew it was too strong for a human."
A soft voice made you look to the side where a young woman sat, wearing a pair of thick rimmed glasses with a jar in one hand. You frowned and tilted your head, your eyes battling between the jar and her face until the realisation dawned on you. With wide eyes you glanced around the room, taking in a sharp breath on seeing all the unfamiliar colours and furnitures.
"Wh-where am I?" You asked, wincing at how dry your throat felt. The young woman grabbed a glass from the side table and handed it to you, noticing your hesitation on seeing the greenish liquid.
"It'll make you feel better, I promise." She smiled, making you nod. The genuineness in her eyes made it easier for you to believe her so you took the glass from her and brought it to your lips, your eyes fixed on her form.
As soon as the liquid touched your tongue, your eyes screwed shut and you spat it out, a number of coughs following after. "Guess that's not for humans either...." You heard her say as she grabbed the glass from you. What did that even mean? You continued to cough, gagging occasionally to get rid of the rotten taste left behind in your mouth. Eventually, a glass of water was handed to you and you gladly accepted it, gulping down everything all at once. With a sigh, you closed your eyes and rested your back on the headboard, feeling someone take the empty glass from you. Assuming that it was the same young lady, you opened your eyes and proceeded to say thank you until your eyes met his.
Kim Namjoon.
The alpha.
Fear struck you at lightning speed, your brain screaming at you to run away. But you didn't. You couldn't. It was as if his eyes were pinning you down. If anything, you felt smaller under his gaze. "Isla, I told you she's a human. What were you thinking?" He said in a stern voice, his eyes moving away from you. You let out a huge sigh of relief, internally, of course. You peered at the woman, feeling a little bad that she was probably never gonna hear the end of it but she did make you suffer.
"I have never treated a human. Can't really blame me, Joon." She replied, rolling her eyes while yours widened. Why was she talking to him like that?
You were always told that Kim Namjoon was sadistic and that he was beyond selfish. Whatever fit his needs had to be done, no matter the consequences that others might have to face. He was good looking, of course but you knew looks could be deceiving. You had experienced it all with Noah.
"I'll change her bandages, you can go."
You snapped out of your thoughts when you heard his voice, swallowing thickly when 'Isla' left you alone with him. Your heart started beating faster as he came and sat on the chair beside the bed, inspecting all the medicines and ointments that were laid out in front of him. You eyed his every move, preparing yourself to make a run for it in case he showed repulsive behaviour. "If I was gonna kill you, I would have done that when I saw you in the forest yesterday." He stated, as if reading your thoughts. Your eyes widened and you stared at him in amusement. Could werewolves read minds too?
"Ho-how do you know what I was thinking?" You asked, your voice laced with astonishment. Namjoon chuckled, shaking his head as he continued to look through all the medications. "Your expression, doll. It looks as if you've just been told about your execution." You almost blushed at his sentence, surprised at his use of the nickname. Nobody had ever called you that, or let alone any nickname. You took your time to take in Namjoon's appearance, coming to the conclusion that he looked like a God. A God who was supposedly bad. Whilst you were so busy checking him out, you failed to notice how he was already changing your bandage. A sudden sting to your wound made you hiss and you pulled your hand back. But Namjoon's grip on your forearm stopped you, his eyes shooting up to meet yours.
"It'll be over before you know it..." He said, his voice as gentle as a feather. You hesitantly gave up and let him treat your wound, occasionally hissing and flinching as he wrapped a new bandage around it.
It was strange but you certainly felt it. Just for a moment, it seemed as though your heart fluttered. As though you felt a spark when Kim Namjoon touched you. You knew it was different because you never felt this way with Noah.
Was it just gratefulness for a person who saved you?
Or was it your heart's way of saying that Noah is a mistake? You'll never know.
Namjoon stood up and proceeded towards leaving the room when you stopped him.
"Why didn't you kill me?"
Namjoon halted abruptly, not expecting this question at all. He swiftly turned on his heel to see a questioning frown on your face.
"Would you have preferred it that way?" He asked, tilting his head to the side.
You glanced at your hands, scoffing at the irony. This was where you were supposed to shake your head vigorously and say that you were thankful for not being killed. But you couldn't bring yourself to do any of that. It made you beyond upset to think about your pathetic life. A life that you didn't have any control over.
"I guess that would have been better." You mumbled, quickly wiping away a tear that had escaped your eye.
Namjoon saw it. He saw the helpless look on your face. You looked defeated and it pained him to see you like that. You didn't deserve this. A girl of your status should be happy and boastful. But you seemed to be the complete opposite. Sad and quiet. Namjoon quickly walked back to you, sitting on the chair where he was sitting just a minute ago.
"Why were you out there on hunting night, Y/N?" He asked, determined to know why you were there. Your breath hitched on hearing his words, not knowing if you should tell him about your problems or not. Because obviously you will have to go back home, and if your father found out what you had done, then it was gonna be the end for you.
"I won't tell anyone, if that's what you're worried about. I'm just as powerful as your father, you know." Namjoon answered, leaning closer to you. You knew he was right. Namjoon was also one of the six core members of the council. He represented all the werewolves and he was also the ultimate alpha. So he was actually a little more powerful than your father.
"I was left there as a p-punishment." You stated, clutching the sheets tightly. Namjoon raised his eyebrows, nodding at you to continue. You took a deep breath and decided to just let it all out.
"I failed to do something that my fiance wanted me to do so he left me there all alone. As punishment." You confessed, feeling all your anger piling up. You felt embarrassed for not being able to take a stand for yourself but in a society that didn't quite look at women as equals, it was hard for you to do anything.
Meanwhile, Namjoon thought this was absurd. No man had the right to treat any woman like that. And more over, you were his fiancee. He was supposed to treat you like a goddess.
"And who is this fiancé?" He asked, gritting his teeth but you didn't notice.
"Noah Silva." You mumbled.
Within seconds, Namjoon found himself fuming with anger. Noah Silva was a pathetic man. Namjoon knew him all too well. He had no respect for anyone and said whatever came to his mind. It was honestly a blessing that Noah wasn't one of the six core members. Cause if that happened, then the whole country would be a mess. There would be no sense of peace between the witches, the werewolves and the humans. It would be a chaos. Without a word, Namjoon stood up and left the room, leaving you confused. Maybe he thought you deserved it. Maybe he was exactly the Kim Namjoon that everyone thought him to be. It would be a while till you found out. ___________________________________________ You sighed and smoothed your dress, feeling good now that you were all cleaned up. Surprisingly, the dress fit you perfectly. As if it was made for you. It was dark green and reached your ankle. It was the type of dress that you had seen the richer people wearing. Of course, Kim Namjoon was rich. He had been on the council for a long time, unlike your father who acquired his position only a couple years ago. You wandered around the big mansion and adored the corridors, gaping at the beautiful walls. Your house was big too, but not as big as Namjoon's. You were trying to find your way to the dining room since Namjoon had asked you to join him for dinner.
The thought of seeing him again made you a little anxious but it also made you excited. Yes, it was a little weird when he just stormed out of your room after you told him who your fiancé was. Maybe they were sworn enemies? Well, too bad for you.
After a few more minutes, you managed to find the dining room, happily skipping towards the long table. You saw Namjoon seated at one end and slowly walked towards him, smiling at him when he saw you. You sat on the chair beside him, clearing your throat and mentally yelling at your heart to calm down.
"The dress suits you." Namjoon complimented, noticing the way your eyes widened momentarily. It was an adorable sight, he thought. You glanced down in your lap, hiding the blush that was creeping across your cheeks.
"Thank you." You mumbled, biting your lip harshly. This wasn't something you were used to. Nobody had ever complimented you in your entire life, no matter how hard you tried. Your family didn't even give you a second glance, let alone Noah. Truth be told, you felt good being in Namjoon's company. He made you feel like a woman, not a slave. Soon the food was served and you ate it all at a very impressive pace. Obviously, you were hungry.
"I forgot to ask, how long was I unconscious?" You asked, taking in the last bite. Namjoon looked up from his plate and narrowed his eyes, contemplating whether he should say it or not. But it had to be said.
"Four days."
You choked on your food and Namjoon quickly handed you a glass of water, rubbing your back soothingly. Once you had gulped it all down, Namjoon shook his head. "You okay?" He questioned, giving you concerned looks. You nodded slowly, getting lost in your own thoughts. It had been four days and no one had come looking for you? Wow, they really didn't care, did they?
"No one came looking for me?" You asked, praying for Namjoon to tell you that you were wrong but the guilty look in his eyes told you everything. You chuckled bitterly to yourself. Tragedy was the only way to describe your life.
Noticing how your mood changed, Namjoon decided to do something. He wasn't just gonna sit and watch you sulk around. He was the one who had to take care of you anyway.
"Come with me."
You looked up at Namjoon to find him leaving the dining room already. Hurriedly, you got out of your seat and followed him, wondering where he was taking you. You walked behind him, observing your surroundings curiously. You stepped out of his mansion, making your curiosity grow bigger and bigger.
"Where...."
Before you could complete your sentence, there it was. A small lake in the middle of a bunch of trees with flowers floating across it's surface. You gasped at the sight, marvelling at how the moonlight only made it prettier.
"No one knows about this place. It's like my personal....haven." Namjoon said, sitting on the grass surrounding the lake. You took a minute to admire the scenery, closing your eyes and feeling the cool air on your skin.
"It is stunning." You replied, smiling at the moon shining on you in all it's glory. Four days ago, this sight would have scared you but now, you felt so peaceful. Namjoon smiled slightly, taking pride in how happy you looked. Of course this was stunning. But for him, you were more stunning. For four days, you were the one who brought him a sense of calmness. Your face and the fact that you were alive kept him going. You were important to him. Too important.
"Do you believe in destiny, Y/N?" You turned your head to look at Namjoon, his eyes fixed on you. You clasped your hands behind you and moved closer to where he sat before sitting beside him. You pulled your knees up to your chest and hummed.
"I do. If it's meant to happen, it will happen." You answered, gazing at the night sky. Namjoon nodded, looking up at the stars.
"Do you know that my kind can know if someone's meant to be with us?" He asked again, making you frown in confusion. "As in, soulmates?" You raised an eyebrow as he nodded. You looked surprised before a smile graced your lips. "Have you found your mate?" You asked, getting excited at the thought. How interesting. Only if humans could know that too.
"I did. Four days ago." Namjoon answered, watching you intently. He didn't mean to break the news to you all of a sudden but he couldn't help himself. You were just so nice. He couldn't let you go back to your stupid fiance who didn't know how to take care of you.
You stared at him in confusion before it struck you.
Four days ago.
You met him.
"Are you serious?"
Namjoon couldn't judge from your expression if you liked this news or not. He couldn't tell how you felt. You just looked....lost?
"You can reject me if you want." He said, hoping that you don't listen to him. He already felt a strong bond with you. But obviously, it wasn't necessary that you felt it too. You could reject him and he would continue his life thinking about how his mate didn't want him.
"You won't hurt me like Noah, would you?" You asked, gazing at him with glossy eyes. The thought of being loved was making you feel overwhelmed. You knew Namjoon wasn't a bad person. He was better than your entire family. Why else would he have saved you and looked after you for four days? That was a long time, given the fact that lately the ties between the humans and the werewolves weren't as good as before. You somehow knew that Namjoon wasn't gonna hurt you. The spark you had felt earlier was a sign too. He was telling you nothing but the truth.
"Never." He answered and caressed your cheek, looking into your eyes as if they held all the stars. You felt beautiful in that moment. He made you feel beautiful.
"There's a ball tomorrow. It's a tradition and it's held every year. If you come, I'll know your answer. But if you don't...." Namjoon trailed off, looking away with sad eyes. He stood up and headed back into the mansion, leaving you to think this through. It had been only one day since you started talking to him. But you knew he was good. And if he really wanted to hurt you, he would have done it already. You sighed and closed your eyes. What should you do? Give him a chance? Or just go on living your terrible life?

After the Nightmare: Waking Up
Well. I couldn’t help it. Another shorty.
References to: some dialogue and the night before
ao3
--
Waking was slow.
Isla didn’t want to open her eyes just yet; they were heavy and the blanket wrapped around her felt warm. The dream she’d woken up from was the kind she wanted to dip back into, a soft kind of rumination meant to be explored.
She felt a breath on her face.
What?
Her eyes snapped open.  Solas was holding her, pressed close like they had been tied together. The arm under her neck reached up to cradle her shoulder, the other tucked around her waist. She felt her eyes go wide. Solas?
A memory of the night before came back to her. The child on the road to Redcliffe, the nightmare, waking up to Solas holding her like he was now. The way he rubbed her back, whispering comforting words until she fell asleep again. She had been crying. Mamae.
And now he held her. Her heart thrummed. She inhaled, savoring the musk that she had scarcely had the opportunity to experience before this.
She used the arm available to her to prod his arm.
“Solas?”
He mumbled incoherently, shifting slightly. Still sleeping, he pressed his lips to her forehead and sighed.
Dread Wolf take me, Isla thought, compelling herself not to laugh aloud at the ease of his intimacy in sleep.
“Solas,” she tried again, “Solas, wake up.”
He did. He looked down at her.
“On dhea, da’mis,” he murmured, turning slightly away from her as he gained consciousness, “Did you sleep well?”
“Yes, ma serranas, hahren,” she said.
“Ma nuvenin. It was no trouble.”
Lips pursed slightly, he raised a hand to touch the scar on her face, letting his index finger graze it for a moment before he pulled away.
They rose and readied for the day with the others. Solas helped one of the scouts make coffee while Isla and Sera caught and skinned a hare for their morning meal. Bull sharpened his greataxe methodically as the sun peaked above the hills.
Leaving camp, a genuine grin spread across Isla’s face.
“What’re you smilin’ about, Elfy?” Sera asked, eyes narrowed, “Get some elven glory?”
“I would have told you,” Isla replied, turning to raise an eyebrow at her friend.
“Alright, alright. Why the grinnin' then, eh?”
Isla hopped and punched Sera in the arm before darting off ahead.
“Just enjoying the morning!” She called behind her.
Sera ran to catch her, cursing Isla up the hill.
--
Behind them, Bull and Solas kept a steady pace.
“Boss is feeling better,” Bull said, his tone matter-of-fact.
“Indeed.”
“You had a hand in that?”
“Yes,” Solas said, his expression solemn, “The Inquisitor was deeply affected by the child we met yesterday.”
Bull considered him.
“Still the Inquisitor, eh?”
“She is our leader. She has earned the title, and the respect that comes with it.”
“Uh huh.”
The morning air felt crisp, dew still dripping on the grass around them.
Solas watched her run the path. The scar on her face, a wound still healing. He could feel it on his fingertips. Following her onward, he flexed his hand.
Isla.

Da'mis: little blade. Term of endearment used by an elder to a hunter who is stubborn, and acts regardless of consequence. On dhea: good morning Ma serranas: thank you Ma nuvenin: you're welcome / of course

“Maybe I prefer to be the one keeping people on their toes,” Kat replies with a slight twitch of her lip. She knows she’s changed in many ways, being a mother shifted her entire world, but she’s still Kat. A slight smile dances across her face. “It is dull, but,” she gestures between them, “I’ve come up in the world,” she laughs, breath escaping in a cloud. “Watch without a babysitter? I call that progress. Unless,” her gaze narrows on him playfully, “you’re actually a plant and gonna report back?” Even if he’s not, she lifts her shoulders. “Well, my opinion is Hunt would say I belong in a kitchen and Wolf lets me be here. The math does itself.” She would’ve preferred not fighting for something so small, but she’s proud she stood her ground to be on watch at all.
“You’re too literal,” Kat insists before Dominic moves and she freezes. “What are you–” she begins when he points his gun at the vampire and everything stills at their hiss. Kat hesitates for a moment. She steps out from behind the tree, gaze still locked on the vampire who'd been part of the attack. Her boots crunch to a halt a few feet away. There’s a moment when she hears Dominic's words, but they don’t quite sink in. All she can think of is how useless she’d felt holding the door back beside Carina and Isla. How her heart had thundered in her chest at the thought of anything happening to Jude. How small she’d felt.
Her gaze narrows and a slow burning anger bubbles up. She was more than what they’d made her feel that night. More than how she’s felt for a long time, stuck into molds others have put her in. She was capable. And she was more than a little pissed. A surge of adrenaline propels her forward and her fist connects with their blood-stained face. Again and again and again. She’d been scared that nigh, terrified for Jude. Her little boy. She knows what this leech would’ve done if he'd had the chance. So her fists fly free. Her hair a wild mane around her, a cloud of fury as she attacks the vampire. He would've killed her son. The thought repeats with each hit. It doesn't matter how much she's fought it, that familiar Anderson rage, her father's rage, is as much part of her as ever. It no longer simmers beneath the surface as, with each hit, it finally breaks free.
'oh come on, i thought you liked being kept on your toes?' dominic scoffs playfully at her. but he realizes he could have read kat anderson wrong, and perhaps stability was more comforting in the end. 'too smart for any of it. the whole can't fight if you got a kid thing. and all that cooking and cleaning. seems dull.' and kat isn't dull. he can only offer a shrug of a shoulder, as their worlds may as well be opposite even if there were ways they could overlap so easily. dominic has never been in a cage, a whole city was treated like his playground. but he bites his tongue with the words he wants to say. especially when it comes to wolf and he chuckles instead. 'think there's a few wolves who have some opinions about that.' he means hunter again but he can't deny that the cross has a certain way of being able to predict things, even the thoughts of others. if hunter thinks something, there's probably other wolves there thinking the same thing.
Tumblr media
there's another scoff to her, still playful but it's faint as they navigate through the trees. 'well, you worded it like a question. just so you know.' he answers in an amused mutter, sensing the roll of her eyes and refraining from mimicking it with his own. but he looks between the scene before them, eyes trailing back to kat. dom notices the recollection happening through her thoughts and a slight frown tugs his lips. he glances back to the bloodied vampire and half dead human when she answers, a slow nod of his head to show he's heard her. because he's heard about the full moon too, along with the rest of the town. the tension that's followed since and the uncomfortable reality of sharing a space with the vermin vampires. so, it only takes dominic a few seconds to consider his next action. 'okay.' is all he answers to kat, continuing behind the shelter of trees until he can appear from the shadows and stop the vampire in it's path. his gun is raised, pointed right at it's head, bringing out a ferocious hiss of warning. 'yeah, that isn't as scary as you think it is.' he addresses dryly, before glancing to the tree kat's behind with a nod of his head. 'come on, come give this fucker a taste of it's own medicine.'

"How much longer until we get there?" You laid your head on the window, watching the scenery and snowflakes fly by as the car sped down the highway. Mountains lined the horizon, the sun casting brilliant orange and pink light behind them. You and Daniel were currently driving to his family's home town, making the 15 hour trip there on wheels.
Daniel let out a chuckle, one hand lazily resting on your thigh, his eyes trained on the road. "Maybe another half hour, love. We're almost there." He replied. You laced your fingers with his, smiling at him.
"So how do you like Oregon so far?"
"It's pretty." You say, turning back to the window. "Can we go for a hike sometime soon?"
"Definitely. Are you sure you'll be able to keep up with me, though?" He replied teasingly, making you scoff. "Just because I'm human doesn't mean I can't handle a little bit of exercise." He brought your intertwined hands up to his lips, planting a kiss on yours. "Sure you can." He chuckled, "Oh look! We're here."
Daniel turned to the left, driving into a small town. The buildings were very spread out, miles of forest behind them. Piles of snow lined the streets, a few people walking by here and there. The car came to a stop at a red light. "This is the town I grew up in." He said, breaking the silence. You smiled, looking through the windows at the location. "It's cozy." You replied as Daniel kept driving, the light now green. "God, it's been so long. You're gonna love it here, I promise."
You had just finished your current semester of school, so you were spending a month with Daniel in his home town for winter break. He drove down the road, houses looming in the distance. At the end of the path stood one house which towered over the others, brightness streaming out of all the windows. The sun was long gone, street lamps illuminated the pavement with soft yellow light. Daniel pulled up to said house, parking in the long driveway behind many other vehicles. "Ready?" He asked, his blue eyes bright with excitement and joy. You smiled, nodding in response. "As ready as I'll ever be."
"Well, come on now. Mom said to just come in, some servants will be out soon to take our stuff in." He said, taking his seat belt off.
"Servants?" You asked as you clicked the red button to your left, letting the polyester strap slide off of your body.
He nodded, confused at your confusion. "It's a normal thing? This is the pack house, where most of the leaders and their families live. So yeah, servants."
"Oh. So I'm guessing your family is..."
"My dad's the alpha." He said casually, opening the door.
Oh-
"T-that's cool." You stutter, getting out of the car and closing the door behind you.
Daniel started walking to the house, and you followed close behind. He waltzed right into the door, a wide grin on his face.
The house was very open, but cozy. To the left was the kitchen, where a few older ladies were bustling around cooking. To the right was a large staircase, spiraling up to the second floor. Children ran around the space, chasing each other through the halls. The soft hum of chatter and laughter filled the room. The room opened up ahead, couches positioned in a U-shape around a large flat screen TV. A few people sat there, deep in conversation. Large windows took the place of the back wall, revealing the midnight blue sky and silhouettes of the trees and mountains.
"I'm home!" Daniel announced loudly, smiling.
"Daniel?"
"Daniel!"
A swarm of people surrounded the two of you as you closed the heavy front door behind you. An older woman pulled him into a hug, planting a kiss on his cheek. "I missed you." She said, a smile tugging at her lips.
"I missed you too, mom."
"Did you bring a human with you?" A man asked suddenly, the room falling silent.
"Erm...yeah." Daniel grabbed your hand and pulled you closer to his body. "This is my mate, Y/N."
"Mate?"
"I thought his mate was that wolf he brought back last time. Charlotte, I think-"
"How did you know I'm human?" You asked.
The man chuckled, the deep sound filling the room. "Your scent, dear. It's quite easy to tell." His voice was stern, but his blue eyes were bright with amusement.
"Dad, stop teasing her!" Daniel groaned.
"Alright, alright. Come on everyone, let's give the couple some space." He said with a smile. The crowd slowly dispersed, only two people were left besides you and Daniel.
"It's nice to meet you, Y/N. Daniel has said many good things about you." Daniel's mom said with a smile.
"It's nice to meet you too, Mrs. Seavey." You replied, returning the smile.
"Please, call me Keri." She said, giving you a quick hug. "I'll be in the kitchen making dinner if you need me. You'll be staying in Daniel's old room, and all of your things should already be there."
"Thanks mom." He said as she walked off.
"Danny!" A small figure hurled at him, landing in his arms.
A tiny girl, no older than ten hugged his torso tight as he spun her around in circles. "Reese! You've gotten so big." He said with a laugh, holding her.
"I grew 3 inches!" She said to him, holding out three fingers. "I even changed into my wolf yesterday!"
"Oh really? Congrats!"
You smiled at the sight of Daniel and Reese, stepping back to give them space.
"Who's that?" She asked, pointing at you.
"That's my mate, Y/N."
She stuck her tongue out at you and turned back to him. "Why is she human?"
"What do you mean?"
"Why isn't she a wolf too?"
"She's just...a little different."
"Oh."
Well, isn't that reassuring.
"Mhm. She's like Aunt Keri."
Reese nodded thoughtfully, her face contorting into a serious expression. "Interesting."
Daniel chuckled, setting her back down on her feet. "Why don't you go play with Isla and Svea? Y/N and I still need to unpack."
"You're staying?" She asked excitedly, her eyes lighting up.
"Yep! For a whole month."
"Yay! Come play with us when you're done, okay?"
"I will, Reese. Now come on, they're probably waiting for you."
"Bye Danny!" She ran off with a smile on her face.
Daniel is so good with kids.
You couldn't keep the smile off of your face as you watched him usher her away.
He sighed, turning back towards you. "What?"
"What? Oh- nothing." You reply, your cheeks red with embarrassment.
"I know that look, Y/N." He said as you followed him up the stairs.
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"Oh, come on Y/N. Don't deny it. What were you thinking about?" He pressed as you walked up to the third floor and down the hall. He walked past the rows of doors and windows before stopping in front of a door at the end of the corridor. He grasped the gold handle in his right hand, pushing the door open with ease. "I was just thinking." You replied as you walked in close behind him.
"Ah, exactly the way I left it." The spacious room was painted blue, a city skyline painted on one wall. A large bed was pushed to one side, a desk to the other. Two large windows let in some moonlight, illuminating the room with pale light. By the desk were rows of instruments, a microphone, and speakers, almost identical to his musical set-up at your house in LA. Daniel flopped down on the bed face first, letting out a loud, happy sigh.
“Come lay with me.”
You walked over to the bed, laying down next to him. He turned his face so that he was no longer facing the sheets and smiled at you.
“Don’t we have to unpack?” You asked, giggling. He pulled you onto his chest, wrapping his long arms around your waist. “We have time.” He replied, burying his head in your hair. “Let me spend time with my mate first.”
You smiled, drawing lazy circles on his shoulder.
“What’s it like being a werewolf?” You asked curiously after a brief moment of silence.
He stayed silent for a while, thinking. “It’s hard to explain.” He replied, “I guess it’s kind of like having a voice in your head that’s telling you what to do.” He laughed. “Oh, and the wolf thing. I don’t think I’d ever be able to explain that.”
You giggled, placing a small kiss on his cheek. “It’s okay if you can’t explain it, Danny. I just wanna get to know this side of you better.”
He nodded, drawing you closer.
Silence filled the room again, until you spoke up suddenly.
“What does it feel like to have a mate? In your perspective, I guess.”
“It’s the best feeling in the entire world.” He murmured, nipping at your ear with his teeth playfully. “But kind of annoying, at first.”
“What do you mean?”
“Having to wait so long, watching you date other people, not being able to be as close as I wanted to be for so long. God, seeing you with your scumbag ex made me almost lose it.” He let out a low growl. “I’m glad he left. Since you’re my mate, I can feel your feelings too. I could sense you were miserable with him.” He explained, “When you’re sad, I’m sad. When you’re happy, I’m happy.”
“Is that supposed to happen to me too?”
He shook his head. “You’re human, so your soul won’t feel it the same way mine does.”
“Oh.” You mumbled. “I’m sorry I made you wait so long. I wish I knew.”
“It’s okay, baby.” He replied, “I’d wait a million years for you if I had to.”
You smiled, kissing his cheek lovingly.
A knock interrupted the moment, making Daniel sit up. “God dammit Jack. What do you want?”
“Wow, Hello to you too Daniel. Dinner is almost ready. Come downstairs when you’re done doing um...whatever you’re doing.” Jack said with a chuckle, closing the door and walking out.
Daniel groaned, laying back down next to you. “I don’t wanna go all the way back downstairs. I wanna say with you.” He whined, playing with your hair.
You laughed, sitting up. “Come on, Danny. We should get ready and go.” He pouted and sat up.
“Fine, whatever.”
~~~
“She’s a quiet one. Now if Charlotte were here-“
“Myta, don’t tease her.”
“Y/N is just a little shy, that’s all.” Daniel said, standing up for you.
You sat at the large, round dining table, slowly eating your food as the families around you discussed whatever was on their minds.
“So when are you two going to have pups?”
You stopped eating immediately, almost choking.
“Dad!”
“You know, when your mother and I were your age we-“
Zach cleared his throat, stopping Daniel’s father mid-sentence.
“I’m sorry for interrupting you Alpha, but we’re trying to eat? I’d rather not talk about babies right now.”
“I agree with Zach. Luna makes good food.” Jack said, his mouth full.
Daniel put his hand on your thigh, rubbing small circles into your skin with his thumb.
“Are you alright?” He whispered to you, concern lacing his tone. You nodded in response, sending him a small smile. “Yeah.” You replied softly, lacing your fingers with his. He gave you a smile back, rejoining the conversation his parents were having.
“Are Corbyn and Christina coming soon?” Jonah asked, looking over at you from across the table.
“Yep, she texted me earlier. They’re driving up now.” You replied with a smile.
“Corbyn and Christina are your friends from LA right?” Keri asked. The boys nodded.
“Oh, Corbyn isn’t apart of your pack?” You asked curiously.
Daniel shook his head. “He’s from a pack in Virginia. We met him in LA.”
“Ohhh okay.”
The room filled with the comfortable hum of chatter as you all finished your meals with no further interruptions.
“Anyone want dessert?”
~~~
You sat in front of a ceiling-high window in the living room, a cup of tea from Keri in your hands as you gazed up at the stars. Everyone else had gone off to their rooms, resting for the day ahead. You, on the other hand, couldn’t sleep. You had gone out of Daniel’s room and went downstairs, where Keri found you. She was just about to head upstairs so she made ginger lemon tea for you to try to help your restlessness.
Maybe it was the change in time, keeping you awake or the occasional howls from the wolves outside, but it was mostly your thoughts keeping you awake.
Would they like me more if I was a werewolf?
Who is Charlotte? Would Daniel have ended up with her if he didn’t meet me?
“Couldn’t sleep, huh?” A voice sounded behind you, making you jump. You turned to find Daniel walking towards you, his face contorting with concern.
You shook your head as he sat down next to you, draping a plush blanket over your shoulders.
“No. How’d you know?”
He chuckled, wrapping his arms around your waist.
“I can feel when you’re not near me. Oh, and mom told me on her way to her room.”
You leaned into his chest, warmth radiating off of him. You took a small sip from the mug in your hands.
“Why couldn’t you sleep?”
You shrugged in response, your eyes drawing back towards the scenery outside.
He sighed, the moonlight making his blue eyes twinkle. “Come on, babe. You can talk to me.”
You shook your head, looking back up at him. “I was just...thinking. I’m not used to this whole werewolf thing yet, I guess.”
“Oh.” He mumbled, rubbing his neck awkwardly. “I know, it’s a little weird at first. You don’t have to stay the whole time with me if you’re uncomfortable.”
“No, no it’s fine. I just need a little time to get used to it.” You said with a smile.
“Okay.” He said, returning the smile with a toothy grin of his own. “Nothing else is bothering you?”
“Nope.”
He sighed, the smile falling as soon as it appeared. “You’re lying.”
“What?”
“Y/N, you may be good at hiding it, but you’re not going to get anything past me.” He chuckled. “When you lie, your heart speeds up a couple beats and you bite your lip.”
“Oh.”
“Come on, you can tell me. Spit it out.”
“Who’s Charlotte?”
He froze, his tongue darting out and swiping across his lips. He looked down, taking your tiny hands in his large ones. “She...was a friend. We were really close, and everyone thought we were mates, or that at least we’d end up together. Then I found out she was only close to me because she wanted to be Luna.” He blurted out, “She only talked to me because of my status. I ditched her a long time ago and haven’t seen her since.”
“I’m sorry I asked.”
“It’s fine Y/N.” He pulled you closer and placed a soft kiss on your forehead. “Lets go to bed now, yeah?”
You nodded, letting out a small yawn.
“Alright. Come on, sleepy.”
~~~
The next few days were quite uneventful, full of small conversations with family and watching Daniel train with the boys. You sat at the side of the field with Christina, watching as they playfully tackled each other.
“Daniel! Don’t hit me I’m wEAK-“
He laughed, running at Jack. “You’re not weak, Beta.”
“I’m weak compared to you, so sToP!”
“Cheeseitz, they’re so aggressive.” You said, shivering as snowflakes started falling from the light gray sky.
“Well duh, they’re werewolves.” Christina said with a chuckle, “You should see them when they’re actually being serious.”
Daniel grabbed onto Jack, pinning him down on the snow covered ground.
“Jonah! Help please.”
The older boy swooped in, pulling the curly-haired boy from Daniel’s grasp.
“Hey! Not fair.” He groaned, getting up.
Corbyn scribbled something down on his clipboard before walking over to the three boys. “Actually, very fair. You’re stronger than both of them combined, future Alpha. See, your endurance...” They continued talking about stats, looking over whatever data was written on the papers in Corbyn’s hands.
“Alpha?” You asked Christina.
She nodded. “You didn’t know Daniel was an Alpha?”
You shook your head. “I don’t think he’s ever mentioned it, besides the fact that his dad is one.”
“He’s always been so self conscious of his status.” Christina said. “We should go inside, it’s snowing harder and our puny human bodies can only last so long in the cold.” She joked, “I can tell you more about it inside.”
“Yeah, let’s go inside, I’m freezing.”
You walked inside with her, slowly peeling off layers of jackets the second you got inside and closed the glass door.
“So, what do you want to know?” Christina asked as you both sat down in the living room.
“Everything.”
~~~
“Wait wait wait. So you’re saying I have to-“
“Whatcha two talking about?” Daniel walked in, wrapping his arms around you as he sat down next to you.
“Not much.” Christina said with a smile. “Oh look, Corbyn needs me. I’ll be back.” She got up and walked out of the living room, leaving you two alone.
“You’re sweaty.”
Daniel laughed, rubbing his cheek on your shoulder. “I’ll rub my sweat all over you then.”
“Ew! Go shower.” You giggled, pushing him away playfully. He pinned your hands above you and peppered kisses all over your face.
“You’re not getting away from me anytime soon.”
He pulled you into a tight hug, wrapping his limbs around your torso, his dripping hair and neck up against your chest.
“Hey, Daniel?” A servant walked in, his tone urgent.
“Yes? What is it?” He looked up, slightly annoyed.
“It’s your father.”
The annoyance went away quickly and he got up from the ground.
“Please, follow me.” The servant walked out of the room and down the hall, Daniel close behind. You got up, curiously following them slowly.
“-yes, it’s very bad. The healers might not be able to do much this time, Alpha.”
“Don’t call me that. He’ll be fine, we have the best healers here.” The door closed, their conversation now muffled. You slipped in, closing the door behind you. Daniel’s father lay in a bed in the middle of the room, his eyes closed and his skin papery and pale. Keri sat next to the bed, her hand in her husband’s, a grim look on her face. Daniel sat at her feet, his head in her lap. Doctors and servants rushed around the room silently, the only sound came from the beeping of the heart monitor in the corner of the room.
Keri looked up at you and gave you a small smile. As you walked over to them. You sat down behind Daniel, wrapping your around around him.
“Is he going to be okay?” You muttered, concerned. Keri shook her head and let out a sigh. “No.” She replied sadly, “Jeff is strong, but he’s an elder wolf and has had too much contact with silver over the years. He’s a bit weak and won’t recover for a while.”
Daniel turned around, burying his face in your shoulder, his tears leaving stains on your shirt. “I don’t want him to go.” he mumbled.
“It’ll be alright,” you cooed into his ear softly, massaging his scalp with your fingers. “He’ll live, I promise.”
Keri looked down at her son with sad eyes. She looked as if she wanted to say something, but she kept her mouth shut. Her eyes drifted back to her husband.
A doctor walked over to you and Daniel and nudged your shoulder lightly. “You two should go.” He said, “Daniel needs some sleep, and it’s getting late.”
You nodded, getting up. Daniel got up with you, his movements sluggish as you walked him upstairs and to his bedroom. He stumbled into the room and collapsed on the bed as you closed the door. He looked over at you, his once bright eyes now a dull blue.
“Come here.”
You walked over to him and sat on the bed next to him. “Are you okay?” You asked, playing with a lock of his hair.
He shook his head.
“You know, your dad is in good hands. He won’t-“
“You’d think I’d know that, I lived here for 18 years. It’s not that.”
“Then what’s wrong?”
He shook his head again and took your small hand in his larger one. “Can you run me a bath, please?” He mumbled, “Like back in LA?”
You nodded, pulling him to his feet. “But talk to me, please? I can’t help you if I don’t know what you’re thinking.”
“Oh yeah, you’re not a wolf.” He muttered. “Fine.”
You frowned at his comment but quickly pushed your feelings away.
“Come on, you glum chum. You’re still sweaty as fuck from earlier.”
You dragged him into the adjoined bathroom, turning on the lights as you walked in. He plopped down on the closed toilet, watching you as you prepared a bath for him.
You got up after getting it ready, waiting for the water to fill the porcelain tub.
“So are you going to tell me what’s wrong now?”
He pulled his shirt off of his body and shrugged. “I guess.”
You let out a sigh and hugged him, his arms wrapping around your thighs and his head resting against your stomach. He nuzzled into your shirt lovingly as you massaged his scalp. “It’s not necessarily the fact that my dad is injured. It’s happened loads of times, he’s a strong wolf and always recovers. Besides, he’s got another like 100 years to live.” He tugged at his socks and pulled them off, throwing them into a pile of dirty clothes nearby. “It’s just the fact that he’s not strong enough to lead the pack anymore. When he steps down, I have to take over. It’s stupid.” You pulled away from him and turned off the water, the bathtub now full. You mixed in some bath salts as Daniel peeled away his sweatpants and boxers. He sunk into the water, only his head and shoulders sticking out. “Why don’t you want to take over the pack?” You asked as you sat down on the tile floor next to the tub. He sighed, leaning his head back on the wall. “Well first of all, we’d have to move here permanently and I know your family is in LA. Second of all, it’s so much work. I hate it. My stupid older brothers are off doing their own things so I’m stuck taking over the pack.” You frowned, pouring shampoo into your hand before lathering it into his wet hair.
“I know you don’t like it, but it’s your responsibility Daniel. How would your parents feel if you backed out?”
He stayed silent for a moment, thinking. He sighed, leaning into your hands as you washed his hair. “You’re right. I guess it’ll be fine.”
“You’re a natural leader, Danny. It really shouldn’t be too hard for you.” You rinsed the soap from his hair with water before getting up and retrieving a towel from the closet.
“Join me.” He said as you placed the towel on the counter.
You slowly stripped out of your clothes before stepping into the steaming water. You sat down on his thighs, pouring more soap into your hands and washing his body.
“You’re so spoiled.” You joked with a chuckle, running your hands over his chest.
“That’s only because people like spoiling me.” He replied, his eyes fluttering shut. “They just fall for my natural charm.”
“Yeah, sure.” You said, rubbing his arms, his biceps slightly bulging with muscle.
“Well you certainly did.” He said, his eyes opening again.
“That’s true.” You replied, “I guess you’re not that bad.”
He captured your lips with his, his arms around your waist. He pulled away, his eyes traveling up and down your body. “I’m glad you think so.” He mumbled, his eyes falling back on yours. He pulled you closer, chest on chest, your head on his shoulder.
“I’m gonna fill you up with my pups one day.” He muttered in your ear, his hand traveling down your back.
You felt your body heat up more despite the hot water surrounding you.
He chuckled, playing with a strand of hair that escaped your bun. “You’re so cute when you’re embarrassed.” He said, making you blush more. “Shut up.” He nipped at your neck playfully, his mouth suckling on your sweet skin.
“I love you.”
“I love you too, Danny.”
~~~
2 weeks had passed since you arrived, everything seemed to have fallen into routine. Daniel usually woke up hours before you, sitting with his father in the morning before training outside for the rest of the day. You did your best to be useful, both you and Christina helping Keri with whatever you could.
“You do know you’ll have to take my place soon, right?”
“Wait, I have to become Luna?”
“You’re Daniel’s mate, aren’t you?”
You nodded, playing with the hem of your sweater.
She let out a small sigh, giving you a look of sympathy. “I know it seems a bit daunting, but trust me, you’ll do great.”
You nodded again, trying your best to believe Keri’s words.
The door opened, revealing a shirtless Daniel. Sweat dripped down his neck, his hair a disheveled mess. You smiled at him as he walked towards you. “How was training?” You asked him.
He flopped onto the ground in front of you and Keri. “Tiring.” He mumbled, “Mommy can I have some food please?”
She nodded and walked to the kitchen, leaving you alone with him.
“Being an Alpha is so much work.” He groaned, turning to lay on his back.
You chuckled and sat on the floor next to him, petting his hair. “My big, strong Alpha. You should take a break.” You mumbled with a giggle. He let out a small purr, leaning into your touch.
“Stopppp.” He groaned, trying to pull away.
“Why? You obviously like it.”
“True.” He sighed, “but if you tell anyone, you’re dead. No one can see me like this but you, okay?”
“Okay.” You chuckled. He turned his head to the side and placed a small kiss on your hand.
“Come on, let’s go get food.” He said, hopping up. “I’m hungry.”
~~~
“Would we be different if I were a werewolf?”
It was a late night, and you couldn’t sleep once again. Moonlight pooled on the ground where you sat next to the bed. Daniel laid half-asleep on the mattress, barely paying attention to what you said.
“No.” He mumbled, his eyes fluttering shut. “I don’t think so.”
He reached out weakly towards you, hooking his finger onto yours. You looked away from the window and at him. He slept peacefully, tiny grunts and growls leaving his parted lips.
“I just-“ you heaved out a sigh. “I’m just a bit frustrated, I guess? Even though I’m not the only human, I know almost nothing about the culture and stuff. How am I going to be a Luna if I don’t even know the basics?” You groaned, “Half of them probably don’t even like me.”
Silence. You and your dumb ass, you shouldn’t have said anything.
“Come here.” He mumbled, tugging at your hand with his finger. As you got up, he pulled you onto the bed and into his arms, your head on his chest, a hand in your hair.
“I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be sorry, my love.” He whispered lovingly, nuzzling your cheek with his nose, just as he would in wolf form. “You’ll be great, I can feel it.”
“Yeah but-“
“No buts.” He mumbled into your ear, “if you’re still kind of iffy about it, you can talk to my mom. She was in the same situation as you are now.”
“Okay, I’ll talk to her tomorrow then.” You mumbled back, snuggling into his warmth. He smiled and kissed you softly. “I wish I could help you more, love, but I don’t know what it’s like being human.”
“It’s okay.” You smiled back, “we make it work.”
“Yeah, like always.” He said.
“Best friends against the world.” You replied with a grin.
“Of course.” He chuckled, nipping at your ear with his teeth. “Come on, my love, let’s go to sleep.”
~~~
The next day, you decided to talk to Keri while Daniel was out training yet again.
“Keri?”
“Yes, dear?”
“C-can you help me with something?”
She nodded and put her mug down. “Is something wrong?”
“No- well, yeah. I’m scared, and frustrated about this whole ‘becoming the Luna’ thing. Daniel said I should talk to you about it.”
“Ah, Daniel told me about that this morning. Why are you scared?”
“Well, I’m different. Do I really have what it takes? I mean, I barely know anything.”
“If it makes you feel better, I was in a similar situation as you’re in now. If you want, I can teach you everything you need to know.”
“Thank you, Keri.”
“Of course.” She smiled, “is that all that was bothering you?”
You shook your head. “Is there a way to turn into a werewolf?”
“Yes, but,” she sighed, “it’s extremely dangerous. If you want to become a werewolf, you need to be bitten by one on the full moon. Your body will end up rejecting it and you’ll die. Very few people survive torture like that.”
Well fuck, never mind.
“But I’m a human. Don’t they deserve a strong werewolf to take over as Luna?”
“Being a werewolf doesn’t make you a good leader. In fact, I’m human too.” She said with a chuckle, “I’ve seen you interact with the pack. You’ll be a good leader, Y/N.”
“You’re human too?”
“Yes. I grew up around werewolves, but I’m human.”
“Oh, that makes sense.”
“Don’t worry too much about being a werewolf or not, Y/N. That would be like saying you can’t lead because of your ethnicity. It’s about what’s on the inside.”
You nodded again, taking in every word she said. “Thank you.” You smiled.
“Of course.” She pulled you into a loving embrace, which you accepted with open arms. “You’re family.”
~~~
The full moon. A time where all the werewolves in the house went into the woods for a few days to keep the few humans around safe. This was a normal routine you had gotten used to over the few months, but Daniel was always hesitant on leaving.
“I don’t wanna leave you.” He mumbled, hugging your waist tightly. He rested his head on your stomach, a pout on his lips.
“Come on, bro. We need to go before it’s too late.” Jack said, poking Daniel’s arm repeatedly.
He sighed and got up from his knees. “Fine.”
“You’ll be back before you know it.” You told him, placing a small kiss on his lips. “It’s only for a few days.”
He squeezed you tight, kissing you back passionately. “Be careful, okay? Don’t go outside until we get back.” He murmured.
“Okay.” You replied softly, sinking into his embrace. “You be careful too.”
He nodded, smiling. “I’ll see you in a few days, my love.”
You pulled away and watched him join his pack members, all running off into the nearby woods.
Soon after everyone left, Keri shut all the windows and doors, enclosing herself, you, Christina and Anna safely inside. You all sat in a circle, watching the sunset and eating small snacks.
“Wait, Anna you’re human? But your brothers are all werewolves.”
She shrugged and smiled. “I guess I got more human than wolf genes.”
“Ohh, makes sense.” Christina replied, “well welcome to the human club.”
Anna laughed, taking another bite out of the cookie in her hands.
Silence filled the practically empty house, a large contrast to how it had been hours before. The sun sank deeper and deeper below the horizon, the full moon shining in the distance. Time quickly passed and soon enough everyone had gone to bed, leaving you alone in the living room. Like almost every night, you were up late and couldn’t sleep.
I wonder what Daniel is doing right now.
Of course, having to separate for a few days each month was normal, but that didn’t mean it didn’t hurt every moment that you were apart. You felt a sharp pang in your heart just thinking about it.
Is this how he feels all the time?
A low growling noise interrupted your thoughts. “What was that?” You mumbled to yourself, getting up from where you previously sat on the ground. You tiptoed towards the sound, confused.
You quickly grabbed the closest thing to you, which happened to be your steel water bottle, and made your way down the hall. This feels familiar.
A dark blur flew by, caught in your peripheral vision. It couldn’t have been anyone who was in the house with you, as they were all upstairs asleep. You dashed quickly towards where the blur went, bottle in hand. You saw it run back into the living room, so you quickly followed.
You hid behind a wall, catching your breath for only a moment.
Okay, on three.
One.
Two.
Three.
You jumped out from your hiding spot, swinging your weapon around wildly with your eyes screwed shut.
A low growl sounded from in front of you, making you open your eyes.
“Daniel?”
He was in his wolf form, of course, circling you. His once bright blue eyes turned to a deep blood red, his lip turned up into a snarl.
How did he get in?
You quickly backed away from him, the bottle in your hands pointed at him.
“Daniel…” you started, walking backwards towards the door.
He followed you, eyes trained on yours, stalking you as if you were a piece of prey.
“It’s just me, Y/N. Your girlfriend?” Your voice cracked as you spoke, making you cringe. “Come on, it’s okay bud.”
You bumped into a corner, effectively trapping yourself.
Daniel growled again, lunging towards you. You stifled a gasp as a pair of fangs sunk into your shoulder. You fell to the ground, blacking out from the pain.
~~~
“God, I’m so stupid!”
“It wasn’t your fault, dear.”
“But it kind of was, mom. I should’ve controlled him better, I can usually get him under my-“
“Daniel. Stop beating yourself up. She’s going to be okay. You can’t change what’s already happened.”
You laid neatly on a plush white bed, in a room you quickly recognized as one in the infirmary. Your left arm was wrapped in thick layers of gauze, two pools of blood slightly sweeping through. Your head spun, the bright fluorescent lights slightly blinding you.
“D-Daniel?” You croaked, weakly sitting up.
“You’re awake! Oh, god, lay back down please.” He replied, departing from his mother and kneeling at the bed next to you. He took your face in his warm hands and kissed you. “I’m so sorry.” He mumbled again and again between every kiss.
“It’s okay.” You mumbled back, resting your forehead on his.
He stroked your hair gently, looking at you with his beautiful blue eyes.
“What happened?”
He pouted and took your hands in his, rubbing small circles into your soft skin with his thumb.
“I-I bit you.”
“You...bit me?”
“Yeah. In my wolf form. You do know what’s going to happen to you, right?”
You nodded. “I’ll fight through it, okay? Everything’s going to be fine.”
“Everything’s not fine. I can’t lose you.” He whined. “The survival rate is like, 0.15 percent. It’s even lower if you get bitten by an Alpha and-“
“Daniel.”
“God, you’re going to be in so much pain for the next few days even if you  do survive I’m so sorry-“
“Daniel James Seavey. You can stop rambling.” You interrupted, a smile growing on your face.
“Right. Yeah...everything’s going to be fine. I’m not going to let anything bad happen to you.” He placed another soft kiss on your lips, filling you with warmth and happiness.
“Also, what’s with you and attacking me with water bottles?”
“I have no clue.”
~~~
The next few days were miserable for you. Even though you spent most of the day asleep, you were in constant pain and extreme discomfort. Saying that you’d be in immense pain was an understatement.
“Do you need anything, love?” Daniel asked for the tenth time today, sitting on the bed next to you.
“No, I’m fine.” You winced slightly from the pain in your chest.
“Feel any different today?”
“You mean besides the excruciating pain?”
“Besides that, love.”
“Kind of, but not really. Do you sense anything?”
He nodded. “You still smell human, but you have a different aura now. The boys think you’re going to turn into an omega, and it certainly feels like that.”
“What’s an omega?”
He chuckled and twirled a lock of your hair in his fingers. “An omega is the closest a werewolf can get to a human. They’re the lowest of the pack usually, and can’t change into their wolf form unless they’re in severe danger. They also don’t get affected by the full moon.”
“Oh-“
“Mhm. But the status thing won’t affect you.”
You hugged your pillow close to your stomach, letting out a small growl from pain. “How come?”
“Your growls are so cute.” He muttered, placing a small kiss on your head. “And you’re with me, dummy. You’ll be Luna.”
“Shut up.” You replied with a chuckle, plucking his forehead.
“Ouch! That hurt.” He whined.
“I’m glad you’re finally back.”
“Me too.” You said, smiling. “Being in constant pain for multiple days in a row sucks ass.”
Daniel placed a large hand on your stomach, radiating warmth from his skin. “I wish I could help you more.” He mumbled.
“Just being here is enough, Danny.” You replied, lacing your fingers between his.
He grinned and slid into bed next to you, pulling the white covers over you both.
“I love you.”
“I love you Danny.”

Parent Names:
Bruce Semler (Father): Regina and Bruce were really young and struggling when Austin was born. They were writers for the paper and always struggling to meet deadlines or working extra side jobs to bring home enough money to pay the bills. They’ve always been very open about not being able to afford another kid whenever Austin asked about having a little brother or sister; especially after taking in Tiffany. That was the fact until Regina and Bruce received a big break and started to climb the ladder at work. Approximately, 14 years ago Austin’s parents decided they wanted to give parenting another go, being more financially stable for it, and able to ‘do things right’ this time around. Instead of including Austin into their plans, Regina and Bruce have deemed him his siblings uncle, and walk around like a happy family without him.

Sibling Names:
Michael Semler (Brother): Austin siblings were born nearly 50 years after him and they barely talk. Mike has just turned 12 years old, Cedric and Calvin’s triplet brother, and thinks that Austin is his uncle. It’s what Bruce and Regina wanted.
Cedric Semler (Brother): Austin siblings were born nearly 50 years after him and they barely talk. Cedric has just turned 12 years old, Michael and Calvin’s triplet brother, and thinks that Austin is his uncle. It’s what Bruce and Regina wanted.

Tiffany Semler (Adopted Sister): Tiffany’s parents were best friends with Bruce and Regina. They died in a car crash when Tiffany and Austin were still toddlers, and Austin parents decided to take her in as their own since she was a coyote shifter too. Tiffany and Austin are close and she is also a photographer.
Children Names:
None
Romantic Connections:
Edith Walker (Girlfriend): Edith blew his mind when she walked into the pack a few years ago. She was brilliant and gorgeous but immediately began dating another coyote in the pack. Austin settled for being friends, and they grew close over the last 3 years. She was a hard hitting journalist from DC who apparently moved to be closer to her sister. Percy leapt at the chance of getting her as a nightly correspondent and eventually gave her her own show. She was just as interested in knowledge as he was, and they could talk for hours about minute ideas and topics. About a month ago, she broke up with her boyfriend and immediately went to his apartment and confessed she’d always been interested in him, but did not want to create bad blood in the pack. It felt like a movie, and Austin doesn’t quite believe he gets to wake up next to her.
Platonic Connections:
Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Snow (Friend): Liz was Austin’s first boss at the publication house and a cheerleader for him his whole career. She trusts him to be her eyes and ears on trend and since he’s progressed at the company, they’ve become friends.
Simon Brodeur (Friendly): Anton started bringing both he and Simon together when they hung out. Austin had never really paid much attention to the dingo, but once Anton pointed out how touch starved and alone Simon must feel, he felt the need to reach out more to his pack member. He’s started clapping him on the back and has invited him out to lunch a few times.
Isla Johns (Friend): He worked with Isla before she made EIC and switched publications. She did much of the editing and writing for his pieces, while he did the photographs. They became quick friends during their time together, and he was the one to introduce her to Lee. He’s not sure whether he regrets that decision, especially when the two are “off” again.
Tim Boaz (Best Friend): The twins went to school with Austin and the three quickly became best friends. He’s known them his whole life, and LeeAnne and Griffin treated him like the third brother. They were constantly a set of three, and Austin can’t imagine himself without them. They all have a tendency to feed one another’s bad habits, and usually get into trouble when the three of them go out. Still he wouldn’t trade them for anything.
Lee Boaz (Best Friend): The twins went to school with Austin and the three quickly became best friends.
Emmanuel Flores (Acquaintances): He knows that Emmanuel thinks it’s partially his fault for the article that outed him. It’s not, and Anton is encouraging both of them to bury the hatchet so that the “coyote bros” as Anton calls it, can hang all together.
Anton Kowalski (Bro): Austin hasn’t quite felt the same connection that he has with Anton, with any other friend. He’s always been the third wheel, whether with the Boaz twins or his own blood siblings. Anton feels like his actual brother, and makes him proud to be a coyote. He’s good at encouraging his good qualities and calling him out on his bad ones.
Seth Allen (Friendly): He only started hanging out with Seth due to his friendship with Anton. They don’t quite have the same senses of humor, but they have seen each other around campus and have begun to hang out without Anton being there.
Anya Grace (Fun): Austin has been flirting with Anya for fun. He was bored during a break in their classes one night and caught her shooting looks at him. Austin doesn’t date non-coyotes or non-wolves, and isn’t interested in changing anyone. Still, he’d rather her flirt with him over the Colt guy.
Ashley Malone (Good Friend): At the beginning, Austin wasn’t sure whether he liked the idea of having a warlock in his class. He contemplated changing out when Ashley called him on his crap, “psyching” him right before a class. They ditched and ended up having a long discussion. She was the first person who read him, that he didn’t reply to with anger. They’ve become good friends, and she knows more of his secrets than even the twins.
Tom Mills (Friend): Austin likes Tom, but he doesn’t try to get too close to humans. Of course that may be less of a problem soon, especially since he’s seen rats following Mills around. He recently offered him a job at the magazine to help him build his portfolio, instead of plowing potato fields back in Idaho.
Simone Campbell (Classmate): Austin briefly thought Simone was a new wolf when he went into Anonymous for a drink. Interested, he began to flirt with her before quickly realizing she was human. He’s not sure whether she remembers it or not, but she always treats him a little coolly.
Breha Kaur (Friendly): Breha compliments his photos often. She can be snooty and pompous most of the time so they aren’t very close, but he is more than happy to take the compliments.
Hostile Connections:
Milo Vasu (Dislike): Milo obviously hates Ashley and Austin but they have no idea why. The frat boy is constantly harassing them in class, the hallways or university events. Austin wants to show him how evil he can be but has been refining himself. Unknowingly, Seth has told him a little about Milo and Austin is planning on convincing Tim to write a piece on Kimberly Vasu’s softball team, so he can head out there to take photos for said piece. Austin is sure that being in close proximity to Milo’s younger sibling will drive him insane enough to throw the first punch, giving Austin the freedom and undeniable to mess his life up.
Megan Colt (Dislike): Megan has tried to blackmail Austin into becoming an informant and Austin has been playing the part but he has also confessed his sins to Liz making the blackmail obsolete. Instead, Austin has been working with Liz and a few human shifters to gain information about the Colts and who they could possibly be targeting next. Austin wants Liz to give him more leeway in order to find out more information related to the death of Lilah Reddy, Simon’s mate.

Bury Me
Isla stood at the stove and tried to focus on the food she was cooking. There was an aching itch inside of her that weaved excitement and anticipation for the impending full moon. Newer members of the pack were already out in the woods with their mentors. The young and weak often turned hours before the pack would meet at the Hollow to experience the shift together. Her old alpha would always tell the story of why they chose to shift together as a group before the moon hit the highest point in the sky. The memory brought a warm rush to her chest. Jason certainly never told the story. He shifted together because it’s just what they always did. Adam will be different…
At the voice in her head, Isla couldn’t suppress the smile as she stirred the food and tasted it on the end of a long wooden spoon. Adam was the kind of leader this pack deserved. Someone who wasn’t going to abuse them, who wouldn’t offer them up to the local vampires as snacks just so he could make an alliance with them. He’d lead the pack the way they should be led. He’d take them into the future, and guide the new wolves, and the young wolves. She was so deeply lost in her thoughts that she didn’t hear the truck pull up but she did hear the front door open.
Turning to look over her shoulder as the hulking presence of the man entered the room, Isla lowered her eyes. “I’m almost finished,” she told him, turning back to the stove. He was specific about what he liked and the meal before any shift was always large and packed with protein. His footsteps echoed as he came up behind her. Large hands settled on her hips and Isla’s body instantly tightened. Jason was never one for gentle touches. He had been rough since the moment she was given to him. He knew what he wanted and he took it without care or concern of the person he took it from. By now, Isla was hardwired to expect the pain when he was near her.
“You must be excited for tonight,” he said, lowering his mouth to her neck. His teeth pressed against the flesh and though she flinched, he didn’t draw blood. Jason’s animal was wide awake and ready for the moon, and all the things that came with it.
“Yes,” she replied simply. It had been too long since Jason had told her that she wasn’t allowed to shift outside of the full moon. She had known better than to ask why. You didn’t ask Jason questions. You just did what he said or he delighted in the punishment that came from questioning him. Isla was sure he just liked to show his power, and he liked to cause her pain. Her inability to shift screamed to the world that he was in control, even stronger than the wolf itself.
One large hand slid up her chest and she closed her eyes. Not now, she thought. He had to leave her alone while she was finishing his meal. Surely he was more excited for that then this. His bearded jaw rubbed against hers, and the hair was wiry and sharp. She clenched her jaw but had learned early on not to fight him when it came to this. He would not only show his strength and take what he wanted, but he’d beat her for pushing him away. No one turned down the alpha, least of all his mate. She was made to be whatever he wanted and when he wanted to let his wolf loose, she was expected to be the lamb.
“It’s been a long month since you shifted,” he growled in her ear, pushing his chest and groin harder against her body, pinning her easily between him and the stove. Food popped and splattered, hot against her skin, but she didn’t move.
“Yes,” she said.
“Perhaps it was a rash decision for me to forbid you to shift outside of the moon.” The words surprised her and for a moment, she wanted to ask who he was because Jason never admitted he was wrong. His hand moved up further from her chest and curled around her neck. “Perhaps if you had been able to shift, you wouldn’t have been consorting to overthrow me.” Isla’s eyes widened just as his hand tightened on her neck, no longer uncomfortable, rather squeezing to keep air out of her lungs. Her lips parted, struggling to draw in a breath as realization hit her. He knew… How could he know?! Grabbing at his hand, Isla tried to pull his hand away but he shook her and tightened even more still. His mouth was against her ear and the growl was deep and menacing.
“My own mate plotting against me, planning my death,” Jason hissed, “All because some piece of shit pack member wanted to throw you a bone.” Isla tried to say his name but he wasn’t letting up and she could hear something breaking under his grasp. Her face was red. She pushed her hands against the counter, kicking her feet, but he didn’t let go. Suddenly she was slammed face first against the stove. A pan flipped over and the searing hurt burned into her face before she was thrown backwards with enough force that her body cartwheeled over itself and the island. She landed hard on the other side, breath rattling as she gulped the air through her crushed windpipe.
Ignoring the burn on the side of her face, Isla kicked her feet in the ground and pulled with her arms to get as far away as she could. He rounded the counter and grasped her ankle, yanking her backwards. Reflex alone made her kick out with the other foot and she caught him right in the side of the face. His head jerked to the side for a moment and when he looked back, he had blood dripping from the corner of his mouth. That scared her more than anything because it ignited a fire in his eyes.
Isla tried to shake her head no but couldn’t. Her hand touched for her neck which felt like a bag holding a bunch of misformed rocked. She couldn’t talk - he knew it - and when he grabbed brought his foot down against her side, she couldn’t scream. The cracking sound rattled her whole body and he did it again and again before gripping her upper arm and yanking her up. She didn’t even make it to her feet, nor did she have to. He held her like she was weightless. “You will not take this pack away from me.” His voice was more animal than man. “And when he challenges me, I am going to delight in every wonderful second I get to rip him apart, limb from limb.” He tossed her like a rag doll and she didn’t even try to stop herself when she hit the ground.
“You don’t get out of this, do you understand me? I will kill him in front of you and mate you on top of his broken body. You’re mine to do with as I please.” Every word was punctuated by a punch, kick, or stomp. Other things broke, she could hear and feel it. Her ankle shattered, her arm snapped.. By the time Jason finished, he turned off the stove and left Isla in a bloody, broken pile in the corner of the living room. Her breath rattled painfully as she begged for the painless dark of unconsciousness.

Wolf studies Ryan's response, immediately sensing truth emitting from his brother. In regards to Jack and Sophia, Wolf doesn't think a single Cross regrets how things went. Wolf sometimes finds sympathy for Sophia, until he realizes what helping her would mean for Elliot and Isla. But, when it comes to the violence he can see the stumbling block that Ryan keeps hitting. He nods softly, choosing diplomacy in how he replies. "Okay, fine. You gave Beau a warning, but you see why I'd still be concerned at a reaction like that to words? Don't you want to save your energy for when things like the full moon happen?" because Wolf faces the honesty of their lives now. Things like the full moon can happen at any time.
"The middle is exactly what I'm asking for." his reply is instant, almost starting before the end of Ryan's sentence. "And the middle is exactly why I knew you'd be great at this." Wolf leans up straighter in his seat, head tilting as he scans eyes over Ryan's expression. He hopes to read the concerns like a story, for words to jump out of features. "I don't think any of your issues are because you're not capable, or because you can't let yourself learn self control. I think it's because you hit a sabotage button." his voice is quiet, a caution to not turn a steady conversation into a finger-point. "Old habits die hard, I'm not expecting any of us to wake up one day like different people. I don't even want us to, I love us." he shrugs proudly. "And I don't even want us to learn new ways of doing this because I hate who we are. I just hate what the old ways do to us."
He's grateful the acceptance he sees from Ryan, but Wolf also notices something else right there beside it. A doubt and a second guessing, two thoughts that even cloud his own self-esteem at times. "If no one else thought that we made a good team, there would've been a Hell of a lot more issues when I said I wanted you as Beta." he tells him squarely. "And even if there are wolves with us that might have doubts, they've not made it known because they know they're the minority. And they know..." he breaks off in a chuckle, simply from the irony. "You'd smush their face."

★・・・・・・★
Ryan has to accept that his argument is feeble, because everything Wolf says is logical. In spite of it, Ryan's arms fold over his chest and he tries to form a shrug. "I don't give a fuck 'bout Jack, I was using it as an example. I don't give a fuck 'bout Soph either, not really. Don't even know her, El and Isla come before her." it's the easiest thing he's said but then he huffs out a quick and slight laugh. "If you wanna be technical, I gave Beau a chance. He talked shit months ago and I didn't do nothing." but even then, Ryan is left with a burning question. In an ideal world, if he can walk away from every situation until it really calls, what does he do with the anger? What are any of them supposed to do with it?
It's also easy for Ryan to nod in response to Wolf's observation. The moment was over so quickly but within the few minutes of brutal punches, years were traveled. He was right back in Center Hill again, Jeffrey's voice loud enough as if it was coming from beside him instead of his thoughts. The zero to a hundred adrenaline that's impossible to shake, and he was seconds away from a hand reaching for the silver knife at his leg. "I ain't forgotten. I'm proud of it." he replies, and seriousness never feels natural to him but it's unavoidable now over his expression and through his words. "Wolf, there has to be somewhere in the middle of all this. We ain't ever gonna be a pack that's smiles and rainbows, it just ain't us."
This could be where Ryan admits that the responsibility of Beta has weighed on him for some time. That most nights, he wonders if he's good enough and wonders if all he'll do is cause disappointment. A theme in his life that he can't shake free from. Wolf's words are an encouragement but also another weight. He's let his brother down, and that may as well be a sin to them. "Alright. A week." Ryan accepts the ultimatum and already his mind works through how many things he needs to address. Each one an internal force that's followed him for years, each one born with him or carved into him through his life. He wonders if he can do it, if he was even ever supposed to.

Regina Semler (Mother): Regina and Bruce were really young and struggling when Austin was born. They were writers for the paper and always struggling to meet deadlines or working extra side jobs to bring home enough money to pay the bills. They’ve always been very open about not being able to afford another kid whenever Austin asked about having a little brother or sister; especially after taking in Tiffany.
It's what Bruce and Regina wanted.
Cedric Semler (Brother): Austin siblings were born nearly 50 years after him and they barely talk. Cedric has just turned 12 years old, Michael and Calvin’s triplet brother, and thinks that Austin is his uncle. It's what Bruce and Regina wanted.
Calvin Semler (Brother): Austin siblings were born nearly 50 years after him and they barely talk. Calvin has just turned 12 years old, Michael and Cedric’s triplet brother, and thinks that Austin is his uncle. It's what Bruce and Regina wanted.
Tiffany Semler (Adopted Sister): Tiffany's parents were best friends with Bruce and Regina.
Austin is sure that being in close proximity to Milo's younger sibling will drive him insane enough to throw the first punch, giving Austin the freedom and undeniable to mess his life up.
Austin wants Liz to give him more leeway in order to find out more information related to the death of Lilah Reddy, Simon's mate.

Hunter's glance was quick to Elliot at the statement, a slow nod following because his initial thought was how unsettling that atmosphere was going to be. In fact, it made him huff a quick chuckle. "Damn, well lemme know when you do so I can clear out before I claw at my eyes." he made light but the reality was much darker. That Allie and Elliot's pain was closely linked yet immeasurable. It was why Hunter's laugh didn't linger and he returned to his focused expression, thoughts ever turning despite words never seeming to do them justice. "Think a lot of 'em look up to you." it came out like a passing comment, but the weight was as genuine as all the others they carried. "Not just Al but my boys and Mase. Tyr." They all can imagine the strength it must take for Elliot to power on, all in awe of it. But Hunter knew, remembered, that it was a struggle Elliot had even long before Isla. "So, even just sittin' with her will probably be good. 'Cause it's sitting with you." He also knew that if he personally needed to just sit, and he did need it often, Elliot was always his first choice to find. Wolf would want to find a fable for the situation, Ryan would want to find a joke. But Elliot and him could just sit, and then Hunter would be reminded that the reason for continuing on was sat beside him. "Chicken egg. Makes perfect fucking sense." he sighed, grin back on his face but these days it never could stay put.
It didn't matter how many bases they found or where they had to travel to in order to find them. They all had a familiar feeling beyond their doors. Each one could be the same one. The same sort of darkness that was only ever broken by dim streams of light and the walls felt heavier than he could explain. Closing in or like they were going to keep sinking into the ground and take the whole Earth with them. Just down and down, like a pit. Hunter could barely form words at the best of times, but once he was in those bases it was as if his throat closed up like a trap. "Uhuh." he mustered in reply to Elliot, using his hand to switch the flashlight on that rested against the bag strap around his shoulder. All it did was illuminate the next few steps ahead, the dirt across soulless concrete. The dying leaves, crushed glass. Hunter took it all in for the sake of their safety despite knowing his astuteness would come back and haunt him when he next slept. He'd see all of this again but he'd hear Isla, Cece, Amaris. He'd see his brother's light dim just that little bit more. As they reached another corridor, Hunter nodded for Elliot's attention and tapped his brother's backpack to follow. The first door he tried was stiff, but a shoulder budge later and it was opened to reveal the small supply cupboard. Wolfsbane, paperwork and other small but potentially useful things. "Take the next one, I got this." he nodded again to the corridor, throwing off his bag to fill it but taking a moment to gather some of the loose papers. Anything that could be identification, or point them in a direction so they weren't chasing circles. "Wait, can you read this?" he called Elliot back again, faded ink not doing much help for his already existing struggle.
Tumblr media
Elliot knows better than most that Hunter's right. Talking really can't help them. Not anymore. Action is the only thing keeping Elliot sane. He's sure he'd snap if he was grounded like Allie. "I'll talk to her," he says after a beat, much to his own surprise. Sometimes it hurts too much to be around his niece, if only because he can see his own pain reflected in her; loss so clear in her flashing eyes. "And I'll talk to Wolf about watch." It isn't Elliot's preferred task, but he does it when he's needed, and he thinks that even if they sit in silence with each other, at least she'll be out of town. Even if Elliot's focus is on finding Isla and their daughter, he still loves his family and he knows that he doesn't show it well enough these days. "Doubt I'll get on another run 'till next week." Especially after going so far out this time. He's sure someone will yell at them for expending more resources than they should've been allotted. "Might as well kill some time." Words that have never sincerely left Elliot's mouth because any moment spent not searching the world beyond Hollow Cove was spent conducting research. Can still do research in a tree he reasons to himself. "Not too wrong still counts as wrong, Hunt," Elliot ribs lightly, momentarily distracted and taken back to a time where moments like these were more frequent – moments Elliot can just exist in the company of a brother.
But as they approach the large doors, his gaze snaps to Hunter, eyes going to the wound across Hunter's wrists. Flesh burned by the slightest touch. With grit teeth, Elliot nods. They both know what it means. His stomach twists as they yank it open and he keeps steady, determined to continue regardless of what he might find. I won't let anything happen to them, or you. I promise. His own words come back to haunt him as he faces down the black hole before them. The corridor is without any windows and the only light comes from behind them now. Eyes adjust to the darkness and he swallows hard, nodding at Hunter's back. Elliot grips his gun once more and clears his throat. "Looks like they left in a rush," he mumbles, taking in the way tools and tables are overturned. Boots crunch over broken glass and leaves as he follows Hunter further into the facility. "We should check if they left any weapons, or ammo." Because at least then this won't be a complete dead end then. And the more tools he sees, the more he finds himself hoping it is. I'll keep looking. I'll keep looking. He doesn't know who he pleads with as he observes knives rusted with what can only be blood, syringes shattered and table straps torn. Just please. Please. Please don't let them be here. Elliot lets Hunter lead them now, following him with barely a sound before he pats his brother's shoulder when they reach an intersection between corridors. "They probably got an office here too. With maps," he whispers, thinking any information they can glean from this place is information he can use to find them. I promise. I promise. I promise.

Elliot never dreamed of having the perfect life. But for a while, he had – with Isla by his side and Cece in their arms, even his father's dark presence couldn't permeate the walls of the little home they'd made for themselves. It had been perfect. And then it had shattered into a million pieces, along with himself. Elliot's spent the past three years trying to find any shard, any sliver of what was to keep him going. Isla's return has put him back together as much as anyone can given the circumstances, but Cece's absence is still a giant hole in his chest. A cavity where his heart should be.
He knows it's the same for Isla. And, in many ways, he knows it's the same for his brother's who've been by his side the entire time. Even now with Jack putting up roadblocks...especially now. "I know you won't. You're a good brother, Wolf. The best, really." Elliot knocks shoulders with him – one of the steadiest presences he's had in a life full of tumult.
Talk of Isla is always a surefire way to bring a smile to Elliot's face, and he knows that others feel the same. She's like sunlight after a storm, warming all of them with her presence. "I know how you feel, man," he drawls out, rubbing the back of his neck. He'd fel the same if he was Wolf. "But you ain't done nothing that can't be forgiven. I know it's a tough spot to put you in." And he knows that Isla didn't act out of malice, but grief. He suspects that Wolf knows the same.
Elliot presses his lips together, rubbing them back and forth for a beat before nodding. "Yeah...it is horrible. And I am." She's everything good and he feels like a new person with her back in his life again. "She calls it being happy-sad," Elliot huffs a little wry laugh, lip twitching at the corner, as though trying to fight back the frown that seems etched on his face. One that only grows deeper as he thinks of Hunter. "You ain't pushin' him away," comes a sharper reply than intended before Elliot bites his tongue. Stopping slightly so he can look at his brother, his arm flops at his side. "Sorry–– I just meant...you...Ry...me...we ain't pushin' him away." It's his choice to leave if he wants, but that thought itself cracks something open Elliot and it makes him feel hollow. So he shakes his head and continues to trudge forward. "And it ain't gonna come to that, Wolf."
Tumblr media
"Well, there's more that can be done." Wolf says to break his own thoughts about Jack. It's a Cross curse to be inundated with pondering, even if how they exhibit differs from brother to brother. Wolf runs away with his thoughts, leaps and gallops with each of them. Ryan acknowledges them and tries to push them away, twist them to mean something else. Hunter ignores them, buries them deeply as if they never existed. And then there's young Elliot, carrying them around with him everywhere he goes. Thoughts that flicked through his mind in a flash, all resting there from years ago. "I guess what I'm saying is, this is just the start. I won't let you and Isla be held back for much longer." and he hopes Elliot can trust him when he says it, even if they both know what has to come after.
As they speak about Isla, Wolf chuckles because she has had the pack's heart for a long time, there's no doubt about it. Each brother fond of her purely because of how she has alleviated a heaviness from Elliot's burden. Effortlessly, in fact. "It just isn't nice to know how much she hurts and there's nothing we can do." Wolf's gaze lowers to his feet, because his brother hurts in the same way. "I know everything is far from perfect for the two of you, but it does bring me comfort when I see you both together." a smile on Elliot's face that hasn't been there for years. All of them watching, terrified if they'd never see it again. "It's horrible to be happy and sad at the same time." he says after a moment, because those are two emotions Wolf always embodies at once. He fights neither of them. "But you can be both, it's okay to be happy she's here. It doesn't mean you're ignoring the sadness." Wolf hazards a guess that Elliot, prone to holding guilt like a secret, battles with it.
And then there's Hunter with his own battles and Wolf nods, a little glum but a nod nonetheless. "Well, I don't think anybody was expecting him to just lay down and say yep that's fine." he snickers and there's something respectable in Hunter's consistency. But then Wolf sighs, hoping that Elliot is right. That there is some hope. "I just hate that I have to be the one who pushes him either way." he admits, touching his chest in his usual dramatic flare. "It feels wrong here to tell any of you to go or choose to go if you don't change. Because even if you all annoy me, I love you. Warts and all." he nods, throwing an arm around Elliot's shoulder. "I know if he has to leave, what that means." for Elliot, mostly. "But do you promise to stay so we could bring him back?"

Isla's voice carries above the sounds of life in the town street. As he hears her words, Wolf's head bows and his eyes close. Then, Elliot's voice is next. Their words tangle together and their anguish is a low foreshadowing toll of a bell. It rings over their heads in pained chimes until the sting from forming tears force open Wolf's eyes. His head lifts to see Elliot and Isla collapse to the ground and their fall mimics the drop they all experience. Years waiting and searching wind to a close and yet multiply at once. Wolf wants to rush there, to embrace his brother and the woman Elliot loves. He wants to shield them from the gathering crowd. From the pain.
Hunter moves to Elliot first but the plead and worry in his eyes cause Wolf to follow next. There's a gentle touch to their little brother's shoulder and then one to Isla's. Wolf doesn't hesitate to nod for Ryan, eager for the three older brothers to form around their youngest. It's the oldest form of protection in the book, to encase around the one who needs it most. Wolf in front of them, Hunter to Elliot's side and Ryan to Isla's. He leads them in a slow walk, knowing that the pain is a weight strapped to Elliot and Isla's feet. But, he doesn't want their pain to be a spectacle. He parts a link of onlookers with a wave of his arm, a firm but not unkind push to another wolf that doesn't move away fast enough. Walking like this is the closest they can get to carrying Elliot and Isla to the cabin. It's the closest they can get to helping, to taking away their hurt.

The exhilaration cuts through Isla as she clings to him, palms glued to his back as her arms wrap around under his. She squeezes him. Tighter and tighter. Her whole body trying to adjust that he's here, the weight she feels in her arms is him. She has to look at him, see him. It's real, he's here. After so many years of feeling an emptiness, an unrelenting fear that she would never feel this again, she's scared to even blink. When he says he's sorry, Isla's head is shaking and her hands are back to holding his face, pressing her forehead to his. "No, no, don't, I-" because it's her that has to be sorry but she can barely speak, the words are just blubbering from her. "I missed you so much." Isla holds his face, studying his features that she has been so scared of never being able to see again. And all she can do is cry because right beside the incomprehensible joy is something unspeakable.
"Amaris- I...." it takes all of her strength to try and form the words, but each one chokes her and her head is still shaking. "She let them take her so me and Cece could get away, and I...I've been looking everywhere but-" her breaths inward are sharp and shaking. "Cece, she...in April, they took her- right from me, I was...the wolfsbane, I couldn't even fight. She hasn't been with me, Elliot." it's the first time she's been able to say it to someone who she knows will feel the same pain as she does. It's the first time she can cry about their daughter knowing that her tears are understood. The past six months she's only been able to say it while reaching other towns and staring into faces of pity looking back at her. "I'm so sorry, please...don't hate me- I couldn't fight back, I-failed her, I'm so sorry."
