Some women have a retroverted uterus. For these women, you put the speculum in straight or angle it towards the pt's abdomen. Most women have an anteverted uterus, which is why it's usually easier to find the cervix if you point it more down towards the pt's rectum.

Some female reproductive health information ahead!
My friend had her reproductive organs checked due to intense pain during period, and she was given the information that she has 'Retroverted Uterus'. She wasn't given any additional info, other than some basic nutrition advice, so she had to go and look for herself!
The wiki page she found revealed that a lot of women can have this condition without ever finding out, because it generally 'doesn't cause any problems'. But if you read on, you find out that it can be caused by endometriosis, a condition where your uterus attaches to your pelvic structures, making periods intensely painful, which is a dangerous condition to have.
Retroverted uterus is also associated with pain during sexual intercourse, and pain during menstruation! Because of the position, the ovaries and the fallopian tubes are also titled, so piv type of intercourse where the woman is positioned on top can be more painful, while vigorous sex can cause tears in ligaments around the uterus.
There are treatments for this condition and it can be reversed, but both of me and my friend were mad that this information is not readily taught to women, that we're not being told any of it during our education, since it could affect any number of us without us knowing!
Considering how violent and sexually aggressive males are in the society, it's possible any number of women are struggling trough painful periods and sexual intercourse without ever knowing why. If anyone else is struggling with this condition please write your experiences!

It turns out that in an evolutionary sense, people whose bodies prioritize the reproductive cycle over saner concerns have more babies, thus propagating their genes. We don't have to be healthy or happy. We just have to live long enough to have babies. If we pursue that up it's just your body telling you to hurry up and get fertile again so you can have a baby before illness kills you. This is one of many reasons why evolutionary biology is a useful science but is not a good guide for human behavior.
My body will use its last little bit of strength to menstruate like nothing in the world will stop it except extreme prolonged mental stress. Two years ago I was having the worst ulcerative colitis flareup of my life and battling relapsing c. Diff due to my suppressed immune system and tattered colon, anemic from blood loss and extremely dehydrated and my body used what remaining blood I had to give me the worst period of my life. Those priorities are so wild. Make blood? No. Digest food? No. Fight serious infection? No. Shed uterine lining? Yes.

Retroverted Uterus: Is It Normal or a Health Issue
The Retroverted uterus is a gynaecological condition where the uterus sits tilted towards the spine instead of its usual forward position. In most cases, this condition doesn’t affect reproductive health and is considered a normal variation in female anatomy. However, in some instances, this may impact regular bowel, urinary, and menstrual health too.
“We often find a Retroverted uterus a common denominator of urinary tract infection, painful periods, and abnormal pain during pregnancy or sexual intercourse. Some women even find difficulties using tampons, which is usually the case with a Retroverted uterus,” says Dr. Neelima Mantri, a leading gynaecologist and best laparoscopic surgeon in Mumbai.

Okay I am not getting a straight answer from the internet, and I trust what you say on this. During a doctors visit they did an ultrasound and confirmed I have a retroflexed (flipped and against the colon) uterus. It’s kinda curved in there, at least according to the tech who placed my IUD and referenced a “sharp curve” towards the top.
Every source says that this is normal and won’t cause problems, but I have horrible cramps during my period and pain during sex. I even occasionally feel stuff rearranging during sex and it’s very uncomfortable. I also have a lot of GI issues and general pain. Is this actually something that can cause issues or am I overreacting.
hi anon,
retroverted or tilted uteri are "normal" in the sense that they're fairly common; it's estimated that somewhere between 20 and 25 percent of people who have a uterus have one that's tilted to some degree. they are also often associated with painful sex and menstruation, as well as difficulty using tampons and frequent UTIs. yes, they're normal, and yes, they can also cause problems.

Something I've been thinking about for a while
Anya was assaulted before the crash. We all know this fact
I'm going to assume that the ship wasn't exactly equipt with this for pregnancy, ie., tests and such
So it would take for the lack of a cycle and symptoms for Anya to have known she was pregnant
Which could've landed her at one (least) or two (most) months along (but it could be further)
If the stress of everything with the crash didn't cause a miscarriage or anything, that would put her at maybe three or four months, five top (I can't remember how much time had passed rn)
That means, if she didn't have a tilted uterus (retroverted), she would likely have been showing (the uniforms on the ship don't seem to be forgiving)
They would've found out regardless of her efforts
After some time, the evidence would've been clear and undeniable
She would have to deal with being able to actually see what was done to her
She didn't deserve anything that happened to her

I’m talking to this girl i know about how birth control is labeled as a carcinogen & I stopped taking it after 9 years and she looked at me confused and said, “ I thought you were asexual and had no interest in sex?”
My mind was blown because birth control isn’t only used to prevent pregnancy. I told her i have endometriosis & a retroverted uterus. It was horrible when i was younger. The pain was so bad that I could barely walk the first couple days, my period was so heavy it would run down my leg and I had to change almost every 45 minutes. I was 11 when i got my period and It took me 8 years to get medical help since my mom didn’t want me on birth control because it can cause cancer.
It’s crazy to me how people think birth control has no other medical purposes. 😳

talking about my body parts here and how bad i wanna get pregnant but idk if its possible or wise
i dont want a hystorectomy bc i want to be able to have kid(s?) someday...but the way my health is looking rn i may have to end up having one :( i know treatments for my condition are contraversial and not guarenteed success even if a doctor agreed to treat me (not hugely likely because i identify as a transgender man.)
the way my uterus is shaped (bicornate retroverted) puts me at risk for death by birthing complication/miscarriage/c section complications anyway...and my eggs seem to be mostly infertile, with only a handful of viable ones hanging on the branches
i dont wanna adopt..i want to be pregnant really really badly. i want to create a child with my spouse and raise our family :') its a rather big dream of ours...
perhaps in the future i will be able to, and willing, to allow another person to carry my egg but..it is very expensive and painful, but i would do it all to see the beautiful newborn face looking back at me in my arms.

ok after much analysis and consultation. i am going to widen my clean and snatch position considerably (to suit my height) and turn my toes out way more to get my long ass legs and my knees out of the way of the barbell for the first pull. i should have much more power going into each move.
this is in defiance of all coaches so far but all of my coaches are short :) so consulting with taller lifters has led me to this conclusion.
and i will do the same for my front and back squat. in addition to my long-term stability damage from high heels, a little research reveals i am retroverted hip/pelvis wise and i have excellent external rotation but almost no internal rotation. my stance needs to be tremendously wider and toes need to be out for me to have a straight back and power into and out of the squat. a narrow toes-forward squat—pushed and pushed by everyone in lifting—has always put me in a lot of pain, and my knees tend to lose a lot of strength on the way down, and now i think i know why. the traditional squat stance is not designed for my body, and i need to modify it. testing it out at home with heavy kettlebells already has proven optimistic.
again, this being in defiance of all coaches. but none of them have my anatomy! so. i will be squatting for my anatomy.
i’m curious if these fixes will result in some heavier loads for me if they bring more stability. widening my barbell grip recently improved my PRs—it stands to reason a wider stance will, too.
being this tall fucking sucks sooo bad for weightlifting mechanics. i wish i was average woman height so bad 😔 instead i just have to look like a freak lifter in freak positions now. but whatever. we ride
