Outside of animatronics, do you have any other niche interests?
depends what you qualify as niche tbh lol . my other big fixation rn is fallout new vegas ofc, which i dont rly think counts as niche unless you arent really a video games person. my other main video game related interest is shovel knight which is Also kinda a famous game but its way more niche than fallout at least lol. it's been like 6 years and you can still get me to write you an essay about specter knight at any time
i also have a lot of interest and passion in specific music artists/genres but i dont rly talk abt that online for some reason?? i feel like it's harder to discuss an audio only format that well online lol. my music taste is fairly eclectic but if u ever wanna talk music ask me about numetal or classic country or classic rock. or hyperpop. or most other genres but those are my current favs lol
and i guess as far as like, really specific things go- i dont rly consider these Interests as much as like. Hobbies i guess lol but me and packtion are always trying out some new thing together. we dip into linguistics and trying to learn languages often (which rarely goes far lol), occasionally technology in general (though thats slightly more their thing), and them being a musician has def contributed to my appreciation for ability to talk abt music lol. most recently we've started learning gregg notehand, which is a form of shorthand (packtion had previously tried out stenography) and it's made my notebook which i usually draw in look insane lmao
Tumblr media Tumblr media
#asks#i honestly consider all my animatronic and travel related interests as like. many smaller interests under a big umbrella#like im rly interested in rainforest cafe but there isnt much overlap between rae/cec and rfc fans#so i just think of it as a different but similar thing#which is how ive been able to branch out into other themed entertainment stuff that doesnt always have animatronics#without me feeling too off brand lmao#ive just come to love kitsch and americana and stuff in general#ive been to a buc-ee's once and it was equal parts entertaining and kinda horrifying. theres so much shit w that beavers face on it#but i did buy a plushie. and take a picture with him. and it was great#im super interested in mars 2112 which doesnt have animatronics but is otherwise just rfc in space lmao#more on that in a future video probably#a year or so ago i went to the world's largest buffet which is in pennsylvania. just for the kitsch#its called shady maple smorgasbord. frankly i think the buffet was kinda mid. and i think the title is kinda unearned#the buffet itself isnt rly much bigger than like. a golden corral. but the building itself is HUGE#so like Technically its the largest buffet but . whatever lol#it makes up for it w the entire basement (also huge) being a gift shop. and also they had these like. 3d paintings which were sick#ive got videos if anyones curious. and i bought a shirt bc ofc i did lmao#i wear it in my upcoming video and if i couldve talked abt shady maple in it i wouldve lol#but instead my review lives in these tumblr tags

Alright since at this rate the ref sheets probably aren't gonna be done for a while, I'm willing to take questions about my AU, Rot For Clout if you guys have any!
Idk how effectively I'll be able to answer due to spoilers, but I'll try, just know that if you get the classic "you'll have to wait and see" then that's probs gonna be important later ;)

It's that time of year again where Mari Lwyd starts to be talked about and shared around and an INCREDIBLY misleading post gets shared a lot. As someone who grew up with Mari Lwyd I wanted to clear some things up.
Also hello, if you are unaware who Mari Lwyd is. This is about the Welsh tradition of the horse skull who visits houses during the Christmas to New Years period in Wales asking for alcohol.
Tumblr media
First off and probably the most important one:
Mari Lwyd is not a cryptid!
I can not emphasise this enough. She. Is. Not. A. Cryptid. There is no story or mystery about a ghost or zombie horse roaming the Welsh valleys. She's not even supposed to be a ghost or a zombie. It's just a horse skull on a stick with a guy under a sheet. She's a hobbyhorse and a folk character used to tell Welsh stories and keep songs alive. When people spread the misinformation that she's a cryptid, it's the equivalent of saying Kermit the Frog is a cryptid.
She is actually only one character in a wider cast of characters who go door to door or, in more modern times, pub to pub. The cast of characters can change town to town and village to village but there are some common ones I see time and time again. The Leader, the Merryman, The Jester and The Lady are just some I see regularly. Punch and Judy used to be more popular a few years ago but I haven't seen them in a while as their tradition has mostly fallen out of popularity. In most cases, almost the whole cast will be played by men. Even the characters are considered and referred to as female. Though this again depends and varies by which group is partaking in the Mari Lwyd tradition.
Tumblr media
This point also goes onto my second point,
Mari Lwyd does not rap.
I think this comes from a very common misunderstanding of what rap is vs spoken word. Rap is a very specific style of music originating from the African American communities of the USA and has it's own structure and motifs unique to it. It's a lot more complex than people give it credit for as a style of music and just flippantly assign anything similar to it as being rap. If someone is talking fast or reciting poetry, it is not rap. Or anything that is an exchange of words between two people is not a rap battle. Mari Lwyd does not do rap, actually something that gets left out of these posts is the fact Mari Lwyd does not even speak. It's actually the Leader, who does all the speaking and song based banter between the house/pub owner for entry. Mari Lwyd just clicks her mouth, bites people and bobs her head around.
I think Mari Lwyd is a really beautiful and unique part of Welsh culture. She's not actually as wildly celebrated as a lot of the posts make her out to be. Actually, I think most Welsh people themselves learn about Mari Lwyd through the internet as well. Her popularity is increasing thanks to the drive of local groups wanting to keep the traditions alive and a renewed desire to document Welsh traditions before they're gone. Which is why it's such a shame that she's turned into something she's not to earn horror points on the internet. I think this is why it bothers me so much to see the misunderstandings of the culture and the folk tradition. Mari Lwyd's origin is very hot debated as well as how long it's been going on for. But I think it's thanks to a lot of traditions like this that the Welsh language and our stories weren't lost forever. Welsh culture is recovering as is the language. But it's still in a very fragile place. I think it's why it's important to document and correct information when it's spread.
Anyway, if you want to see the tradition in action, here's a lovely video from the Cwmafan RFC going to one of the pubs for charity. It includes the song exchange with the pub owner for entry and the whole pub singing and joining in once Mari Lwyd and the rest are inside.
youtube
As well with another video from St Fagan's showcasing the more traditional and door to door form with the larger cast.

standard issue doll.
doll that understands ISO 8601.
doll that interfaces over TCP as defined in RFC 9293 (UDP using RFC 768 is not suitable, because a doll must always ask for permission to speak).
doll that beeps using the Opus codec as defined in RFC 6716, because it makes all other lossy codecs entirely obsolete.
doll that conforms to IEEE 754 for floating-point arithmetic, and therefore has a bit of trouble understanding very large or very small values, much like a human.
doll that stays away from "living standards", because it parses those words as "perpetually unfinished works".
doll that is a perpetually unfinished work.

Lord Flashheart's (Blackadder Goes Forth) Costume
Tumblr media
I don't think it comes to many as a surprise that I was going to do some sort of Flashheart costume. I've had people ask me after my last cosplay "So what's next? Oh please say it's Flashheart!". For a character who only appears once a series, he is well loved amongst the Rik Mayall fans and I happen to be one of them. So, strap yourself in, go get yourself a cup of tea and a biscuit because we're in for a long haul flight. We're doing this a bit back to front, usually I'll release a photoshoot all in one go but as I ran out of time to photograph myself before going to the con I'm going to, I thought I would post them after the con. The photoshoot is in the works, keep your eyes peeled!
When deciding which era of Flashheart I wanted to do, I settled with the WWI era as to my knowledge pre research, it was going to be the easiest of the bunch to do. As much as my heart sings out to Elizabethan Flashheart, my sewing skills are nowhere near good enough for that yet. I knew I wanted to get this costume totally right so I gave myself a fairly big budget and indeed the biggest budget so far in my cosplaying journey.
Go big or go home, I researched into actual Royal Flying Corps uniforms people were selling and saw just how difficult they were to find. I visited a local war memorabilia shop armed with a few questions about RFC uniforms. When I explained what I was doing, they smiled and laughed fondly about Blackadder. They very quickly informed me that finding an actual RFC uniform that's not in a museum is extremely slim and they were totally right. I had a back up plan though, I had found a company that did tailormade historical re-enactment uniforms from all sorts of eras and rather perfectly, a RFC tunic and trousers. I got myself measured by my lovely tailor friend and purchased them. I actually purchased the drill trousers instead of the breeches as the colour looked more correct. (not pictured, you'll see those when I take proper photos of me wearing it.)
Tumblr media
The breakdown of the costume: The Royal Flying Corps tunic.
The RFC tunic was going to be a huge part of the costume and in my eyes all of the tiny elements of the costume to bring it together had to be properly researched. The base of the jacket only came with the RFC patch on the right side of the jacket so everything else had to be found. For the first part and actually the first purchase I made for this project was the collar pins. These are original WWI RFC collar pins that came in perfect condition. I also went back to the same local war memorabilia shop again and very luckily, they had a full matching set of original WWI captain's shoulder pips, with metal pins. It makes this costume more special to know I have an actual piece of history on my shoulders.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As I was informed, all pips during WWI were as standard and the more pips you have, the higher the rank. As Flashheart is a Wing Commander he technically holds the rank of captain, meaning he has 3 pips on each shoulder. With both the collar pins and the pips, I had to attach these extremely carefully. I was told that either I would need to sew them on (meaning I would have to tack them on and they wouldn't lie flat to the jacket) or I would need to pierce holes and put them in. I opted for piercing. So with an extremely delicate hand (and because this tunic was expensive) I carefully measured each one out and cut slits with a scalpel. The length of the blade was perfect because I could poke the loops through and it be in enough that if a pin slides out, I won't lose the pip. The collar pins didn't come with pins to keep them in place but the lovely gentleman I bought the pips from gave me some to cut down.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The medals:
The medals I struggled to find for a bit of time. I had researched a bit and found that someone had identified a few of Flashheart's many medals which helped but my original plan was to find actual medal bars. However, I came across a gentleman who recreates medals and could do custom medal bars of any medals I wanted. I immediately messaged them and showed them the photo that had all the identified medals on. He said he was able to do it and whether I wanted the medal that someone hadn't identified yet that was just slightly poking out of the jacket in the reference photo. I couldn't believe it! And i'm so glad that medal was identified by him because it turned out to be a good addition to the bar. Now I know Flashheart has a lot more medals than what I've got here, but trying to get all of them would be a nightmare and rather expensive so I got the ones that are visible kind of when he wears his coat.
Tumblr media
(top left) OBE, (top middle) Royal Victorian Order, (top right) Distinguished Service Order, (bottom far left) Military Cross, (bottom middle left) Ashanti War Medal, (bottom middle right) India General Service Medal and (bottom far right) 1914 Star medal.
I did research into them and what they all mean but this post will get even longer if I put all the info. I do encourage you to have a look into them if you're interested though! What I find fascinating is the level of detail Blackadder's costume designer went to. I found out that the Distinguished Service Order medal was apparently just short of being awarded a Victoria Cross (which is an extremely prestigious award) and were normally given 'for service under fire or under conditions equivalent to service in actual combat with the enemy'. However between 1914 and 1916, a number of awards were given to individuals, often officers, for circumstances not under fire. This caused a lot of resentment towards those who got it and especially from front line officers. Which to me, makes me think no wonder Blackadder didn't really like Flashheart! That did make me laugh a little bit.
The 1914 Star medal was awarded mainly to officers but approximately 1000 were awarded to members of the RFC which is another really good touch!
Tumblr media
The tunic is attached with 5 buttons up the person's right side and attached with two hooks at the top near the shoulders.
The Sam Browne belt and gun holster were another important addition to the tunic. Often officers or higher would have worn a Sam Browne belt and there would be space to hook a gun holster and an ammo pouch could be added too. I didn't get an ammo pouch in the end but the gun holster was a must. Which leads me onto Flashheart's massive weapon (ooer!).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The gun Flashheart uses is a Webley MK VI. Now, I did look into these guns and there was no way on earth I was going to get a real one or an airsoft one for that matter. I looked into 3D printing instead! I had got a guy to 3D print me a gun but his printer unfortunately broke half way through meaning I had to find an alternative quick. A work colleague found me one on Etsy and it was perfect! It came in about 7 pieces that I had to carefully glue together but it was easy enough as I live in a tabletop household. Flashheart's gun has a loop on the bottom to attach a lanyard to. So me using my creative initiative, I salvaged a picture frame hook from an old frame, filed down a section in the middle so the metal part would lie flat, glued it together and bob's your uncle! a loop that looks like it was meant to be there!
Tumblr media
The lanyard loop didn't fit in the loop so I used an old keyring loop to attach it.
The next bit after gluing was to sand the gun down slightly, prime it black and then dry brushed the metal part using Citadel's Leadbelcher silver paint. I also then used Citadel's Agrax Earthshade wash to dirty it up on the metal and then once dry, I did a couple of coats both sides of a matt varnish spray just to seal it all together and none of the paint will rub off.
Tumblr media
Another fine detail is the hinge where, if it was a working gun, you'd pull the barrel down and load it. (I don't know the correct terminology for guns!) There was just a hole and I wasn't a fan of it. So I used the small screws from the frame I got the fixtures from and screwed one either side before priming black. It worked perfectly and looked effective.
Tumblr media
I can't believe how much time I've put into this costume, loads of research and hard work finding and piecing everything together. I just hope I can do him justice when I wear it properly!
WOOF!

CNSA 2.0 Algorithms: OpenSSL 3.5’s Q-Safe Group Selection
Tumblr media
The CNSA 2.0 Algorithm
To prioritise quantum-safe cryptographic methods, OpenSSL 3.5 improves TLS 1.3 per NSA CNSA 2.0 recommendations. With these changes, servers and clients can prefer Q-safe algorithms during the TLS handshake.
OpenSSL employs unique configuration methods to do this without modifying TLS. For instance, servers use a delimiter to sort algorithms by security level while clients use a prefix to indicate key sharing.
These changes provide backward compatibility and reduce network round trips to enable a smooth transition to post-quantum cryptography while maintaining the “prefer” criterion for Q-safe algorithms. This version of OpenSSL is the first major TLS library to completely implement CNSA 2.0, and its long-term support makes it likely to be widely deployed.
Q Safe
Quantum-Safe Cryptography and Quantum Computer Danger
The possibility that quantum computers may break asymmetric encryption drives this research.
“Future quantum computers will break the asymmetric cryptographic algorithms widely used online.”
To secure internet communication, quantum-safe (Q-safe) cryptographic methods must be used.
CNSA 2.0's NSA Major Initiator mandate
The NSA's Commercial National Security Algorithm Suite 2.0 (CNSA 2.0) lists authorised quantum-safe algorithms and their implementation timetable. TLS allows ML-KEM (FIPS-203) for key agreements and ML-DSA or SPINCS+ for certificates.
The CNSA 2.0 requirement requires systems to “prefer CNSA 2.0 algorithms” during transition and “accept only CNSA 2.0 algorithms” as products develop. This two-phase method aims for a gradual transition.
The TLS “Preference” Implementation Challenge
TLS (RFC 8446) clients and servers can freely pick post quantum cryptography methods without a preference mechanism. The TLS protocol does not need this decision. The TLS standard allows clients and servers wide freedom in choosing encryption techniques.
A way to set up TLS connections to favour CNSA 2.0 algorithms is urgently needed. One must figure out method to favour Q-safe algorithms without modifying the TLS protocol.
OpenSSL v3.5 Improves Configuration Features
Developers focused on increasing OpenSSL's configuration capabilities since altering the TLS standard was not possible. The goal was to let OpenSSL-using programs like cURL, HAproxy, and Nginx use the new preference choices without modifying their code.
Client-Side Solution: Prefix Characters for Preference
Clients can provide Q-safe algorithms in OpenSSL v3.5 by prefixing the algorithm name with a special character (”) before the algorithm name in the colon-separated list. The ClientHello message asks the client to generate and deliver key shares for ML-KEM-1024 and x25519, showing support for four algorithms.
A client can submit a maximum of four key shares, which can be modified using a build option, to minimise network congestion from Q-safe key shares' increased size. This architecture should allow completely Q-safe, hybrid, legacy, and spare algorithms.
For backward compatibility, the first algorithm in the list receives a single key share if no ‘*’ prefix is supplied.
Server-Side Solution: Preference Hierarchy Algorithm Tuples
The server-side technique overcomes TLS's lack of a native “preference” mechanism by declaring the server's preferred algorithm order using tuples delimited by the ‘/’ character in the colon-separated list of algorithms.
The server can pick algorithms using a three-level priority scheme.
Tuple processing from left to right is most important.
Second priority is client-provided key sharing overlap inside a tuple.
Third, overlap within a tuple using client-supported methods without key sharing.
Example: ML-KEM-768 / X25519MLKEM768
Three tuples are defined by x25519 / SecP256r1MLKEM768. Within each tuple, the server prioritises algorithms from previous tuples, then key share availability, and finally general support.
Even with a vintage algorithm with a readily available key share, this solution ensures that the server favours Q-safe algorithms despite the risk of a HelloRetryRequest (HRR) penalty: The prefer requirement of CNSA 2.0 prioritises Q-safe algorithms, even at the risk of a round-trip penalty that is fully eliminated by the new specification syntax.
Keep Backward Compatibility and Reduce Impact on Current Systems
Designing for backward compatibility was crucial for a smooth transition. The new configuration format doesn't need code changes for existing apps. To avoid disrupting other features, OpenSSL codebase tweaks were carefully made in “a few pinpointed locations” of the huge codebase.
Additional Implementation Considerations
A “?” prefix was added to ignore unknown algorithm names, handle pseudo-algorithm names like “DEFAULT,” and allow the client and server to use the same specification string (requiring the client to ignore server-specific delimiters and the server to ignore client-specific prefixes).
OpenSSL v3.5's Collaboration and Importance
Development involved considerable consultation and collaboration with the OpenSSL maintainer team and other expertise. The paragraph praises the “excellent interactions” throughout development.
OpenSSL v3.5 is “the first TLS library to fully adhere to the CNSA 2.0 mandate to prefer Q-safe algorithms.” Due to its Long-Term Support (LTS) status, Linux distributions are expected to adopt OpenSSL v3.5 more extensively, making these quantum-safe communication capabilities available.
Conclusion
OpenSSL v3.5 must have the Q-safe algorithm preference to safeguard internet communication from quantum computers. The developers satisfied the NSA's CNSA 2.0 criteria by cleverly increasing OpenSSL's configuration features without requiring large code modifications in OpenSSL-reliant applications or TLS standard changes.
Client-side prefix and server-side tuple-based preference systems give quantum-resistant cryptography precedence in a backward-compatible way, enabling a safe digital future. OpenSSL v3.5's LTS status ensures its widespread use, enabling quantum-safe communication on many computers.
FAQs
How is Quantum Safe?
“Quantum safe” security and encryption withstand conventional and quantum computer assaults. It involves developing and implementing cryptography methods that can withstand quantum computing threats.

TAZ Abnimals Episode 26: Radical Rescue
Written 11 Apr 2025, shortly after listening, before release of Ep27.
The Greenback Guardians are in the RFC HQ lobby, surrounded by robots, and keep fighting. Loveless (Griffin) attaches a robot head to his hook and chain to soup up his weapon, a nice little Uno Reverse from Magnus/Travis’ tendency to rip off robot arms in Balance. Lamarr (Justin) is trying to use distraction tactics, but they’re not working, and he starts to consider that maybe pacifism just doesn’t work. Clint (as Newton) twists the rules until they squeak to pull off some real good stuff. They do very well, but the elevator door opens, and four rhino-men enter.
Meanwhile, Navy is feeling pretty content with having achieved closure with his father, and out three heroes continue crawling through the vents. They find a detention centre, with two occupied cells – one by Goshua Darnett, the other by Chloro-Phyllis. There are also two guards. The three decide that they do owe Goshua. Roger charges in, but his Bull in a China Shop doesn’t work – although it allows Lyle to Extremely Exfiltrate Goshua. Lyle almost gets grabbed, but Navy interposes himself. Combat commences. At one point Navy uses the hydropack to slam a guard against Chloro-Phyllis’ cell, and she starts wrapping him in vines. The other guard is eventually taken down by Goshua, and they lock him in Goshua’s old cell, before convincing Chloro-Phyllis to release her guard before she strangles him. They lock that guard in with the other, and ask Goshua to stay and make sure Chloro-Phyllis doesn’t escape, speculating that they might have a new nemesis (and if they do have a second Abnimals campaign with her as the big bad, I would not object, but that would depend on how this campaign ends).
Back to the Greenbacks, they are fighting the rhino-men. Loveless nearly goes down, but Lamarr interposes himself, and continues considering the feasibility of pacifism. But Newton comes through with an effective breakdancing attack.
Back to our three. They emerge from the vents into an executive washroom. Navy and Lyle take a moment to freshen up and rehydrate, while Roger wrestles with the door. Navy gives a heartfelt pep talk about how he wouldn’t want to go into a knock-down game-ending fight with anyone else. Then he checks out what’s outside the washroom. It’s a large office-area, with one room behind closed glass doors, and most of the floor taken up by a giant saltwater aquarium. But in the glass-doored room, they can see Carver strapped to a table, hooked up to all sorts of machines and tubes. Roger uses the Halacar Hack to get in, and checks out the machines and computers. They’re examining the radiation and chemicals in Carver’s system, preparing for the final test. Also present is a glowing green burrito, much like the one in the Greenback Guardians documentary, labelled as being experiment 52 and only beefing up the subject for an hour. Roger tosses the burrito to Lyle before unhooking Carver – he’s been fed an IV with saline and sedatives, and starts wheeling him out. But disconnecting him set off alarms, and they hear footsteps coming down the corridor, and the door is opened, by…Here, Justin (I think Justin, might’ve been Travis) asked that listeners don’t spoil the surprise, but I have been saying who I was 99% sure it was for at least a dozen episodes. It’s Walter Russell, The Walrus.
This episode flew by, and I loved it. I am finding it a bit tricky to keep track during the Greenback fight scenes, partly because while we know pretty much everything the main heroes can do, the Greenbacks are more closed-book. But I did enjoy them playing around with the high-powered characters. And I enjoyed Chloro-Phyllis, even though for a hot minute it seemed like she was going to be given free reign to murder a guy. I do like the idea of her coming back “next season”, if something like that happens. I enjoyed Justin/Lamarr’s musings on pacifism and robots with souls – my opinion is that pacifism is only possible under one of two circumstances: first, you’ve got enough might to intimidate your potential opponents (see the Cold War); or second, you can appeal to your potential opponents’ better nature. Historically, the first works a lot better. But both of them require your opponent to have a certain level of reasoning. If robots are programmed to attack, and don’t have independent reasoning ability, they can’t be intimidated, and they don’t have a better nature to appeal to. However, I’m not sure it’s fair to classify the Abnimals world as one of robots without souls, because Arty Ficial and SCUZZ both seemed to have a level of independent reasoning ability. I’m quite into Star Wars, so I’m comparing it to their droids; R2-D2 and C-3PO are a lot more sentient than the battle droids. (Don’t ask about the “droid rights” subplot in Solo.)
Anyway, the way they found Carver was satisfying, but not surprising. I want to know a lot more about the experiments, and I think I’m going to have the chance in the next episode or two.

Liver Disease Long-Term Disability Claims: What You Need to Know
Liver disease can make it hard—or even impossible—to work. If you or a loved one is struggling with job-related tasks due to liver disease, you may qualify for long-term disability (LTD) benefits. Here's what you need to know to get the support you deserve.
How Liver Disease Affects Work
The liver is vital for filtering toxins and aiding digestion. When it’s not functioning properly, you may experience:
Severe fatigue
Abdominal pain/swelling
Memory issues (hepatic encephalopathy)
Jaundice (yellow skin/eyes)
Frequent nausea and vomiting
Common conditions that may qualify for LTD:
Cirrhosis
Hepatitis B or C
Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD)
Liver cancer
Autoimmune hepatitis
Qualifying for Long-Term Disability Benefits
To get LTD benefits, you’ll need to prove your liver disease stops you from working. Insurers require:
Medical evidence (test results, scans, doctor’s notes)
Treatment records
Proof of functional limitations (fatigue, cognitive issues, pain)
Common Claim Challenges
Not Enough Medical Evidence Insurers often deny claims due to lack of documentation. Solution: Submit detailed records, liver function tests, and physician statements.
Symptoms Are "Subjective" Fatigue and brain fog are hard to measure. Solution: Keep a symptom diary, get a doctor’s RFC assessment, and ask coworkers to provide statements.
Non-Compliance with Treatment Claims may be denied if you're not following your doctor’s advice. Solution: Stick to your treatment plan and document everything—including side effects.
SSDI vs. Private LTD Insurance
SSDI (Social Security Disability):
Government-run
Strict rules, may take longer
Some liver diseases qualify for faster approval
Private LTD Insurance:
Through your employer or private insurer
Covers 50–70% of income
Easier to qualify than SSDI, but denials still happen
